This book was such a fun read and I really enjoy a good romcom. Grumpy vs sunshine, opposites attract do make a book better to me! Helena Hunting really wrote a great book and I need to read more books from her!

One Liner: Okayish

Kitty Hart loves all things cat and works as a kitty whisperer, training unruly cats and caring for them. She is determined to prove that cats can be trained.
Miles Thorn is a dog person and pretty much hates cats. However, he has to take care of his mother’s cat when she’s at the hospital. His new job is just as stressful. Not knowing what to do, Miles hires Kitty to care for Prince Francis (the cat).
Kitty and Miles start on the wrong foot but soon realize they have a lot in common. However, they need to deal with a few issues before claiming the HEA.
The story comes from the first-person POV of Miles and Katty.

My Thoughts:
I like cats and lighthearted reads, so this book seemed a great choice. Also, it’s not common to have the MC take care of cats as a profession.
While I love cats and humor, I also prefer things to not go overboard. Kitty Hart is a cat whisperer. Yep, good. She wears leopard and cheetah prints. Well, fine. She uses weird language and terms. Erm… maybe not. The cat puns get a bit too much. I mean, she can speak normal language even though she loves cats.
Despite the weird stuff, the book deals with important topics like losing a parent/ sibling, dementia, living in the past, etc. Some of it is well done. These discussions are the best parts of the book.
I like awkward characters. They make stories more endearing. However, the MCs don’t really make things cute here. Some of it is, but most of it is not. But yeah, I do like that both have eyeglasses.
Guess my issue is more with the FMC. She calls herself socially inept. Sure, she is missing a few filters, but that seems to be the case only with the MMC. Her interactions with others are quite decent, so her saying silly things felt more artificial/ forced than an integral part of her characterization.
She is also a social media influencer, and this didn’t seem like a major deal. I was glad that we don’t all get influencer thingy. Then, for the conflict in the last section, we have exclusively social media stuff and the toxicity that comes with it. If this was the plan, I’d have preferred more references to the FMC actively posting on SM instead of others commenting about it.
The book starts with Miles’ first-person POV. I admit it took me time to get used to his voice. Though I knew it was the POV of a male, I kept imagining the voice as that of a female. The tone just didn’t sound like a man. Throughout the book, I kept checking the chapter heads to make sure whose POV I was reading.
Of course, I’m relieved there are no third-act breakups, misunderstandings, and dramatic reunions. There’s an epilogue too, which ties up the loose ends.

To summarize, A Love Catastrophe is a lighthearted romcom that deals with some serious topics. Check it out if you are willing to ignore the cat puns and some strange language. I heard good things about the author’s works (this is my first), so maybe this is an odd one out.
Thank you, NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing/Forever, for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

Cat, dog and hockey lovers you are in for a treat with this book.

A Love Catastrophe is about a cat sitter and a dog lover trying to find a common ground after a ‘disastrous’ first encounter.

Humorous as the book goes along because the FMC, ironically named Kitty, is unfiltered as they come. She blurts it before her brain can process it. She is loving and sacrificing and in my opinion is an old soul trapped in a 21st Century body.

Authors have the freedom to totally create the characters they want. After all, books are a form of escapism. The author can be forgiven for making an early 1900 Kitty in the 21st Century.

I love that this book handled social media blacklash. The blacklash faced by Kitty goes to show that people should know that there are humans behind influencer accounts and how we should not jump on the bandwagon of half-truth.

I love how Kitty and Miles eased from a professional relationship to a personal one. I didn’t even realize they were in a relationship as there was no drama to it.

I love how both Kitty and Miles were able to move on from their childhood trauma together and forgiving themselves as they were not to blame.

The star of the book has to be Prince Francis. He is a regal as they come.

This took more than a minute and a half to finish. Simply because it started right, fell flat at some point and then picked up again.

