A love Catastrophe
By: Helena Hunting

So funny and fun!!

In this laugh out loud funny book from the always entertaining Helena Hunting we get a perfectly fun read. kitty and Miles and the always fun dog person or cat person and the best debates happen and maybe just a good love story along the way. I have become a huge fan of this author. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.

Authors Blurb: Kitty Hart has become internet famous as the Kitty Whisperer for her expertise on all things feline, and as a result, her cat-sitting business is booming. But lately, she has a terrible feeling that maybe her life isn’t quite going where it’s supposed to—especially after falling face-first into her newest client. Not exactly the best first impression.

Fortunately, Miles Thorn is just as bad at first impressions. Strike one: he doesn’t like cats, especially Prince Francis, the haughty and mischievous Sphynx his mom left in his care. Strike two: tackling Kitty to the floor in a misguided attempt to save the pet he continually calls “the gremlin.”

As awkwardness slides into attraction and things start to turn purr-sonal, will these two complete opposites ever be able to find their furry-tail ending?

This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.

Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕

I can't lie, I was excited about this title. Cats. Books with cats in them and cat puns. What could be more purr-fect (I would apologize for that, but I am not even a little bit sorry)

Kitty and Miles are sweet together. Their meet cute is anything but cute and in fact is both funny and cringeworthy. And, you can understand why they both decide they don't really like one another, as both make some judgments about the other that are correct in the situation, but once they get to know one another turn out to be reality but with a backstory...which is the truth for all of us.

I believed their friendship. I liked that Miles was a math nerd working for a hockey team, and I liked that both of them were just a little quirky without being so quirky that I couldn't relate to them.

That said, I never really felt that much of a spark between them. I did feel their attraction, but it never really became more than that for me, and I am not sure why...although I think it might have been a little too sweet in the parts with them, and as there were other parts of the story that were a little more darker/more serious I think it made them feel less important in comparison, if that makes sense.

That said, I did still laugh and enjoy this title, and I recommend it.

Now, I’m not a cat person. Mostly because I’m allergic, and in college I had a roommate who decided to get a cat while I was gone during the summer. And then when I told her I couldn’t live with one, she skipped out of the apartment and I had to find a new place to live. But, I do think cats are cute. I don’t hate cats. But I also totally get what Kitty thought about dog people. Because yeah, there were some things in the story that were surprises to me about cats. And of course I even learned something new this past weekend from my own sister about how the main allergen from cats actually has to do with their saliva, not the hair/dander, because they are licking themselves all the time the saliva is on those things. But I digress from my review.

Now along her line of thoughts about giving dog loving guys more of a chance, maybe I need to give cat loving guys more of a chance than I have in the past, lol. Kitty and Miles had a total meet cute, even if he was a total grump at first. Now, to be fair, Miles was dealing with a lot with his mom in the hospital. And what is it right now with so many books seeming to have situation similar to what I just went through or am thinking I’ll soon be worrying about with my own parents? And, Miles did come out of his grumpiness and was actually a pretty nice guy, if a bit awkward at times. But in a cute way!

I love that we didn’t necessarily get any of the breaking up bits, especially not in the 3rd act. I guess in a way that might make this not quite a romance exactly. For me though, it seemed pretty realistic, as if it was the way a normal person might fall in love and go about a relationship. At least from most of the examples I’ve seen in my life of relationships that have lasted. We still got a lot of the steamy scenes that Hunting does so well. I’d say this was a win of a story, one I couldn’t put down!

Quirky and heartfelt
5 stars

I have always enjoyed the books of Helena Hunting’s that I’ve read, from the more emotional ones like her Lakeside series or Spark House series to her fun romcoms like Meet Cute or Kiss My Cupcake. This book falls into the latter category but still tackles heavy emotions and topics. While it doesn’t shy away from them, it keeps things light enough that I never felt bogged down and thoroughly enjoyed this fun read.

Miles is in a bit of a bind. He has a new job that he has to perform well at and he needs to take a business trip out of town - but his mum’s in the hospital and someone needs to take care of her demon of a cat. Enter Kitty - the Kitty Whisperer. She’s excited to take care of the hot nerd’s cat - it’s just a shame he’s such a cat hating jerk. And that’s before he tackles her to the ground.

