A beautiful rom-com for the soul! The heroine is (like me) a cat lover, and she’s sweet, and relatable. She meets a man who is in need of a cat sitter. While she is an optimist, he couldn’t be more different. He’s a dog-loving pessimist that doesn’t exactly look on the bright side. This book isn’t your average rom-com with nothing but swoon worthy moments. There are some real-life situations, and sensitive subjects in this amazing book. This was a beautiful enemies to lovers, opposites attract love story.

Cat lovers rejoice!
If you've ever wanted to read a book version of Gorgeous by Taylor Swift, this is it!
Helena Hunting strikes a really good balance between heavy/serious topics and humor in this cat themed rom-com. I really enjoyed seeing the two main characters personalities evolve. It's an overall sincere, loving, heart-warming happy and sappy love story and I loved every page!

If you are looking for a a cute low drama rom com look no further! There were many laugh out loud moments in this book! I was hooked pretty quickly and read it pretty much in one sitting. I loved that the animals had just as much of a personalities and the main characters did! Also if you like spice but not to much, this book delivers that! You will also feel the feels as well as laughing. This book does deal with some major sensitive subjects, but had just the right amount of lightness to not make it super heavy. Overall a good read that I would recommend!
Received a arc for a honest review.

A Love Catastrophe is a light opposites attract romance about a cat whisperer named Kitty and a guy named Miles who prefers dogs to cats. It was hard for me to get into this book and didn’t feel a lot of chemistry between the main characters. If you love cats, this book is for you!
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC.

Another laugh out loud story from Helena Hunting. It was such an enjoyable, lighthearted rom-com. I loved every minute of it. Prince Francis stole the show but Kitty and Miles came in a close second haha. I am a huge cat lover so all the cat lingo and jokes made me happy. If you are looking for something fun and no 3rd act breakup, then this one is for you!!

I read this book in a day! It had me hooked instantly. Miles and Kitty had such great chemistry and I enjoyed all of the animal side characters so much.
I loved that we got to see Miles and Kitty as a couple for so much of the book. It’s nice to read a book every once in a while where we just kind of get to see the MC’s being a couple for more than a chapter or two.
Their collective obstacle was overcoming their pasts and they worked through that together, so I was so glad the author didn’t break these two up before we got to the HEA.
CW: death of a loved one, grief, Alzheimer’s.
Thank you to the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love a good rom com and this book had a decent amount of both. From the beginning it was clear this was a grump/sunshine trope, one of my favorites, and I was so excited.
My typical reaction to Helena Huntings books is to be annoyed at the beginning and then find that the characters had much more deep and meaningful stories that contributed to what bothered me in the beginning. This one was no different and I did feel a personal connection to the dementia storyline.
I did struggle a lot with a cat trainer who uses a water gun on a cat. I have read numerous articles in the last decade that have convinced me that this is not something that will help a cat’s behavior. I love animals and this caused me to knock my rating down.

Love Helena's books. I really enjoyed reading this beautiful story. Such an amazing book. Five star read for me

While pet sitters are typically for dogs, this one has a unique spin where Kitty is a cat sitter who meets Miles, who is trying to simultaneously take care of his mom who is suffering from dementia and her hairless cat. Miles is clearly a dog person, and Kitty is determined to not only win over Price Francis the cat, but Miles as well.
The two do the typical dance, while providing support for each other. He's dealing with his mom, and she's overwhelmed with her client list. They eventually come together in a sweet romance that has a few funny moments, while not at all your typical rom-com.

The Love Catastrophe, by Helena Hunting, is the story of Kitty Hart and the internet sensation she has become with her Kitty Whisperer podcast and postings. Her cat sitting and training business is really picking up, but her personal life has been helping her mother and watching out for her sister since their dad’s unexpected death 10 years earlier. Her sister Hattie is now almost out of college with an internship to follow in the city, and her mother is even beginning to venture out into a life of her own. Kitty needs to get a life!
When Kitty meets her new client Miles Thorn the meeting goes from bad, when she trips on a curb falling forward, to worse, when he thinks she is pulling a weapon on his mother’s mischievous sphinx cat, Prince Francis, and tackles her. Miles’ mother is being hospitalized after having been found wandering the streets in the middle of the night and unable to answer easy questions. And now he has learned things are worse than he had thought and she has early onset dementia.
For such an unlikely meeting, and the fact he is a dog person, these two quirky characters work together for the good of Prince Francis and his person, finding common ground and building something neither expected. Averting one catastrophe after another, Kitty and Miles learn what is real and find strength, one in the other, as worlds fall apart and reorder.
This is a funny, wise story that has various themes of loss woven within its texture in such a way that the reader may find many heartfelt messages laced through this tale. I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!

