I am reviewing a copy of Nothing Could Stop Her through Lerner Publishing Group and Netgalley:
Ruth Gruber was born in to a Jewish American family in Brooklyn, Tim the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn New York, her parents came from Russia, and she was the fourth of five children. From an early age it became apparent that she was going to do something that made her stand out. She became the earliest PH.D graduate when she received the degree when she was only twenty.
Ruth Grubber’s career as an advocate as well as journalist spanned over seven decades, and several countries, she lived to be 105 dying in 2016. Her career ed her to places that other reporters wouldn’t or couldn’t go, from Nazi Germany to the remote Arctic regions of the Soviet Union. At a time when women were expected to stay at home and raise families, Ruth told the stories of people in need and fought for their rights to live in safety and freedom.
Nothing Could Stop Her is a great reminder to girls if all ages that they can be anything they set their minds to!
I give Nothing Could Stop Her five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!
What an amazing woman! I had heard of Ruth Gruber before reading this book but only a little information compared to what this book holds. Her courage is something to aspire to. She was an excellent writer, great communicator, very smart and had a heart for others. The details of her life are written in chronological order. This chapter book takes you along with her as she grows up, receives excellent education, travels the world, brings light to refugees, and shares the stories of so many. It is heartwarming, informative, and easy to read.
This book looked very interesting as someone who loves reading about women trailblazers. I loved the text-to-image ratio and think it would be great for many readers just getting into chapter books. This book was so educational, with little blurbs about important components of the story like Yiddish and pogroms. This book was really great and balanced between being educational and entertaining.
Overall I think this is a great book to introduce children to nonfiction and longer books.

As someone who loves reading books about historical figures and events, this book jumped out at me. Ruth Gruber was and will always be a true inspiration for anyone with a dream, but especially for young women and girls. Ruth had a dream of being a writer and she followed through with it well into her 90s. During her career, she ended up telling the stories of people from some of the most dangerous places around the world. The book was well written and really helped capture the events Ruth went through to become a great journalist and humanitarian. The story in this book ends with Ruth and the refugees she helped bring to America from Europe during WWII, but she covered so many more stories about Jewish people and refugees from other parts of the world. I will definitely be reading some of Ruth's books after reading this book. I would also like to mention that the illustrations in this book were pleasant and well done. Thank you NetGalley, Rona Arato, and Kar-Ben Publishing for allowing me to read this advanced copy of Nothing Could Stop Her. Overall, it was a great book about an amazing woman who worked hard to tell the stories of others and make sure their voices were heard.
This book is fantastic!! It's a great biography about a woman who paved the way for many beyond her. It gives you a glimpse into what women had to do to be taken seriously and her role in the transport of the first group of refugees during WWII. Ruth Gruber is not mentioned in many readings but her work is immensely important and I can't recommend this book enough! It will definitely make its way to my classroom library!
At the time students are coming into the middle school, a lot of them have entered into a total obsession with learning everything they can about World War II and the Holocaust. This biography will be a fantastic addition to help feed this obsession. The story is wonderfully written. It's structured in an engaging way that reads more like a story than a list of facts and timeline. Little tidbits help to provide context to the situation to understand the severity of the situation as a jewish girl.
I am very excited to add this to the circulation of the middle school library. It is sure to be a well loved copy come the end of the year.
This book was much longer than I thought it would be. There were illustrations and sidebars with additional information. I think it would be hard for kids to get engaged in this book unless they are already interested in it.
Ruth Gruber is a remarkable figure, who everyone should read about.
This book has lots of great information along with the story of Ruth and her life and the differences she made.
A really lovely book!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!
Wonderful new biography of Ruth Gruber, a Jewish American writer and journalist. Deeply disturbed by the plight of Jews in Germany, she did her utmost to inform the American public of the atrocities being committed in Europe and solicit assistance for Jews trying to flee the Nazi regime. A fascinating look at her life made accessible to younger ones. Beautiful illustrations bring the story to life. Highly recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is an easy-to-read account of Ruth Gruber's experiences as a journalist, photographer, and humanitarian. The pictures, illustrations, and side notes help the young reader understand and engage in Ruth's story.
