I highly recommend this one for fans of the grump/sunshine trope!
Kitty Hart is a lover of all things feline and has made a name for herself as the cat whisperer. With her cat-sitting business booming, Kitty takes on a new client who she quite literally falls into upon their first meeting. Way to make a great first impression. It turns out this handsome client couldn’t be more different from Kitty, but that doesn’t mean the chemistry isn’t palpable from the beginning.
Miles Thorn, a data analyst for an NHL team, just needs someone to take care of his mother’s gremlin (ahem, cat) while she’s in the hospital and he’s away with the hockey team. Never did he think he’d start to fall for the cat-obsessed Kitty.
I loved how genuine the relationship between Kitty and Miles felt. Both characters were well-developed and their experiences with grief and loss were handled delicately. This is a sweet, swoon-worthy romance that I will for sure come back to!

super back and forth on this book.
multiple times I was leaning to dnf but I am glad I persevered. Cats aren't really my thing so I was struggling to really enjoy the book at the beginning as it was heavily pushing the opposites and emphasizing the cat/dog lovers. it is very much enemies/opposites attract (cat/dog). I loved the romance. Miles and Kitty we're both so sweet and enjoyable. I also loved the layers of the story-- loss, change, work/stress/careers, and illness. I did feel like the romance was a bit quick moving/abrupt but at the same time I'm not sure how it could've been stretched out longer.
Personally falls somewhere between 3-4 stars for me but closer to 3. <br />

A Love Cat-astrophe is a super sweet, sometimes awkward story about finding your person. Even the worst first impression can lead to your happily ever after. And the person you least expect will help you move on from the past that’s been holding you back.
Kitty & Miles are the first couple we get to meet but I’m hoping we will get a couple of other stories out of this friend group 🥰
Caution😉 there are some laugh out loud moments at Prince Francis’ expense 😅
💕fave quotes📖
“He looks like a shaved ba11 sack with eyes,” Miles mutters. My head whips around. “What a terrible thing to say! He’s beautiful.” He gives me a disbelieving look. “He looks like one of those house elf things from Harry Potter in cat form.”🤪😂
Talking to Miles was easier before my hormones took over and made me stupid.—-☺️
“Sometimes, we have to let go of the past to make room for a brighter future.”😢
This novel is sweet, funny, touching and easy to read.
Helena Hunting begins her story with a chaotic encounter between a grumpy and a sunshine. Both are clumsy and honest. Slowly they come closer as friends by confiding and helping each other. The attraction is quickly present and they fall in love naturally.
So we have a mix of great tropes.
Kitty, our heroine, takes care of people's cats, she created her company and she is present on social networks. She is an extraordinary woman who prefers the company of cats to that of their humans. Miles, data analyst for the NHL, hires her to take care of his mom's cat. Miles hates cats, especially his mom's gremlin. So from the start, our protagonists are not made for each other. Which creates funny and sparkling situations and conversations. Not to mention that both are clumsy in gestures and words. I love how Helena Hunting creates characters that are colorful and moving, flawed and lovable. She also has fun inventing puns on the theme of cats to make us laugh.
Kitty and Miles get to know each other better and share their sorrows and burdens. They help each other recognize their wounds and move on with their lives.
This book deals with different themes such as mourning, old age with its memory problems, family, the disadvantages of social networks...
The author presents a sincere and authentic love story between two wounded but strong characters, two characters adorable that we would like to know. The twists are not what we are used to, which is refreshing. Kitty and Miles love each other and get along wonderfully well, they form a very beautiful couple.
In short, I loved this novel and I recommend it wholeheartedly!
This is a light read that will make you smile. I’m a huge cat lover and while there were a ton of puns the fact that they aren’t many cats in romance it was easy to overlook.
A sweet romance when you need a little cheese.
This book was hilarious and charming. Lighthearted, funny moments that have you giggle-snorting. It's an easy read, great for a reading slump. This book has the cutest chapter titles. All around a feel good feeling.
Read if you like:
cat puns
hockey references
A pet lover
friends to lovers
opposites attract
quirky female main character that is so lovable
There are some heavy topics weaved in such as family loss, grief, cyber bullying but all handled in a lighthearted way.
Spice level: 2-3 ish
“Change is never easy, but without it we can't move forward.”

DNF at chapter 7 (23%)
I tried with this one, I really did, I just cannot go on with it. The cat puns are way too much.
