This book was given to me for free by NetGalley and the author but all opinions are my own.
First, let me tell you how much I loved this book I went and purchased it not only for myself but my sister-in-law. Sara Ennis is becoming one of my favorite authors. I will start by saying that this book is dark, gritty with twists and turns, and written so well that it will keep you pulled in the whole time. if you have a weak stomach or you are squeamish I would skip this one as it's not for the weak.
Little Dove is a story about kidnapping and the cover-up of awful crimes against young children. I don't want to add any more spoilers so I will stop at that. Sara's writing is so descriptive in parts of this book that you feel exactly how she wants you to feel. I felt sick to my stomach at times and so uncomfortable I had to put the book down and walk away. This is one of those books where you have to pick up a light and funny read to detox your mind. But I loved every second of this book I devoured it in one sitting. I do apologize for the late review as I was dealing with cancer treatments last year but boy oh boy this book did not disappoint and I am off to buy her other books.
This is extremely dark, as are the other books by this author. If you are squeamish then I don’t think so is for you. The pacing is done very well, the characters are fully fleshed out, and the story is excellent.
Another great book from Sara ! I was pleasantly surprised to see previous characters from the Dollhouse series, which I loved and really recommend.
Little Doves is a great thriller with good twists. Already can't wait for the next book !
This was a great read. Very suspenseful and unpredictable. There were quite a few characters and was tough to keep up at times. Overall a creepy well written book.
Sara is easily a fave author, a go to for me. I became hooked on her dark, twisty and clever writing when I read The Dollhouse, This had big expectations and they were met, I love love loved this one! Bravo Sara! 5 STARS
I loved this book! It's everything a psychological thriller should be. Dark, gritty, uncomfortable, confronting and a real page turner. I devoured this book and couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more from this author!
Little Doves is the well-told story of a kidnapping and the cover-up of horrid crimes done to children. It is the story of one young woman's quest to heal from the crimes against her sister and others, and a community's journey to link the crimes from the past with the one that has been recently committed. A young girl has gone missing. It is in the same place, and in many of the same circumstances as a crime from twenty years ago. A special group that counsels families in missing situations comes in to work with the family. Their group also includes a former investigator that can look in places law enforcement can't and possibly find clues as to the identity of the perpetrator. The days are ticking by and a young girl's life is in the balance as circumstances come together to unveil the sexual predators and whoever is committing vigilante justice against them. This was an entertaining book, well told story with interesting characters. It was entertaining and had a surprising revelation as the end of the book grows near. Enjoyable reading for those who like mystery and crime. Thanks to #NetGalley#LIttleDoves for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Rating 3.5 ⭐️
Sara Ennis has written some of the darkest books I've read, and this was no exception. A twisted, gory, and downright sad look at the wickedness in this world. The ending was beyond satisfying.
While I didn't enjoy this as much as her previous work, it was still a good page turner. It just dragged a little for me and I wasn't as excited to get back into it as I usually am with her books.
Thank you to NetGalley and Good Girl Charlie LLC for this eARC.
Thank you Good Girl Charlie LLC for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. 5 stars for DNF as I cannot comment on the overall quality of the book. I got to about 25% and lost interest, which is odd, because it has all the ingredients for a banger. I felt like it was a lot of telling, and not enough showing. The prologue was quite juicy though.
Sara Ennis is a master at writing intense, heart wrenching stories. The characters are either lovable or despicable. Vengeance is served up hot as an eye for an eye. The story is wonderfully descriptive and I was pulled in from page one. The subject matter is a hard pill to swallow but you must swallow it all down. The ending is a chef kiss on another masterpiece. Five star.
Thank you NetGalley for this arc
Two stories connected?
First, you have a twenty year old unsolved murder, then when another girl goes missing, things start to heat up.
Then you have the Surgeon, someone is cutting up influential people. Are they connected?
There were so many pieces to this story that intertwined. The twists at the end showed just how crazy this authors mind works. I enjoyed all the parts weaving together so seamlessly. The characters as morally grey as they were, I liked them. They were relatable with what they were fighting, searching for.
This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. It's graphic. There's some sensitive subject matter, so read the warnings.
As thrillers go, as suspense goes, this book has it all.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
• dark, intense vigilante thriller
• multiple POVs and short chapters
• twists were like 😱😱
Sara Ennis' writing is so descriptive, at times I felt sick (in a good way? lol) while reading Little Doves. This book has heavy subject matter. While it is totally a standalone, I enjoyed seeing characters from the author's Duality series pop up! I really didn't know how it would all end and the revelations were great.
🗣️ Thank you to Sara Ennis for the opportunity to read and review your book via gifted ARC! And thank you to @netgalley and @xpressotours for the eARC copy. All opinions are honest and my own.
In 2002 a young girl went missing. Soon her body was found, severely tortured. Stasia had to go through life without her sister. Flash forward to 2022 Stasia is on the phone with her mom and her mom tells her another young girl is missing. Things only get crazier when someone known as, The Surgeon, pops up and.. (well you have to read it to know).
