3.5/5. I enjoyed reading this one, but the beginning of it was quite cheesy at the start. About a 3rd of the way in it started to get a better with some deeper concepts and story lines and I feel in love with Kitty and Miles. It definitely felt like the book equivalent of a Hallmark movie, which I do enjoy.
Thank you for the eARC!

Thank you so much to Forever and Netgalley for an arc of A Love Catastrophe by Helena Hunting.
I am such a fan of Helena Huntings writing and she is an auto read author for me. I loved Kitty and Miles and this story does tend to go towards the quirky / cute side of romance with some steam. There was incredible heaviness in this novel which was very unexpected for me and this definitely impacted my enjoyment of reading this book. Some content warnings or mention of these topics would have been appreciated - I am surprised there is no mention of them in the synopsis. , I’ll leave a content/trigger warning below for those wishing to avoid spoilers, since the purposeful absence of these topics even in the synopsis seems purposeful. The heavy topics are discussed throughout the entire novel, and while I recognized these are my own triggers, I feel like they do impact a large audience.
That being said, I did enjoy the characters in the novel and Huntings writing. I almost dnf’d the novel when these topics came up multiple times but continued through based on my past experiences with her works.
Content: Past death of a child/sibling (bike accident being hit by a car) discussed multiple times, and another character finding their parent had died while they were a child , parent losing memories and having dementia, hospital stays.. severe allergic reaction leading to hospitalization

😻 REVIEW: A Love Catastrophe 😻
⭐⭐⭐
SUMMARY: Even though Kitty Hart loves her career as a professional cat sitter/social media influencer, she feels stuck. She’s still living in her childhood home, watching the same shows and reliving the same routines she has for the past 10 years. Enter Miles Thorn: A (gasp!) dog person who hires Kitty to help manage his mom’s hairless cat when she goes into memory care.
I was excited to read A Love Catastrophe because I’ve read and loved some of Helena Hunting’s other books, particularly Kiss My Cupcake, which was a legitimately funny enemies to lovers romcom. This book was heavier—both characters had experienced significant loss—but also wackier due to slapstick-style pratfalls and cat-related humor.
I found this book to be a little kooky for my taste (there were A LOT of cat-tastic puns), but if PAW-SOME is your vibe, then this is the book for you.
Read it if you like:

This sadly was not for me. It was such a unusual book. I usually look forward to this Helena Hunting's writing. . As always, her writing is very bingeable, but this one just did not execute. I appreciate what she was trying to do and add emotion and depth to this rom com, but ehhh. I just wanted more romance.

As a cat lover I really enjoyed this book and seeing someone on page love cats as much as I do. I enjoyed the romance between Kitty and Miles. It was also amazing to see them both deal with loss of a family member along with that internalized guilt attached to these losses. I also really liked how Miles supported Kitty and her goals and dreams at the end. Overall a super fun quick read.

I love Helena Huntings books! It was a perfect, light read for the summertime! I'll be anxiously waiting for her next new release!

Typical cutesy, easy read rom com. Kitty is the generic nerdy and ditsy but super hot girl. And miles is the nerdy, math hot guy. Neither of them really know what they have.
After a messy, not so meet cute, their lives fall into a pattern as kitty helps miles care for his mothers cat. They bond over their lives and loves and come together when they each need someone the most.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
3 stars
This was a pretty straight-forward story about normal people living normal lives. It was easy and there is nothing wrong with that. However, there wasn't a lot on the line with the characters in this story and as such, this novel might just become forgettable.
For those who want a sweet story with a side order of cats and social influencing, here's your next read!

As a fellow cat owner and lover, there were parts of this book that had me laughing out loud and relating to both the FMC & MMC. This was a very fun and overall, lighthearted, grumpy vs sunshine romance. It does deal with some serious topics though too such as childhood trauma, loss of a parent, and alzheimer's. But if you love romance, cats and just animals in general, you'll enjoy this read.

The Love Catastrophe is a rom-com perfect for cat lovers. The storyline of the pets is integrated into seemingly every chapter of the book, so be aware. Kitty, the cat whisperer, meets Miles, and their awkwardness leads to some funny situations. While most of the book was pretty G rated, about 60% in it got quite spicy. This is a very light, summery read. I cannot stress enough that there is a lot of cat talk and cat humor, which can alienate non-cat-loving readers.