Miles is my hero catnip. He’s nerdy but hot, slightly awkward but also strong and delicious. But the boy has layers and he’s got a lot to deal with that made him likeable and relatable. I love how much he adored Kitty and how he never quite lost his dorky moments. He turned from jerk to nice guy to boyfriend to perfect boyfriend through the whole story.

I’m always anxious when I hear there’s a Kitty type character in a story. You know, that “quirky” heroine that’s almost a caricature? Well thankfully, that’s not Kitty. Sure she’s got her quirks - and she REALLY likes cats - but she’s a very real character with, like Miles, quite a lot of emotional baggage. But she was upbeat, fun, relatable and I was rooting from her, and relating to her, right from the start. Even if I’m more of a dog person, myself.

The story of Kitty and Miles’ relationship was fun, cute and absolutely perfect for their pairing. It felt natural but there was also a delicious spark between the two. It was the kind of build-up that had butterflies flapping in my stomach with glee. And the payoff was delightful, too. Not too in your face but sexy enough to make me cheer.

In the third quarter (ish) of the book, the relationship / love story takes a back seat as we hear more about Kitty and some trials and tribulations that she’s going through. Miles is still present - and helps save the day - but this takes the place of any big misunderstanding / break up before our happily ever after. It dipped its toe away from the romance at this point - which I could see why it would irk some readers - but it was still interesting and fit perfectly with the whole theme of the story which included Miles and Kitty becoming fully rounded and better people for each other.

Now as to why I think this book might not get the full 5 stars from some people. Alongside the fun, the quirky and the romance, this book has some topics that could be really triggering to some people. Or, depending on what’s going on in your life or your experiences, could cause an extreme emotional reaction in you. The things particularly are [spoilers] parent with dementia, death of a parent (and finding the body), death of a sibling, the guilt, grief and all emotions that come with loss. [spoilers end].

I was in a fairly good place while reading this book so I personally didn’t feel that anything hit too deeply or upset me too much. I did shed a tear or two but anyone that knows me will tell you I cry at the drop of a hat! Everything was handled with dignity and accuracy but if you’re not in the right mindset then I could see why some might not connect with this book as much as I did.

For me, this was a quirky read with great characters and a lot of fun but still with a heartfelt thread running through it. Ms Hunting’s writing is exemplary, as usual, and she really draws you into her stories. So much so that at times, I forgot I was reading about made-up characters and started to think of them as people I knew! I enjoyed this book a lot and would happily recommend it if it sounds like something you would enjoy, too.

This book! I honestly just adored it. Grumpy/sunshine, with plenty of laughs, heat, awkwardness and a little but of sad, this book was everything I needed. A perfect summer read, I can't wait to dive in again! Cat-fastic!

POV: Dual
Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️

As a long time fan of Helena Hunting, I can say that this is probably the sweetest book I’ve read of hers! Sometimes, a book like this is exactly what you need! It includes the kind of FMC that she writes best, awkward but lovable, land a different kind of MMC, because although he comes off as a grump, he turns out to be sweet but also awkward and kind of nerdy. I love that this story still involves hockey, as he is a stats analyst for an NHL team.

Kitty and Miles are adorably awkward together, so even the steamy parts are more cute than spicy. The best part is that most of the drama that is in this book is not relationship drama and there is no third act breakup! However, the family drama is heartbreaking and while most of the book is light it was these parts that had me tearing up (parent with dementia, death of a parent in the past, and death of a younger sibling in the past).

I would consider myself more of a dog person, but I enjoyed the cat aspect and the punny parts, but there is something for dog lovers too in this one!

Rating: 5.0 stars

Let me just say, I devoured this book. It's been a long time since I stayed up to finish a book, but I could not put this down.

Initially, I felt like Kitty, our FMC, was a bit silly, but she grew on me. Miles, our MMC, stole the show though! (I might be biased though since I'm more of a dog person) I was laughing and crying throughout the story. It was grumpy-sunshine, fine line (between hate and attraction) flirting, trauma-bonding perfection. (CW: loss of a parent, dementia in a parent) The balance between light and silly moments and the darker, more emotional topics was perfect. The author handled everything with the proper care and respect in my opinion.

