An enjoyable read though slightly predictable as to was going on! Thank you to Netgalley & Daniel Hurst for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review!
I've read few books by Hurst this one was hood but not like his others. I guess the ending 20% into the book. While the story was good the twist was disappointing. I would give it 3.5 our of 5 stars

Oh, this had a very intriguing thread running through it. Both main characters are not likable and full of themselves, thinking they have something over the other. Little do they realize what will happen when they act on their schemes. The end isn't the end...as we are left with more.
Thanks so much to @bookouture and @danielhurstbooks for the gifted e-arc of this book and for having me as part of this tour!
This was my first Daniel Hurst book, and it won't be my last because I really enjoyed this book as well as his writing style!
This was a quick read with lots of great twists! I liked that we got POVs from both Drew and Fern, and I loved how Drew was so into himself that he totally underestimated Fern and how manipulative she could be! If you are a fan of revenge type thrillers, you need to read this one!
Grabbed me in immediately and had me hooked! I listened in one day! Twisted until the end!
Thank you, Daniel Hurst, Bookouture Audio, Bookouture, & Netgalley for my copy! All opinions are my own.
An incredibly fast-paced book, impossible to put down. Gripping right from the start with lots of twists. A great story and one that I would definitely recommend .
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read an ARC from a great author
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the review copy!
“The Doctor's Wife” by Daniel Hurst is a very interesting thriller. This is a book of plot twists and lots of interesting twists and turns. You never know what is about to happen. Furthermore, the story holds a lot of suspense throughout the book.
I was not fully caught by the story at first, but towards the end, I was caught by a surprise. This is surely an interesting story. I will therefore tell you to be patient with the story, since it develops into an even more suspenseful story through the pages.
I ended up listening to most of the book as an audiobook, and then I read the rest. I would actually say that I enjoyed reading it by myself more than listening to it.
The Doctor's Wife by Daniel Hurst is a fantastic thriller that will have you guessing which person is the "bad guy" to the very end.
The story revolves around a married couple, Fern and Drew, and the chapters alternate being told from each of their perspectives. This given insight into each of their backstories and also allows us to see how each of them are reacting and contributing to the circumstances befalling them. I enjoyed this book immensely and would highly recommend to anyone who loves a good edge-of-your-seat thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to review this book.
I have read Daniel Hurst books previously and thoroughly enjoyed them.
However, this one did not hold my attention. I had figured out the plot less than halfway in. I found myself getting bored and resorted to skimming sentences. There is way too much verbose.
The storyline is good but the plot is too flimsy. The motive has been written many times before and the detectives coming across as too native to consider the weak evidence.
Allowing the reading to know the killer halfway through gives it a different twist but I had already worked out the relationship between Rory and Fern by the time Daniel Hurst took us back six months.
Not his best work and obviously left open for a sequel.
This book gripped me from the start with lots of twists. Some particularly evil characters made it a great story and one that I would definitely recommend .
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read an ARC from a great author
Sorry but I did not enjoy this book.
I did not enjoy the dual POV on cheating husband and psychotic wife.
I did not enjoy the plot.
I also have more faith in the police department in the UK.
Not for me...
Keywords for this book: fast read, bingeable, one sitting, domestic noir, suspense, exciting, revenge, marriage, cheating.
My second book by Daniel Hurst and I enjoyed it way more than the fist one I read (The New Friends). While that book was lacking action, this one did have a lot more as well as some fun twists.
The writing is still just as bingeable, the story flows well and reads very fast so this can be read in one-sitting (which I really enjoy in thrillers). I wouldn't exactly call it a psych thriller, it's more like domestic suspense, but I can tell the author has grown a ton already since the last book I read.
I do wish there was a bit more tension/fear in the first 4/5 of the book. The resolution & ending were fun and satisfying but the first bit was a bit boring. I wish the author hadn't stretched out the first bits of the story as much as the conclusion was quite exciting and I would've loved to see more of that throughout this book.
