I was excited to read The In-Laws by Laura Wolfe but could not get into the plot or writing style of the book.

I had guessed quite early on what was going on with this, but it was still fun to see how it would unfold. There was a nice little twist at the end as to whether the people you thought were in the dark early on could have actually known certain things. All in all, an enjoyable read.

The bride-to-be Abigail arranged a camping trip for three nights adventure for her Dad and Mom, Kristen and John Cates, as well as her fiancé Pete and his parents, Darla and Kenny, before their upcoming wedding. They headed towards Michigan's upper peninsula to their trekking and camping site. She had her Diamond ring on during the trip as she was getting married just three months from now. Liam was their tour guide. Pete was working for Abigail's Dad who was very impressed with Pete's work for him. The first few nights of their trip were not as blast as they thought. As they followed Liam into the dense woods with their professional guide, things started getting creepy and someone started leaving messages at the campsites creating a negative energy threatening them. Secrets and troubling stories about each other's families that were hidden unfolded on this trip. Abigail's dad loses his medication and they lost the bear spray. Was someone stealing their belongings?

A really good read. The first chapter is a bit slow but then it really gets going. So much tension and so gripping. Great ending too after some good twists.

This was definitely a unique storyline and was full of very well-crafted characters, in my opinion. I really liked the multiple layers of secrets and deception that was uncovered about each character in this book. I would recommend this to all my thriller/mystery lovers.

This proved to be a quick and delightful read, centering around Abigail, who is on the brink of marrying Pete. However, her concerns about their parents not knowing each other well or having a strong rapport prompt her to organize a three-night wilderness retreat. The aim is to foster better connections through team-building activities. As they embark on this outdoor adventure, it becomes apparent that several individuals harbor secrets. While the majority of the chapters are narrated from Abigail's perspective, scattered throughout the book are chapters providing insights from other characters' points of view.

The story's unique premise and well-crafted characters added to its appeal. I particularly appreciated the unveiling of multiple layers of secrets, as each character grappled with something hidden.

A weekend away on a daring hike in the remote wilderness of a National Park with a guide....What could go wrong? The reveal in the description lets you know someone is not going to make it out!
The engaged couple Abigail and Pete have decided to take their parents for a camping trip and hike so they can "get to know each other". Abigail's parents have high standards and live a luxurious life and Pete even works with Abigail's father, so they adore him!! Pete's family is your average income family with peculiarities and a reveal that leaves the rest of the group unsure of this trip.

The first hint to leave this camping idea was a distraught couple at the Visitor's station fighting and not able to get into their vehicle quick enough. The Second hint is a creepy, shadow lurking man... begging for food.
Not a good idea with the in-laws, but it gets worse when their food & medicine disappears and odd messages are left throughout the trail... Not to mention the secrets exposed....You will not believe what all happens! It keeps you on the edge throughout with several twists to keep you guessing!!
I enjoyed this edgy thriller with a disturbing level of distrust, but this took hiking with family to a whole new level.

I love to read family psychological books because it’s something most people can relate to! This book was a winner from start to finish and didn’t disappoint!

This was a fast gripping thriller for which I enjoyed every twists.

Abigail wants to organise the perfect camping trip so that her parents and future in laws can get together and hopefully bond after a disastrous first meeting ahead of her wedding with Pete.
What was meant to be a fun little getaway in the remote wilderness with an experienced guide may turn into a nightmare when everybody seems to have secrets to hide and the nature might not be as welcoming as it seems.

I really enjoyed the pace of the story, the setting up of the scene, with the nature which sets everybody a bit on edge, the different characters with such opposite personalities which are bound to clash at one point or another, everybody's secrets and the various little twists.
I can't wait to read more books from this author.

I was lucky to receive an advance copy of The In-Laws by Laura Wolfe from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. I loved this book with all the suspense and it was for sure a domestic thriller. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to finish it so I could see what was going to happen. This will keep you guessing all the way to the last page. Great book!

I enjoyed this book for the most part. There were parts I found predictable, it also took a super long time to get to the actual death. I found that disappointing but it wasn’t a deal breaker. The ending did surprise me which is always a nice surprise in mystery/thriller/suspenseful books

As a diehard Gone Girl fan this hits close to home especially if you have tough in laws! This kept me guessing until the end and I loved the different setting, placing the dynamics at a different level. FLEW through and enjoyed every second!

Abigail and Pete are engaged to be married. They are from different backgrounds and their parents don’t get on. Hoping to build their real Abigail books a three day hiking holiday for them all. Things begin to go wrong when medication goes missing, someone appears to be following them and someone is found dead. Was it an accident as first thought or not? If not, who in the group is responsible and why? There is plenty of tension and conflict as we realise that Abigail is keeping a secret. This book had me gripped from the start with the prologue. There were several twists and turns and red herrings with a great ending. An entertaining and recommended read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunities to read and review this book.

3.5 out of 5 stars, rounded up
Although this is a slow burn thriller, the way the author drops nuggets of information along the way and the twists and turns that ha[[en within these pages more than make up for it. This was a fun wilderness adventure.
