May takes readers to the year 2051, a place where climate change has had a profound impact on the planet. War and famine are common in a world where flooding, unbearably high temperatures in some regions and unrelenting snow and ice in others. Scotland is under a sheet of ice and when a meteorologist checking a weather station finds the body of a missing journalist, Detective Cameron Brodie offers to fly North to take the case. Brodie, who’s just received some very bad news from his doctor, knows he must connect with his estranged daughter, who lives in the same region. When Brodie and pathologist, Sita Roy, find themselves trapped at the International Hotel with the corpse during concurrent snow and ice storms, they find themselves in danger, not just from the elements but from a ruthless killer who will do anything to make sure some secrets never surface. May does a marvelous job combining this atmospheric mystery with the all too real consequences of ignoring our environment
