Fizzy is a famous romance book writer who is struggling with her next book! When Conner, a documentary filmmaker approaches Fizzy to star in a dating reality show, she agrees thinking it will inspire her to write. Conner and Fizzy are attracted to each other despite the fact that they cannot date. Sparks fly and they can't keep away from each other!

I should start off by saying I really enjoyed Soulmate Equation and found the premise unique and interesting. I am also not a fan of reality shows so there may be some unconscious bias! I struggled with The True Love Experiment to some extent. I didn't find the plot unique and the main characters were not as solid as I would have liked. I liked the Single Dad aspect and cheating was handled surprisingly well. What didn't work for me was the reality show aspect and the pacing in the book. Overall it was a decent read.

I loved The True Love Experiment so much that I finished reading it in a day! Fizzy is exactly the kind of protagonist I look for in a novel - strong but vulnerable, funny and confident, yet not. I can see why fans wanted Fizzy to have her own story. I didn't know that she came from The Soulmate Experiment, so I immediately bought a copy and am working through it too. Looking forward to reading their next release. Thanks to #NetGalley for the opportunity to preview #TheTrueLoveExperiment by Christina Lauren!

I'll admit to skipping the last few CLo books because they felt like women's fiction instead of romcoms. I'm happy to say this one felt like old times.

I loved Fizzy and Connor. She's a delightful handful and horny as hell. He's a straight-laced documentarian. Together they have banter and chemistry for days and I loved reading them figure it out. This cast of secondary characters was also great; Jess and River alone make me want to go back and read the previous one.

Plot wise, it was fun. The mash up of a dating show plus real life kept it interesting while the straight up love letter to fangirls and romance novels had me swooning. The conflict didn't last long and the grand gesture was perfection. And okay, I wanted a bit more from the epilogue, but that's just me being greedy because I did love how it was done.

Overall, this was joyful and I can't wait to read it again.

Romance novelist Felicity “Fizzy” Chen, normally overflowing with lovey-dovey ideas, has hit a bit of a dry spell- recently falling out of love with love.

To be fair, Fizzy doesn’t believe she’s ever actually been in love. Still, this hasn’t stopped her from curating swoon worthy moments for her millions of readers for years. So what if she’s never experienced the real thing first hand? She’s fallen in lust more times than she can count which is good enough, right?

Still, the aging Fizzy starts to feel like a fraud, worrying her best pages have already been written. This is when Connor Prince comes along. A documentary filmmaker, Connor feels like a fish out of water when his boss places in charge of a reality dating show. Then Connor meets the feisty Fizzy and an idea begins to form. Casting the reluctant romance writer as the lead in his new project, the premise puts a unique spin on the dating show humdrums. Tying in modern technology, Fizzy will date men that fit into certain prototypes, their true connection determined by an exciting new app. But the more Fizzy and Connor work together, the more they are attracted…to each other.

The True Love Experiment is a sequel, of sorts, to The Soulmate Equation. While I read that book, I honestly had not made the connection between the two. Fizzy and Connor’s chemistry was palatable, albeit a little too insta love for my liking. Despite this, I loved the hysterical dialogue in this story. Powerhouse writing duo, @christinalauren, also managed to make the much maligned reality show format seem fresh and exciting, creating a fictional dating program I wish could really watch in real life proving once again, any experimentation by this writing duo truly pays off.

I really enjoyed this one. Fizzy is so witty and knows exactly what she wants. She is not afraid of what people think, and she will absolutely say what is on her mind. I loved every part of her character in this book. Conner is so sweet and timid. He thinks through everything he does and really was the perfect book boyfriend in this story. Their chemistry was off the charts! The plot was a breath of fresh air, not the usual that I had been reading. I always love a Christina Lauren book, and this one was no different. Fizzy and Conner's banter was perfection, and their feelings for one another throughout the book were captivating. This book brings sexiness, entertainment, wittiness, and lots of laughter. If you need a little something different as far as plot in the rom-com genre, this is a good one.

Another fun romance from Christina Lauren! I love that this book is an ode to romance novels and those who read them.

Although the premise about a reality dating show isn’t anything new, the main characters and the real issues going on in their lives made this book super relatable (single parent, job trouble, romance struggles, etc.) which I really appreciate.

If you’re looking for a quick romance with great banter, pick this one up!

Fabulous read! Exactly what you expect from a Christina Lauren novel. If you loved their other work, this one will make you so happy!

This is such a cute, cheesy and fun romcom. I laughed out loud at parts! I loved Fizzy, and her s3x positive vibes. She is definitely one of my favorite FMC in a romcom now! A lot of times when books are about authors I find it unoriginal and boring. But Fizzy was so fun! And I love how Christina Lauren talked about how amazing readers are, especially on social media!

This is quite different from The Soulmate Equation, but I’d absolutely read it first and before reading this one. It would be confusing without it!

READ THIS IF YOU LIKE:
-Dating shows like Bachelorette or Love Is Blind
-Sassy, confident and unabashedly dirty female main characters

The True Love Experiment is Christina Lauren at their best. I loved Fizzy and Connor and have been thinking about them since I finished the book. The writing captivated me right from the very first chapter.

Fizzy is a romance writer that seems to be in a bit of a funk. Connor is a producer that would like to make documentaries, but needs to make a dating show for the ratings. Fizzy is cast as the main character for the dating show, but it's Connor who she has her eye on.

Such a fun read! Make sure you read The Soulmate Equation first though if you don't want any spoilers!

