I havent been into cutesy romcom books lately but this one was perfect! I love the idea of a cat-sitter. cats are so independent at baseline and dont necessarily need a sitter but ANYWAY. I love the grumpy /happy combo of the characters. Cute read!

Helena Hunting is one of those romance authors that can absolutely do no wrong for me - even when she has cat loving main characters (I kid, I kid) - this was another absolute winner from her!

I always love Helena Hunting’s books and this was no exception! Great quirky characters and a fun story.

I love cats and I love a lot of work from Helena but this was too cheesy for me. Sorry! I wish I liked it more.

Thank you Forever publishers and Netgalley for an E-ARC of this novel in exchange for a honest review.
As of the writing of this review (March 2024), I've only ever read one other Helena Hunting book. Kiss My Cupcake back in December 2020 got a 4 star rating from me. Ironically almost exactly 3 years later in December 2023, I attempted to read A Love Catastrophe.
If you're okay with excessive use of Cat/Kitty vocabulary, you could likely withstand this novel more than I can. What threw this novel into a DNF category for me was mainly the amount of ties to a cat or kitty-ism vocabulary. There were the many puns. Humans being named "Cat" and "Kitty". The stereotypical dog person that doesn't understand cats. The overtly obsessed stereotypical cat lady. The fact that we would flip flop between serious mom drama and cat puns in the same scene made zero sense of cohesion to me.

Such a fun book! Cute love story with plenty of laughs, and plenty of spice! And of course, lots of talk about cats:) this was a fun, easy read that I really enjoyed! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

I just binged this audiobook in one day. Not being a cat lover, I thought I would have DNF'd it within the first few minutes. I am so glad I didn't because I absolutely loved it. The fmc is such a delight. Her love for cats and life is infectious. This is also not your typical hockey romance because Miles, the mmc isn't a player but a behind the scenes asset to the team.
I felt all the emotions with this one. It made me laugh and cry at times. There are some sensitive topics that are dealt with.
Also, thank you to netgalley and forever pub for an advance copy that I didn't get to before the pub date.

I just could not really get into this one unfortunately. I really wanted to enjoy it but maybe I was just in the wrong mood for it.

I am sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t have the time to read this anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.

This is in line with the rest of Helena Hunting's traditional published novels. Low steam, cute, fun, and very light plot line for the most part, even tough they connect through loss. It is a novel to pick up for entertainment, heartfelt moments, and quirky heroines. This one definitely has more of her signature humor (think Violet or even Lavendar-esque).

This is a quirky enemies-to-lovers novel. Miles is begrudgingly taking care of his mom's cat while she is moved to an assisted living facility. Kitty has been regularly helping out with the car through her internet-famous business. She's known as the Kitty Whisperer. He hates cats. Match made in heaven, right?!
It was fun to see these two interact when they so decidedly had different views of the feline species. Not only that, Miles is so tight-laced while Kitty is free-spirited and fun. Their interactions definitely had me smiling, even though it felt a bit over the top at times. There is a definite cheesiness aspect to the book, so if that's not for you, you may want to pass this one buy. If you, however, are a huge lover of cats and romance, you will adore this book and should add it to your TBR right away.

Unfortunately this book was not for me. It may not help that I'm a dog person but the cat and kitty-isms really became too much after a while. Miles TACKLES Kitty during their first time meeting because he thought she pulled out a real gun to shoot his grandma's cat; it was a water gun. I guess that was supposed to be funny but it was just a little ridiculous to me. The sex scene was pretty cringe with Kitty's inner dialogue referring to her "bingo button." Overall just not an enjoyable story but it may be more appealing to cat lovers.
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for providing me a digital reviewer copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Thank you Forever and NetGalley for the eARC of A Love Catastrophe. All opinions in this review are my own.
Helena Hunting is a hit or miss author for me and unfortunately this one was a miss. The main characters just seemed too stereotypical. Miles is a dog owner that cannot understand how anyone could love cats while Kitty meows when she talks.

Helena Hunting is a hit or miss for me and I think this one was a miss. Mostly because I can't get behind the female main character. It feels kinda like she's making fun of people who like cats but also. So many cats. Hunting does push the envelope with her writing and I enjoy that. So you might enjoy it. But maybe not. It feels incredibly niche and I am not a part of that group. I still want to read all of her books though.

Any book about romance and cats is an automatic 5-star read for me! I enjoyed this book a lot. I have read a couple of other of Helena Hunting's books, and I would have to say that so far, I've enjoyed this one the most! I feel like this book would also make a really cute movie, and if you love Hallmark and romance movies, this book is for you! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me access to this book in exchange of my honest review!

This book was a cute rom-com and a quick read. For me it was maybe a little over the top and wrapped up too neatly, but entertaining.

A grumpy/sunshine trope that has cats as characters as well... yes, please. I loved this one. Kitty and Miles were great together. I enjoyed their budding relationship that came with some heavy life stuff, i.e. dementia sprinkled in. Prince Francis as a character was exceptional and important to the story. I think this was my first Helena Hunting book and I plan to seek out others!

Kitty Hart has become internet famous as the Kitty Whisperer for her expertise on all things feline, and as a result, her cat-sitting business is booming. But lately, she has a terrible feeling that maybe her life isn’t quite going where it’s supposed to—especially after falling face-first into her newest client. Not exactly the best first impression.
Fortunately, Miles Thorn is just as bad at first impressions. Strike one: he doesn’t like cats, especially Prince Francis, the haughty and mischievous Sphynx his mom left in his care. Strike two: tackling Kitty to the floor in a misguided attempt to save the pet he continually calls “the gremlin.”
As awkwardness slides into attraction and things start to turn purr-sonal, will these two complete opposites ever be able to find their furry-tail ending?

I requested this title on NetGalley on a whim knowing only there was some kind of hockey connection to the plot. I'd never read Helena Hunting before so I didn't really know what to expect, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised with this cute little rom-com.
Told in dual POVs, both Kitty and Miles are thoughtful, independent, and emotionally mature protagonists, not without their own insecurities. I loved Kitty's playful energy, her awkwardness and her passion for her job. I also enjoyed getting an inside look into Miles job as a data analyst for an NHL team. The cat lover versus dog lover (opposites attract) trope was well utilized. Yes, there are a lot of cat puns, yet I really didn't mind. The author had me laughing out loud at times with some of the situations the characters got themselves into. It showed neither of them is perfect, which just felt s0 relatable.
Beyond the budding romance, there is depth to the plot as it explores childhood trauma and grief, dementia, and cyberbullying. With this added depth, their relationship development felt authentic and refreshing. I was emotionally invested and interested in their story from the very start.
A Love Catastrophe just had an overall feel-good vibe, while combining so many elements I love. It was exactly the type of lighthearted and fun read I was looking for when I picked it up. I will definitely be checking out more of Helena Hunting's backlist, while also keeping an eye out for anything new.

"Sometimes we keep our pain to ourselves because it’s too hard to share."

This was a sweet, feel good romance. I would say it was more of a 3.5 star read for me. I mostly enjoyed reading about Kitty and Miles relationship. There were some laugh out loud parts and some serious moments throughout. I love Helena Hunting’s books and found that this one was not one of her stronger books. The cat theme throughout this one got to be a bit much for me and I felt like I was being bombarded with cat jokes and puns constantly.

It was not my favourite by Helena Hunting.
I think it was too centred on cats and that bothered me. I’m not a cat person and some of the scenes annoyed me because of them.
Sorry it was just not for me.
