Vacation Wars by Meghan Quinn is almost a holiday romance, the difference is that the MC's (The heroine Tessa and the Hero Myles) have known each other for most of their childhood. Myles' family run a resort that Tessa's family vacation to every year and now her sister is getting married at the resort too!
The premise of the book is about Tessa not flying sola at the wedding. So of course her sister and her 2 best friends plan to hook Tessa up... Tessa however has other ideas and she ends up bumping into Myles. With another embarrassingly awkward meet cute with Myles in the bag, the wheels are now in motion to the couple romantic hook up and HEA.
Now there were things to love about this story; but as a whole it missed the mark somewhat for me. Myles and Tessa I loved. The banter and playfulness they share is endearing, and I loved reading how their romance blossoms. I also like the relationship Miles has with his Baba (his Father) as the book progresses the little sub plot for this was a really cute storyline.
Outside of these things I wasn't a fan of any of the other characters really. I found Roxanne, Tessa's twin sister to be quite jarring and somewhat unlikeable at times. The way the pact is forced upon Tessa and how dismissive her sister and her friends are towards Tessa's fondness of Myles came across as a little mean at times too. Meghan always seems to nail the secondary characters and the friendship groups. It is hands down one of the qualities I love about an MQ book; but these elements were lacking in Vacation Wars.
An easy read overall, and I am curious to listen the audio production to see if this gives a new perspective on the novel. It just lacked that connective pull and satisfying feeling you get from devouring an Meghan Quinn book.
Meghan Quinn has done it again. This book was so good. The erotic scenes were so intense and the scene with the police man was so funny. I was laughing out loud. Her story is so wonderfully written.
First let me say that I LOVED Myles and Tessa together! It was just adorable that they had each crushed on the other from afar for so many years. I so related to Tessa- I'm a spreadsheet/numbers girl and I'll admit a bit quirky and awkward myself, especially when it came to crushes. But I will also say I DID not like Tessa's twin and the other two girls in their friend group. But maybe we aren't supposed to? I adored the setting (now I totally want to vacation in Greece!) and the romance between Myles and Tessa was swoon-worthy and I never tire of author Meghan Quinn's hilarious situation and banter.
I enjoyed this, but not as much as Meghan Quinn’s usual offerings, all her usual quirky female characters were present, her humour but for me the focus on all the family stuff was a bit heavier than normal anf it took a bit of my enjoyment away for the romance , a nice read but not one of my favourites
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I had a fun time reading this second chance rom-com. Tessa and Myles had great chemistry and they were meant to be together. However, the family and friends drama were overshadowing the romance. The characters were in their thirties but they acted like they were teenagers. Overall, it was an ok read.
Vacation Wars was a fun book that made me smile too much through out the story. Not a bad thing! There are times you just need a good book with light humor. It puts you in that "feel good" space. Vacation Wars is a story that is written to get you there!
Myles and Tessa are a duo that you wouldn't think could work, but they just do! Their circumstances was unconventional, but that is where the best love stories are written! The romance and chemistry was there. You know these two were it for each other. But getting them there is where the fun begins!
Vacation Wars is a hit from Meghan Quinn! She is a favorite author of mine for a reason and with every book, I am never disappointed.
I love Meghan Quinn books but this one just missed the mark for me. I struggled to pick it up. The setting was outstanding and the MCs were tolerable but some of the side characters were unbearable and the third act break up was predictable as was the ending. 3.5 stars

Another great romantic comedy by Meghan Quinn. I loved that there were moments of humor and heart. It was so easy to fall in love with Tessa & Myles and their journey.
I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
Meghan Quinn never disappoints !!!! This author write her books in exactly THAT way like I want to read all my romantic stories. For sure, she's genious, made me smile and made me cry... plus she knows how to make me blush !!!!
Vacation Wars is a book definetly from "won't put it down" kind. Since first pages story sucked me in compeletely, I've enjoyed every moment that I spent with this author and her characters.
Tessa and Myles together are great company. They both are so different like they could only be... however I like very much when my bookish chacters don't match perfect for each other! Their romance is a slow burn romance, but author totally SLAYED it. I enjoyed every single second. Thru the pages I could feel how their relationship grown in someting more. The biggest asset of this book ? Like always humor mixed with emotions, but without too much drama, with delicious banter .
