Miles Thorn is in the middle of some very stressful situations. His mother is in the hospital, leaving him to care for her cat. The only problem is the cat is his nemesis and he finds himself sneezing anytime he is near the cat. But even if he loved cats, his job keeps him busy and traveling often, which means he can’t take care of the cat without help.
Kitty Hart has built an internet following with her cat sitting and cat care content. Running a cat sitting business, cats are her life. But she has a hard time keeping things professional when she meets her newest client and can’t believe the first impression she left. She lives with her mom and sister, and though she loves her job and family, she can’t help but look around and wonder if she is really where she is supposed to be.
These two are opposites in some ways but two peas in a pod in others. They are both just a little socially awkward. Tripping over their wods (and saying things they meant to keep in an inside voice), their awkwardness is both physical and verbal. He’s naturally grumpy due to all the disruptions to his normal routine at the beginning of the story. He may have come off as a jerk and a grump, but most people would be given the situation. Kitty is always sunny - to the point where she ignores what is really going on sometimes in favor of pretending everything is a-ok.
Though this dug into some pretty emotional situations and each character was dealing with some pretty heavy events in their lives, the story itself felt light and easy. I found myself tearing up at a few moments, but did a whole lot more guffawing throughout. The animal comedic relief was absolute perfection. The dog and cat provided many moments of hilarity (and a few of conflict, as well).

So first I have to say that I loved there was no 3rd act breakup. And the way Miles goes about fixing the issue was just so sweet.
On the surface, and on first meeting, Miles and Kitty don't work as a couple. But as they get to know each other they realize that they absolutely work as a couple. One of my favorite things was when Kitty took care of Miles when he had his allergic reaction.
If you love cats, and even dogs, and a story about a couple working through some trauma together this is definitely the book for you.

This is an adorable and incredibly fun rom-com that will delight readers with its whimsy and wit!
Kitty Hart is known as The Kitty Whisperer (she knows now that the term can be derived two ways, but didn't when she created her social media presence). Kitty loves all animals, and cats are her specialty. She is a cat sitter, cat trainer, and social media influencer about all things cats. When hockey numbers geek, Miles Thorn needs a cat sitter for his mother's cat, he awkwardly sets up a meeting for Kitty and his mother's Sphinx cat. Luckily for him, Kitty is just as awkward as he is, and even though he comes across as a cat hater, Kitty takes on the job.
This was just a gem of a rom-com. There is a bit of the Helena Hunting spice that we all know and love, but mostly this is just a really fun friendship blossoms into romance kind of book. Kitty and Miles are both so adorably awkward in social situations (something this introverted book worm knows a lot about), that I wanted to reach into the book and give them each a big hug numerous times throuhgout the book. One of the things I loved most about this book is that this very much felt like an organic falling in love kind of romance. They don't fall instantly in love, they don't have insta-lust or anything like that, and there is never a third act breakup of the two. I can't tell you how long it's been since I read a romance like it! Kitty starts out a tad over the top about her love of cats, but as you read about her and see her sincerity in just wanting to help people and animals, you can't help but love her.
I really enjoyed this book. It was really different from some of the other romances that I've absolutely loved by Helena Hunting, but it was different in the best way! I loved this, and thought it was just the perfect summer read.
Thanks to Forever Publishing for providing me with an ARC of this book!

This was a hilariously fun read. What do you expect when you put a cat loving woman with a dog loving man, possible chaos and cuddles? Kitty and Miles are an unlikely pair that just fit. Kitty is "The Kitty Whisperer," a cat training and sitter whom Miles is desperately in need of her assistance with his mother's misunderstood cat, Prince Francis.
The story deals with tough subjects in a carefully crafted manner. While showing us that life takes unexpected turns and you have to roll with it. The look at how social media can have an angry, manipulative underbelly is spot on.
Jump in with some toys to entertain the critters so you can have some reading solace.

