Miles Thorn is a math nerd that's recently landed his dream job. He's a data analyst for the NHL. He's trying to prove why he's an asset to the Toronto team, but lately his life is pure chaos. He has a lot on his plate with his new job and caring for his mother's cat. Since he will sometimes be required to travel for work, he needs someone to watch the mischievous cat he's currently responsible for. Prince Francis is a Sphynx that gets into all kinds of trouble, and he needs to find a cat sitter. Then he meets the Kitty Whisperer, Kitty Hart. She's a gorgeous, quirky, popular cat lady that runs a successful business where she offers cat care and training services. They get off on the wrong foot and both make a bad first impression, but soon there's a sizzling attraction between them that can't be ignored. As real feelings develop, will they each find what they've needed all along?
A Love Catastrophe by Helena Hunting is a slow burn, opposites attract, grumpy/sunshine, frenemies to lovers romance full of humor, cute banter, awkward moments and amazing chemistry. I really enjoyed this story and love Helena Hunting's writing! This was a sweet book about fate and finding you purr-son. ;))
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book (given by the author)...

This was really sweet read focusing on social media influencers which isn’t my favorite storyline to read to be honest. The story was nice and the characters were great, but everything seemed to flow a bit too perfectly without any real conflict or major obstacles for Kitty and Miles to overcome. I guess the conflicts were to be focused on their moms, but I guess I just needed something more for them.
This book does deal with some medical issues that might be a trigger.
More review to come.
Helena Hunting writes such charming romantic comedies. This book is perfect for animal lovers and haters alike, being very much a story of two people who have faced their own separate hardships finding someone to share that burden. Plus there are tons of cute animals, both cats and dogs.
Check out my more detailed thoughts below…
Characters: The first character we meet is the hockey nerd Miles. He is a data guy for the local hockey team, spending his time at work analyzing player data to maximize performance. Mr. Suit and Tie is actually trying to keep his life together as he starts off on this new job. Miles ends up needing the services of a cat sitter, enter Kitty. From the moment she stepped foot on the page I fell in love with her personality. She was quirky in a way that was so endearing and relatable. I loved how loyal she was to friends and family. She is dedicated to her job, maybe a bit too much and is reluctant to introduce much change in her life. They have both had to face incredible hardships, as you read it will all be brought to light and you will keep asking yourself how this cute romantic comedy is bringing you to tears.
Setting: The story is set in Toronto and the surrounding area. As a Canadian who has never been there, I cannot speak to the references, but as a GTA native, I trust that Helena has thrown in some easter eggs for those who will understand. The city did not take up a special place in the story outside of it was nice to see this story set in Canada, by a Canadian author.
Pacing: From the first few pages this book brought a smile to my face and it made me chuckle countless times. This book started off with lots of comedy, then Helena hit us with some damn hard emotional punches.
Romance: When Kitty and Miles meet she never thinks it will work out, instead of an adorable meet cute they have an awkward first meeting with Kitty falling flat on her face. How could a romance be possible between a dog person and a cat person, well Kitty and Miles defeat the odds. I loved watching these two have their feelings gradually grow as their physical and emotional attraction only grew with the depth of their feelings. The sex scenes were refreshingly different, they felt relatable with the missteps in choreography, the giggling, and the charming words. This is a couple readers will adore rooting for!
Kitty is a quirky, happy cat-sitter with a strong social media presence. Miles is an analyst for the NHL who prefers dogs. But when their paths cross, they quickly realize that it's true, opposites do attract, but will their story end in heartache?
It's your typical dog versus cat tale, but full of humour, heartache, and healing. Helena Hunting's writing style was a little different for this story, but it worked really well. Plus, I'm a sucker for local 🇨🇦 references.
I'm never disappointed in any of Helena Hunting books and the same goes to this one. This story as funny, meet cute, swoon worthy, opposite attracts, and much more.
A grump and a happy cat loving girl.
An enjoyable read.
I enjoyed the heck out of this! It was quirky and had a lot of heart. The cat sitter aspect was hilarious, and not too much. The chemistry between these two was explosive. It was a balanced romcom with good spice and great antics.
