I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Abigail and Pete are getting married, and what better way to bring together two families who are completely different than a three day backpacking trip designed for teambuilding? What could possibly go wrong? As it turns out…everything.
This book was a great balance of family issues and plot twists that I didn't see coming. I was questioning everyone's motives at multiple points in the book, and even then, I didn't see the ending coming. This was a fun read that I had trouble putting down and enjoyed from start to finish.
A great mystery/thriller by Laura Wolfe! I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters in the book. A brilliant and interesting read.
Thank you to Laura Wolfe and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
The In-Laws is well written. And that’s what gained it 3 stars. The story flows well. However, it is a long read at over 300 pages. And about 250 of them are lead up to the foreseeable twist. This made it an ok read but not mind blowing.
Lots of twists in this book and an ending that was a total surprise. Highly recommended.
Thanks to NeTgalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this ARC
Happy Publication Day! The bride-to-be Abigail arranged a camping trip for three nights adventure for her Dad and Mom, Kristen and John Cates, as well as her fiancé Pete and his parents, Darla and Kenny, before their upcoming wedding. They headed towards Michigan's upper peninsula to their trekking and camping site. She had her Diamond ring on during the trip as she was getting married just three months from now. Liam was their tour guide. Pete was working for Abigail's Dad who was very impressed with Pete's work for him. The first few nights of their trip were not as blast as they thought. As they followed Liam into the dense woods with their professional guide, things started getting creepy and someone started leaving messages at the campsites creating a negative energy threatening them. Secrets and troubling stories about each other's families that were hidden unfolded on this trip. Abigail's dad loses his medication and they lost the bear spray. Was someone stealing their belongings?
I found this book a bit slow though it was a real page-turner and a quick read. And then, One of them is missing and gets killed by accident at the rock cliff as they approach the deep, dark forest with Liam guiding them along a remote trail for another two days. The killing is like in a scene from a horror movie. This made the others worrisome. What would have actually happened? Who could not be trusted on their trip? Abigail has her secrets and intentions that she reveals along the way. The author has kept the reader suspenseful till the end.

This is the first time I have come across a thriller with so many characters and all of them grey. The story starts with Abigail's point of view and as it progresses, we get to read different characters' view points as well.
Upon reading the title, I thought it would be a domestic fiction with a lot of rant about in-laws (that's what the title suggests & I don't read blurbs). I requested for the ARC only because it mentioned thriller. I was absolutely wrong. Even though it is a domestic fiction but a crazy and twisty one.
The writing style is absolutely crisp and engrossing right from the very beginning. The twists keep coming making it a compulsive read. It was just so difficult to put the book down with all the crazy things happening and characters hiding their true colours, revealing little and concealing more. The author certainly knows her craft and has a way with words.
The character development and their back stories were brilliant and simply melded in the story so well. Each incident, every twist just got better and better. Even though there was so much happening, I could never predict what would happen next and we all love a thriller that shocks us and keeps us on the edge.
I am still in awe of the writing style and the plot. I can't stop thinking about the characters and the story.
The In-Laws by Laura Wolfe was another brilliant psychological thriller with lots of twists and turns throughout which made it a great read and hard to out down once I started to read it.
I loved this book and I highly recommend it. Another 5 star read.
Big Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
"The In-Laws" was a good suspense read full of twists and turns. It kept me guessing until the very end. I am a fan of Laura Wolfe's previous work so I knew this would be a good read. Highly recommended for mystery/suspense lovers. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Laura Wolfe is a brilliant storyteller and definitely doesn’t disappoint! I was instantly pulled into this one and can safely say, it doesn’t disappoint.
This is every bit as suspenseful, gripping and unpredictable as I’d hoped. This is unlike any book I’ve read previously and that alone has kept me hooked.
I love how the author is able to transport the reader. It is a real talent. This is definitely a book that will have your heart pounding and pulse racing.
Imagine going on a trip with your parents and in-laws only to find a body….. This is everything I hoped it would be and more! I am a huge fan of this author and this book is a great read.