At first, I really enjoyed the witty banter between the characters The premise was good: a romance novelist, Fizzy, who has never been in love, agreeing to be on a reality, love-finding tv show if her terms were met. The characters were clever, with lots of funny dialogue, and the sexual tension between Fizzy and her new producer was palpable. However, by the time I was halfway through, I was really tired of the main character and all her sexual joking seemed juvenile. Admittedly, I did not read The Soulmate Equation, which introduced the readers to Fizzy. I also didn't finish the book. Sorry, I did try to read it, but maybe younger women would enjoy it more. It wasn't my cup of tea. Feel free to delete my feedback.

I was gifted this copy by Simon & Schuster Canada and NetGalley for an honest review.

I really enjoyed The Soulmate Equation. This was not my favorite by CL. I don't know, I feel as I have high expectations of their books and the most recent ones have just fallen short for me. Maybe I read too many of the same type of books and I love so many of their books, but this one just left me not caring about anyone for most of the book. I didn't love the personalities, and I mainly finished because I wanted to be able to honestly review. I want to maintain high hopes for them. And the books they write lately are fun beach reads, but they just don't hit the same as Beautiful Bastard series, Josh and Hazel, or Unhoneymooners.

This was such a great book! I was a little worried about starting this one since I have not read The Soulmate Equation which features some of the same characters but I am happy to report that this book works well as a stand-alone. I fell in love with Fizzy and Conner almost immediately and couldn’t wait to see how things would work out. This was almost impossible to put down once I started reading.

Conner is producing a new reality dating show and he wants Fizzy to star. Fizzy is a romance author, currently dealing with a bit of writer’s block, and isn’t sure that this is the right move for her but decides to do it under certain conditions. She gives Conner the task of finding men that fulfill certain Hero characteristics. The show is an instant hit but Conner and Fizzy only seem to have eyes for each other.

Fizzy and Conner were fantastic characters. These two obviously belonged together but their roles on the reality show were a big obstacle that they needed to overcome. I loved the chemistry between this pair and the banter between them was top-notch. Anytime they had the opportunity to spend time together, sparks seems to fly between them and they always seemed to have a lot of fun.

I would highly recommend this book to others. This book was a whole lot of fun with an interesting reality show setting and characters that have left a lasting impression. I hope to read more of this author’s work in the future.

I received a review copy of this book from Gallery Books.

4.5 stars.
Loved this one as much as I've loved all other Christina Lauren books I read. The premise of having a romance author be on a dating show that included all the best tropes of men? Love it. A British producer bantering with her throughout the book? Love it. The audience clearly seeing that chemistry and rooting for them. LOVE IT.
Fizzy and Connor had GREAT chemistry and there was a lovely balance of sexy, angsty, and comedy. Their flirting was top notch! I loved the different tropes Fizzy asked for with the men, including the one who got away and the 'cinnamon roll'. I typically don't watch reality dating shows but I would absolutely watch this one. Fizzy was a feisty character who knew what she wanted, including Connor. The progression from lust to love was so seamless and the scene on the beach was so intimate and sexy. Connor held his own and his relationship with his daughter was so lovely. He truly was a well-rounded character and a perfect match for Fizzy. Highly recommend this book for romcom fans as well as reality dating fans. Very entertaining and enjoyable.

I think I loved The True Love Experiment even more than I loved it's predecessor, The Soulmate Equation. Fizzy is a fun and spunky lead that you can't help but fall in love with as soon as we met her in book 1. Connor is the perfect curmudgeon DILF, plus he's British, he's like the perfect combination of romantic heroes in one. Christina Lauren has done it again and I cannot wait for their next book!

I really enjoyed this romance. In the past Christina Lauren books have left me wanting a little something but this one delivered. I loved the chemistry between Fizzy and Connor; loved the female friendship focus and auntie relationships, and I loved the undercurrent of feminism that ran throughout. I also loved the spice level (whereas in the past, I was a little disappointed, not going to lie). This book will definitely make me reach for Christina Lauren picks in the future!

While I think this could have been better as a slow burn, I still loved it so much. I am thrilled when the main characters are romance enthusiasts or romance authors because there's so much leaning into the genre that it's always a blast. Fizzy does not disappoint. She wants her reality show to be stunningly full of romance tropes and I ate it up. Give me all the tropes, all the archetypes, everything.

FIZZY'S BOOK!!!

Fizzy is such a glorious character - so full of life! But, at the beginning of this book, her fizz has flattened. She's realized that despite being an acclaimed romance novelist, she's never actually been in love.

Connor Prince is a documentary filmmaker whose boss has tasked him with producing a reality TV show. Not, really his jam. But, then he creates a concept that has Fizzy looking for love, with all the traditional romance novel heroes - the Hot Nerd, the Cinnamon Roll, The One That Got Away, plus there's a tie into GeneticAlly the DNA matchmaking technology first introduced in the Soulmate Equation. Perfect!

Not only do we get a steamy tale of Fizzy and Connor's romance, we also get to revisit Jess, River, and Juno from The Soulmate Equation. It felt like being reunited with old friends.

The only reason this isn't a 5-star review is that my rule-following tendencies (legacy of Catholic school) were a bit stressed by Fizzy and Connor's clandestine romance, in direct violation of her contract. Gave me a bit of agita! lol

But, like in all good romances, all's well that ends well.

I can't believe I forgot to post this sooner. I am soooooo thankful to Gallery Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this digital ARC in return for an honest review.

These ladies really know how to pace a romance novel, and The True Love Experiment is no exception. A slow-but-not-too-slow burning Forbidden Romance between showrunner (Connor) and contestant center this book, with the added catch that the contestant (Fizzy) is a romance novelist. Very meta of them! I was charmed by all of the characters and found the relationships to be perfectly nuanced. I devoured this book in two days and I’m already looking forward to their next.
