God this book was so freaking GOOOOOOD!!!

Felicity (Fizzy) Chen was probably one of my all time favorite side characters, and the fact that she got her own book made me the happiest reader EVER. We liveeeee to see a romance author find her HEA!!?? Also, I love a book about books (to some extent) so this was awesome on that angle alone!!

I loved the concept of this one. A romance author who lost her mojo is asked to be on a dating show. She says why the heck not, and does it in hopes of getting her writing spark, and her horniness (oooof that dry spell), back on track. But what she doesn’t expect is to feel some type of way about the hottttt British producer who happens to be a daddy in more ways than one 🫠🤤

The chemistry between these two, connor & fizzy, was sizzling hot & I loved their banter & flirtiness with my whole heart. There were so many swoony moment, my heart is actually still melting as we speak. I am seriously so mad at myself for waiting so long to read this. It was perfect. I cackled so much but also got some butterflies, both in my stomach & 🐱 ;). Can’t complain there hehe.

The relationship that Connor had with his ex wife is probably my favorite ever in a single dad romance, and it made my heart really happy. No toxic exes for the win! ALSO. LETS HERE IT FOR EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION!!! I love to see characters that actually say what they feel and don’t hold anything back (ily fizzy).

Getting to see some of my favorite people from the soulmate equation again made me happy… IM TALKING ABOUT YOU RIVER, JESS & JUNO! I really enjoyed the soulmate equation, but this one kicked it out of the park! And we get to see DNAduo again!

Everyone needs to read this book. ESPECIALLY if one is looking for a feel-good book that is hotter than you would expect & you won’t be able to put down!!

Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5

Tropes:
Forced proximity
Workplace romance
Friends to lovers
Single dad
Reality TV show vibes
Found family

Such a clever book! Fizzy is an author in a writing slump who agrees to do a dating show to try and get out of it. Witty banter and cute premise!

I loved this book. It was wonderful to hear Fizzy’s story and get to know her as more than a best friend. I loved seeing the characters from the first book as well. It was fun to see the continuation of their story while hearing Fizzy’s. I feel like all romance books, of late, are riddled with multiple unnecessary sex scenes. I was thankful this was not. I felt it focused on the love affair, feelings, banter, and angst more than the sexual descriptions. It still has a spicy scene or two, but it wasn’t the whole end of the book which I appreciated. I really enjoyed this more than The Soulmate Equation, which up until now was my favorite of theirs!

I read The True Love Experiment without having read The Soulmate Equation and felt this book easily can be read as a stand alone.

While I struggled to first get into this book, I ended up thoroughly enjoying it, giving it four stars.

Fizzy is such a fun character, she's outgoing and to the point but unfortunately we find her in somewhat of a slump with her career and personal life.

Connor comes off as someone who is very steady and sure, but is also going through a shake up in his career.

I loved the relationships amongst all of the characters! Connor and his ex-wife have a great co-parenting relationship. They all root for him in his relationship with Fizzy. In the end they help each other get through their respective slumps, and you can't help but root for them along the way.

Thank you to NetGalley and Gallery Books for an ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review.

And they are back! I was personally so disappointed with their last novel I was worried this one would be a let down. However, I couldn't put this down once I started it, Fizzy is such a great character-don't let the fact that she was in a previous book sway you from this one if you don't remember her, that fact is easily covered in the plot without being repetitive. I felt like this book showed such grown-up ways to handle a relationship-where people listen and learn and grow. Of course, there has to be a conflict but it felt believable.

While I adored Love and Other Words, True Love was insta-love and dragged on but with little tension. Fizzy and Connor are instantly attracted to one another and the reader is privy to all their lusty thoughts. I am usually a fan of this but it felt rushed and unfiltered, especially Fizzy. The dating show was a fun element but felt skimmed over because Fizzy only had eyes for Connor. The tension with why they couldn’t be together came way to late in the story. It would have had more impact if we knew they couldn’t be together earlier on due to work issues rather than just trying to keep their feelings hidden because…Connor just couldn’t see that he was the best fit? Overall, an okay read with a strong female lead and fun family and friends.

The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren is a delightful romantic comedy that pairs a romance novelist and a documentary filmmaker in a quest to create the ultimate Hollywood love story. With sparks flying and chemistry sizzling, this novel offers a charming and entertaining ride that takes both characters' careers to new heights.

Felicity "Fizzy" Chen, a successful romance novelist, finds herself at a crossroads when she realizes she hasn't truly experienced the all-encompassing feeling of love she often writes about. This realization prompts her to question her own beliefs and prompts an exploration of her personal life. Fizzy's character is relatable and endearing, and readers will find themselves rooting for her as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery.