A Love Catastrophe
I adored Miles & Kitty - each of their journeys, and their romance 🥰
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Synopsis:
Miles needs a cat-sitter for his mom’s cat, Prince Francis, while she’s in the hospital. He finds Kitty Hart, “The Kitty Whisperer,” an internet-famous expert on cats.
They are complete opposites, or so it seems, but as they get to know each other, they have more in common than they thought at their first (super awkward) meeting.
Both Kitty & Miles are dealing with loss and trauma from their past with their families, and they have many parallels in their stories.
“You think I’m handsome?”
“The compliment has already been given; no need to fish for more.”
Review:
This book is so much more than a romcom. The romance is almost a side story to the rest, though it’s still amazing. I was laughing out loud often, but also felt super emotional. There were definitely some much heavier topics covered - loss of a family member, supporting a parent with dementia, the negative side of social media - but they were handled incredibly well in my opinion.
Their banter is great, especially Kitty - she’s super witty and hilarious. I think “bingo button” is my favourite term I’ve ever heard 😂
My fav line: “I wish I could pluck that sentence out of your ears and shove it back into my word hole.”
I was a little worried going in, since I’m not really a cat person (I don’t dislike them, I just prefer dogs). While there are a lot of cats in this book, and cat puns, I loved it.
“Sometimes, we had to let go of the past to make room for a brighter future.”

This book has such a unique storyline with a very quirky cast. Kitty, the heroine of the story, is accident prone and a little quirky but she's self aware and comfortable with who she is and I love that about her. Enter a quirky cat and a reluctant cat owner and it becomes the perfect story of loss, love, and the families, friends, and support systems we have around us. While I'm not much of an animal person myself I understand other's love for their furry family. This book is perfect for any pet lover or anyone who has struggled with loss and found comfort in their families (furry and human alike). This book was full of fun and laugh out loud moments. You will have a good time reading about Kitty and her feline family!

Miles Thorn is in a major pickle: he needs a cat sitter ASAP. His mom is in the hospital and he works as a team analyst for an NHL team and traveling is part of his job. He is definitely a dog person and he has no idea of what to do with Prince Francis, his mother's mischievous Sphinx.
Enter Kitty Hart, "The Kitty Whisperer". Yup, she only realized her innuendo-inducing choice of name after her business (and brand) had already taken off and she had been established as "the" cat whisperer/sitter/trainer. She is even some sort of personality amongst the animal lovers world. She loves all felines and she decides to check if Miles is a potential new client. After a most embarrassing meet cute (for both), she takes Prince Francis into her roster. Allergy flare-ups, cat hijinks, and a lot of "verbal vomiting" and soon we can see they are made for each other! If only Prince Francis will allow it...
This was a fun and cute book! It's low on the steam level but high on the sweet moments. Thought it is definitely a very funny book, it still deals with heavy subjects such as grief and dealing with an ailing parent. It's all dealt with a light touch and a lot of respect.
It's a feel-good book, perfect for a lazy summer afternoon when all you want is a smile on your face.
Possible triggers: death of a parent (historical), dealing with a parent with early onset dementia.
Thank you, Helena Hunting, Forever Publishing and NetGalley for the advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Cute, fun and totally different!
Kitty Hart, the Kitty Whisperer loves cats and has made a career and a living in taking care and training other people’s cats who don’t have the time or knowledge for it.
Miles Thorn needs a cat sitter to take care of his mother’s cat Prince Francis while she’s in the hospital because he travels with the hockey team as a data analyst and he isn’t a cat person.
A Love Catastrophe is so much more than an opposites attract because you have a cat with a unique personality and dealing with dementia and the loss of family members and not dealing with grief.

