I loved this book!!! Helena Hunting has become a must-read author for me, and I am so happy to be able to read and review this ARC!
I loved Kitty and Miles’s development from reluctant acquaintances to sweet and tender friends and lovers. Both these characters, and their friends and family, are the kindest, goofiest, most lovable people. I especially love Hattie and Josh and would not be disappointed if their story was a sequel to this one.
I myself am and avid animal lover and cat advocate (catvocate, if you will) so Kitty’s whole personality is like a reflection of my soul. I also appreciated no third-act breakup because both Kitty and Miles are mature communicative people who won’t let silly things stand in the way of their love. The way Miles and Kitty bonded their love and friendship in mutual respect for the traumas they’ve suffered is so sweet and tearful to read.
I love love love this book and am looking forward to buying it when it releases.
Thank you for the ARC :)))

Thank you to Net Galley and Forever for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of A Love Catastrophe by Helena Hunting!

Anytime there is a cat involved in the storyline, my expectations are immediately set high - I get so excited. Add in the bonus of a hockey romance and Helena Hunting, and I am 10000% sold. Let me preface my review by saying I am a huge Helena Hunting fan. Sadly, this book was not a favorite for me.

Don’t get me wrong I loved Miles and Kitty as characters, and their story lines. I loved Kitty’s quirkiness and ability to be authentically herself. Miles and Kitty’s chemistry, banter, and enemies to lovers vibes hit all the marks. This was an easy and enjoyable read that I will definitely recommend, but it won’t go down as one of my favorites ever from Hunting.

2.5 ⭐️

Not gonna lie; this was rough. I really should have read the synopsis before requesting this ARC but honestly I love Helena Hunting so I didn't even bother. I've loved her other rom-coms published with this publisher (Kiss My Cupcake, Meet Cute, and The Good Luck Charm) so I had high hopes for this.

My biggest issue is it was just such a downer. When I pick up a rom-com I'm expecting a lighthearted feel good romance and I just really didn't get that from this. We are following Kitty who runs a cat sitting service and Miles who is looking for a cat sitter for his mom's cat. Miles' mom is in the hospital after being diagnosed with early on set dementia and he is having to deal with the diagnosis along with finding her a new place to live and revisiting his tragic childhood backstory. If this wasn't enough Kitty also has her own tragic backstory combined with a mom who has some issues herself. Not much room for anything happy or lighthearted to go on here...

Also I'm not a cat person - sue me. I really tried to overlook that part of the book because like I said it's completely my fault for not reading the synopsis but omg this girl's only interest was cats. There was so much time devoted to her talking to cats and I was getting bored. Not much really even happened in the whole first half of the book tbh. The end was pretty underwhelming as well and I finished the book wondering what the point was? There really was no clear plot line (which can be fine for me if the characters are super interesting and we're getting tons of interactions between them but we weren't). I also didn't feel any chemistry between them and the "spice" scenes left a lot to be desired (I think awkward can be cute but this was cringey-awkward not cute-awkward). This book also had a lot of focus on their lives individually and not so much on them growing/being together so their relationship seemed a bit rushed to me.

Idk I kept thinking maybe I was being too hard on this book but at the same time comparing this to "Little Lies" this feels like a completely different author. It just seemed like such a weird book. It's labelled a rom-com yet it's packed full of heavy topics and then you have Kitty (it took me so long to get past this name) and her best friend Kat...This took me RIGHT out of the story. I mean Kitty and Kat?? Really?

I wish I could say that I loved this but I can't.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

From page one this book is full of amazing cat puns, wacky awkward shenanigans and sweet romantic gestures. It is pure Helena Hunting greatness, it has everything I am looking for when I pick up one of her books, all wrapped up like a kitten that got into the yarn.

Kitty is awkward on par with Violet from Pucked. Absolutely no filter, which results in hysterical conversations and situations. I laughed out loud so many times!

Miles is straight laced but also has his own awkward streak. His stability balances out Kitty. I addition and involvement of the pets and other animals in this book are very fun. Each animal has their own personality that shines in the story, especially Prince Francis and Wilfred.

An A-meow-sing rom com that will have you laughing and swooning the whole time.

I received an arc of this book through Netgalley and voluntarily give my review.

We need more Helena Hunting romcoms to heal and nurture our souls! This sweet, swoon-worthy novel is a recipe of happiness, with a combination of the greatest tropes, including a disastrous meet-cute, opposites attract, sunshine meets the grump, and friends to lovers!