Connor Prince, a documentary filmmaker and single father, is faced with the challenge of creating a reality TV show to save his job. When he crosses paths with Fizzy, an opportunity arises to showcase a real-life romance involving the queen of romance herself. The chemistry between Fizzy and Connor is palpable, and their banter and interactions are both entertaining and heartwarming.

Christina Lauren's writing style is engaging and filled with wit, creating a breezy and enjoyable reading experience. The story unfolds with humor and charm, capturing the essence of a romantic comedy. The pacing is well-balanced, ensuring that the plot moves forward while allowing room for character development and relationship building.

The supporting characters, including Connor's daughter and Fizzy's friends, add depth and additional layers to the story. Their presence enhances the emotional connections and provides moments of levity and heartwarming family dynamics.

One of the highlights of The True Love Experiment is the exploration of the romance genre itself. Through Fizzy's character, the authors delve into the ideals and expectations of love found in romance novels, challenging those notions and offering a fresh perspective. This self-reflection adds depth to the narrative and allows for meaningful discussions about the nature of love and relationships.

However, there are instances where the plot feels slightly predictable, following some familiar rom-com tropes. While this may not detract from the overall enjoyment of the story, readers seeking unique twists and surprises may find themselves longing for more originality.

In conclusion, The True Love Experiment is a delightful rom-com rollercoaster that offers a charming and entertaining read. Christina Lauren weaves together the worlds of romance novels and reality TV, creating a captivating story filled with chemistry and self-discovery. If you're in the mood for a light-hearted and feel-good romance with engaging characters and a touch of humor, this book is definitely worth picking up.

Fizzy is a famous romance book writer who is struggling with her next book! When Conner, a documentary filmmaker approaches Fizzy to star in a dating reality show, she agrees thinking it will inspire her to write. Conner and Fizzy are attracted to each other despite the fact that they cannot date. Sparks fly and they can't keep away from each other!

I should start off by saying I really enjoyed Soulmate Equation and found the premise unique and interesting. I am also not a fan of reality shows so there may be some unconscious bias! I struggled with The True Love Experiment to some extent. I didn't find the plot unique and the main characters were not as solid as I would have liked. I liked the Single Dad aspect and cheating was handled surprisingly well. What didn't work for me was the reality show aspect and the pacing in the book. Overall it was a decent read.

I loved The True Love Experiment so much that I finished reading it in a day! Fizzy is exactly the kind of protagonist I look for in a novel - strong but vulnerable, funny and confident, yet not. I can see why fans wanted Fizzy to have her own story. I didn't know that she came from The Soulmate Experiment, so I immediately bought a copy and am working through it too. Looking forward to reading their next release. Thanks to #NetGalley for the opportunity to preview #TheTrueLoveExperiment by Christina Lauren!

I'll admit to skipping the last few CLo books because they felt like women's fiction instead of romcoms. I'm happy to say this one felt like old times.

I loved Fizzy and Connor. She's a delightful handful and horny as hell. He's a straight-laced documentarian. Together they have banter and chemistry for days and I loved reading them figure it out. This cast of secondary characters was also great; Jess and River alone make me want to go back and read the previous one.

Plot wise, it was fun. The mash up of a dating show plus real life kept it interesting while the straight up love letter to fangirls and romance novels had me swooning. The conflict didn't last long and the grand gesture was perfection. And okay, I wanted a bit more from the epilogue, but that's just me being greedy because I did love how it was done.

Overall, this was joyful and I can't wait to read it again.

Romance novelist Felicity “Fizzy” Chen, normally overflowing with lovey-dovey ideas, has hit a bit of a dry spell- recently falling out of love with love.

To be fair, Fizzy doesn’t believe she’s ever actually been in love. Still, this hasn’t stopped her from curating swoon worthy moments for her millions of readers for years. So what if she’s never experienced the real thing first hand? She’s fallen in lust more times than she can count which is good enough, right?

Still, the aging Fizzy starts to feel like a fraud, worrying her best pages have already been written. This is when Connor Prince comes along. A documentary filmmaker, Connor feels like a fish out of water when his boss places in charge of a reality dating show. Then Connor meets the feisty Fizzy and an idea begins to form. Casting the reluctant romance writer as the lead in his new project, the premise puts a unique spin on the dating show humdrums. Tying in modern technology, Fizzy will date men that fit into certain prototypes, their true connection determined by an exciting new app. But the more Fizzy and Connor work together, the more they are attracted…to each other.