4-4.5 Stars. This was my first book by Helena Hunting and I really liked it! Kitty (the Kitty Whisperer on social media) is a cat sitter and trainer, and Miles reaches out to her in desperation as his mother is in the hospital and needs someone to watch her (evil demon) cat. This book delicately balances very hilarious moments with very emotional ones (including grief, loss, and a parent with dementia). To me, this book just felt very real – I could see myself in both characters and understood the conflicts they felt balancing their pasts, their futures, and their family members caught in between. I devoured it in one sitting and really enjoyed it.
Thank you Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central) for the eARC

Kitty the cat whisperer comforts more than just cats in this romancitc comedy. Miles needs help with his mom's cat. Who better to call than Kitty the cat whisperer? Kitty owns and runs a cat sitting business. Despite Miles distain for his mom's cat, he and Kitty form a bond after many "foot in the mouth" moments. With some awkward moments, sad moments, and frustrating moments Kitty and Miles help each other through some hard times. Purrfect for any animal lover and lovers of romance!

Thank you, Helena Hunting, Forever, and Netgalley, for the gifted eARC.
Miles Thorn needs a cat sitter for his mom's cat, Prince Francis. Prince Francis is a sphinx who loves attention and likes to cause mischief. So, Miles seeks the help of Kitty Hart. She's known on the internet as the Kitty Whisperer. When Miles and Kitty first meet, it's obvious they are complete opposites, but Miles really needs help with his mother's cat. Over time, Miles and Kitty develop a friendship that turns into attraction. Will they find their happy ending together?
I'm usually a huge fan of Helena Hunting books, but this one just didn't work for me. Kitty Hart was one of the most annoying protagonists with her constant cat lingo and puns. Not to mention her complete obsession with cats and her hatred of people who are not cat lovers or who are dog lovers. Her entire character was just very off-putting. As the book progressed, her attitude improved, but at the beginning of the book, it made me want to stop reading. The plot also wasn't that interesting to me. There were some heartfelt moments in there, but nothing really stood out about the plot. Kitty and Miles were also very two forgettable characters. I really didn't connect to either of them. Unfortunately, this book just didn't work for me.

tropes include a disastrous meet-cute, opposites attract, sunshine meets the grump, and friends to lovers! The FMC and MMC couldn't be more opposite and Helena does a wonderful job of crafting their love story and their romance. This isn't a FAVORITE of mine, but you really can't go wrong with a Helena book.

Miles has his hands full with a new job as a data analyst for an NHL team, his mother in the hospital, and the care of his mother's temperamental grumpy gremlin sphinx cat. He hires the Kitty Whisperer, Kitty Hart, to cat sit while he's out of town. But the two get off on the wrong foot when Miles'general dislike of her favorite animals is apparent, but the more time they spend together she realizes she misjudged him and becomes more and more attracted to him. Can a relationship between a cat lady and a dog lover ever work?
This was a cute story, not my favorite by this author, but I still enjoyed it. Some of the"cat language" felt strange and awkward even though it fits Kitty's personality. I like how supportive she was of the issues Miles is going through and then how sensitive he was with her when her business was in crisis. Overall a pretty good book.

I tried this one but couldn’t get into it. I feel like it’s almost exclusively for cat people and I’m not one of them.

What a cute story that fully involves some furry four legged friends! I love a good romance story that involves animals and this one if packed full of that. I enjoyed the steamy details as well as the happy times celebrated between the two. I also enjoyed how there was a very real element of grief and that it showcased how people grieve in different but similar ways and that no matter how long it’s been, people can move on. It’s definitely not a super sad book by any means, but dealing with past loved ones is a part so trigger warning there if needed.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I thoroughly enjoyed A Love Catastrophe! Although a dog lover myself, I enjoyed this fun and unique story that is heavy on the laughs but packs quite a punch to the feels.