Moving on to some details: I loved that both main characters had very different and unusual jobs and they were passionate about them. There's incredible growth for both MCs throughout the story, individually and together. Their relationship felt like such a safe space.

The one thing I loved the most was that there wasn't the usual miscommunication/misunderstanding that causes a rift between the lovers in the last quarter of the book. That's not to say that everything was perfect, but the miscommunication trope grates on my nerves and to have it take a major back burner in this book was such a relief!

This might just be my new favorite rom-com and I'll definitely be grabbing a physical copy ASAP and checking out more of Hunting's books.

If you're looking for a silly little rom-com that also deals with real life topics, this just might be the book for you!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher, Forever (Grand Central Publishing), for an advanced copy. All thoughts and opinions are wholly my own.

A Love Catastrophe is not only a sweet romance, but hilarious too. I spent a lot of time laughing out loud at both the situations Miles and Kitty find themselves in, and their sometimes quirky and awkward dialogue early on in the story. Miles and Kitty are opposites attract, but also have similarities. Both have loss in their past that their families haven't fully moved on from, and watching them find their way and help each other with these changes, along with all the antics they wind up in makes for hilarious fun with a sweet, heartwarming romance. LOVED this.

A Love Catastrophe is a rom-com that delves into far more than just the pairing of an unlikely couple but also touches on some very real-to-life situations for so many people. Because of this, I’m going to mention that there may be a possible trigger for people who would be affected by the mention of dementia, or grief over parents. I believe anything mentioned is treated with care and respect but is also a vital part of the overall story and the growth of these characters.

To say that Miles is not a cat person would be the understatement of the century. And his mother’s Sphynx cat, Prince Francis, is fully aware of this fact and acts accordingly… which simply means on his worst behavior at all times. But these two need to get along, at least for the moment, as Miles’ mother is currently in the hospital, unable to care for her precious furbaby.

Kitty adores cats, and the feeling is returned. She’s gained a reputation as a cat whisperer, and her new catsitting business is slowly taking off. Miles has done his research and hires Kitty to watch this evil cat… and there is where three worlds will collide with interesting results.

There was a lot about A Love Catastrophe that I enjoyed and an almost equal amount that hit my cringe levels a bit too much. And I don’t intend to go any further than that. This is one of those times when certain parts of a story overshadowed the good parts… for me. No two people read the same book, so what I didn’t like you might. In my opinion, it’s a good book, and I’ll leave the rest up to your own reading of it.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley, and I sincerely thank the author or publishing house for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Helena Hunting is a comfort author for us. We always know that it’s going to be a funny & cute book with a side of steam. Her heroines are always quirky and her heroes are hunky and you’re always guaranteed a quick read to escape with.

In A Love Catastrophe, Kitty is a cat expert and Miles is a dog lover, in other words, they are complete opposites. Miles hires Kitty to help tame his mother’s cat Prince Francis while she’s in the hospital. They start off hating each other (thanks to an awkward meet cute and some more awkward encounters) but eventually they give in and give a relationship a try. Of course there is a complication or trouble that Kitty needs to overcome but our favourite part was that it didn’t lead to an unnecessary third act break up!

Even though we are dog people 😏, this book was just the entertainment we were looking for!

Read if you like:
▪️An awkward meet cute
▪️Enemies to Lovers
▪️Cute pets (especially cats)
▪️Lots of banter
▪️No 3rd act break up!

I want to start off by saying how much I love Helena Hunting. She is one of my favorite authors. I will read anything and everything she writes. I received this ARC for my honest review and opinion. I give this book 3-4 stars. I can’t decide which way to lean. I was interested in reading the story and finding out what was going to happen but I felt like it didn’t suck me in, like her books normally do.