Miles needs someone to look after his mom's cat. Finding someone online named the Kitty Whisperer sounds sketchy but he's desperate so he calls her anyway. Somehow these two opposites become friends, and then more, baring their inner demons to each other, relying on each other for support and comfort, and eventually so much more.
Kitty's life is her dream. She loves cats, well, all animals really, and gets to care for them for a living. She didn't expect some of the crazy responses to her name, but she's well on her way past all that nonsense, when a grumpy but hot guy needs her services. Somehow she becomes friends with Miles, and eventually more, when it looks as if her life takes a turn, one that goes viral in a bad way. Will Miles stick by her? Or is this grumpy/sunshine couple come to its end?
What a sweet, fun, low on angst rom-com this is. There's a lot less heat than Helena normally delivers, and it's missed, but the adorable characters and all the cats do their best to make up for the lack of spice. There's also more emotional depth than I was expecting given the cover and the blurb, and it helps balance out all the sort of slapstick to some of the shenanigans. All in all, a charming tale with a lovable couple and even more lovable furballs.

So funny and fun!!
In this laugh out loud funny book from the always entertaining Helena Hunting we get a perfectly fun read. kitty and Miles and the always fun dog person or cat person and the best debates happen and maybe just a good love story along the way. I have become a huge fan of this author. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.
Authors Blurb: Kitty Hart has become internet famous as the Kitty Whisperer for her expertise on all things feline, and as a result, her cat-sitting business is booming. But lately, she has a terrible feeling that maybe her life isn’t quite going where it’s supposed to—especially after falling face-first into her newest client. Not exactly the best first impression.
Fortunately, Miles Thorn is just as bad at first impressions. Strike one: he doesn’t like cats, especially Prince Francis, the haughty and mischievous Sphynx his mom left in his care. Strike two: tackling Kitty to the floor in a misguided attempt to save the pet he continually calls “the gremlin.”
As awkwardness slides into attraction and things start to turn purr-sonal, will these two complete opposites ever be able to find their furry-tail ending?
This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.
Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕

I can't lie, I was excited about this title. Cats. Books with cats in them and cat puns. What could be more purr-fect (I would apologize for that, but I am not even a little bit sorry)
Kitty and Miles are sweet together. Their meet cute is anything but cute and in fact is both funny and cringeworthy. And, you can understand why they both decide they don't really like one another, as both make some judgments about the other that are correct in the situation, but once they get to know one another turn out to be reality but with a backstory...which is the truth for all of us.
I believed their friendship. I liked that Miles was a math nerd working for a hockey team, and I liked that both of them were just a little quirky without being so quirky that I couldn't relate to them.
That said, I never really felt that much of a spark between them. I did feel their attraction, but it never really became more than that for me, and I am not sure why...although I think it might have been a little too sweet in the parts with them, and as there were other parts of the story that were a little more darker/more serious I think it made them feel less important in comparison, if that makes sense.
That said, I did still laugh and enjoy this title, and I recommend it.

