Oh man how many ways can I express the love of this book. It's so humorous, cute, and fun,
Donkey believes she is a cat, She does all the things a cat does, cuddling, cleaning etc. However some things are not right, like she doesn't have claws and is scared of mice. Donkey has a bit of an existential crisis when farmer says something that makes her question who she is.
I love the theme of being who you are and the found family. That although donkey isn't family by blood to kitties, it is her family. I also found it hilarious how cats are portrayed in this book. Such as the annoyed disgusted one to the anxiety ridden one.
The illustrations are fantastic in this book. They're super cute and detailed, but the facial expressions had me cracking up.
Im for sure will pick up a hard copy of this book and recommend to all my friends.
Thank you NetGalley and Kids Can Press for this advanced reader copy. My review is voluntarily my own.

A story about a donkey that thinks he's a cat. Reminds of Babe thinking he is a sheep dog or Buddy thinking hes an elf. I know my 5 year old would absolutely love this.
So cute! Very engaging and fun story. The illustrations were colorful and very well done. I especially appreciated the commentary from all the side characters! Five stars, would love to read this to kids
This was so funny to read, and I loved the detailed illustrations. I've seen other animals actually behave similar to those around them, so it's not a far-fetched idea for the donkey to believe it's a cat. But I loved "Don-Kitty"
This book is so fun, I lost it when the kitty is also questioning itself. I had a good laugh reading it and the illustrations are also really lovely. The story tells us about finding our own identity and be proud of whatever we want to be. Thank you NetGalley and Kids Can Press for the copy.
A well written book about a struggle of identity from the point of view of a donkey.
Cute book that will help teach children about identity and being yourself
I loved this story. Sweet donkey, you can be a cat, it's okay!! This was a sweet and funny story about a donkey finding out..that well he is not a cat :( He goes on a journey and finds out that he is perfect just the way he is! :) A great message.
Recommended to children for all ages. I can't wait to read this to my littles.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the Arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Great book to help children find themselves and accept that they are different and that is ok. The illustration are so cute and will have your child smiling throughout.
This easy read story with fun illustrations is a lovely way to teach kids that being different is just fine.
A sweet story about accepting yourself as you are!
Cute illustrations, age appropriate humour, and a side character kitty having a matching self-crisis keep this really fun and accessible to kids, and enjoyable for adults too!
My niece absolutely loved this book! She could not stop giggling at the cute pictures of the donkey with the cats. I think this book gives children a good idea of finding themselves and feeling like they don't fit in, in an age-appropriate way.
Fun animal adventure story about a mule who believes it is a cat. Fanciful, enjoyable parable about the role we all play in life and how living in a community takes all stripes. Enjoyable.
Thank you to NetGalley, and the Publisher for the eARC! This is a silly story about a Donkey who believes he is a cat. Young readers would get a kick of the illustrations seeing the big Donkey do little cat activities. This book had very cute pictures throughout the entire book as well.
Here we have a story of Donkey the cat having an existential crisis concerning whether or not he is actually a cat. He knew he was a cat because he had been told so, but somehow he doesn’t feel like a cat.
The drawings and characterization of each cat is adorable and I think most young readers would enjoy the confusion Donkey experiences in this book.
As soon as I saw the cover of What If I'm Not a Cat? I knew I wanted to read it. This is such a cute book about wanting to be something you're not and discovering you're fine being who you are. The illustrations are great and really cute for little ones to look at while being read the story.
I absolutely loved this book! The story was great and the illustrations were so cute. I will definitely be letting our Children's Collection Librarian know to add this to our collection ASAP!
Thank you NetGalley for this eARC.
As a special educator, I love this book. Every year we do presents in general education classrooms on inclusiveness and acceptance. This book is perfect to add to that collection. It reminds students that people may look different and may stand out, but they should still be included where they want to be.