A definite for the TBR.
When we meet our significant other we always hope and want for our families to get along, because let's face it, it would definitely make for a difficult relationship if both families don't get along and unfortunately that's what happens in this story, both families just don't connect and therefore a camping trip is arranged in hopes that everyone can finally get along.
Instead disaster strikes during the camping trip, secrets are revealed and things will never be the same again.
I raced through this book and couldn't put it down! I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author.
I was hooked right away and the more I read, the more I got drawn into the adventure. There were unexpected twists and turns along the way but the ending was completely unexpected. You won't be disappointed with this book.
A gripping read that had my heart beating out of my chest and my bum on the edge of my seat, Twisty and unpredictable, I couldn't put it down
Wow. This book has so many twists and turns. I hated when I had to put the book down. Abigail has found the man of her dreams. She is engaged to marry Pete, the man her father thinks of as a son. Pete comes from an odd ball family. They are polar opposites of Abigail’s family. Abigail plans an weekend hike/camping trip for them to bond. She has arranged it with the guide service her employer used previously. The group starts out with Liam as their guide. Liam guided the trip Abigail was on with her co-workers. Things start out well but little problems start to pop up. Things like important medicine go missing. Liam accidentally gets most of the food wet. They meet a freaky stranger on the trail. Then we find out the real reason this group is on a bonding excursion. But there are many more secrets to be discovered during the trip and in the months afterwards. The story is told mostly from Abigail’s point of view but also from other points of view. I’m finishing this now so I can go look for other books by Laura Wolfe.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of The In-Laws by Laura Wolfe
I enjoyed this novel, but more the 2nd half, I found the first part just a little unbelievable, it took me a while to get into the story and connect with the characters
This is the first novel by Laura Wolfe that I read, not the last though
Abigail is the main character, she has organized a camping trip with her fiancée and their parents to try and have a closer bond prior to the wedding. Things start off a little rocky and go sideways quickly. There are many twists and turns that happen throughout right till the end. People aren't who they seem to be.
I'd like to read more by this author as I do enjoy a good psychological/mystery/thriller
"The In-Laws" by Laura Wolfe is an entertaining novel that starts off strong and never lets up. I was not expecting to like this novel as much as I did but once I got started, I had trouble putting it down until the very end.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Don’t start this book before bed if you need to wake up in the morning. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put it down, absolutely loved it. The story flowed well, I was connected to the characters and story. Will definitely be reading more from this author. Well done!
To me, this book started out with me thinking I'm not going to like this. It didn't take long for me to be totally engrossed in it. To those thinking of not reading further, I guarantee if you stick with it, it's totally worth it! Wild ride, of crazy characters and trying to figure out which was the craziest. The ending was awesome, it took me surprise. I'm very much looking forward to reading more from this author.
Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and the author for the chance to read this advanced copy for a fair review.
Twisted in all the ways a thriller should be! I enjoy when an author drops bomb shell after another throughout the book and doesn't wait until the very end to give it to us all at once!
Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
An atmospheric read centreing around a family weekend away on a daring hike in the remote wilderness of a National Park with a guide....What could go wrong? Engaged couple Abigail and Pete have decided to take their parents for a camping trip and hike so they can "get to know each other" before their nuptuals. Abigail's parents have high standards and live a luxurious life and Pete even works with Abigail's father, so they adore him!! Pete's family is your average income family with peculiarities and a past history that leaves the rest of the group unsure as to who they can trust on this trip. The first hint to leave this camping idea was a distraught couple at the Visitor's station fighting and not able to get into their vehicle quick enough. The Second hint is a creepy, lurking man... begging for food.
Then their food & medicine disappears and odd messages are left throughout the trail... Not to mention the secrets start getting exposed.
This was an edgy, twisty thriller that kept me guessing with dark disturbing characters that slowly reveal themselves, I was hooked from the start. #laurawolfe #theinlaws #netgalley #tea_sipping_bookworm #goodreads #amazonaustralia #kindle #thestorygraph #litsy #thriller #bookqueen #bookstagram
