A Love Catastrophe
Helena Hunting
Pub Date: June 13, 2023 🗓️
A Love Catastrophe by Helena Hunting was so cute, funny, and heartwarming! The story focuses on Kitty, a well-known cat whisperer, and Miles, a data analyst for a local NHL team. The two meet when Miles hires Kitty to care for his moms cat, Prince Francis. Miles is NOT a cat lover, and the first meeting between the two does not go smoothly. Can a dog lover and a cat lover coexist? This was such a great opposites attract book! I thought this book was so cute and I loved how the author included loss and guilt as a commonality between both characters.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an E-Arc copy of this novel. Snarky, sexy, and sweet this is a romance you must check out!

I am usually a huge Helena Hunting fan. She is one of my go-to authors for all things romance.
This book started out strong with great banters between the M/F leads. The unique characters and meet-cutes are one of the things I love about Hunting's book. Unfortunately, the middle parts of the book really dragged on for me, so the book felt longer than it should.
I would still recommend it but it's an outlier of a Helena Hunting book for me.

If you're looking for a cute, sweet and funny romantic comedy with some feline friends thrown in, then A Love Catastrophe is the book for you. This book tells the story of Kitty Hart, an internet-famous cat sitter known as the Kitty Whisperer, and Miles Thorn, a grumpy hockey nerd who needs someone to take care of his mom's cat while she is in the hospital.
The book is filled with hilarious and heartwarming moments as Kitty and Miles navigate their relationship, dealing with grief, family issues, social media pressure and falling in love. The chemistry between Kitty and Miles is fantastic, and their banter is both playful and steamy. The side characters, especially the cats, are also a delight to read about.
Helena Hunting's writing is as witty and humorous as ever, making this book an absolute page-turner. The story has substance and deals with some heavy themes, but it never loses its lightness and humor.
Overall, A Love Catastrophe is a feel-good romance that will make you laugh, cry and root for Kitty and Miles. Highly recommended for fans of romantic comedies, especially those who love cats.

This book was purrr-fection! I loved every single second. Kitty is such a hoot of a character and she had me dying so many times with her wit and personality; she was written so well that she truly feels like someone I know now. I have such a weak spot for Miles. He’s the embodiment of a man written by a woman and his story broke my heart so many times.
The writing in this book was phenomenal. There was some parts so hilarious that I was laughing out loud, other sentences so powerful it made me pause, and even parts that made me bawl my eyes out. Helena Hunting is a master with words and making her audience feel a wide-range of emotions while reading her books.
This was a very smooth and enjoyable read; there was no rush or third act break up. This book gave me all the heart-eyes and butterflies and will definitely be a hit. I’m incredibly lucky to have gotten to read this early.

I truly wanted to love this story badly, especially because I am such a cat lady, but this is not one of my favorite reads.
The premise is cute, with Kitty, our FMC, being a social media influencer with a business called the Kitty Whisperer and Miles, the MMC, is a client due to his mom's cat needing care. I thought the side characters were great, I loved the names of the animals (I mean a Sphinx cat named Prince Francis? YES), and I did think the characters were wonderful as well, but not with the storyline and how heavy this book is, which I was not expecting.
The book deals with heavy topics, such as early onset dementia, parent loss, and loss of a sibling. This is one of the main ways the main characters relate to one another and grow a deeper bond. But they talk about these issues repeatedly, and in depth, for many pages. As a result, I felt it really impacted their chemistry because it was if they were helping each other through their grief and they found someone they could relate to and decided to try a relationship. I just didn't buy their relationship and wasn't invested. And, as a romance, that is one of the main things I am looking for in this genre.
Additionally, I found some of the situations that the main characters found themselves in to be a bit over the top. Kitty is meant to be quirky and awkward, and that's how the author prefers to write her characters. However, there are so many situations where the "quirkiness" is a plot device. While I am fine with this if done sparingly, this is one of the only ways the author pushes the plot, and, as a result, it becomes repetitive. There are only so many awkward situations one can find themselves in before it becomes overdone.
I will say that all the things I found difficult for me could be positive for some. Those who are looking for more internal connections based on heavy communication in their romance would enjoy this book. Those that want heavier topics in their books would be another group. They could also really enjoy books with characters who are not perfect or who are not as socially aware, preferring a more realistic main character. I believe those are the people who would really find this book entertaining and enjoyable.
Overall, this was not the book for me, However, if you like quirky FMC and deeper romances, this is the book for you.
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever Publishing for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

