The True Love Experiment is a saucy replay of the bachelorette reality show. It’s got amazing chemistry between Fizzy and Connor. It’s a sweet falling in love story with a twist. Loved this author!

Once again CLo did not disappoint ! Might be one of my favorites of her to date. I flew right though it. Happy, vibrant, flirty, & fun!
I had read the Soulmate Equation so I loved how DNADuo was tied into this book. Even if you didn’t read that book, CLo does an excellent job describing the dating profile so make it not confusing.
Fizzy and Connor were delightful and relatable. Loved the banter and always enjoy some good steamy romance scenes 🔥

I am not normally a romance reader; I discovered the duo of Christina Lauren quite by accident and have not looked back. I adore the banter of the characters and their portrayal of women does not offend me as romance novels of the past did.
I first became acquainted with Fizzy Chen in the SOULMATE EQUATION and I was enchanted with her character and was thrilled when her story was continued in THE TRUE LOVE EXPIRIMENT, which can be viewed as a stand-alone book. Though I enjoyed having been previously acquainted with many of the characters it was not a prerequisite.
Fizzy Chen is a romance novelist that can’t seem to find love for herself.
Connor Price produces nature documentaries. Fizzy and Connor are an unlikely union. But Connor is asked to produce a reality dating show featuring Fizzy Chen. I have never watched a reality dating show, thought this might hinder my enjoyment of this book but it did NOT.

Christina and Lauren continue to develop books with witty, intelligent, likeable characters. I cannot wait for their next book. I am there, hopefully on a beach, sipping a cocktail and getting lost in their world.

Fizzy is a popular Romance novelist, but it hits her one day that she has never been in love. As she’s experiencing a personal and professional crisis, she meets Connor, who’s experiencing one of his own. He’s a documentary filmmaker, but if he wants to stay in the same town as his young daughter he’ll have to take a job directing a reality show starring the queen of romance herself, Fizzy.

Sparks fly in this completely charming story from the team of Christina Lauren - maybe my favorite of their collaborations!

I loved this book! I loved the storyline, the female main character and all the side characters, and oh my goodness the banter. This was just a fun read. If I could give it 10 stars I would!

Another great read from Christina Lauren. I think I may have been one of the ones begging for a Fizzy story after The Soulmate Equation -- so thanks for that! This has all the elements of a great rom com -- adorably likeable characters, good chemistry, and some stream. I love that the side characters are also so well-written, too.

The sparks are flying on more than just the cover!

We finally get the story of Felicity “Fizzy” Chen, first introduced in The Soulmate Equation, as she becomes her own main character instead of the “sidekick bestie” she refers to herself as. A romance novelist, she crosses paths with Connor Prince, a “Hot Brit” documentary filmmaker who has to switch gears and produce a reality dating show. Fizzy becomes the star of the show as she meets her eight potential matches, all fitting some literary romantic archetype…from the cinnamon roll to the bad boy. Soon, both Fizzy and Connor realize things may not be as simple as what unfolds on screen.

I always love a good Christina Lauren novel. Had a hard time putting this one down from the get-go, finding myself cracking up (and relating) to Fizzy from the very first chapter. I even caught some happy tears at the end.

Thank you to

Fizzy is a romance novelist, but her own love life leaves something to be desired. She’s never actually been in love herself. When she has the opportunity to be the lead on a new reality TV show, she’s apprehensive but ultimately agrees thanks to the handsome producer, Connor and his willingness to meet her extensive list of demands. But as they spend time together, it becomes clear that Fizzy’s perfect match might not be one of the contestants - in fact, her connection with Connor seems to be the strongest one on the show. However, they’ve both signed a contract and the show must go on, so they have to ignore their feelings for each other.