The True Love Experiment is a sequel, of sorts, to The Soulmate Equation. While I read that book, I honestly had not made the connection between the two. Fizzy and Connor’s chemistry was palatable, albeit a little too insta love for my liking. Despite this, I loved the hysterical dialogue in this story. Powerhouse writing duo, @christinalauren, also managed to make the much maligned reality show format seem fresh and exciting, creating a fictional dating program I wish could really watch in real life proving once again, any experimentation by this writing duo truly pays off.

I really enjoyed this one. Fizzy is so witty and knows exactly what she wants. She is not afraid of what people think, and she will absolutely say what is on her mind. I loved every part of her character in this book. Conner is so sweet and timid. He thinks through everything he does and really was the perfect book boyfriend in this story. Their chemistry was off the charts! The plot was a breath of fresh air, not the usual that I had been reading. I always love a Christina Lauren book, and this one was no different. Fizzy and Conner's banter was perfection, and their feelings for one another throughout the book were captivating. This book brings sexiness, entertainment, wittiness, and lots of laughter. If you need a little something different as far as plot in the rom-com genre, this is a good one.

Another fun romance from Christina Lauren! I love that this book is an ode to romance novels and those who read them.

Although the premise about a reality dating show isn’t anything new, the main characters and the real issues going on in their lives made this book super relatable (single parent, job trouble, romance struggles, etc.) which I really appreciate.

If you’re looking for a quick romance with great banter, pick this one up!

Fabulous read! Exactly what you expect from a Christina Lauren novel. If you loved their other work, this one will make you so happy!

This is such a cute, cheesy and fun romcom. I laughed out loud at parts! I loved Fizzy, and her s3x positive vibes. She is definitely one of my favorite FMC in a romcom now! A lot of times when books are about authors I find it unoriginal and boring. But Fizzy was so fun! And I love how Christina Lauren talked about how amazing readers are, especially on social media!

This is quite different from The Soulmate Equation, but I’d absolutely read it first and before reading this one. It would be confusing without it!

The True Love Experiment is Christina Lauren at their best. I loved Fizzy and Connor and have been thinking about them since I finished the book. The writing captivated me right from the very first chapter.

Fizzy is a romance writer that seems to be in a bit of a funk. Connor is a producer that would like to make documentaries, but needs to make a dating show for the ratings. Fizzy is cast as the main character for the dating show, but it's Connor who she has her eye on.

Such a fun read! Make sure you read The Soulmate Equation first though if you don't want any spoilers!

At first, I really enjoyed the witty banter between the characters The premise was good: a romance novelist, Fizzy, who has never been in love, agreeing to be on a reality, love-finding tv show if her terms were met. The characters were clever, with lots of funny dialogue, and the sexual tension between Fizzy and her new producer was palpable. However, by the time I was halfway through, I was really tired of the main character and all her sexual joking seemed juvenile. Admittedly, I did not read The Soulmate Equation, which introduced the readers to Fizzy. I also didn't finish the book. Sorry, I did try to read it, but maybe younger women would enjoy it more. It wasn't my cup of tea. Feel free to delete my feedback.

I was gifted this copy by Simon & Schuster Canada and NetGalley for an honest review.

I really enjoyed The Soulmate Equation. This was not my favorite by CL. I don't know, I feel as I have high expectations of their books and the most recent ones have just fallen short for me. Maybe I read too many of the same type of books and I love so many of their books, but this one just left me not caring about anyone for most of the book. I didn't love the personalities, and I mainly finished because I wanted to be able to honestly review. I want to maintain high hopes for them. And the books they write lately are fun beach reads, but they just don't hit the same as Beautiful Bastard series, Josh and Hazel, or Unhoneymooners.

This was such a great book! I was a little worried about starting this one since I have not read The Soulmate Equation which features some of the same characters but I am happy to report that this book works well as a stand-alone. I fell in love with Fizzy and Conner almost immediately and couldn’t wait to see how things would work out. This was almost impossible to put down once I started reading.

Conner is producing a new reality dating show and he wants Fizzy to star. Fizzy is a romance author, currently dealing with a bit of writer’s block, and isn’t sure that this is the right move for her but decides to do it under certain conditions. She gives Conner the task of finding men that fulfill certain Hero characteristics. The show is an instant hit but Conner and Fizzy only seem to have eyes for each other.

Fizzy and Conner were fantastic characters. These two obviously belonged together but their roles on the reality show were a big obstacle that they needed to overcome. I loved the chemistry between this pair and the banter between them was top-notch. Anytime they had the opportunity to spend time together, sparks seems to fly between them and they always seemed to have a lot of fun.

I would highly recommend this book to others. This book was a whole lot of fun with an interesting reality show setting and characters that have left a lasting impression. I hope to read more of this author’s work in the future.

I received a review copy of this book from Gallery Books.
