A Love Catastrophe by Helena Hunting is an opposites-attract romance, with just a dash of mildly spicy bits. Kitty aka. social media phenom “the Kitty Whisperer” gets an urgent call from dog-lover Miles when his mother is hospitalized, leaving her naughty hairless cat Prince Francis in his care. Their first meeting doesn’t go well, ultimately resulting in Miles tackling Kitty when he misunderstands her motives. With time, the two ultimately find they have more in common than they initially thought. I found Miles’ job working with a hockey team using statistics and the family backstories interesting. The spicy bits were a tad cheesy at times, along with the cat sayings used regularly by Kitty. The relationships that Kitty and Miles have with their families were full of honest moments as each family member reveals how they have let the past ultimately hold them back. Prince Francis was definitely the standout character in this book (he can request treats and walks on a leash for starters). This book would definitely appeal to cat-lovers in search of a cute romance without too much spice. A perfect summer read. Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It was very easy to get lost in this sweet, quick and, at times, heart rending story.
While it does deal with heavier topics like a loved one with dementia and forever battling the scars left by grief, every topic is handled with care and written beautifully.
The connection between the main characters was enjoyable to read and I loved the side characters. So much so that I’m secretly hoping they’ll get their own books one day.
Helena Hunting fans will love this addition to their collections.

Absolutely another amazing romcom by the author! I always love reading their stories they always make me smile no matter how my life is going. It’s a must read.

I'm a cat person but there is feline overload in this story - Kitty (!!!) works with cats as the self-dubbed Cat Whisperer, dresses in cat patterns, drives a cat-mobile, never came up with a cat pun she didn't use (she actually says "Bless mew!" when someone sneezes) and has a best friend named Kat (!!!) who... wait for it!... runs a cat cafe. Add in the numerous descriptions of cat excrement, litter scooping, hairballs etc. and, well, Cat-astrophe is right.
Overall, I was confused about what this book wanted to be. Most of the time, Kitty reads like a YA heroine ("Why be beige when you can be calico?" she asks) but then there's a super steamy scene that I thought would set the tone for the rest. Nope. Every other hook up was closed door with a double bolt lock, and Kitty calls her clitoris as a "bingo button" and describes sex to Miles - HER LOVER! - as "I've hugged your penis with my vagina" which sounds like how an anatomically-exact grandma might explain intercourse to a curious toddler. I didn't see any chemistry between Kitty and Miles so his insta-attraction to her made no sense, and when a social media brouhaha erupts over Kitty being mistakenly accused of abusing a dog, I paw-sitively wanted it to be over.

Thanks to Forever and NetGalley for the copy to review.

A cute easy light(mostly) read. Miles needs a cat sitter for his moms cat and Kitty us just that person. Their first meeting did not go well. They particularly didn’t like each other, but the heat was real. They both have a lot going on in their lives and yet as they get to know each other, things change. It’s an easy sweet will they, won’t they road to romance with some real world tough and emotional issues involved. If half stars available would have given 3.5.

I'm sad to say that A Love Catastrophe was underwhelming. I didn't find the book to have much of a plot and the romance between Kitty and Miles was very low stakes. The thing I enjoyed the most was Prince Francis and his cat antics. How can you not enjoy that hairless gremlin? I found the romance took a backseat story to the forgiveness that Miles and Kitty had to give themselves to loss they both suffered previously in their lives. It's their personal loss that brought them together and their shared understanding, in my opinion, along with mutual attraction.
I have enjoyed Helena Hunting's novels in the past, but this one just didn't quite hit the mark. It's not the worst, but it's one that I will forget among more memorable romance novels.

I wasn't obsessed with this book like I wanted to be but as a certified cat lady I did love those elements. It was a little too corny for me at times and some of the dialogue just didn't do it for me but overall I appreciate the fun the author was trying to have here.

While this book has a good idea for a story--cat woman meets hockey man, it just seems to fall flat. The story takes a long time to go anywhere and (it could be my age) the sex slang just was too too much. The characters were quite engaging if they weren't so weighted down by the plodding action. I did like the idea of using a sphinx cat, which allows the reader to create funny pictures in his/her head, but if he is the most fascinating character, I believe the book is missing something.

This is a quick romance read that also has some deeper topics- grief & loss of a parent, loss of a young sibling, parent with dementia. There's also light moments with all the cats, a dog, and steamy scenes. I feel like if you're a cat lover, you'll appreciate this one more.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC publication for an honest review.
This was a cute romance with a touch of deeper issues (grief, parent with dementia...) This is a opposites attract premise (Kitty-a cat lover/Miss Sunshine, Miles-grumpy dog lover) who obviously overcome their obstacles. There are a lot of rom-com and super saccharine moments (almost too sweet!) but still enjoyable if you are looking for a low angst, sweet (with some spice) romance. The video issue at the end was a little much for me, but overall, it was a pleasant read.

