This is a very cute book, and oh so true! I will be gifting these to expecting and new parents. It helps to know you’re not alone, done with humor and love. Highly recommended!
“Dedicated to all the new parents who need to laugh just to keep from crying.” That pretty much sums up this delightful book. As someone who is currently drowning in diapers to the siren call of hungry-crying with a beautiful undertone of whiny toddler, this book had me chuckling. This book starts out hilarious and ends with a sweet sentiment on the beauty and resilience of family. An excellent choice for your next baby shower gift or a surprise happy for some struggling parents who need to see the humor and purpose in those sleepless nights nurturing tiny humans.
Thank you, NetGalley! ❤️
This book was adorable and hilarious. I will be purchasing this for all baby showers moving forward! I would give it more than five stars if I could.
So cute, accurate, and funny. Definitely makes being a new parent somewhat comical and also gives you a well illustrated book to show your babe.
What Were You Expecting? First Words for New Parents by Cameron Spires and Grace Cho I’m giving a 3 star.
It’s fairly basic and I didn’t find it that funny.
I’m not leaving a review anywhere else but here.
Thanks NetGalley
Super cute book! I’m a mom of 2 with another on the way, and the accuracy is right on. The humor is well balanced with the love a parent has for their baby, but the exhaustion and frustration of being a new parent. While cute for parents to show their baby as a bedtime story, it also reminds the parent that while they’re covered in spit up and poop and so, so sleep deprived. That little one is worth it, and you love them despite all the glorious parts of parenthood.
Ah parenthood. This is a "help you blow off the frustration of being a parent through humor" book which, I assume, works well. I am too old, age 70, to have benefitted by books like these. However, I have a keen and cynical sense of humor and, if you don't, this book will help you place parenthood in perspective. Fun book. My advice for being a parent, get plenty of sleep and remember, you turned out ok. Alright, maybe not the best advice, but it's too late to change anything!
“What were you expecting?” is the perfect kid book for parents. I give it 5 out of 5 Stars. It is perfect for your little ones who will love just looking at the pictures. Which I might add are perfectly adorable, especially the penguin/. It is perfect for the parents who need a laugh after not getting enough sleep for the last year. The book is nicely formatted, and the pictures span of 2 pages. It will perfect for holding your little on in your arms as you rock on the rocking chair reading them to sleep. It is a perfect blend of a goodnight story and humor for the parents too. I will buy this book for all my friends who are expecting next year, and it will definitely be on my list for my future children. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves “Go the F*** to sleep” and goodnight moon. Also, the penguin drawing at the end is the best drawing ever.
This is the cutest book for expectant and new parents to read to remind them that all of the things they are going through are the same things other new parents are dealing with. The story is cute and the illustrations are fun and any baby would love the colorful pictures even if they don't understand the story.
I would love to provide this to anyone who is a new parent as a baby shower gift! It is both funny and sweet. The first few weeks/months of parenthood can be very hard, and I think this will be a great way to bring a smile to a new parent. I didn’t love the whale page, but the rest were spot on.