Miles and Kitty were meant for each other. Kitty was a ray of sunshine is Miles’ world of chaos. He had recently started a new job, which was under a trial basis. So he trying to make a good impression. Not only was he stressed about work, his mom was going through some health problem. It was all hitting him hard, when he met Kitty. She made his life that much brighter. Miles had to do everything he could to be by her side and keep the smile on her face. Kitty was living day by day, not realizing that she wasn’t really living, until she met Miles. He was a fresh of breath air she didn’t know she needed. They came into each other’s lives just at the right time.

5 Quirky Kitty Stars!

I have to admit I’m not lover of all things feline, but there was something about this book that just appealed to me when I read the blurb. And this book is so much more than about Kitty Hart and her cat sitting and training business. It’s about family, friends, moving on when it comes to family and acceptance. In between all of this is a romance that neither Kitty or Miles were expecting or even looking for.

And what a romance it is. It’s filled with witty banter, desire, laugh out loud moments and falling in love with a feline that in and of himself is his own little secondary character in this book. I loved the bumblingness of Miles when he and Kitty first meet. I love that Kitty is living her best life doing what she loves and adores by working with kitties in every shape and form earning her reputation as The Kitty Whisperer.

When you add in the fabulousness of Ms. Hunting’s writing, this is literally a purrfect book and I loved every single minute of it!

What a story! I mean, it has everything! It starts off with two awkward people getting off on the wrong foot and crankiness abounds. But eventually, that turns into a different kind of awkwardness, and then, well, heat abounds. Miles & Kitty both have family tragedies in their pasts they’re dealing with, or trying to (or trying not to 🤔). When Miles needs someone to watch his moms cat, he calls the Kitty Whisperer…and it’s like fate stepped in. Even though they didn’t get off on the right foot, they eventually come together and heal each other.

A Love Catastrophe was a cute, totally entertaining story filled with awesome scenes, laugh-out-loud moments, and some emotional ones too. I liked the characters and the dual POVs, the adorable moments with the animals, and watching Miles and Kitty come together. It was a fast-paced, easy read that I absolutely enjoyed.

I liked Kitty and her quirky but endearing personality. I liked learning all about her, how her company came to be, and all the subtle innuendos from her name. Miles was a sweetheart but did not make the best first impression when he and Kitty meet. I liked learning the why behind that, their back-and-forth interactions as they get to know each other, and learning about what was going on in his life. There are a lot of hilarious scenes between the two of them (with some animals thrown in!) that had me cracking up, I couldn’t get enough. I liked their chemistry and playful moments. Mixed in with the fun there are some heavier issues they were both dealing with in their lives, I thought it balanced well. I loved seeing them both move forward from the past and embrace change.

This was just a really great story with likable characters who had hearts of gold that were doing the best they could to move on from hard moments in their past. It wasn’t overly angsty or drama filled but there is a tiny bit of conflict to keep it moving forward. I liked the first half better than the second. I liked when they met and the building tension between them as they figure out their attraction, it had me hooked. The second half was steady with a tiny bit of mild drama and a nice happy ending. I liked it but I was missing some of the excitement and spark from the first half.

Overall, it was super enjoyable and I adored the chapter titles, they were the best. This story left me feeling happy with a smile on my face. If you want fun and entertaining, this would be a great choice!

Loved all the cat content, it’s what truly took this book to the top for me, I imagine this will go over great with cat lovers! Great pool book.

Helena Hunting has once again given us another swoony romcom to enjoy! Kitty, the ever optimistic, cat-loving heroine is the opposite of broody, dog loving Miles. When Miles hires Kitty to watch his mother’s cat while she’s in the hospital, the two do not start off on the right foot. It takes an allergic reaction and a trip to the ER for them both to let their guard down and see that they could be so much more than frenemies. I loved Kitty and Miles together. Their chemistry was palpable and they showed each other so much support. While this book has some harder topics such as parental death and illness, grief/trying to move forward and cyber bullying, the two deal with them together and strengthen their bond. The side characters provided some great banter and levity to balance out the heavier moments. This was another winner from Helena and I didn’t expect anything less!

Oh how I love Helena Hunting. Everything she writes is funny and easy and lovable. I didn't even need a summary in order to pick up this book. I'm not even a cat person and I fell in love with it! If you're a lover of rom com's, then what are you waiting for?