Kitty has built a social media following as Kitty Whisperer, sharing expertise on all things cats. When Miles needs someone to look after his mom’s cat he hires Kitty and after a rocky first impression sparks start to fly.
This one was a cute grumpy sunshine romance with just enough steam to keep me interested. I did feel like some of the plot points were rushed to wrap up at the end, but overall an enjoyable read. Thanks Netgalley and Forever for the egalley in exchange for my honest review.

This was a cute story with sums heavier elements to it. The cats definitely brought joy and Kruger to this story. It was a fun read.

A Love Catastrophe was an adorable rom-com, perfect for a cat lover. Helena Hunting shows her writing prowess by using the scope of rom-com to titillate and make her readers laugh, but there is always something deeper in her stories. In A Love Catastrophe, the way we process grief and our need to embrace change since it's the one constant in life undergird her story's romance. So while Miles is trying to reconcile his mother's aging and progression into dementia, he needs Kitty to remind him of what he can control. As we laugh, we also cry with this story, and it showcases the magic of Helena Hunting and her storytelling.

Thank you @readforeverpub for the complimentary ebook. A Love Catastrophe is one of those books that reminds me why contemporary romance (romcom) is my favorite genre to read. It's lighthearted and funny, but also deals with some heavier topics, and yet has some steam and lots of relationship building. Kitty & Miles start off annoyed with each other but then they connect over shared grief and realize they have more in common than they thought.
This book is definitely a cat lover's book. I'll be honest, I'm more of a dog person and non-shedding dogs specifically. The couple times where the MC mentioned having to have lids on coffee cups to avoid drinking cat hair just proved to me that I am not the type of person who's willing to deal with car hair. Kitty does a great job of understanding that not everyone loves cats and she shows equal amounts of love to Miles' dog.
What I love about this book is that the 3rd act conflict isn't between Kitty and Miles. It's a major moment for Kitty and Miles gets involved, but there's no breakup right before the HEA ending. This was a fun read to start off July.
CW: grief, parent with dementia

I cannot get enough of Helena Hunting’s books! I devour everything that she writes as soon as I get my hands on it. This story did not disappoint. Miles is trying to make an impact at work so his contract will be renewed when his mother gets sick. He needs to find someone to help with her prized cat. He has seen Kitty’s social media and everyone raves about her. She is known as the Kitty Whisperer. Their first meeting is a disaster. As they find their way around each other, they can no longer deny their attraction. These two are so awkward that it is adorable. Their interactions are hilarious. I really enjoyed this story.

Helena Hunting does it again! A Love Catastrophe was a fabulous feel good rom com. Kitty and Miles couldn't be more different from each other, however the strangest situations manage to bring them together. The best part is, you don't have to love cats to thoroughly enjoy this book.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book from the very first page.

Thank you to the publisher for providing me with an eARC to read and review.
CWs: death of a parent (historical, minor details, heart attack), death of a child/sibling (historical, minor details), dementia, allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
I really enjoyed this one. The story was funny, sweet, sad at times, and full of love.
I really liked both Miles and Kitty’s characters. I thought they were both relatable, well written, and well-rounded characters. Their relationship progressed really well and I enjoyed watching them go from somewhat enemies to friends to more. I thought the pacing of the story worked really well for the relationship between Miles and Kitty. The writing style also worked really well for the characters and there were so many moments during this book that had me laughing out loud. The awkwardness between Miles and Kitty was hilarious.
I really liked the idea of a cat sitter, and I thought Kitty’s relationship with four-legged friends was super sweet. I like seeing the different cats that she interacted with and Prince Francis was absolutely adorable. His personality absolutely came through, and I thought it was so funny to have this cat be such a strong supporting character in the story.
While I loved the lighthearted nature of this book. I also appreciated the heavier topics that it handled, including the death of Miles’ brother when he was a child and the death of Kitty’s father, when she was younger. The book also touches on dementia. Miles’ mother is diagnosed with dementia, and she’s in and out of the hospital and into a care facility during the book. I thought the conversations about the difficulty of having to deal with these topics was handled with care by the author. You could really relate to the emotional struggles that the characters were going through.

This book was one of my favorites that I’ve ready recently. I loved the cat theme and I could feel the slow chemistry building between the two main characters. The plot kept me engaged throughout and I was able to read this book in one or two sittings.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy to honestly review.

This book was adorable! I loved everything about it! Kitty is so kind, strong, and independent. Miles is misunderstood and struggling with complex feelings, but so easy to love when it comes to how he treats Kitty. I also really appreciated that the third-act drama wasn't related to their relationship. It was an issue that truly happens all the time in the world we live in currently. I found myself eager to read more of this book whenever I couldn’t due to work or whatnot. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves cats and romcoms!