I loved Fizzy in The Soulmate Equation and I was so excited that she got her own book and it did not disappoint! The dating show premise is always one of my favorite storylines, but the way this show was created was a fun, fresh spin. Fizzy is the fun and sassy heroine I want to have as a friend and I love how she didn’t make things easy for Connor. Their banter was incredible. I also adored Connor. He was the perfect match for Izzy and was so supportive of not only Izzy, but everyone in his life, including his daughter and his ex-wife. He was so kind and a genuinely great guy. This book was just the fun read I needed in my life.

So…who’s a fan of reality TV? Maybe those “dating” shows that keep popping up everywhere? Yes? I thought so! Then you’re going to adore this book!

Fizzy Chen is a romance novelist that can’t seem to find love for herself. Her personal love radar is dead and now it’s spilling into her work, leaving her with a serious writers block. What must she do to restart her aching heart?

Connor Price produces documentaries. (Boring!)🥱. But the company he works for is going in a completely different direction and asks Connor to put together a reality dating show featuring none other than Fizzy Chen!

Can Connor pull off a wildly successful reality show and save his career? More importantly, will Fizzy at last find her love?

This book is listed as a stand-alone. But there’s several references to the previous novel, The Soulmate Equation. So if you do have the opportunity…read that one first and it’ll make the experience of diving into this novel that much better!

I loved this book! Basically because I too have fallen victim to those crazy dating shows! Yes! It’s true! They’re fun, wild and make for good escapism!

Christina (&) Lauren once again deliver a fun contemporary romance novel that will keep you laughing and cheering throughout! These two authors make an incredible team!

A buddy read with Susanne!

Fizzy, from Soulmate Equation, gets to live out one of romance books in The True Love Experiment. A renowned romance author, she's been in a bit of a dry spell, figuratively and literally. Conner, a documentary filmmaker, is asked to step outside the box to produce a dating show. While visiting his daughter at his ex-wives house, he comes across Fizzy's books and declares she's perfect for the show.

Fizzy is a force to be reckoned with as she's confident, sexy and not afraid to voice her opinion. While I am not a fan of reality dating shows, this book worked for me. The characters were a blast, and the chemistry between Conner/Fizzy was HOT. I couldn't stop reading as I jus wanted their happily ever after!

THE TRUE LOVE EXPERIMENT • Christina Lauren

This book is a *sort of* sequel to THE SOULMATE EQUATION (aka the MC's best friend is now being featured in her own love story). IT WAS FANTASTIC. Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Abridged Goodreads Synopsis: Felicity “Fizzy” Chen hasn’t ever really been in love. Lust? Definitely. But that swoon-worthy, all-encompassing feeling she's used to writing about in her bestseller romance novels? Nope. So what happens when the optimism she’s spent her career encouraging in readers starts to feel like a lie? Cue writer's block. Meanwhile, Connor Prince (documentary filmmaker and single father) loves his work, but when his boss orders him to create a reality dating show, Connor is out of his element. Luckily, a chance run-in with Fizzy offers Connor the perfect solution. What if he could show the queen of romance herself falling head-over-heels for all the world to see? And just like that, Fizzy and Connor join forces to craft the perfect Hollywood love story and take both of their careers to the next level—but only if they can keep the chemistry between them from taking the whole thing off script.

First, let me address the elephant in the room...YES, Fizzy is a ridiculous nickname, but honesty? It's perfect for her character, and really grows on you. Secondly, NO you technically do not have to read THE SOULMATE EQUATION (TSE) first. However, you'll appreciate this book more if you do. The premise of the dating show is based off of a dating app that is created/explained in TSE. Plus, the lead duo in that book makes quite a few appearances in this one. Besides, TSE is also a great read.

To make what could be a long, rambling review about my love for this book readable...I am obsessed with this book. It really is a love letter to romance books, and I adored every second of it. I am also a huge fan of reality dating shows so reading about one is always fun. This book is probably the best story I've read so far that features a dating show too. Like seriously, 5/5 stars.

“Book people are just better, I swear by it.”