A Love Catastrophe by Helena Hunting was an enjoyable story about the kitty whisperer and the man who needs her help. Kitty is a cat sitter extraordinaire. She is quirky and determined. Miles is stuck caring for a cat and needs Kitty’s help. They definitely do not hit it off at the beginning, but as they spend time together, they get to see different sides of the other. Though overall the story was fun, there were some serious times as well.

Happy reading.
A Love Catastrophe by Helena Hunting
Kitty Hart owns a cat caring service. Her business is growing through her social accounts and her soft heart. She more comfortable with her charges than people.
Miles Thorn calls Kitty to take care of his mother’s cat while she’s in the hospital and he has to go out of town. Miles isn’t especially social himself preferring data and hockey. The two meet and it’s a match made in Kitty heaven. Now they just have to get past all the pesky details like the gnome trashing cat and the allergic reaction Miles has as they attempt to clean up.
Cute and animal friendly with sexy times, after feeding the pets.
I loved the occasional awkwardness of both Miles and Kitty as they become close and get to know each other. There are some good quips and a couple heartfelt moments that brought tears. And anyone that has had a pet will recognize typical behavior in the book as being authentic and usual.
A wonderful love story with our favorite family pets along for the ride.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
Man, I absolutely devoured A Love Catastrophe by Helena Hunting, I mean I finished it in a single day, and I'm low key sad it's over. There are just some books that no matter how much you want to savor them, and take your time you can't help but rush through them. Helena Hunting is always on my one-click buy, must read immediately list, and this book did not disappoint. It had such great characters, hilarious situations, adorable pets, and a plot line that kept me hooked.
One of my favorite parts about Helena's books is the humor. She is always so good at balancing humorous situations that seem more realistic, like you can see yourself accidentally doing these things, with tough situations. In A Love Catastrophe you have lovable, klutzy cat sitter Kitty and a little uptight but not too uptight sports analyst who continually sticks his foot in his mouth, Miles. Both of them are constantly putting themselves in awkward yet hilarious situations that give the story levity, but both of them are dealing with losses that even after years they haven't been able to put behind them. For Kitty she's feeling the grief and guilt of losing her father while Miles has the same feelings about the loss of his younger brother. Once they meet each other and start to get to know one another they begin to realize they might be ready to put their traumas behind them.
And I'm not going to lie, I too found it funny and ironic that a woman named Kitty ran a cat sitting and training service, also there is her best friend, Kat, who runs a cat cafe, together they are Kitty-Kat. I did also chuckle that her business' name is Kitty Whisperer and so many people assume it's dirty.
A beautiful rom-com for the soul! The heroine is (like me) a cat lover, and she’s sweet, and relatable. She meets a man who is in need of a cat sitter. While she is an optimist, he couldn’t be more different. He’s a dog-loving pessimist that doesn’t exactly look on the bright side. This book isn’t your average rom-com with nothing but swoon worthy moments. There are some real-life situations, and sensitive subjects in this amazing book. This was a beautiful enemies to lovers, opposites attract love story.
Cat lovers rejoice!
If you've ever wanted to read a book version of Gorgeous by Taylor Swift, this is it!
Helena Hunting strikes a really good balance between heavy/serious topics and humor in this cat themed rom-com. I really enjoyed seeing the two main characters personalities evolve. It's an overall sincere, loving, heart-warming happy and sappy love story and I loved every page!
If you are looking for a a cute low drama rom com look no further! There were many laugh out loud moments in this book! I was hooked pretty quickly and read it pretty much in one sitting. I loved that the animals had just as much of a personalities and the main characters did! Also if you like spice but not to much, this book delivers that! You will also feel the feels as well as laughing. This book does deal with some major sensitive subjects, but had just the right amount of lightness to not make it super heavy. Overall a good read that I would recommend!
Received a arc for a honest review.
A Love Catastrophe is a light opposites attract romance about a cat whisperer named Kitty and a guy named Miles who prefers dogs to cats. It was hard for me to get into this book and didn’t feel a lot of chemistry between the main characters. If you love cats, this book is for you!
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC.