The sunshine is the good-hearted, cat-loving heroine, who is a devoted animal whisperer. Kitty Hart is a quirky, sweet, and unique web phenomenon with a cat-sitting business. Her path crosses with the grumpy, brooding, and stressed hero, Miles Thorn, a data analyst for the NHL who needs someone to take care of his mother's menacing cat while she is in the hospital. He hires Kitty after doing his web search, getting impressed by her skills, even though he doesn't believe she can connect with his mother's evil incarnation cat, which needs urgent exorcism.

Both of them couldn't be more different - one is an optimist, a smiling cat lover, and the other is a sulking, pessimistic dog lover. But their chemistry is evidently palpable. They start to share their sacred pasts and the burdens that hold them back from moving on with their lives. They deal with really triggering, sensitive subjects, including the loss of family members, grief, and cyberbullying.

I love their genuine, sincere, heartfelt love story. I'm so happy there's no third act break-up in this book. In other romances, it seemed like putting an unnecessary angsty argument between characters turned into a formula full of cliches. Thankfully, this book doesn't consist of this kind of disagreement!

Overall, this is an absolutely heartwarming, soft, quick read for romance fans that I sincerely recommend.

Special thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing/Forever for sharing this lovely book's digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Very character driven story, which may have led a little to be desired with the plot. But this was still an enjoyable read!

I absolutely loved this book. Anything Ms. Hunting's writes I have enjoyed reading. If you enjoyed her previous books you will definitely enjoy this one.

Kitty was a cat whisperer, that owned her own cat sitting service. Miles, a data collector for an NHL team, needed her services for his ailing mother's cat. The couple fell slowly in love between pets, moms and letting go of the past that held them hostage so to speak. What I loved was how amazing Miles and Kitty were together. Their chemistry was beautiful. And the grace they extended for each other in their time of need was beautiful. I'm hoping for a book with Josh and Kitty's sister (wishful thinking) soon.

Overall, I cannot express how wonderful this book was to read. I highly recommend it!!!

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Another great romcom by Helena Hunting!

Kitty has a cat sitting business, and Miles is in need of her services when his mom ends up in the hospital. Definitely wasn’t love at first sight for Kitty, with Miles coming across as a cat hater to a woman whose life revolves around cats! But that quickly changes as they get to know each other… through an ER visit, a pretend boyfriend situation at a bar, and heavier topics like helping each other through some childhood grief.

I always love when family and friends are strong supporting (and supportive) characters, and this book hit that mark! Great characters… and hoping for Hattie’s book next?

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Watch for A Love Catastrophe to come out June 13, 2023.

Thank you to NetGalley & Helena Hunting for an arc of A Love Catastrophe in an exchange for an honest review. This review is wholly my own and may not be reproduced.

Helena Hunting is an author who has been on my radar for a while, but this is actually my first read of hers. This was a perfect Valentine's read! I'm happy to say that I will definitely be reading more of Ms. Hunting's books.

I'm a cat lover so this description just spoke to me from the very beginning.

Miles, a non-cat lover, left to care for his mother's cat, literally runs face first into Kitty Hart, the Kitty Whisperer. Miles & Kitty start out completely awkward, but they ending falling for each other.

Great character development & great pacing. This novel was completely adorable and I loved it. Again, I'm a cat person, so I totally loved and related to that aspect! It was a quick, easy read and I definitely recommend it!

4/5 Stars

Yes!
I loved everything about this book, from the early banter to the character backstories.
The book is aptly titled, and I found all the characters to be relatable and likeable. This is my 11th Helena Hunting book, and I won't be stopping anytime soon.

A Love Catastrophe is a sweet, lighthearted romcom about a nerdy-hot data analyst and a similarly nerdy-hot cat lover. I honestly adored both of these characters. Miles just seems like a great guy, and I love to see a love interest that is not the six foot something stack of muscle that seems to be the default. Kitty was a delightful heroine as well—with a huge heart.

My biggest problem with this book was that I felt like I didn’t really get to know the characters all that well. A lot of stuff happened, but it all seemed very surface level, and the characters never quite came alive for me. Even as the story delved into their pasts and trauma, I still couldn’t connect with them.

Overall, I’d give this three and a half stars. A good romcom, I just feel like it could have been great, and didn’t quite get there.

I love reading Helena hunting’s books. They always pull me in a make me want to keep reading until I finish the book. I tried to take this as slow as I could to really savor the book. What a wonderful book. I enjoyed the characters and the quirkiness of Kitty. This was a beautiful story about learning how to heal after loss.

Thanks to NetGalley and Forever for the e-arc.

This was a light enjoyable read. Miles and Kitty both show growth throughout. There's a lot physical comedy and a lot of cat related puns. A couple of things didn't quite work for me. Kitty being as stuck in her past as she was didn't fit with running a successful business that includes a lot of social media. The online blow-up moving so dramatically into the offline world was a bit much. Kitty and Miles remained lovely to see together.