Now, I’m not a cat person. Mostly because I’m allergic, and in college I had a roommate who decided to get a cat while I was gone during the summer. And then when I told her I couldn’t live with one, she skipped out of the apartment and I had to find a new place to live. But, I do think cats are cute. I don’t hate cats. But I also totally get what Kitty thought about dog people. Because yeah, there were some things in the story that were surprises to me about cats. And of course I even learned something new this past weekend from my own sister about how the main allergen from cats actually has to do with their saliva, not the hair/dander, because they are licking themselves all the time the saliva is on those things. But I digress from my review.
Now along her line of thoughts about giving dog loving guys more of a chance, maybe I need to give cat loving guys more of a chance than I have in the past, lol. Kitty and Miles had a total meet cute, even if he was a total grump at first. Now, to be fair, Miles was dealing with a lot with his mom in the hospital. And what is it right now with so many books seeming to have situation similar to what I just went through or am thinking I’ll soon be worrying about with my own parents? And, Miles did come out of his grumpiness and was actually a pretty nice guy, if a bit awkward at times. But in a cute way!
I love that we didn’t necessarily get any of the breaking up bits, especially not in the 3rd act. I guess in a way that might make this not quite a romance exactly. For me though, it seemed pretty realistic, as if it was the way a normal person might fall in love and go about a relationship. At least from most of the examples I’ve seen in my life of relationships that have lasted. We still got a lot of the steamy scenes that Hunting does so well. I’d say this was a win of a story, one I couldn’t put down!

Quirky and heartfelt
5 stars
I have always enjoyed the books of Helena Hunting’s that I’ve read, from the more emotional ones like her Lakeside series or Spark House series to her fun romcoms like Meet Cute or Kiss My Cupcake. This book falls into the latter category but still tackles heavy emotions and topics. While it doesn’t shy away from them, it keeps things light enough that I never felt bogged down and thoroughly enjoyed this fun read.
Miles is in a bit of a bind. He has a new job that he has to perform well at and he needs to take a business trip out of town - but his mum’s in the hospital and someone needs to take care of her demon of a cat. Enter Kitty - the Kitty Whisperer. She’s excited to take care of the hot nerd’s cat - it’s just a shame he’s such a cat hating jerk. And that’s before he tackles her to the ground.
Miles is my hero catnip. He’s nerdy but hot, slightly awkward but also strong and delicious. But the boy has layers and he’s got a lot to deal with that made him likeable and relatable. I love how much he adored Kitty and how he never quite lost his dorky moments. He turned from jerk to nice guy to boyfriend to perfect boyfriend through the whole story.
I’m always anxious when I hear there’s a Kitty type character in a story. You know, that “quirky” heroine that’s almost a caricature? Well thankfully, that’s not Kitty. Sure she’s got her quirks - and she REALLY likes cats - but she’s a very real character with, like Miles, quite a lot of emotional baggage. But she was upbeat, fun, relatable and I was rooting from her, and relating to her, right from the start. Even if I’m more of a dog person, myself.
The story of Kitty and Miles’ relationship was fun, cute and absolutely perfect for their pairing. It felt natural but there was also a delicious spark between the two. It was the kind of build-up that had butterflies flapping in my stomach with glee. And the payoff was delightful, too. Not too in your face but sexy enough to make me cheer.
In the third quarter (ish) of the book, the relationship / love story takes a back seat as we hear more about Kitty and some trials and tribulations that she’s going through. Miles is still present - and helps save the day - but this takes the place of any big misunderstanding / break up before our happily ever after. It dipped its toe away from the romance at this point - which I could see why it would irk some readers - but it was still interesting and fit perfectly with the whole theme of the story which included Miles and Kitty becoming fully rounded and better people for each other.
Now as to why I think this book might not get the full 5 stars from some people. Alongside the fun, the quirky and the romance, this book has some topics that could be really triggering to some people. Or, depending on what’s going on in your life or your experiences, could cause an extreme emotional reaction in you. The things particularly are [spoilers] parent with dementia, death of a parent (and finding the body), death of a sibling, the guilt, grief and all emotions that come with loss. [spoilers end].
I was in a fairly good place while reading this book so I personally didn’t feel that anything hit too deeply or upset me too much. I did shed a tear or two but anyone that knows me will tell you I cry at the drop of a hat! Everything was handled with dignity and accuracy but if you’re not in the right mindset then I could see why some might not connect with this book as much as I did.
For me, this was a quirky read with great characters and a lot of fun but still with a heartfelt thread running through it. Ms Hunting’s writing is exemplary, as usual, and she really draws you into her stories. So much so that at times, I forgot I was reading about made-up characters and started to think of them as people I knew! I enjoyed this book a lot and would happily recommend it if it sounds like something you would enjoy, too.