I like cats, just not in the way the fmc does where it is her entire personality. The author even has her saying phrases like 'excuse meow' and 'oh my catness'. It’s not cute and it’s taking me right out of the story. Also her name is Kitty, she’s a cat sitter and she has a bff named Kat who owns a cat cafe. Seriously? That’s too much for me.
I thought that a few chapters in the plethora of cat stuff would die down, but no, still going strong by chapter 7. So DNF for me, which is too bad because I actually did like the idea of the story, the author just took it too far.
I am a huge cat lover and therefore it seems like it would be the target audience for this book. I just could not get into it and it was a struggle to finish it. It was so cheesy, awkward and so forced. The amount of cat puns was… excessive.
4.5 Stars Helena Hunting is an auto-read/auto-buy author for me and I was so excited to get this ARC from Netgalley! She's known for her Pucked and Spark House series, but her standalones are just as great, and A Love Catastrophe is no exception.
Kitty Hart is a cat sitter who has become semi-famous on social media for her business, the Kitty Whisperer. Even though business is going better than ever, Kitty feels stuck, especially since she's still living at home with her mother and sister and their home hasn't changed at all in the decade since her father passed away. Everything begins to change after she falls face-first into her new client, Miles Thorn. Miles has hired Kitty to watch after his mother's Sphynx, Prince Francis, while she's being treated in the hospital. Their first few meetings are disastrous, but Kitty later realizes that she misjudged Miles. Even though they seem to be complete opposites, their attraction is strong and they begin to build a friendship.
Ultimately, the story is about learning to accept change despite the fear of it. I loved the main characters and how they were able to build a genuine friendship first based on mutual understanding of the experience of grief. Both have faced loss in similar ways and are able to offer just the right support for the other person. In addition to being heartfelt, this was also hilarious, especially all of the kitty hijinx and Kitty's general adorableness. Highly recommend this one!
I really like Helena Hunting, cats, and puns, so I was very excited going into this book! It was a very sweet and humorous romance with some more serious themes making it feel real and relatable.
Kitty, a professional cat sitter, has been hired by Miles to look after his mother's cat, Prince Francis. The first time meeting between Kitty and Miles does not go well, and things are made worse when Kitty realizes that he is a cat hater. Despite this rocky start, and many awkward moments, Kitty and Miles, their friendship and relationship grow and they share and help each other process past traumas and current hardships. I found the build up to the relationship slow at times, but it was very sweet and worth the wait!
The animals and cat puns were one of my favourite part of the book. I loved that the book didn't play into the "crazy' cat lady stereotype, it was about a young women running her own business, which happens to help people take care of the pets they love so much.
I recommend looking up TW prior to picking this book up, but know that all were addressed with care.
Thank you to Forever Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was the cats meow!!! It was so adorable and Kitty Hart is so fun! This had laugh out loud scene and way too real scenes with the cats. I love how Kitty and Miles fall in love. They are such a beautiful couple that are dealing with all the things that life throws at them including dealing with grief, parents with dementia, rising social media fame and pressure.
Miles is a perfect book boyfriend, hot nerdy attentive, loves dogs. I loved reading how Kitty comes into her own, trusting herself with her business, letting go of her guilty of her fathers death, her relationship with her mom.
This was such a feel good romance with bonus cats!!!
Thank you to Helena Hunting, Forever, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Can I take a second to admire the cover? The colors pop and instantly caught my eye.
Unfortunately, I wasn't a big fan of this book. I don't know why, I just couldn't get into it. I felt like there was nothing there between Kitty and Miles. And the whole "bingo-button (IYKYK) just irked me.
Ok, this book is incredibly narrowed in niche. BUT, if corny, cat-obsessed, quirky/awkward characters are your niche, you will adore this book. Hunting delivers laugh out loud ironic humor in the opening chapter when grumpy data analyst, Miles, stumbles upon Kitty, the Cat Whisperer’s webpage. He needs someone to assist with his mother’s cat, Prince Francis, after she is hospitalized for dementia. Kitty’s entire identity revolves around her obsession for cats; her clothing, her career, even her vehicle! After a cringe worthy meet-disaster between Miles and Kitty, she accepts the cat sitting job but is completely turned off by Miles’ treatment of cats. However, fate and shared past traumas, eventually forge a bridge between these polar opposites into an endearing and spicy romance.
As a cat owner myself, I found the characterizations of Kitty and Prince Francis to be hilarious. I also connected with Kitty and Miles’ social awkwardness and family burdens so I was happy to cheer them on town their HEA. However, I can understand how the humor and corniness might be a turn off for other readers.

