Ahhh, C.Lo is BACK!

This book was so much fun to read. It was definitely an homage to romance readers and it 100% did not disappoint.

Fizzy Chen is a romance author who is in a slump. She's got writers block and she can't even find herself attracted enough for her usual flings. In comes Connor Price III, a producer of nature documentaries who is tasked with creating a reality dating show to keep his job. With the help of his ex-wife, he enlists Fizzy to star in this show - after he's cast men that fit classic romance novel archetypes (I love a good Cinnamon Roll Hero myself!). Sparks fly between the two and they quickly find that keeping things professional is impossible to do. How can Fizzy find love on a TV show when she's found it off?

This one gets five very, very enthusiastic stars. Is it wrong that I want MORE Fizzy and Connor?

The True Love Experiment by @christinalauren ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️thank you to @gallerybooks for this advanced copy! I didn’t realize when I first started reading this that it was a sequel to the Soulmate Equation, and I was so happy when I figured it out. Fizzy’s story was funny, engaging, and kept my attention throughout! This book was everything I love about Christina Lauren, good job ladies!

Another hit from Christina Lauren! I LOVED that we finally got the story that Fizzy deserved after being introduced to her in The Soulmate Equation. I felt that this book moved a little slow at first, but it made sense that we needed a lot of buildup before that wild ride of a second half of the book! Connor + Fizzy (and Stevie) FOREVER! Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

How am I supposed to recover after this book? I have to wait to get my hands on a physical copy!? This is torture but I am very grateful to have gotten the ARC in exchange for an honest review, so thank you NetGalley and Gallery Books.

Fizzy’s story is just as good as I thought it would be! She’s outspoken, funny, and so honest! I loved seeing her grow into someone who never experienced love and connection romantically before to someone who was so in love that she would do anything to make her partner happy.

Connor is a super dad, great at his job, loyal, and very passionate. Single dad trope?! Yes please. Aaaaand, he’s younger than Fizzy, not by much, but it’s a good change of pace!

Their chemistry is undeniable, this is by no means a slow burn but the authors were able to keep me interested because they presented a problem that could have many solutions and I kept trying to guess how they would solve it so we could get a HEA! And let me tell, it was better than I imagined it ♥️

They mention the in the dedication that this book is a love letter to the romance genre and it really was! It shows us all the reasons we love this genre so much!

This book is swoony, irreverent, funny, and truly one of my favorites by Christina Lauren!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Christina Lauren never disappoints and their latest, The True Love Experiment might be my favorite. They write with the perfect mixture of rom com, but with added in depth to each story. Loved this one and highly recommend!

Wisecracking, fearless romance novelist Felicity Chen, the best friend sidekick made of charisma, witchcraft, and bad judgment from The Soulmate Equation, has lost her mojo, and agrees to star in a reality dating show on her terms: the gents have to represent popular romance archetypes, and none of this forced proximity secluded crap, she wants her friends and family to have input and insight, just like in real life. The eight Heroes assembled represent tattooed bad boy, hot nerd, and vampire, but it’s the sexy British producer Connor–a total Cinnamon Bun–that Fizzy clicks with. It’s rewarding to see the novelist and Tinder queen thrown for a loop over feelings that she’s never experienced before. The ante is upped when the men all take River’s cutting-edge matchmaking genome sequencing test with GeneticAlly. The audience will vote on who Fizzy should end up with, and then the match results will be revealed. Will the science or heart rule?

More tension is created as Fizzy continues to fight writer’s block, Connor is actually a documentarian who doesn’t want to be producing reality television, he doesn’t do short term and she only does short term; her family doesn’t take her work seriously and she’s still perceiving pressure to settle down, get married and have a baby. And then, Fizzy is the one who makes a terrible error and has to win back her man. Some of the ground covered is that while we are influenced by our pasts, past actions do not have to define us. There’s also not so subtle commentary on continued derogatory attitude thrown at the romance genre.

Family and friends remain important in the story and character development. One of the best parts for me was the reappearance of grumpy hot nerd River, who keeps walking into rooms to her his wife or Felicity utter something outrageous…and walks right back out again. Connor’s daughter Stevie and Jess’s daughter Juno bond over hot boy band Wonderland. Felicity’s brother Peter is getting married, and since she has an agreement to not see any of the potential matches outside the show, none of the competitors can be her plus one…but Connor can, and does. The glamorous and expensive festivities that blend traditional and modern Korean customs add background and rich multicultural detail.

The dating adventures are entertaining, and the relationship between Fizzy and Connor balances both hot and sweet; the combination of funny banter, smart writing, juicy detail, and swoony romance are what we’ve come to expect from Christina Lauren, and this one does not disappoint. The drama at the live season finale and big reveal is palpable and perfectly paced and executed.

I received a free advance reader’s review copy of #TheTrueLoveExperiment from #NetGalley.