The funniest thing I’ve read in a long time. Kitty operates her own business as a cat whisperer, training and caring for cats. Her services are needed for Miles’ mother, she can’t bring her cat to the hospital and Miles lives too far for everyday visits. It’s pretty obvious there will be humor involved if you have pets, but it’s Kitty’s lack of filter that’s refreshing and comical. They bond over serious topics, and take the usual path all leading couples take. Most romance books are predictable, this one too, however it’s the animals and other characters that bring the entertainment and realistic side to their story. I was able to enjoy an early copy and leave my honest review.

Thank you to netgalley for my advanced readers copy of this book!

I really enjoyed this quick read that so obviously displays Helena’s love of kitties (and romance stories, obviously!). Miles and Kitty were great and I was thoroughly entertained by the dynamic between the two of them and all the animals they care for. This was a lot of fun!!

I can’t wait to see what Helena writes next! Another great rom-com (?) down!

This was a fun cat pun filled rom com. It was my not my favorite by Hunting, but it was still enjoyable. I listened to the audiobook and loved the narration by Erin Mallon and Joe Arden. Kitty often got herself into some ridiculous situations that were often entertaining. I enjoyed the enemies to lovers vibe that Miles and Kitty had although it transitioned pretty quickly to more than that. I also enjoyed learning about Miles’ job and how it supported the team. Overall it was a fun read and I look forward to what Hunting published next!

This book was cute. Not one of those OMG I can't stop reading rom-coms, but it was fun. I enjoyed the characters, their relationship, their stories and challenges. The animals throughout the book only added to the fun. It was just a happy story, even though there were sad and difficult parts. It was hard to not smile while reading it. A great feel good book - perfect for a beach or pool read!

Miles Thorn has been taking care of his mother's beloved cat, Prince Francis, while she's in the hospital, but now that he's been asked to accompany the NHL team for which he works on an upcoming road trip, he's going to need some help. When he finds an online ad for the Kitty Whisperer, a cat sitting service owned by Kitty Hart, it seems like the answer to his prayers. Surprising them both, their awkward first meeting leads to a genuine friendship with the possibility of more, but they'll have to vanquish the ghosts of their pasts before they can build a lasting love.

I loved how adorably awkward Kitty and Miles sometimes were, as well as how strongly they supported each other no matter the challenges they faced. Even though they were opposites in a lot of ways, their personalities complemented each other perfectly, and they'd also had similar experiences in the past that allowed them to empathize with what the other had been through. They made a super cute couple and I was rooting from them from the start.

I'd recommend this charming story for all contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans and look forward to whatever Hunting writes next.

A Love Catastrophe was a fine read. There was a uniqueness to the story that I appreciated. Miles and Kitty were so cute and quirky and I loved that. They were more alike than they each thought so seeing these two get to know each other better and truly spent time together was wonderful. I enjoyed the pace of their romance, the foundation of a friendship leading to more. There was also more to these two with sadness that they both have experienced. They were able to form a bond with that connection and rely on each other. It seemed that Miles and Kitty were what the other needed. Miles and Kitty were a charming duo. I did enjoy the supporting characters-they were pleasant. A fair mix of funny and serious. Overall, this was a just a nice story.

A LOVE CATASTROPHE by Helena Hunting is a contemporary, adult, stand alone, romance story line focusing on ‘Kitty Whisperer’ Kitty Hart, and thirty year old NHL team analyst Miles Thorn.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Kitty and Miles) A LOVE CATASTROPHE follows the building relationship between ‘Kitty Whisperer’ Kitty Hart, and thirty year old NHL team analyst Miles Thorn. Miles Thorn’s mother is struggling with dementia, and Miles suspects she will soon be going into a home but his mother’s cat Prince Francis needs looking after, and Miles hires social media phenom ‘Kitty Whisperer’ to cat-sit PF while his mother is away. Miles doesn’t do cats, is always on the road with the team, but something about Kitty pulls at our hero’s heart. Kitty Hart’s business of cat-sitting is a booming success but she never anticipated to fall for one of the clients. With both Miles and Kitty struggling with demons from the past, our couple find empathy and love together as them embark on a relationship brought together by a naked cat. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Miles and Kitty, and the potential fall-out as Kitty’s business takes a hit when a viral video doesn’t show our heroine in a very good light.