This story started out on a bit of slapstick and punny note when our main characters, Miles and Kitty meet for the first time. Because his mother is in the hospital undergoing tests, Miles is looking for someone to take care of her cat during the day. He and the cat, Prince Francis, don't really get along (maybe because he owns a Great Dane) so he calls on Kitty, the cat whisperer to hopefully calm some of his distructive ways. They get off on the wrong foot when he "demeans" the cat in front of her, and then ends up knocking her over. She reluctantly takes him on as a client when his mother's mental health issues are more serious than he originally thought. As she learns more about his life growing up, Kitty realizes they share a lot more in common than she originally thought. Kitty probably said it best when she admits, "...I'm stuck in the past and too afraid of the future to live in the present." I loved how they supported one another selflessly as both fought to overcome the guilty ghosts from the past so they can toward their happily ever after.

As a huge animal lover, I fell in love with this story. It follows Kitty, the cat whisperer, and Miles, the NHL data analyst. Kitty has a cat watching and training business where she stays busy. Miles is new to his position but loves everything hockey. He needs some cat watching service when his mom goes into the hospital and he is unable to care for her cat. From there, there are lots of awkward and embarrass moments as these two are clearly attracted to each other but definitely suffer from goat in mouth syndrome. They finally figure things out and it’s a happily ever after.

3 stars
I've read almost everything Helena Hunting has written, so I was excited to read this one too, and I jumped in blind!
This book started off sort of strong... for the first 7 pages. And then the kitty/cat/catastrophe jokes just kept rolling in, and it got old very quickly. The number of times that we talked about cats licking themselves and then their owner's faces... was too many times. I'm a dog person. I love my dog. I let my dog give me kisses. But something about it being described over and over again in a story just wasn't doing it for me (once is funny, twice or more is immature in my opinion).
I enjoyed parts of this story a whole lot, and there were other parts that just made me cringe. They didn't REALLY balance out, but the overall themes of the story were great. This story is about two very quirky people who have both "lost" a parent and are going through different parts of the grieving process. Throw in some social media influencing, some quirky friends, a little hockey tie in (from Hunting I shouldn't have expected anything else), and lots of cats.
This is a strangers-to-friends-to-lovers story perfect for a beach read - it only took me about 2.5 hours to read - with some heavier themes but LOTS of light moments in the mix. I expect to see a sequel about Hattie and Josh, and potentially this is a starting point for another hockey series, as the younger guys on the hockey team that Miles works for are pretty key characters outside of the main two characters.
Overall, I enjoyed it. I liked it. It wasn't love, and I won't be needing to re-read it.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. These are my honest thoughts.

A Love Catastrophe by Helena Hunting is a contemporary romcom featuring cats and hockey. We alternate between the perspectives of our two main characters.
Kitty Hart is social-media-famous thanks to her cat-sitting business, Kitty Whisperer. When Miles Thorn needs someone to look after his ailing mother's cat for the near future, he becomes her newest client. But he doesn't like cats--even his mother's mischievous Sphynx cat, Prince Francis--whom he considers a "gremlin." Their first face-to-face meeting does not go as planned.
This was a pretty pleasant and quick read. If you like your heroines quick-witted and funny, you'll like Kitty. She's prone to logorrhea (word vomit, nervous talkativeness) and I felt fairly seen here as I am an awkward turtle who is often introverted. However, she feels like she's written a little too young for her age.
This was my first book by the author, but she also write hockey romances. I'm guessing those feature hockey players; this one features a data analyst/strategist for a NHL team.
The main couple get together a little too quickly here. They have a meet-disaster initially, and then must work together to take care of Prince Francis the Sphynx. They have some trauma-bonding as they discuss various deaths in their families in the preceding years that they still haven't moved on from. There's a dash of fake dating for a hot minute before they're actively intertwined.
I was glad to see there was no third-act breakup in this book, as that's one of my least favorite tropes. There's a different misunderstanding, outside of their relationship, that I feel was wrapped up a bit too quickly with a bow.
All-in-all, if you are a fan of cats and kitschy stuff, you'll probably enjoy this book!
Tropes in this book include: grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract, forced proximity, friends to lovers, sports (hockey), open door romance
CW: grief, parent death (prior to book, mentioned), dementia, death of child (prior to book, mentioned), cyber bullying