I always love Christina Lauren’s books. “The Unhoneymooners” made me laugh out loud. I love the banter and the easy dialogue. So I was thrilled to receive an ARC of their new book and it took me on quite a journey. AT FIRST,I thought our main character Fizzy was a little too crass. I found her comments kind of cringey. She was so unladylike and maybe I am getting old but i kind of sighed and thought, “I am tired of dirty books.” But I kept with it, because Fizzy, the romance writer turned reality TV star suddenly started making me chuckle. I started to see that they were almost writing a role reversal… making the male character more passive and the female lead more aggressive. I see what you did there, Christina Lauren!
Fizzy’s TV producer/love interest, Connor, might be my favorite character the duo has created. He was swoon-worthy, kind and also hilarious. Fizzy is cast as the star of a TV series similar to “The Bachelorette” to test (cameo alert) “The Soulmate’s Equations” matchmaking site. She gets to choose from 8 “heroes” and see if she can find love in real life instead of just in her novels. This book gets better and better. I was truly sad to see it end. They knocked it out of the park again. 5 stars

TTLE was my most anticipated read of 2023 … & CLo did not disappoint with doing Fizzy’s story justice! I mean, come on, a dating show premise + single dad trope? Talk about two of my favorite things! It was so nice to turn the spotlight on Fizzy, get some insight into her heart & her career & her family, while she still kept up her witty & unapologetic voice. Connor was a dream of a leading man. While I’m not entirely sold on the premise of the show, it was something I could accept & overlook. This was such a love letter to romance readers. You can tell how much CLo love their fans in the way Fizzy loves hers. And how much fun was it to see Jess, Juno, & River again?!

✨️A MILLION STARS FOR FIZZY AND CONNOR✨️

Let me start by saying that I loved The Soulmate Equation with all my heart and wasn't sure I would love Fizzy's story. Well, CLo had other plans for me. The True Love Experiment is without a doubt my favorite of their books since Beautiful Player! I laughed, I cried, I couldn't put it down.

The banter between Fizzy and Connor is absolutely God Tier. You cannot read this book without falling in love with both of them and their families. The steam and chemistry between these two was absolute perfection.

Any romance lover will adore this book. It ranks high on my top reads list and I will be buying this book for everyone I know! ✨️

Omg I loved this book! The first one is one of my favorites by Christina Lauren, so I was super excited when I got an ARC for it! How can you not love Fizzy and Connor?! Their story was a slow burn, and you definitely root for them the whole book! Loved this one! :)

What a fantastic love story! Christina Lauren brings back some of their beloved characters for their newest book, The True Love Experiment. Romance novelist, Fizzy, begrudgingly agrees to fight writer's block by being the lead contestant on a reality television dating show. What she fails to predict is that her love match may be someone quite unexpected.

Christina Lauren brings back characters we have loved before. It is like reuniting with old friends and getting to know them better. The story is lighthearted and perfect for today's world. I absolutely loved it!

Thank you NetGalley for an arc of this delightful book.

Wow where can I start? To be honest, I haven’t read a book from CL that I’ve ever truly disliked. Their books are romance classics. They bring modern writing and modern love to the masses, and I applaud them for it. This book was no different! I loved The Soulmate Equation, and the fact this is Fizzy’s story makes my heart melt. I will say, this book surpassed my expectations. The plot was playful, unique and romantic. I loved it all!!!

WOW! 4.5 ⭐️

This was so amazing I giggled and cried and couldn’t put it down!!

A romance author turns reality show star when a British film maker is forced into producing a… dating show? Ahhh! This dynamic and plot was everything I wanted!

I am absolutely obsessed with Fizzy, she is the perfect character and I felt her depth and the reality of her so clearly throughout the book. I wanted her to get everything out of life and I would read it all. I am also a bigggg fan of the way this relationship between her and Conner grew I was literally giggling and kicking my feet.

I was so torn up over the “third act breakup” and it felt a bit weirdly miss communication-esque, despite the two characters having good communication i was SO STRESSED.

I will be recommending this to everyone i know when it comes out. .

Thank you netgalley and gallery books for this ARC, this review reflects my honest opinion!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this fantastic, well-written novel.

I absolutely loved this book!!!!

I greatly enjoyed Soulmate Equation, so it was great for those characters to return but this focused on Fizzy and her romantic journey. While they do not have to be read in order, I was still pleased to see the return of River, but he was not the sole focus of this book but Connor took his place.

Fizzy was a thirty-seven year old single girl who had been on countless dates and never found the right one. Then after she went on a date with a guy (Rob) whom she thought was single and later learned he was married, she decided to step back from the dating world. This also impacted her next soon to be novel that was not going anywhere fast.

The dating/reality television show was an amazing way to create this book which added tension, mystery and swooning/spicy romance.

The characters were so easy to follow and love. While reading, I found myself guessing which character would be her match and the sparks continued to fly.

Overall, I loved it and glad I had the opportunity to review this eBook through NetGalley.

Connor is a producer of documentaries for a small film company. His whole world is his 10-year-old daughter Stevie. They told him he needs to produce a reality romance show. He may lose his job if he can’t deliver. His ex-wife loves the romance books by Felicity Chen, Fizzy, as her friends call her. He decides to ask her to be on the show to choose her true love. They will be matched using a DNA program. Fizzy is in a slump and cannot make herself feel the happiness romance novels need. As much as she does not want to do this, she needs to motivate herself to produce her next book. I loved this book. Fizzy tells Connor what the 8 Heroes must represent which is creative and keeps each contestant in a world of their own. Fizzy’s friends and family contribute so much, especially her niece, Stevie, who happens to be Conner’s daughter. I loved the efforts Fizzy and Conner put in to avoid the attraction to each other. This book shows what love is about, how community contributes to happiness, and the need to be honest with one another. Wonderful story, romance, and characters!