The relationship between Kitty and Miles begins as a business arrangement. Miles struggles with the direction of his mother’s life, living with the guilt of a loss, years before. His mother and father are no longer together, leaving Miles to battle between head and heart with his mother’s mental downward spiral. Kitty Hart knows the pain of loss, and finds herself wondering why her mother has yet to move on but as Kitty’s business continues to explode, an aha moment finds Kitty wondering where everything went wrong. Meeting Mr. Grumpypants Miles Thorn gives Kitty a hope for the future, a future that may be compromised when Miles life is on the line. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters are colorful and energetic. We are introduced to Kitty’s sister Hattie, and their mother Lucile Hart, as well as Kitty’s best friend Kat; Mile’s mother; and his friends/ members of the team Josh, Austin, and Parker O’Toole.

A LOVE CATASTROPHE is a meet-cute story, a romantic comedy with some series undertones including dementia and death, guilt and regret. The premise is heart warming and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are dynamic and determined.

Kitty is an internet famous for her dealings with cats. She loves her job, but she does feel like something is missing in her life. She literally discovers it is love when she falls face-first into Miles. He needs her help, and she will be willing to step in and do what she does best.

Miles is a grumpy nerd caring for his sick mother. He has to take care of her cat and has no clue how to deal with the pesky animal. He finds Kitty and hopes she can help him while he handles more pressing issues in his life. He finds her quirkiness a bit annoying but soon develops a friendship when he discovers there is more to her than just cats.

I’m not sure if I’m the right person for this book. Yes, I’m not a cat lover or any animals for that, but I have read plenty of romances with animals involved and didn’t mind. It’s just a story, right? My problem with this book is that it does have all of the elements to make a cute little story, but somewhere along the journey, I lost interest. It became predictable and, quite frankly, not memorable. This is just shocking since I truly love Ms. Hunting’s novels.

The aspect that I did find myself enjoying is the family dynamics of Kitty and Miles. To be a primary caregiver for someone and watch them slowly lose their memory and their life is so heartbreaking. This kind of hit close to home, and I was drawn into that aspect of the story.

The romance is slow and takes a back burner to the cat talk and goofiness that initially takes place at the beginning of the story. I admit that I put the book down several times, debating if I wanted to continue because of that. Once the main characters came into play, I felt a bit better about the story, but still, it was overshadowed by the heavy subject matters.

As usual, the author writes easy-going stories that can pull you in. Despite my mixed emotions with this one, it was a fairly light read.

Thank you to Netgalley for this E-ARC. I LOVED loved this book and I'm not even a animal person. This the first book I read from this author but definitely not the last. I love how this was so smooth I loved the titles of each chapter but most of all I loved how there was no hard core drama btw the main characters but still addressed heavy subjects but they felt light.

Castastic FUN!

A Love Catastrophe is a swoon worthy love story with a cat-lover and a dog loving, hockey guy. Kitty Hart is basically the "Cat Whisperer," helping people to overcome challenges with cat ownership. She has a huge social following, and dedicated clients who "meaw" her praises.

Miles works for the local NHL team, and is in need of Kitty's services since his mother's hospitalization, He's been menaced by Prince Francis, his Moms hairless cat since taking over his care. This is an opposites attract story, as Kitty is pure sunshine and Miles is a curmudgeon.

The best part of this romance is that it doesn't fall prey to the make-up/break-up scenario seen in this genre. Their romance is genuine and heartfelt.

Thank you Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the complimentary copy.

Ah this book... From the first page you know... you just know you're in for a funny, all over the place romance, that will make you laugh and will make you fall in love.

It has Helena's trademarked humor and spaztic heroine, with a touch of hockey and a lot of cats, makes this book the perfect summer read. Light hearted and fun, when our collective soul just needs a little bit of levity.