First things first, I might not be exactly the target audience. I feel like this one might be a 5 star read if you’re a cat person.
Me however…I’m not sure if I’ve ever related to a MMC so much.
Miles is a dog person, like me, but he’s had the care for his ailing mother’s weird hairless cat suddenly dumped into his lap. He enlists the services of Kitty, cat sitter and trainer. I didn’t even realize professional cat trainers were a thing?
Anyway, after one of the most painful meet uglies, she learns how much a cat person is *isn’t* and he finds out that she isn’t just a cat person, she’s a ✨😻 Cat Person 😻✨
Trust me, there is A Difference.
This one is a slightly slow burn, but definitely gets some heat. There’s good humor, even if it is heavy on the cat puns. There’s a reason I think this will be much bigger with people who love cats, but even as a self-avowed dog person I still found enough to keep entertained. I wouldn’t have minded a little more hockey content too though, there’s much more of Kitty’s job than there is about Miles’
There’s also some heavier content - the MMC has a parent suffering from dementia, also the family is still dealing with the loss of his brother when he was a child. The FMC is still heavily affected with the loss of her father years ago, and it has heavily impacted her family. Basically there is a hearty dose of survivors guilt all around, and I think some mental health rep in the form of therapy would have gone a long way.
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever Pub for the ARC!

A purrfect love story! I loved this light hearted fun kitty cat romp! But it doesn’t totally ignore dog lovers. This is a cute, easy to read book thats just the thing to brighten your day. Add it to your tbr pile-you’ll be glad you did!

Thank you to NetGalley and Forever for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
So I will preface this by saying that I am not a cat lover at all and I have an anaphylactic allergy to them haha. So I just will never understand cat people. BUT I have read a lot of Helena Huntings books and this story was different than the others. I liked how in this story the characters bonded through their grief and loss. That made the story a lot deeper than a cat whisper that made too many cat puns.
I really appreciated the writing around how people can push grief to the side and carry on through life even though it will always come up to the surface again. The part of the story with Miles’ mother in the home where Kitty suggests to bring items from home to make it familiar and the conversation that ensues between Miles and his mother made me tear up. So one one hand I didn’t enjoy all of the cat stuff but on the other it was a really sweet love story around people coming into your life when you need them to help you heal. So I will give it a 3.5 for too much cat plot but will round to a 4 for the deep issues the plot deals with and the love story that grows from it.

Kitty Hart is an internet influencer known as the Kitty Whisperer. Her cat sitting business is booming but her personal life is stalled. Miles is an analyst for the NHL and in need of a cat sitter for his mother's sphinx cat while she is in the hospital. He sees videos of the Kitty Whisperer and decides to hire her for her cat companion services. Can a cat lover and dog lover move from enemies to friends or something more?
Kitty is the definition of "quirky." Cats are her entire personality from clothes down to the cat themed puns and sayings like "oh my catness" and "holy meow." Her best friend is named Kat and owns a cat cafe. *Insert eyeroll.* These traits didn't endear me to her, instead I found them annoying. I liked Mile's character. I think he had an interesting job and I always love when hockey is included in romances. I thought the "meet cute" was so funny and set the book off to a great start. I wish we could have seen more of the secondary characters and hope they could be future books.
I tend to like my romance have not so many true to life heavy scenarios. Both main characters are dealing (or not dealing) with grief in their own ways. I was kind of caught off guard by how many heavy topics were addressed. I've read two other of Helena Hunting's books and they were both four star reads. Even though I'm a cat lover, I think this just may the case of the wrong book for this reader.
2.5 Stars rounded to 3

I love this Author and I enjoyed this book! I enjoyed the cat puns that were included, definitely a highlight. Although some parts of the book fell flat for me, I still did enjoy reading this book.