Must read!
This is the cute romance book of the summer! I absolutely loved this book. I felt that I was there with Tessa, Myles, Roxanne, Lois, Clea and Toby! I kept imagining the beauty of Greece, being on a resort.. seeing all of this unfold. This story just captured my heart. It was different than the other Meghan Quinn books I've read but I truly enjoyed this. I need someone to buy the rights and create a movie asap because this is the chick flick movie that all the girls will love.
A love story of decades long pining, a beautiful Greece oceanside resort, and a war of wills
Tessa is back in Santorini at the resort she has been visiting annually with her family for decades for her twin sister's upcoming wedding. She is there with her sister and their 2 best friends to relax and connect before the wedding guest arrive and the festivities begin. Her sister and her friends have a plan to invoke a friendship contract they made as teenagers and find her love in Greece. It becomes a war of pranks on both side and she secretly teams up with her longtime resort crush Myles to keep up with her friends. They are both dealing with a lot family and personal wise but start to really connect romantically. But nothing is ever easy when family is involved and they may be the reason Tessa and Myles can't find a way to work out.
This was such a fun read. Although there was a lot of angst and roadblocks, the romantic build up was so well written. It had the perfect amount of spice and was so well done as well. The dual perspective really filled out the details of the story. The main characters felt so dynamic, even if the side characters were a bit flat and one sided.
This is a perfect beach read. It’s available in all formats but my favorite is that it’s a Read&Listen on KindleUnlimited. The narration is flawless and the narrators are some of everyones favorites! Lee Samuels & CJ Bloom ❤️🎧
This love story was a long time in the making, they’ve literally been circling each other but not interacting for years. Now that they are interacting, Tessa can’t help but constantly embarrass herself in front of Myles. He wants the family business (the resort Tessa is at for a few weeks) and maybe her, if they can make everyone (Tessa included) realize things could be real.
Available now in all formats. You will laugh and laugh. It’s wonderful.
Meghan Quinn never fails to write a book that makes me laugh and smile, and while Vacation Wars did that at times.......unfortunately this is one book from her that didn't quite hit the spot for me. The first half of the story, I struggled to get sucked into the story like I usually do with her stories. And I think that was due to the ongoing wars between Tessa and her sister and friends. It was slightly funny to me initially, but then it just got cruel and I didn't enjoy how she was being treated by them.
But......as far as the hero and heroine of the story - Myles and Tessa - the friendship and relationship that developed between them was the bright spot of the whole story, as it truly should be. He definitely appreciated her for who she was, quirks and all. When their relationship started to blossom is when I think the book finally got going. I get the wars are part of the premise of the story, but I could have done with less of that and got more of Myles and Tessa together.
A heartwarming romcom to spice up your spring break.
As always we get a lot of heart with our laugh out loud moments.
A bit over the too at some points but still somehow made the story work.
Loved seeing how Myles helped Tessa see herself fully.
I’m unsure about Roxane but that may be own sibling boundary issues.
Still a cute vacation story that just solidified a much needed trip to the romantic Mediterranean coast.
RomCom lovers be ready! This book will have you laughing through the entire thing! This one is full of lots of pranks and over the top behavior while on vacation (hence the Vacation WARS title) But the more it went on, I felt
Like Tessa’s sister was too much of a mean girl and that drove me crazy.
But Tessa and Myles story was so sweet and beautiful and kept me reading because I needed to know how they ended. They knew each other for years and each had crushes on each other but they were too awkward to know how to deal with it. Now they are grown and found their way to each other after faking it for a bit. Myles has to give Tessa the confidence to shine and not stay in her twin sister's shadow. And when she does? It is beautiful!