Another laugh out loud story from Helena Hunting. It was such an enjoyable, lighthearted rom-com. I loved every minute of it. Prince Francis stole the show but Kitty and Miles came in a close second haha. I am a huge cat lover so all the cat lingo and jokes made me happy. If you are looking for something fun and no 3rd act breakup, then this one is for you!!

I read this book in a day! It had me hooked instantly. Miles and Kitty had such great chemistry and I enjoyed all of the animal side characters so much.
I loved that we got to see Miles and Kitty as a couple for so much of the book. It’s nice to read a book every once in a while where we just kind of get to see the MC’s being a couple for more than a chapter or two.
Their collective obstacle was overcoming their pasts and they worked through that together, so I was so glad the author didn’t break these two up before we got to the HEA.
CW: death of a loved one, grief, Alzheimer’s.
Thank you to the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I love a good rom com and this book had a decent amount of both. From the beginning it was clear this was a grump/sunshine trope, one of my favorites, and I was so excited.
My typical reaction to Helena Huntings books is to be annoyed at the beginning and then find that the characters had much more deep and meaningful stories that contributed to what bothered me in the beginning. This one was no different and I did feel a personal connection to the dementia storyline.
I did struggle a lot with a cat trainer who uses a water gun on a cat. I have read numerous articles in the last decade that have convinced me that this is not something that will help a cat’s behavior. I love animals and this caused me to knock my rating down.
Love Helena's books. I really enjoyed reading this beautiful story. Such an amazing book. Five star read for me
While pet sitters are typically for dogs, this one has a unique spin where Kitty is a cat sitter who meets Miles, who is trying to simultaneously take care of his mom who is suffering from dementia and her hairless cat. Miles is clearly a dog person, and Kitty is determined to not only win over Price Francis the cat, but Miles as well.
The two do the typical dance, while providing support for each other. He's dealing with his mom, and she's overwhelmed with her client list. They eventually come together in a sweet romance that has a few funny moments, while not at all your typical rom-com.
The Love Catastrophe, by Helena Hunting, is the story of Kitty Hart and the internet sensation she has become with her Kitty Whisperer podcast and postings. Her cat sitting and training business is really picking up, but her personal life has been helping her mother and watching out for her sister since their dad’s unexpected death 10 years earlier. Her sister Hattie is now almost out of college with an internship to follow in the city, and her mother is even beginning to venture out into a life of her own. Kitty needs to get a life!
When Kitty meets her new client Miles Thorn the meeting goes from bad, when she trips on a curb falling forward, to worse, when he thinks she is pulling a weapon on his mother’s mischievous sphinx cat, Prince Francis, and tackles her. Miles’ mother is being hospitalized after having been found wandering the streets in the middle of the night and unable to answer easy questions. And now he has learned things are worse than he had thought and she has early onset dementia.
For such an unlikely meeting, and the fact he is a dog person, these two quirky characters work together for the good of Prince Francis and his person, finding common ground and building something neither expected. Averting one catastrophe after another, Kitty and Miles learn what is real and find strength, one in the other, as worlds fall apart and reorder.
This is a funny, wise story that has various themes of loss woven within its texture in such a way that the reader may find many heartfelt messages laced through this tale. I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!
Miles needs someone to look after his mom's cat. Finding someone online named the Kitty Whisperer sounds sketchy but he's desperate so he calls her anyway. Somehow these two opposites become friends, and then more, baring their inner demons to each other, relying on each other for support and comfort, and eventually so much more.
Kitty's life is her dream. She loves cats, well, all animals really, and gets to care for them for a living. She didn't expect some of the crazy responses to her name, but she's well on her way past all that nonsense, when a grumpy but hot guy needs her services. Somehow she becomes friends with Miles, and eventually more, when it looks as if her life takes a turn, one that goes viral in a bad way. Will Miles stick by her? Or is this grumpy/sunshine couple come to its end?
What a sweet, fun, low on angst rom-com this is. There's a lot less heat than Helena normally delivers, and it's missed, but the adorable characters and all the cats do their best to make up for the lack of spice. There's also more emotional depth than I was expecting given the cover and the blurb, and it helps balance out all the sort of slapstick to some of the shenanigans. All in all, a charming tale with a lovable couple and even more lovable furballs.