I had to DNF at 16% into this book. I've read other books by this author and enjoyed them so I was excited for this book but it just was not good. I stopped at chapter 5 (for perspective) and while that seems super early on in a book to stop reading I couldn't take any more of it. I couldn't stand Kitty. She was a supremely annoying and judgmental character for no reason. Aside from the ridiculous excess of cat puns, she was so judgmental that the hero who is so unremarkable I can't even remember his name, doesn't like cats that she immediately paints him as a villain for no reason. I'm not a cat person so maybe this book just wasn't meant for me, but cats aren't nice. They are not my idea of a pet since they basically hate you at least 50% of the time. The hero was simply trying to take care of his mother's cat as best as he could and when a weird hairless cat insists on acting like the devil, it's reasonable to not enjoy having it for company. Kitty acts like nothing is more deplorable than disliking cats. Lady, if you think that's the worst thing a person could do then wake up to the realities of the world. She simply felt like a heroine from a romance written 10 years ago. She was excessively quirky, weirdly clumsy, and overly judgmental for no reason. Not to mention that there are hints of some family drama with the death of her father 10 years ago that her family insists on acting like happened a year ago instead. There were also a lot of overly specific details that seemed strangely placed in the book. Finally, Kitty refers to a few bad dates with a guy as being so traumatic that she can't even mention his name, and based on her description of what happened, it doesn't sound like more than a series of not great dates with two incompatible people. That is not my definition of trauma, and I frankly think it's a bit rude to people who do experience trauma to act like a couple bad dates are that traumatic.
Maybe if you're a cat lover this book would be fun for you, but I just felt like there were too many cat puns and things like that for it to be a good book.. I wouldn't recommend. Hopefully Hunting's next book is more my speed.
Helena Hunting is….was…an instant read author for me. Until now. I’m almost speechless as the wreck this book is. I guess catastrophe is right?! Is this whole book a joke? Like ironic funny? Is it raising money for an animal/cat charity? I’m not even trying to be mean I’m honestly confused as to why a best selling author would write something so flippant?! Or if it is sincere, wow. Just wow. 🤯
The amount of cat jokes, that are awful btw, cat references, etc. deeply take away from the romance. If you can even get past the weirdness, the main character has no real identity outside of cats and I swear even makes an awkward comment about one cat humping another cat within the first few pages. Gag. Also- the sex scenes are MORTIFYING.
I think the goal here was playful and quirky and cute and combined with some heavy topics like dementia, was supposed to be balanced, and realistic. But this seems to be a very niche romance and went too hard with the cat stuff to appeal to everyone. 2 ⭐️
Thank you NetGalley, and to the publisher for this arc, in exchange for my unbiased review.
Kitty and Miles get off to a rocky start. Miles' mother is showing signs of dementia and he's trying to look after her hairless cat, Prince Francis. While Miles is a dog lover he hires Kitty to look after Prince Francis. Kitty runs her own business, The Kitty Whisperer, and has a decent social media following because of it. The pair continue to clash but then things take a turn for the romantic.
Kitty and Miles were a cute couple and had quite a few ups and downs. I enjoyed the corny cat puns in the book but I could see it being annoying if you don't like anything too cutesy. There are some more steamy scenes in the book but nothing that was overly cringey, which is my biggest pet peeve with steamy scenes. I loved how the couple progressed as the book went on and they seemed very supportive of one another. There were some tangents that felt random and didn't quite seem to do much for the plotline but I had fun reading this new romance. I'd recommend and I'd read other books by this author as well.
Thank you to Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This is such a cute read with some heavy topics covered as well. I really enjoyed the characters backstories and their intertwining trauma from their pasts that they have held onto. Would have loved some more lighthearted scenes but overall a great read. TW for dementia and loss of a child.
4.5⭐️
This was adorable and funny. I hope you like yourself some definite cat puns, because there are plenty and they’re pawsitively awesome. It’s sweet but has some spice. The animals are entertaining. Would recommend.
You are REALLY going to have to love cat puns to fall in love with this book. The main character's name is Kitty. And she's all sunshine. Her love interest in grumpy Miles, a hockey data analyst. This has the usual romcom tropes: funny/misunderstanding of a meet cute, hijinks, etc. It also has deeper moments. There is a lot of grief to deal with here: death of family members, cyberbullying. And of course, there's sex. I am a fan of Helena Hunting, and although this isn't my favorite of her books, I think if you are a cat-lover looking for a mostly light read with some heavier emotional moments, this would be a good book for you.
