5 Stars!!!

Synopsis:

Donkey goes on a fun-filled journey with his lovely, cat family and friends. Join him as he tries to figure out who he really is.

My review:

This book was fun, comical, and illustrated perfectly for what was happening in the story. It engaged readers with its vibrancy and fun-loving adventure. The playful yet gentle Donkey realizes that he doesn't need to be a cat to fit in; he can be "Don-Kitty."
Highly recommend it for young readers.

This was a really fun read for our cat-loving family, and a very fun one to make donkitty sounds while reading. I read this several days ago and my daughter is still talking about it. Illustrations are adorable with lots of new things to find each read.
If this was a library checkout, we'd probably extend our checkout and put it on our list to read again another time. Really enjoyed it!

A fun, lighthearted picture book about identity, and exploring what it means to you.

Thank you Netgalley and Kids Can Press for the ARC!

This book was both sweet and funny for my young readers! We instantly knew that Donkey was not a cat, but his process of figuring out who he really was (as well as some of the other cats trying to figure out if they were still cats) made for an engaging read.

This was a story about a donkey who just wanted to be the same as others, but later finds out that is good to be different. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't funny, especially with the title. I think more humour would have made it more appealing to the younger audience it is aimed at.

"What if I'm not a cat? is a very interesting book. It is intended for younger readers, and for children who are starting to read on their own. This book will help them learn to read. The whole story is about a donkey who thought he was a cat. But he began to wonder who he really was. Did the feline friends help Donkey discover the truth? Will they accept him for who he is? This book teaches you to accept diversity. Just because we look different doesn't mean we're inferior. I like the illustrations in this book. I found funny and sad moments here.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book, mommy_and_books.

My rating is 10/10

Donkey thought he was a cat. He acted like a cat. He had many cat friends but something was not quite right. This is a fun book that will bring out belly laughs with your kiddos.

A special thank you to Kids Can Press and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Donkey is a cat. Or so he thinks. His friends are all cats and they always make him feel welcome. But one day he realizes he’s different than his friends. Will he ever feel like he fits in when he looks so different? And what animal is he really?

This is a great picture book of fitting in, making friends, and being accepted. Donkey learns to love who he is and gains a positive self confidence. The illustrations are simple but entertaining. It’s a quick read aloud that isn’t too wordy for preschool, yet it has a great story for elementary age too.

A super cute book on what it means to be yourself!

Donkey thinks he’s a cat and struggles when he realizes he’s not. He embraces being a donkey in a room full of cats.

Loved the illustrations and the message. My 5 year old approves too!

This is more than just a book about a cute donkey. This is about identity, about what it means to belong, to know who and what you are and to figure out what it means to fit in. Yes, and this happens to a cute donkey/cat and there are also cute cats (and foxes too!) – the cute donkey absolutely helps when discussing such matters! And the drawings are exquisite too!
This is a quick and easy read, but it opens doors for a deeper conversation with your child.

For an honest review and being the target audience, I read this ARC copy with my 4 year old! This captivated his attention from start to finish!

First, the length of this childrens book is perfect!! It’s not to short that it seems almost unfulfilling, yet not to long that he, nor I lose interest!!

Second, the underlying story of just being yourself and not worrying about fitting in is wonderful!

Last, it was very fun to read with great illustrations! I loved the animated “mee-haw”!

This was a delightful childrens read!

Being yourself is hard to do, and this adorable story of a donkey believing he’s a cat is one for the books! Loved the chaos, and tale of being true to who you are, no matter what.

A very good storybook on identity. Cute characters. Amazing illustrations. Effortless story telling.

I know it’s difficult for us adults to explain properly or in a manner that should make the younger kids understand what we understand about identity. It’s such books like this that actually helps the adults to make the kids ‘see’ what we need them to know.
It is the story of a donkey which was raised with cats. He believes he’s a cat until he decides to be who he actually is. It’s a learning process and it doesn’t need to be abrupt during the process of identifying who we really are.

Such a good one.

Thank you, Kids Can Press, for the advance reading copy.

Who doesn't want to read a book about a donkey?
This book was well done. I love books about acceptance in our differences. The book held my 4 year old's attention from cover to cover. It was a quick read and easy to follow. The illustrations were well done and brightly coloured. The illustrations matched with the wording and caused some laughter.

This is a funny story about a donkey who lives among cats and consequently sees himself as one. And honestly, can we not be whatever we want to? Cute cats, laugh-out-loud situations, nice illustration.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Kids Can Press for an Advance Review Copy.

Thank you Netgalley for an arc copy in exchange for an honest review

I enjoyed this story. The artwork was cute and simple, and the story was cute. Donkey knows he's a cat...until he becomes unsure. He notices a few differences that makes him question who is really is. His cat family tries to help, but in the end, it's up to Donkey to find his way.

I read this with my toddler who enjoyed the story and I would share this with my Pre-K classroom

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley for review purposes.

Immediate thoughts: wholesome, funny, heart-warming, insightful.

I think this book is a great tool to help teach children about accepting and celebrating differences. The story gently guides the reader through learning that a person (or donkey!) doesn't have to fit neatly into one box, category or label. It's a lovely way of showing the reader that identity is comprised not only of physical traits, but of our actions, our connections, our values, and so on.

Writing-wise, I enjoyed the author's use of sound ("mee-haw" got me every time!) to encourage the child to participate in an active reading process that allows them to be a bit silly and have fun. I also like how the various characters have their own speech bubbles across the pages, again encouraging the child to engage with the story by spotting each bubble and looking at the different emotions expressed by each character.

The illustrations are beautiful and the style is an excellent match for the tone of the story.

Thank you, Kids Can Press, for providing me with this ARC.

It’s a funny story about a donkey that lives with cats and think that he’s a kitten! I think the story itself show us that eventho we’re different that doesn’t mean that we can’t play or live together. The illustrations are cute and i think the kids will like it!

This is such a cute picture book, about a donkey who lives with the cats in the barn. And each time the farmer comes in, she refers to everyone as a cat. Therefore, Donkey is pretty sure he is a cat too. And yet, there are things he can’t do, that cats can.
So he thinks of all the things he can do, and can’t do, and is worried that perhaps he isnt’ a cat, and thinks he’ll run away. But when he kicks a fox trying to break in, he realizes that he might be a hybrid cat/donkey.

So funny as he tries to do all the things cats do, even sitting on the farmer’s lap.

All about what it is to fit in, and not having to be exactly the same as everyone else. (In fact one of the cats wonders if he too isn’t a cat.)