Soooo, should I have read The Soulmate Equation first? But of course. Did I? Absolutely not. But in my defense I already bought it and I went into this one blind 🙈

You see, the first Christina Lauren I’ve read was The Unhoneymooners and obviously loved it. Then I picked up Love and Other Words and became absolute trash for it and for their books. And that is how I found myself requesting this ARC without even bothering to read the blurb.

But to I *need* to read The Soulmate Equation first? No! Fizzy’s story lives so well on its own. Connor Prince III’s story doesn’t need anything else. It’s perfect and perfectly imperfect 🥹🖤

I find it fascinating how I don’t really care for reality TV — and before you come at Connor and me, it’s just not my thing and I don’t consume that much TV outside news and sports… don’t judge! — but I’ve been loving these bachelor/bachelorette inspired books. So much fun to read, specially if no love triangles are involved 😁

This is also a love letter to us romance readers. And I will forever love Christina (&) Lauren for that 🖤

(And might I say this also has a dash of Pride & Prejudice at the beginning and I was soooo there for it 😌)

What’s inside:
🖤contemporary romance
🖤quest for true love
🖤single dad
🖤romance writer
🖤bachelorette vibes
🖤dual POV
🖤same world as The Soulmate Equation

Adult. 4.5 stars ⭐️

The Bachelor-esq take on this book kept me coming back for more, even when I was trying to get my day job done. I loved Fizzy's story and how she was unapologetically herself the entire time on the show. Even though I knew they would end up together, the storytelling kept me second guessing that until the very end.

When romance writer, Fizzy, is asked to participate in a dating show for TV, she has a lot of input into the types of men who are chosen. However, things get complicated when she ends up falling for the show's producer instead. There is thought provoking commentary about the romance genre in general and the assumptions that are often attached to it's fan base and those who create it.

What I loved:
- Fantastic characters! I loved the main characters Fizzy and Connor. Their chemistry was fantastic and its why I love these authors so much.
- Great side characters! Of course I loved Jess and River from the first book. I loved Fizzy's parents as well. Connor's healthy friendship with his ex-wife.
- Mostly short chapters
- Plot moves along at a nice pace, easy to follow.
- Believable events that make sense.
- Loved the perspective on romance fans and creaters and how they are wrongly perceived.

What I didn't love:
- Nothing

Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the complimentary e-ARC and the publisher for the complimentary hard copy. All opinions provided are my own.

Christina Lauren’s The True Love Experiment is so funny & effervescent & charming & hot & then BAM comes a twist & then it hurts for a bit & then it’s soft & fun & adorable again.

The end.

But seriously, Fizzy’s book is great.

The premise of this book is that Fizzy feels like she’s lost some of her mojo & some of her certainty about what she’s doing career-wise & maybe even life-wise & she signs on to be the star of a reality tv show that she—a famous romance novelist—will help design.

The producer of the show is Connor, a hot British single dad.

Though they don’t get off on the best foot, soon after they’re friends & that friendship helps sustain them through the ups & downs & explosive attraction between them.

This book has some real funny moments, like when Fizzy gives a list of the romance hero archetypes she wants to date on her show & Connor is befuddled by how to cast “vampire.”

Not only is the relationship between Fizzy & Connor like warm golden sunshine but I absolutely love what the book has to say about the romance genre & its readers & just how important respect is for people’s various interests. Even “nice,” hot guys can be condescending about romance…

The twist genuinely surprised me & I’m still not quite sure how I feel about it as a reader. I’m guessing the people who read this book will have lots of thoughts about it & my DMs are open.

DMs are also open for any squeeing or mutual chuckling. I’m really glad I read this one.

4.5⭐️. Out 05/16.

CWs: Fizzy was the other woman in a previous relationship without her knowledge & that man’s wife publicly confronted her before the book began. Connor cheated on a previous partner.

