Fans of B.A Paris and Fredia McFadden will love this unputdownable domestic thriller of a book! I enjoyed the twist at the end that left me wanting more. I also jut love British authors they are twisted minded and I love seeing the words they have for some things binmen, and sink plug were my favorite inn this book.
Great great read! Suspenseful, thrilling and a big page turner I could not put this down, very well written, you will devour this book
The book is well written and I loved that it's narrated with two perspectives on the same events. It really got off to a good start, with a very interesting and gripping opening and I was thrilled to see how the plot would develop but unfortunately it was quite predictable. I felt like I could guess all the minor plot twists from the start with very few surprising highlights. I still hoped the epilogue would be jaw-dropping but it felt like the author was rushing to the end of the book and just wanted to add a touch of suspense.
The Doctor’s Wife is a domestic thriller about a husband and wife where nothing is as it appears and both people are hiding who they truly are.
Drew is charming. He’s narcissistic. On the outside he is a successful doctor, but at home he is a conniving cheat. He thinks his wife, Fern, is clueless. Does she really have no idea what he’s been up to? As events unfold in this dark story of betrayal we see the lengths a person will go to for revenge.
I felt the story dragged at times, the pace was somewhat slow, though it picked up towards the middle. And the twist- I live for a good twist and this delivered.
Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Daniel Hurst for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This was a total page turner and I really enjoyed reading it. This book follows a couple who moves to a small village in Scotland, but filled with secrets. This book had a lot of twists and turns that kept me turning the page and wanting to keep reading. I loved the flow of this book and I can't wait to read more from this author.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.
This is my first book by this author- wow! A rollercoaster read, suspense, deceit, lies, betrayals..
Drew is the doctor, handsome and charming, he has been having an affair with Alice, he has been so careful, he feels sure his wife Fern would never suspect him of cheating on her.
However Alice has ended their passionate affair. Drew though has concocted a plan to win her back, this involves Fern and him selling up their home and life in Manchester and moving to a small village in Scotland, Aberness. How will Alice feel about him relocating here, in the same village as her and her husband Rory.
Drew thinks he is has been clever, but Fern has a plan of her own. This is a brilliant game of cat and mouse. Two marriages, both with secrets
The story is told by both Drew and Fern in the past and present There are some very clever twists and turns.
A truly wicked read, a fast paced page turner.
Will definitely be reading by Daniel Hurst.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC of The Doctor’s Wife.
I really enjoyed this book with its tale told from two points of view.
Dr Drew and his wife Fern move from Manchester to a small village near Scotland. Fern discovers another couple have recently moved there from Manchester too. Coincidence or something more sinister. As we go through we find out more about the other couple and the real reason they both moved.
Love or revenge?
I raced through it and will be looking for more books by Daniel Hurst to read in future
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC. This was my first book by this author. It was a fun, twisty, fast read. Not too in depth and wordy. Great for a fun and twisty ride.
This was a brilliant book. So well written, and I really enjoyed the fact that it was easy to follow.
A Dr and his wife, he has an affair and they end up moving. Sounds simple? As you get reading, you realise, it isn’t. Nothing ever is, is it?
It’s told from both perspectives, and really gives you, the reader, a chance to delve into the minds of two people, whom you really hope to never meet in person.
I found that I got through this quite quickly, it certainly does its job of capturing your interest. I really did enjoy this one and will definitely be recommending it.
Thank you to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for my arc.
5 ⭐️
I absolutely raced through this! I’ve not read any of Daniel Hurst’s books before, but I definitely will now. I really enjoyed it. I was gripped from the beginning, and each chapter left me wanting more. I loved the alternating narratives between the two main characters - it really quickened the pace of the book, and left me wanting more. It has some super twists and turns, right til the end. Would definitely recommend.
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for advance e-copy of this book to read and review
💫REVIEW💫
Dr Drew and his wife Fern have relocated from Manchester to a small village in Aberdeen at the request of her husband. But is his motive for moving as genuine as he says?
They both have secrets. One is having an affair. One is out for revenge.
