Not my favourite of Hursts books because it started with the prologue so I guessed what would happen but if you skip that part, the writing is amazing and the book races past you - he's an awesome thriller writer.
A tense and fast paced read that I read in one sitting. Well written with a gripping storyline and well developed characters. Twisty and unpredictable, I couldn't put it down.
For an engrossing page-turner, you can’t go wrong with this authorI loved the epilogue which suggests one part of this couple just might get what he or she (no spoiler!) deserves.
Drew and Fern move to the small village of Arberness to get away from the pressure of city living. But Drew has been having an affair and has followed his lover in order to rekindle their romance. Can he keep the secret from his wife...?
The Doctor's Wife is a psychological thriller set in the north of England.
Fern has given her husband a second chance but he doesn't even know it. She is fully aware of his affair yet is hoping their marriage will survive. He is blissfully ignorant that she knows the truth, believing that he can fool her. Neither of the main characters is particularly pleasant, both being ruthless and devious.
Most of the book is written in the present day but there are some chapters from the past. The first person narrative swaps between Fern and Drew in the first half of the book so we see the secrets they are each keeping from the other. I loved the dual narrative for showing the contrasting perspectives and opinions on the same scenarios.
This is quite a quick read and I couldn't put it down. I was completely swept up in the characters' lives. I did feel that the final twist in the epilogue was perhaps one too far and stretched my credulity, however it was clever.
The Doctor's Wife was a gripping and twisty novel about secrets and lies.
Hands down Bookouture has the BEST mystery/thriller Author’s around. I’ll now be immediately adding Daniel Hurst’s catalogue to my TBR after reading The Doctor’s Wife.
What I liked most about this book was the dual POV and alternating timeline. It allows the reader to have a more immersive reading experience, and helps to show more than flat out tell.
Ironically, what I liked least, I also loved, and that was on how much I disliked the two main characters. They were both so petty and cunning that I enjoyed every minute!
Huge thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
You know it's a good audiobook when you finish the entire thing in 2 days!
Both narrators were excellent and I listened avidly the whole time.
The characters kept me in suspense, I was intrigued by the little references they made and I didn't know who to trust!
I had suspicions over the ending, but it didn't stop my enjoyment. I adore this author's books and this one can easily be added to the recommended list!
Daniel Hurst’s The Doctor's Wife is the story of Fern and her doctor husband Drew. After moving to Arberness from Manchester, Fern hopes that Drew will be willing to start his life over with her by being honest. Told in dual point of view from Fern and Drew, Drew’s secret he has been keeping is revealed. I voluntarily read and gave an honest review of this complimentary copy of this well-written book full of secrets, suspense, and betrayal. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat until the surprising end. Make sure to read the Epilogue, too!
Overall, I enjoyed this novel, but the pacing was a bit of an issue for me throughout. I appreciated that the narrative was anchored by its sense of place by the ocean, but both main characters felt like more like caricatures than fully developed people, and the last third through the conclusion felt hurried especially with the addition of the epilogue.
I really enjoyed this book. Daniel Hurst is a new author for me but I have really enjoyed all that I have read so far. He really gave me a spin on this one.
Note: I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed this book and generally found myself drawn in. It was an easy read and I was able to devour the whole thing pretty quickly. Definitely didnt follow the standard formula for many of the thrillers around these days and I appreciated that. Several twists and turns throughout the book, many of which surprised me and a few of which did not. I did feel the book was a bit heavy on the foreshadowing. Not that it revealed anything, but it was as if the author was continuously reminding the reader something bad will happen, which I found unnecessary if not a bit annoying. As with many thrillers there is definitely an element of needing to suspend reality to believe it could really happen but I am not bothered by that.
An easy book to read and it was quite interesting. Not a very plausible plot however but it passed on an hour or two

Daniel Hurst novels are can't miss for me, and this was certainly no exception! I devoured this thriller and cant wait to read his next one.
Yet another fantastic book by Daniel Hurst, who is one of my favourite authors.
Fast paced and a great plot which kept me hooked throughout. I was sad to finish this book as I was enjoying it so much.
Can't wait for the next one!
Daniel Hurst never disappoints. I recently found his books and must say he is in my top 10 favorites. Just when you think you’ve figured it out… you haven’t. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this talented authors book. Kudos, Mr. Hurst.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of The Doctor's Wife by Daniel Hurst
This was a good psychological thriller with more than one twist and unexpected turn of events. I like the authors writing style, how the characters are presented, the storyline was well thought out and easy to follow
Drew is a doctor, married to Fern, although he is being unfaithful and having with Alice. Alice calls things off and she and her husband move away, but Drew can't stand the separation and moves himself and his wife to their new town as well. However Fern has others ideas and plans her revenge
This is a first read for my by Daniel Hurst and will happily read more!
I love this author, and I did like the book, though I struggled with some parts of the writing style. Both narrative characters liked to state something and follow up with "this is because..." and then an explanation, and it felt a bit unnatural. Otherwise it was ok.
A pulls you in from the start fast-paced book, lots of twists that I didnt see coming but outside of the twists exactly what I expected. Which is NOT a criticism at all!! A great story and one that I would definitely recommend .
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read an ARC from a great author
I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. When I started the book and it began about infidelity, I almost didn't even go further because I just was not interested. But I continued and I ended up enjoying the storyline. The book is told in parts by Fern and her husband Drew). I really enjoyed the twist at the end.
I had high expectations from this based on the title and synopsis but unfortunately it fell flat for me. I ended up not finishing this as I found it way too slow
This was an ok thriller. Nothing mind-blowing or what we've never heard before. But fun. Entertaining.
In many ways, The Doctor's Wife was exactly what I expected it to be from the title and the cover, and that's always a good thing. It was easy to get through in one sitting, and the alternating perspectives added a nice rhythm to it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of The Doctor’s Wife by Daniel Hurst in exchange for an honest review. Full review on my book blog soon...
