A spicy quick Christmas read with fun dialogue and characters. A fun sexy read on a Sunday afternoon.
So I have a soft spot for a sexy, enduring, hot but not trashy, mmf. This was so close, unfortunately the F was just to whiny for me, and the MM were good but missing depth. The love scenes were written ok not heavy but all in all missing depth and detail. The whole time reading I just couldn’t picture the characters there was minimal description so it just put a damper on my reading.
Overall, the idea of the story had potential. The author had a great opportunity to step in to a side of the mmf dynamic that is rarely considered. On this alone I was excited to read it. There were some drawbacks as far as character development, and relatability, but hey it is a quick read and of anything the construct was different.
Great concept. Lots of promise. Unfortunately the execution was a big fail. If you are expecting a steamy romance this isn't for you. There are only a couple spicy scenes and they fall flat. Almost the entire book focuses on Roxanne's injury. The characters are not well fleshed out. The insta forgiveness is unbelievable. The only parts I enjoyed were interactions between Andrew and Stefan.
This book was unfortunately not very well written. I thought it would be okay, but I found myself skimming the book instead of reading it fully. I was intrigued by the premise though.
1 "dear Santa don't make me finish this..." star !!
Thank you to Netgalley and Evernight Publishing for an e-copy. This was released December 2022.
I am providing my honest review.
The one star is for the inclusivity of a MMF bisexual triad as a family choice and the attempt at providing an erotic love story to express this.
This was not a pleasant reading experience. I stopped at 45 percent.
Roxy let her two male partners go after she becomes pregnant. She continues to miss Andrew and Stefan after 30 years and has not allowed herself to love again. A fluke encounter with Stefanie (Roxy's daughter) leads to a reunion. Can the three hope to rekindle their romantic triad ?
The prose is extremely amateurish. The dialogue ranges from ridiculous to atrocious Roxy is a pain in the ass and the men are daddy ken dolls. This leads from one maudlin scene to another and rather than feeling hopeful I felt nauseous....
The first sex scene begins at 40 percent and was not terrible but not very hot either....
This was to the point where I would rather be reading Sally Rooney...yet it was that bad...
Genre: Christmas romance, MMF
Roxanne King is a 52-year-old single mom and grandma. A chance encounter reunites her with her former lovers, from whom she fled thirty years ago after a terrible mistake. Back in her life, Andrew (54) and Stefan (53), vow to help her feel welcomed back into their lives and loved wholeheartedly, caring for her through recovery from a recent injury, and reuniting her family. A MMF Christmas novel, with a focus on the importance of family.
Unfortunately, I did not connect with this novel, which is a shame because I had very high hopes for a mature MMF with the promise of some extra spice. The book is about one hundred pages too long, and mired in tough details about doctors’ appointments and theodolite impalement, and my strongest emotional connection was rage at the doctor who ignored Roxy’s infection.
The writing tone was matter-of-fact, rather than expressive. While there were a few very steamy scenes, they came out of nowhere in the course of the plot and held very little emotional connection for the reader. The characters each cared about one another, though, and my general biggest complaint about second chances is that they happen too early in life. It’s very sweet to see these MCs reconnect after thirty years. And while I felt that the incident that made Roxy run in the first place was very realistic, I wanted some more sparks out of the reunion.
A Christmas Wish has some really cute moments, and some solid ideas, but fell flat for me on its execution.
This novella is about a woman filled with guilt and anxiety about her past. The main character, Roxy, was extremely whiny, insecure, and closed off. She didn’t appreciate the help that was offered to her and candidly, drove me crazy.
Her two lovers were extremely patient and helpful right away even though 30 years had passed since they last saw eachother. The characters were slightly unrealistic. I would’ve liked to hear more from their POV and not just that they love her and she’s never leaving them.
The steam was definitely there but it was often sudden and weirdly placed in the story line. 30ish chapters of the same thing then suddenly some steam…? Wasn’t doing it for me.
There was minimal character development— I did not connect at all to any character. The concept could’ve been great, but the execution was lacking which lead to the 2-star review.

The idea of this MMF is bonkers and intriguing: Roxy, Stefan, and Andrew were once in a committed menage, but Roxy threw it all away. Now she's back in town, and when they encounter each other again, they want to see if they can make it work. Oh yeah, and it's been THIRTY YEARS since then. So yeah, MMF second-chance Christmas novel with mature characters? SIGN US UP.
Unfortunately it wasn't quite as bonkers or Christmassy as we hoped. It's actually a short novel rather than a novella, and we think it could have benefited from a little less on the page. For a book that is explicitly fantastic (a 30 year separation where all 3 members were pining for each other? A woman who makes a Christmas wish to see her two former lovers AND IT COMES TRUE?) a lot (A LOT) of time is spent on practical considerations. Whose house will they live in? Who will drive Roxy to the doctor's office? What furniture will they keep, and what will they give away?
When the steam starts, it's pretty steamy. (Yes, for those who need to know, swords cross!) But for us there just wasn't enough page time spent in the bedroom when compared with the length of the book. If the idea sounds intriguing (the way it did to us), you can pick it up. Just expect a lot more time spent in conversation than you might expect...