The plot, told from dual POV, is simple and straightforward with a few curve balls thrown in to keep the interest flowing. I didn’t care much for Drew’s character to be honest, and having read his thoughts and feelings towards his wife, I couldn’t wait for him to come to a sticky end. Fern came across as naive and simple in the beginning, until I was thrown one of those curve balls, where her deception and game play quickly won me over.
Daniel Hurst is fast becoming my go to author, this is the second book of his I’ve read this past week and I’m already excited for his next book.
Released 31st January 23.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing me with an ARC in return for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC of The Doctor’s Wife. Fern is enjoying her life as the wife of Dr Drew Devlin when she discovers he has had an affair. Fern is determined to make Drew and his liver pay. This book puts the psycho In psychological thriller! The mind games from all the characters were fascinating. I’ve never disliked a character yet rooted for her as much as I did with Fern. She truly deserved an Oscar! The epilogue set up what would be a great sequel!
I really liked this one! This was my first read my Daniel Hurst and I really enjoyed it. I loved following Fern and trying to get into her head. I can’t wait to read more of his work!
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for my ARC!!
*** I received an ARC of #The Doctor’s Wife from #NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
The Doctor’s Wife is written from the point of view of Drew the doctor as well as his wife Fern. Early in the book you will learn the doctor has been keeping a secret (or at least he thinks so) affair.
This story takes you down the twists and turns of deceit and how far people will go to hide just what they know.
The author did a great job of creating the characters. They are well developed and interesting. You can understand just how they feel.
I didn’t like this one very, much. The main character was selfish and very self-centered in his beliefs and ideas. He really didn’t care about anyone. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Love the plot and the premise but here are my suggestions -
Chapter 20:
Drew talks about the medical malpractice where he prescribed sleeping pills to an alcoholic that happened 8 years ago
Chapter 21:
Fern says its 4 years ago
“The room where Drew’s body is being held is cold and characterless, which is funny because it makes me think of my husband’s heart and how it was the same in his final days.” Love this line
Chapter 30: “How is a wife supposed to take living with a cheating husband?” Instead of “Day by day, I guess.” “One day at a time “ sounds better
This book was an enjoyable thriller to read. I enjoyed how the characters are connected and the plot twists were fascinating. Although i predicted some of the twists, it was still an incredible read. I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to receive an ARC of this book.
A “happily married couple” who moves from the city to the countryside- at his request. Drew's intention for the move is anything but pure, and his “clueless” wife, Fern, goes along with his suggestion, finding themselves a beautiful seaside house in a sleepy village. Quickly, the reader finds out Drew’s true intentions for wanting to move to this remote town, and it’s bad news for Fern.
As a newlywed, this book terrified me. I kept questioning how a marriage could get to this point! The amount of infidelity, deception, and vengeance in this domestic thriller was mind-blowing. I enjoyed the dual POV, swapping between Fern and Drew. It quickly became clear that they truly don't know one another. The ending surprised me, and the epilogue nicely wrapped up the book and left the reader with the feeling that the "bad guy" in this book was not as smart as they believed they were and that they might not get away with it.
As a medical professional, I was entirely appalled at Dr. Drew not sending off the bloodwork he drew on a patient – it literally made my jaw drop. Then when I got toward the end of the book, it all made sense.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable read; I enjoyed the twists throughout this book and would recommend it!
*There was a typo at Loc 2830 (86% percent into the book) “I’ll tell him that I have sensed a distance growing between us over these past few months and that, after giving it some serious thought, I have decided that the best thing for us to do is *sperate.*
Daniel Hurst has done it again. A doctor, his wife, and mistress. What could possibly go wrong? A woman scorned never ends well.
I was totally addicted to my last read from Daniel Hurst, and Ive been delighted to discover that 'The Doctor's Wife' is equally gripping.
Fern is married to GP, Drew, and reluctantly agrees when he suggests moving from their Manchester home to a village close to the Scottish border in search of a better work-life balance. Drew thinks that Fern believes this his intention, though his motive has far more to do with following his Mistress in hopes of rekindling the affair! Just how far will Fern go to thwart Drew's plans?! Only one way to find out! Just read this book, it is SO good (just make sure you clear your diary first - it is very hard to put down!!)
I absolutely love how this author omits any extraneous BS to just deliver an awesome story where the pace is bang on point!! Absolutely nothing not to love.
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.