This book! I honestly just adored it. Grumpy/sunshine, with plenty of laughs, heat, awkwardness and a little but of sad, this book was everything I needed. A perfect summer read, I can't wait to dive in again! Cat-fastic!

POV: Dual
Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️
As a long time fan of Helena Hunting, I can say that this is probably the sweetest book I’ve read of hers! Sometimes, a book like this is exactly what you need! It includes the kind of FMC that she writes best, awkward but lovable, land a different kind of MMC, because although he comes off as a grump, he turns out to be sweet but also awkward and kind of nerdy. I love that this story still involves hockey, as he is a stats analyst for an NHL team.
Kitty and Miles are adorably awkward together, so even the steamy parts are more cute than spicy. The best part is that most of the drama that is in this book is not relationship drama and there is no third act breakup! However, the family drama is heartbreaking and while most of the book is light it was these parts that had me tearing up (parent with dementia, death of a parent in the past, and death of a younger sibling in the past).
I would consider myself more of a dog person, but I enjoyed the cat aspect and the punny parts, but there is something for dog lovers too in this one!

Rating: 5.0 stars
Let me just say, I devoured this book. It's been a long time since I stayed up to finish a book, but I could not put this down.
Initially, I felt like Kitty, our FMC, was a bit silly, but she grew on me. Miles, our MMC, stole the show though! (I might be biased though since I'm more of a dog person) I was laughing and crying throughout the story. It was grumpy-sunshine, fine line (between hate and attraction) flirting, trauma-bonding perfection. (CW: loss of a parent, dementia in a parent) The balance between light and silly moments and the darker, more emotional topics was perfect. The author handled everything with the proper care and respect in my opinion.
Moving on to some details: I loved that both main characters had very different and unusual jobs and they were passionate about them. There's incredible growth for both MCs throughout the story, individually and together. Their relationship felt like such a safe space.
The one thing I loved the most was that there wasn't the usual miscommunication/misunderstanding that causes a rift between the lovers in the last quarter of the book. That's not to say that everything was perfect, but the miscommunication trope grates on my nerves and to have it take a major back burner in this book was such a relief!
This might just be my new favorite rom-com and I'll definitely be grabbing a physical copy ASAP and checking out more of Hunting's books.
If you're looking for a silly little rom-com that also deals with real life topics, this just might be the book for you!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher, Forever (Grand Central Publishing), for an advanced copy. All thoughts and opinions are wholly my own.

A Love Catastrophe is not only a sweet romance, but hilarious too. I spent a lot of time laughing out loud at both the situations Miles and Kitty find themselves in, and their sometimes quirky and awkward dialogue early on in the story. Miles and Kitty are opposites attract, but also have similarities. Both have loss in their past that their families haven't fully moved on from, and watching them find their way and help each other with these changes, along with all the antics they wind up in makes for hilarious fun with a sweet, heartwarming romance. LOVED this.

A Love Catastrophe is a rom-com that delves into far more than just the pairing of an unlikely couple but also touches on some very real-to-life situations for so many people. Because of this, I’m going to mention that there may be a possible trigger for people who would be affected by the mention of dementia, or grief over parents. I believe anything mentioned is treated with care and respect but is also a vital part of the overall story and the growth of these characters.
To say that Miles is not a cat person would be the understatement of the century. And his mother’s Sphynx cat, Prince Francis, is fully aware of this fact and acts accordingly… which simply means on his worst behavior at all times. But these two need to get along, at least for the moment, as Miles’ mother is currently in the hospital, unable to care for her precious furbaby.
Kitty adores cats, and the feeling is returned. She’s gained a reputation as a cat whisperer, and her new catsitting business is slowly taking off. Miles has done his research and hires Kitty to watch this evil cat… and there is where three worlds will collide with interesting results.
There was a lot about A Love Catastrophe that I enjoyed and an almost equal amount that hit my cringe levels a bit too much. And I don’t intend to go any further than that. This is one of those times when certain parts of a story overshadowed the good parts… for me. No two people read the same book, so what I didn’t like you might. In my opinion, it’s a good book, and I’ll leave the rest up to your own reading of it.