Omg! This was paw-tastic!
I'm not a cat lover (definitely dog lover here), but i thought this book was so cute!
Miles is in need of someone to watch his mothers cat while he's away at the hockey away games (he’s an analyst) and his mother in in the hospital. He finds Kitty the Kitty Whisperer and reaches out. He is so confused about her, but she seems to really love cats. She helps him out with his mother’s cat, Prince Francis, since she has dementia and will need to go to an assisted living home. Their first meeting though was hilarious, and I got a kick out of how both characters stick their feet in their mouths! Eventually, they start to develop feelings for each other and are there for each other during their own personal histories that are rearing up – which is ironically very similar as they both have lost someone close.
Although, things start to go downhill when Kitty has an accident while walking Prince Francis and Miles’ dog Wilfred which gets caught on video and cut to make it look like she is an animal abuser. Her business starts tanking and people become very vindictive to her. Thankfully Miles is to the rescue and reaches out to a A-list actress who loves Kitty’s site and helps clear her name! whew!
Loved the ending – so sweet! This book definitely has ALL the feels, and I loved the characters so much!

I tried, but this one went a little too far with the whole cat-lady thing - this was cringe and NOT sexy. I love HH & will read anything she writes, but this was a miss for me.

I expected A Love Catastrophe to be cheesy, so I was all in for the first 65%. The romance was intriguing, Kitty was a fun fmc, and the plot was interesting. However, the first conflict was resolved at around the 65% mark, and then the rest felt like a different book. The mmc went from being a love interest to a sure thing and faded into the background. The second conflict was sooooo dumb and I felt really bad for the fmc, but the conflict was so ridiculous that I knew it would be resolved. I was just pretty bored by the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an e-arc in exchange for my honest review!

This was delightful! Funny and sexy. Also lots of cathartic sorrow. Seriously, have some tissues near. Kitty and Miles are adorable. I love how well their pasts and present fit together. There is a third act problem to solve but it’s not about their relationship which is a relief. Recommend for romance and animal lovers. Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC

It absolutely pains me to say that this book just wasn’t for me. Hunting is an all time fave author of mine, but unfortunately this book was a bit of a catastrophe for me. I tried my hardest, but by about 25% I decided to DNF. A bit too punny, mixed with the heavy stuff. You know I’ll be back for more HH in the future!

First and foremost anyone reading this needs to know that I love Helena Hunting - she is one of my favorite authors and this book is very much on brand for her! It's the definition of a quirky, slightly ridiculous romcom that is also incredibly heartwarming. This book is FILLED with all things cats - the main character, Kitty, runs a cat-sitting business, drives a cat-themed car, and makes cat jokes all day long. The star of the show is a cat we meet early on - Prince Francis, a sphynx cat with attitude. And then we have grumpy Miles to Kitty's sunshine counterpart. I loved both of them so much and was rooting for them early on. This book will make you smile and has next to no angst, which was incredibly welcome in my recent reads! I definitely recommend this book, but I do know it's not for everyone.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy. All opinions are my own.

Rating: 3.5 ⭐️
A Love Catastrophe was a fairly enjoyable read. While, there were some amusing and entertaining aspects I was just expecting a little bit more from the romance and story.
It’s dual POVs of the main characters, Kitty Hart and Miles Thorn, and there are some great tropes like opposites attract, close proximity and a friends to lovers romance.
The overall premise was a bit more heavier than I was expecting, as it dealt with caring for a parent with early onset Alzheimer’s and moving on from the death of a loved one. While the story does have a lot of comedic and laugh out loud moments, there were quite a few somber moments and conversations. The overall writing and story development was pretty good though. The story also revolves around cats and caring for one, which I absolutely loved. So if you are a cat lover, this book is perfect for you.
The main characters were interesting. They each had their moments and journeys of growth however, their character development felt a bit rushed. There were also a few aspects that felt quite underdeveloped, like Miles’ relationship with his mother.
The relationship between Kitty and Miles was cute but I personally never felt that spark between them. While, there was an insta-attraction/lust between them, their romance felt a bit forced. They did have some good banter and spice though.
There was no third act conflict, which I appreciated but the ending did feel a bit rushed. The epilogue was really sweet though. Overall, just a decent and quick read.

A bit of a different one, But a rom com is usually a safe vet for me. Awkward moments, which me being me, I always appreciate these. Real feelings.
Overall this one was a win

I decided to DNF at 10%. If you are not a cat person, then I would not recommend reading this. Right away the FMC is a bit cringe with the way she talks. When these two finally get together and some of the stuff Miles said right away gave me the ick. Not enjoying the main characters is a deal breaker for me, I may try to give this another shot eventually. But I unfortunately just couldn’t get into this one nor did I like the main characters.

I received this ARC thanks to Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I really love books that involve animals. I really enjoyed the first half of A Love Catastrophe, but around page 152, the book started to lag. I finished it and enjoyed the rest of the book. It was just a little dull.
I did appreciate the warnings at the beginning of the book, I found the book to be fairly sweet and entertaining, but my parents or another loved one had dementia I would likely not enjoy it as much