Sara does it again! This book was DARK. She does well at navigating such hard topics, and there are many in this book. One thing I really enjoy about her writing is the multiple POVs. I love seeing all the different sides of characters. It helps bring the story together. I was so excited when I read Nick's name. He's one of my favorite characters from her other books! (If you haven't read them, what are you doing?) This book I really liked Ava's character.
I enjoyed the book. It was fast paced and the short chapters make you want to keep going. You just need to know more of the story. I called one of the twists early on, second guessed myself a few times...but even still I was invested in the book. It kept my attention for sure! There are many TW in this, so if you need message me for them!
Thank you to Sara Ennis and NetGalley for the opportunity to read another one of your books! I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
Thank you to Netgalley and Good Girl Charlie LLC for providing me with the ARC!
I was excited to get this ARC because I’d been looking for something more fast-paced and gory. Unfortunately, this wasn’t exactly it. The description pulled me in as well as the concept of it. For me, the book was very slow and repetitive. It didn’t really pick up until the last 20%, but about halfway through, I’d predicted what was going to happen, so the ending fell completely flat. I think the main reason why I found it so boring was because of the multiple POVs and how they were used. For example, it goes from The Surgeon’s POV, where they explain how they pick their victims and why, but after that, we get Nick’s POV, where he’s trying to figure out how The Surgeon picks their victims and why. This makes the entire book very frustrating as it could easily have half the amount of chapters and POV switches. I think the multi-POV also makes it harder to get to know the characters enough for them to be likable - I didn’t really feel attached to any characters until the last 20%.
Out of all the perspectives, I enjoyed The Surgeon’s the most, but wish it was a bit more mysterious and didn’t flat-out state their motive and what their plans were. I liked Nick’s character, but feel like he doesn’t really do much in the end.
Overall, it didn’t exactly live up to what I expected.
I enjoyed reading this book. It had a good story to it. I liked the variety of characters in it. It was a well written book. I have read other books by this author and liked them too.
Another 5 star from Sara Ennis! Ever since I read The Dollhouse in 2021, she has been a must read author for me!
I loved how this book wove in a few characters from the Duality series, but it still felt like a stand-alone to me. It is definitely a dark book with dark topics so look for trigger warnings if you need them!
I am a sucker for multiple POVs in my thrillers, and especially enjoyed the POV of “the surgeon”. It was dark and creepy and everything I’m looking for in a book.
I cannot wait to see what Sara writes next, because I will definitely be getting my hands on it!
This book is daaarrrrkkk and so good! I loved the new characters and the characters that came back from the Duality series. Already looking forward to Sara’s next book!
Stasia’s sister Tasha was murdered 20 years ago. The killer was found immediately and committed suicide in prison. When another young teen, Elspeth, goes missing, the case is too similar to Tasha’s case. If the killer is dead, why does it feel like they are reliving the nightmare from 20 years ago?
The surgeon appears, targeting corrupt men, torturing and killing them on live feeds for anyone to see. The surgeon is sending a message, wanting justice for all of these specific mens victims.
When I heard of “Little Doves” the trigger warnings were what peaked my interest. I am a true crime junkie. I was actually expecting much more from the other reviews I had read. Personally, this was no worse than a Law and Order:SVU episode or a Snapped episode. Do not be put off due to trigger warnings.
I enjoyed reading the victims families side. Making sure their voice was heard.
I love multiple POV books. This one was super confusing. I had to flip back and re-read pages multiple times. By the middle of the book it seemed to make more sense. I am a very quick reader, most I read in a day. This unfortunately took me 4 days. The confusion in the beginning was too much for my brain. Had it not been, I would have read this very quickly. The plot is great, ending is great. Do I regret finishing? No. I personally feel the multiple POV ruined the suspense of “who done it.” I guessed all of the people involved mid book.
I unfortunately do judge a book by its cover. Had I not heard of the plot first, I would not have chosen the book. The little bit of blood would not have made me think it was a book about kidnapping, torture and death.
I give this 3 stars due to the actual plot being great. Although confusion is a major issue personally, I feel the ending makes it a good read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sara Ennis for allowing me the chance to be an early reader. I appreciate the opportunity.
There are a million characters and so many time jumps that I could barely keep up. I am a fan of Sara Ennis’ Dollhouse series. Little Doves was not the book for me. I would have enjoyed it more if there had not been so many characters. That was very overwhelming.
When a copycat killer murders a girl twenty years later, the police are stumped as they have already caught the first murderer. At the same time, "The Surgeon" is on the loose, picking up men, butchering them and then posting to social media, sometimes conducting the procedures live for all to watch. Are the two cases related?
I was thrilled to see Sara Ennis has a new book. I devoured her dark, twisted Dollhouse series and expected this new book to follow the same tangent. I wasn't wrong. This book was gruesome and disturbing but also unputdownable. Told through multiple POV's, I loved seeing how the story came together at the end however I do feel one aspect of the ending was a bit unrealistic. If you enjoy dark thrillers and are open to anything goes thrillers (so many trigger warnings here), you'll like this one.