A throw-away line early in the book really pulled me out - alcohol can legally be purchased at the age of 18 in Alberta and Manitoba, not only in Quebec. I realize this pulling me out of the story is a me problem and unlikely to be an issue for most readers. I however, really got stuck on it coming from a Canadian author.

I'm pretty sure this book was written for me. I LOVE cats and to have them incorporated into a room com is just perfect. I'm obsessed with the grumpy/sunshine trope as well.

A Love Catastrophe was amazing and I would recommend this to cat lovers and lovers of romance a million times over!

- Cat-astrophe meet-cute
- Cat lover + dog lover
- Professional cat sitter + data analysis for an NHL team
- Dual POV
- No 3rd act breakup

A Love Catastrophe was a really cute, quick and easy read. While it deals with heavy topics throughout the book, it felt, to me, more like a comforting hug.

Miles hires Kitty, professional cat sitter, to take care of his mom's cat while she is in the hospital with early on-set dementia. Things get awkward after a disastrous introduction and both Miles and Kitty seem hesitant of each other. But after working and spending time with each other, they quickly realize how much in common they actually share.

Miles and Kitty are both dealing with such traumatic pasts, and they've found comfort in each other. They help each other be brave and slowly let go of all the "what-ifs" of their past and the guilt it comes with, and live in the present.

I loved watching Miles and Kitty go from their disaster meet-cute to friends to lovers. Filled with equal heartwarming and hilarious moments, as one would expect from a Helena Hunting book.

CW: death of a parent (past), death of a sibling/child (past), grief, parent with dementia, cyber bullying.

4 stars. This one is hard for me to rate, because while I did enjoy it very much, there was also a lot going on. That’s not a bad thing necessarily, but I felt like plot wise I was jumping around a lot. Kitty is one of those characters that will be very divisive. I loved her quirky personality, but she is quirky and odd and suffers from speaks what they think syndrome, which comes across cute here but irl could be kind of annoying. Her name is kitty, she’s obsessed with cats, has a cat mobile, and most of her clothes have cat designs on them. She even sometimes says meow or speaks in cat puns irl with actual humans. As I said, she’s very quirky. She’s also an endearing character because she’s lovable and means well. Miles is going through a hard time, like a ridiculously hard time, but he’s likable enough as well. There’s nothing wrong with him, but also no real defining characteristics that I’ll be thinking about for years to come. Also, don’t let the blurb fool you. He works for a hockey team, but the hockey component of this book is negligible.

They meet because Miles’s mom suffers from dementia, so he hires kitty to cat sit his mom’s cat. Although they seem like opposites at first, they really connect over shared grief and guilt. For a book that’s most definitely a rom com, Hunting def does not shy away from also including very serious subject matter. As such, there are some potential trigger warnings, including death of a parent, death of a child, and dementia. Kitty and Miles really do work well together as a couple, so it was sweet seeing their romance develop. I feel like the shared feelings of guilt and grief, and the events that precipitate those feelings, are the main plots, but there are also several other side plots that, if I’m honest, felt a little like they were thrown in there (e.g., social media stuff, allergy stuff, etc).

All in all though, I def enjoyed The Love Catastrophe. Kitty won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I found myself reading this book quickly and with a smile on my face. So,
what more can I ask for? If you like Helena Hunting’s books, especially the other books she has published with Forever, then I think you’ll enjoy The Love Catastrophe. It’s my favorite new release from Hunting’s recent new releases.

Thank you to Forever romance, Helena Hunting, and netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

A Love Catastrophe was a breath of fresh air for me. It is well written and gripping. I couldn't put it down!
It is the story of Kitty, a cat loving small business owner who cat sits for people and Miles, a data analyst for the NHL who needs someone to help with his mom's cat that he doesn't like at all. What ensues is the perfect blend of humor, love, and growth. I highly recommend this one!

A book for cat lovers!!

Rating: 3.5 to 4 star
Genre: Romance

Thoughts: I just love Helena Hunting! She writes it and I will read it!

Although this isn’t my favorite book from her, it cute and quirky!

The characters do deal with some heavier themes, but overall this is a fun romance read!

I would read this book if:
-you love quirky, unique main characters
-you are looking for a fun romance book!
-you are a cat lover! 🐈

As a fan of sports romance novels, I have read many books by this author so my expectations were high on this book. The story follows Kitty who is a cat sitter and Miles who works as an NHL data analyst. The two meet when Miles' mom is sick and he needs someone to take care of his cat while he is away hence this is where Kitty comes in. These two characters meet, chat and find mutual ground as they discover that they have alot more that original thought.
The relationship and romance between the main characters are really sweet and the chemistry is WOW!- bonus points for the consent part!
Overall I think it was a wonderful read!