“The True Love Experiment” written by Christina Lauren stars Fizzy and Conner. Fizzy is a romance novelist and has come to realize that she has never actually been in love before. She has this amazing career, but feels so lost and unsure of where her life is going. Conner is a single dad and filmmaker. When his boss asks him to put on a romance show, he feels way out of his comfort zone. By chance, Conner meets Fizzy and he decides that she is the one that will make the fans love the show! After some hesitation, she says yes to being the lead character. This book has all of the cute, witty banter and such fun characters! Thank you so much to NetGalley and publisher for the ARC.

💖 The True Love Experiment - Christina Lauren

5 ⭐️- Oh my heart. If you’re looking for a summer romance, look no further. ALTHOUGH, apparently you’re supposed to read The Soulmate Equation first, which I did not, OOPS. Regardless, I LOVED this book. Guilty pleasure (don’t call it that anymore!) reality dating show with a romance author? Sign me up! This book is for anyone who writes, reads, and loves love and romance.

Felicity “Fizzy” Chen is lost. She’s a beloved romance novelist who while giving a graduation commencement speech, realizes she hasn’t been practicing what she preaches. Connor Price, a hot British single dad, is a documentary filmmaker who finds himself being ordered by his boss to produce a reality TV dating show. Desperate to find a lead, he runs into Fizzy and offers her the spot. She is quick to say no, unless he can fulfill her list of demands…

SO, Fizzy is a crossover character from Christina Lauren’s The Soulmate Equation, which I didn’t know. I definitely think you can read this without reading the other, UNLESS you’d be annoyed to have a small spoiler of the other crossover characters? Honestly? I didn’t mind one bit.

I LOVED this book. It was funny, lovable, frustrating, and heartwarming all at the same time. Fizzy is a strong, proud of herself woman, who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to be herself. Connor is a hot British single dad who puts his daughter first and is quite literally TOO easy to love. If you’re a hopeless romantic, you love romance books (with some spice 🥵) and are looking for a good beach read, this one’s for you!

Don’t mind me - just off to read The Soulmate Equation next and do this thing backwards 🤣

Thanks Netgalley and Galley Books for the early ARC of this lovable gem!

This is my third Christina Lauren book, and let me just say it was significantly spicier than I was expecting based on the other two I’ve read (The Unhoneymooners and In a Holidaze), so if you’re looking for that level of low spice, this book might not be for you. But if you like or don’t mind a bit more, then you should definitely pick up this book.
Fizzy is tons of fun. She’s spunky and funny and honest. Connor is lovable and swoony. Though I wished it was a little stronger, I enjoyed their emotional connection as well as their chemistry. Though Connor and Fizzy were both fun to read about and easy to love, there were some times and aspects where they felt a little bit flat, like there was just a small amount of depth missing that would have taken this book all the way to five stars.
Similarly, I didn’t love the way that the third act crisis played out. It felt a little too fast and too discombobulated. Connor’s reaction of “It’s okay to need time to process; I’m going to give her time to process” seemed right for his character and the situation… but then it turned out “time to process” meant one hour and that’s it? His immediate reaction vs his next few days reaction felt very disconnected from each other, and I never really understood his point of view in those early conversations. I don’t think it was well articulated or well developed.
That said, the majority of this book was fun and easy to read. I loved the discussions on romance books and reality dating shows and how media directed at women is so easily snubbed—and how it shouldn’t be.
I love reality TV based books, and this was no exception. In this one, the reality show doesn’t start until about halfway through. As I started the book and realized it was going to be a while before we got into that part of the plot, I was a little uncertain, but I ended up really enjoying the fact that we got to know our MCs before all the chaos of the show started. The show was fun, but it was unique, too. I really enjoyed the plot development on that front.
This is technically the spin off/sequel to Christina Lauren’s other book The Soulmate Equation, but I haven’t read TSE and I still found this easy to understand and easy to fall into. It isn’t my favorite Christina Lauren book, but I do think it is a testament to their talent, and it has me wanting to read more of their work.