I will definitely be reading Daniel Hurst again. I have a bit of an obsession with reading domestic noir in one sitting and his books fit that bill very well! I also like that his works are set in the UK as it's quite a nice change to all the US setting thrillers.
I received a copy to review from NetGalley.
The Doctor's Wife is one of those books that you won't be able to put down once you start it. Prepare yourself for that. Drew Devlin is a doctor who lives in Manchester with his wife, Fern. Drew is well respected and likes his job. He keeps long hours and is keeping a big secret from his wife. Drew comes home one day and seems distraught. He's been in a bad mood for awhile and he's been drinking too much on the weekends. Fern notices, but doesn't say too much.
Drew decides he wants to move to a small village where his hours will be more regulated and he'll have fewer patients. Fern is shocked as they've been happy in Manchester. Fern has always been a city girl and doesn't want to go to the country. Drew convinces her it'll be great for them and they end up finding a house by the beach and put their Manchester house on the market. The thing is Drew isn't moving for the reasons he gave. He's moving because of his secret and he knows that Fern doesn't suspect anything.....or does she? Fern is smarter than Drew thinks she is and has known about his secret for awhile. Will Fern forgive Drew and be able to stay married to him? What will Drew do when he finds out Fern knows his secret?
The book opens with a body on the beach. Someone has been murdered. The story then backtracks to what happened leading up to the murder. Who will be found guilty? Who was murdered? What will become of Drew and Fern? The Doctor's Wife does a fantastic job of keeping you hooked. There are a few twists along the way that you won't see coming. The ending of the book is fantastic and will keep you thinking. I loved this book and gave it a 4 star rating. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of The Doctor's Wife in exchange for a fair review. #TheDoctorsWife
the story line is great. the truth surrounding the death was kind of cliche, but great nonetheless. the crime and investigation part was slightly immature in my opinion, but that could be the years-long withdrawal from my hours of bones and criminal minds speaking.
i was constantly appalled by Drew’s actions and I struggled to justify Fern’s actions despite trying to walk in her shoes—i thought making him lose everything career-wise would be a wiser choice.
but overall, this is a quick and easy read for me. it adequately showed the emotions and internal struggles, and i was shocked at the revelation of the partnership, because it wasn’t hinted AT ALL throughout the book.
Oh my gosh this was my first book by this author and won’t be my last! It was oddly satisfying seeing the wife get revenge lol
3.5 stars
None of the characters were particularly likeable, except maybe Rory, but I love that Fern wasn't some naïve, weak wife. She had plans of her own! I also loved the ending!
The title is just slightly misleading, as I don't think the fact that Drew was a doctor had THAT much to do with the story, really, but it didn't take anything away from the story either. (He probably could have had almost any job and the story wouldn't have changed much.)
Overall, another great novel by Daniel Hurst!
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review this arc honestly.
This book was gripping from the start and was hard to put down. The story was straightforward with very minimal timeline jumps around, which I appreciate. The characters were ok but I don’t feel very connected to either of them. But overall I enjoyed this quick read.
An excellent thriller with plenty of twists to keep you guessing. I read this one as fast as I could and didn't stop until I was done
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Fern is married to Drew, a doctor. Drew moves them from Manchester to a small town near Scotland and Fern reluctantly agrees to move even though she loves the city. Even though Drew seems to be an upstanding physician, his motives for moving are not on the up and up.
This was my first book from this author and overall, I enjoyed it. It was a quick read and didn't get bogged down in unnecessary detail. I thought I had sniffed out what I was going on, and I had to an extent, but there was still more to the story. I am sure I will read more from this author.
The Doctor's Wife by Daniel Hurst Narrated by Sarah Durham, and David Wayman was another excellent book Especially as its started with a bang and then had me me gripped from the beginning till the very end! This book had great twists and turns throughout that both narrators were excellent and made this book another 5 star read.
I highly recommend this book. I loved it x
Big Thank you to Bookouture Audio, Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC.