A Love Catastrophe is a light and easy, low angst read with characters you can't help falling for! Kitty Hart has a very successful cat sitting and training business called the Kitty Whisperer but her newest client is provoking emotions out of her she's never felt before. Miles Thorn is trying to balance about a million different things at once, with a new job where he needs to prove himself if he wants to be a permanent part of the team and now with his mother in the hospital and add in having to look after her demon cat, who Miles has never got along with, so when he stumbles upon the Kitty Whisperer's services, it feels like a godsend but neither of them could of predicted that Prince Francis (the cat) would be the reason they found true happiness. Kitty and Miles's first meeting couldn't have gone any worse, Kitty left that meeting with the impression that Miles is a cat hating jerk, which to a girl like Kitty is the ultimate crime, how can he not love cats?! But to make matters worse he is insanely hot! Why does the first guy Kitty has been attracted to in a long time turn out to be a jerk who hates cats! "I've never been physically attracted to someone I strongly dislike before, and I find it extra conflicting. My body doesn't seem to care that he's a dog-loving, cat-hating jerk. It seems to think all that matters is ticking my physical attraction boxes." But as they spend more time together looking after Prince Francis, Kitty gets to see the real Miles, not the highly stressed version of him that she first met and when she finds out her attraction is reciprocated, neither one of them could of predicted how perfect they'd be together.

I enjoyed A Love Catastrophe, I loved how quirky Kitty was and how you don't get to see characters like hers very often which made this book even more enjoyable. I've rated this book 3.5 stars because it is low on angst and steam which I wasn't expecting from a Helena Hunting book and it didn't grip me like a Helena book normally would but overall I did enjoy it I just didn't love it. I received an arc of A Love Catastrophe and I am voluntarily leaving my review.

First, don't be scared of by the cover or title. I'm not a cat person and I almost passed on this book. I only went for it because I've read a bunch of Helena Hunting books, and have enjoyed them all. This is almost two different stories, one before Miles and Kitty like each other, and one after. It's a balance of emotion, I laughed out loud a few times, there are some heavy aspects, silly scenes, just a lot going on. I ended up liking it more than I thought with the whole cat thing. Cats are a big part, but not all of it, it works. There's a lot of family dynamic, and in true Helena Hunting form, a link to hockey, which was a nice surprise.

I love Helena Hunting’s rom-coms. This is a cute cat lady / dog lover, enemies to lovers story. Two people who start off on the wrong foot find friendship and love from shared sadness and loss and the love of pets. Lots of laughable moments mixed with heartwarming moments. I enjoyed this light romance read.

A nerdy numbers guy and an outgoing cat lover overcome their initial animosity in this sweet, sometimes light, sometimes intense tale of love.

Miles is more of a dog person and with his mother in the hospital, he needs to find a sitter for her cat, pronto. Kitty Hart, the Kitty Whisperer, with her flashy website and huge social media following, seems like the perfect solution. They run into each other, literally, in front of his mother’s house before Kitty gets the chance to meet Prince Francis, a Sphynx cat that is very unhappy to be left to his own devices. Despite a rocky start, they start bonding over Prince Francis, his mom’s needs, and an unexpected online disaster.

I found both their jobs super interesting and I enjoyed all the references to it. Well, maybe all the cat puns were a bit much, but it was wonderful to see how passionate they both were about their careers. I’m not a huge cat fan, but I can certainly appreciate Kitty’s devotion to them.

The story takes a heavier turn with Mile’s mother’s dementia, the fallout from an incident that Kitty had in the park, and Kitty’s reluctance to move on from her father’s passing. But through all that, their slow-burning romance weaves its own kind of magic. It just kind of snuck up on them, but once it got started, the relationship became a source of support for both of them. I loved that, instead of a big break-up right before the HEA, we saw them struggle together through their issues and be there for each other.

I can recommend this if you like a steamy opposites-attract romance, where the characters go through rough patches, but come out at the end stronger than they went in.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I will start by saying, I am not a cat person. I am allergic to cats, and they have never been my thing. I think you might need to be a cat person to enjoy this book. There are a lot of cat puns and they really weren't my thing.

This is a super fluffy mindless read. I was initially drawn to the cover and didn't realize this was a love story featuring a cat whisperer. The story didn't really have a lot of depth and felt kind of cringe-y to me. There were some steamier sections, but I just found it a just okay read. Rounding up from 2.5 stars.

Thank you Netgalley & Forever books for the advanced reader copy.