📚✨Book Review✨📚
A Love Catastrophe
Author: Helena Hunting
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Note:
I received a copy of this book as an advanced reader but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
What I Liked:
🐈 Animal lovers rejoice because this book is packed full of them. From Prince Francis, the stubborn sphinx cat, to Wilfred the Great Dane, and even a baby raccoon, every animal in this book tempted me to run out and get a pet of my own!
🐈Many times we read books about hockey players so it was a delightful change to read one about an analyst. Yes, hockey players make an appearance and hopefully they’ll pop up again in future books, but it was a fun change.
🐈Miles and Kitty both have so much hurt in their past. This book will really resonate with anyone who needs help healing from similar things just like they do. It was heavier than I expected but that didn’t take away…only added to the story.
What I Didn’t Like:
🐈This book wasn’t as spicy as I would expect from Helena Hunting. I do think it was the right balance for this particular story though.
Final Thoughts:
🐈Helena Hunting is one of my favorite authors ever. She crafts beautiful stories that range from heartfelt to blistering infernos. Can’t wait to see what she does next. (Also hoping for another book featuring Kitty’s sister!)

I hands down love Helena's books but this one was not for me. I really, really tried. I was looking for a fun book that would make me laugh but this just fell flat. The characters were awkward and dry. There were a lot of cat puns that just fell flat in the humor department. I didn't' feel any connection at all to Kitty and Miles. I really was looking forward to this and hate that it just didn't work for me.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
I had a bit of a love/hate reading adventure with this book. The cat puns? OMG...the cat puns. WAY over the top. Do cat people like that kind of thing? Ick. Not for me. Too cheesy, tried to hard, all of that. However, the story itself was sweet, and the characters were likable. Not sure I've read much from Helena Hunting before, but perhaps I was not the best audience for this book. Hoping some die hard cat lovers/romance readers find it and love it.

Kitty owns a business called the Kitty Whisperer. She cat sits and does training, and she’s very good at what she does. Her online presence is huge, and she has sponsors for her content. She is contacted by Miles to help with his mother’s cat. Their first meeting is not what was expected (or the second). Miles has to overcome several obstacles in order to help his mother, and be able to move forward in his career. Kitty has her own obstacles to work through, and Miles feels like a kindred spirit in several ways.
These two characters were exactly what I needed. There was the perfect amount of comedy within the story while still dealing with some serious issues. I truly hope we get more of both these characters as well as the side characters!!

As someone with a cat allergy, I just couldn't get behind this one. It was a cute read but I am just not the target audience for this story. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

A Love Catastrophe by
This was simply the perfect feel good contemporary romance novel. It was in its whole a sweet and charming history about two people falling in love…with lots of cat shenanigans 😅
The MC were funny and endearing especially Miles, who holds a special place on my heart. He was everything that's right in a guy. The relationship between him and Kitty felt real and sweet and adorable. Also the way the author chose to approach the topic of grieve was smart and sensitive I think.
The pacing was ok, it felt a little slow around the middle but it did not bother me much. My only issue really was the cover. The cover I do not love, other than that this is a perfect Sunday read to enjoy with a good cup of wine

A cute, lighthearted read that combines two of my favorite things…cats and ice hockey! Ok was slightly disappointed in the way the allergy was revealed in such a minor way considering it was a major part of the book but that’s minor. Overall, I enjoyed it.

This is a super cute romcom. I loved it and it honestly came into my life at the exact time I needed it (I love books that do that). I really enjoyed reading this book. I'm super glad that I got the chance to read it early and will definitely be recommending it to multiple people who enjoy these types of novels. I enjoyed the characters and especially enjoyed the writing by this author. I'm excited to see what the author comes out with next as I'll definitely be reading it! Thank you to the publisher for my early copy of this book!

Cat lover meets hockey player?!?!? Yes please! Grumpy sunshine trope done so well! I loved this cozy romance, especially on a rainy day :)