It was frustrating the way Tessa let her sister get in the way of her HEA but thankful that everything worked out in the end
That first explosive laughter moment that Quinn’s books usually pull from me wasn’t quite as soon in this one, but it wasn’t far after we got going. Wait till you read the part about belly nuzzles, kept me giggling for quite a while! I loved the prologue for how this got started and gave us the background. One thing that always amazes me about her stories is how they are all so different! Even with the awesomeness that each story brings, it doesn’t feel like I’m reading any sort of a repeat of the last book she wrote. Not that I don’t enjoy the familiarity of stories that have the similar feel that I get from my favorite authors, but I just love the way that all of her stories have something different that grabs me and keeps me riveted, even at over 400, sometimes almost 500 page long stories!
In a way there was a part that reminded me of one of the other books by this author when the characters kind of tried long distance, only this kind of was the opposite, more towards the end of the book. And I can’t say too much about that without getting spoilery. This book had tons of back and forth, and as this was supposed to be the weeks leading up to Tessa’s twin sister Roxanne’s wedding, even that part of the story was a lot different from other stories with similar plot points to that. We didn’t quite get all the family stuff like normally is what throws the wrench into all the things. Instead we got a girls trip, somewhat gone wrong as they tried to hold each other, Tessa specifically in this case, to a contract they made as teenagers.
All the things they did to get back at each other were some crazy things. The help that Tessa got from “The Bulge” or Myles, was perfect as well. And Myles had his own family back story, that really complemented the story perfectly, and made all of the puzzles pieces snap together exactly right in the end.
I love this author and was so excited to see I got approved for this book. It really did not disappoint! This book made me laugh and smile all the time.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book as per usual by this author. The usual shenanigans and really awesome characters and side characters. This book builds a great story and world.

Oh my oh my Tessa and Myles what absolutely fun read that missed nothing. Once you start the book it’s all consuming. The fact that neither had any idea the other was crushing for YEARS was the perfect romantic long romance with awkward and embarrassing moments. The journey to forever was perfect and fun to read and unfold what matters to each other.
The authors writing flawless and the words are so captivating, the plot had so many twists and turns and none that I was expecting, and many shockingly intimate I have become a huge fan of this author. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.
Authors Blurb: Prepared for a good time, Tessa is thrilled to spend the weeks before her sister’s wedding at their family’s favorite vacation spot: Santorini. Sandy beaches, stonewashed houses, attractive men—it’s heaven.
But Tessa’s idea of a girls’ trip comes to a screaming halt when her sister thinks it’s high time Tessa finds some love herself. Unfortunately, Tessa forgot about the deal she made back in high school: she has to find her soulmate before her sister’s wedding. Or else.
As she dodges suitors and her sister’s pranks, Tessa finds an ally in the oh-so-dreamy Myles, her childhood crush who just so happens to work at the resort. But Myles is dealing with some family conflict of his own. He’s elated at being reunited with Tessa, but his father’s refusal to acknowledge his interest in the family business and relegating him to only grunt work casts a dark cloud.
As Tessa and Myles help navigate their way through their families’ antics, they begin to realize that their past feelings may have a future if only they can turn their island fantasies into something real.
This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.
Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕
As far as I know none of Meghan Quinn’s books have been made into movies/limited series. And I’d like to know why the heck not? (If I’m wrong please correct me!) Books like Runaway Groomsman, and her latest Vacation Wars seem perfectly primed for adaptation. Tessa’s sister is getting married in a few weeks, but first she, her sister and a couple of girlfriends are taking a little vacation. It’s a spot Tessa knows well as her family vacation there every year. This time things are going to be a bit different though, as her sister and friends (all married -well her sister is soon to be anyway) are determined to find Tessa a man. Not exactly thrilled with the prospects from her scheming friends, what’s a girl to do? Well that’s where Myles comes in. He’s the son of the hotel owner, someone she kinda sorta knows since he was there over so many of the years her family visited, though for the last 7 years he’s away in New York. Of course this wouldn’t be a Meghan Quinn novel if there wasn’t tension/attraction there, but it also wouldn’t be a Meghan Quinn novel if there wasn’t more to the story than a simple rom-com. Quinn always adds more, something beyond the enjoyable surface rom-com. And in this case it’s the relationship between Myles and his father. While I enjoyed her previous book (Runaway Groomsman) more, this is still a wonderfully enjoyable story and has everything I’ve come to love and expect from one her novels. I’d like to thank Montlake and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an eARC of Vacation Wars.
