Jack Macintosh has to catch a serial killer before the Olympic Games begin in London and the powers to be want it done as fast as possible.
Plenty to keep you gripped with the story told over two timeliness 1998 and 2012 which I enjoyed, getting to know the back story.
I liked the characters and look forward to getting to know more about Jack in future books.
Overall a really good read that keeps fast paced and interesting throughout.
Thanks to Netgalley and Joffe B9oks for the ARC
This was a classic book of "WHO DONE IT" and I LOVED it. Based in London, I did have to Google some of the words being an American but it helped me learn things about places I've never been through classic storytelling. It was gripping and I would have never GUESSED who actually done it. I wish the other case that was ongoing had also been solved or atleast shed some light on who the other character was to Isabel. I liked that it also had a little taste of romance, everyone loves love!
Jack MacIntosh Mysteries Book 1
A brutal killer who strangles young women and leaves their bodies strewn across London's parks. A killer who leaves his next victim's shoe beside the body of his last one. Detective Jack MacIntosh has seven days to find the truth. A young woman's body is found in Hyde Park wearing only one shoe. Close to the body, Detective Jack MacIntosh finds a black stiletto, diamante buckle glinting in the early morning sun. But it doesn't belong to the victim. Two days later, another young woman is found strangled in nearby Green Park, wearing just one shoe - the matching stiletto.
This book is a revised edition of Seven Day. Although the pace is a bit on the slow side, i was still pulled quite quickly into this story. I liked the authors style in writing. The story has a dual timeline, 1998 - 2012. The characters are flawed, but I quite like that. It makes the characters more realistic. Jack MacIntosh and his team have to work fast to try and catch the serial killer before he strikes again. But Jack has his own demons from his past. Demons that could cloud his conclusion. A great start to a new series.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #JoffeBooks and the author #MichelleKidd for my ARC of #SevenDaysTo Die in exchange for an honest review.
A serial killer is on the loose and Detective Jack Macintosh has seven days to catch him or her. Because the The London Olympics are about to start. A few tense moments with strong characters but very predictable. Still a good read.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
This is a very good series featuring DI Jack Mac Intosh and what an excellent read it is. It's a bit of a slow burner but totally gripped me from the start. The writing style is excellent, with clever plotting, good characterisation and plenty tension. It's set in two timelines from 1998 to 2012, which worked very well and I failed to work out the killer. A must read for fans of the genre and 5* from me. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
SEVEN DAYS TO DIE by Michelle Kidd.
A brutal killer who strangles young women and leaves their bodies strewn across London’s parks. A killer who leaves his next victim’s shoe beside the body of his last one. Detective Jack MacIntosh has seven days to find the truth.A young woman’s body is discovered in Hyde Park. Wearing only one shoe.Close to the body, Detective Jack MacIntosh finds a black stiletto, diamante buckle glinting in the early morning sun. But it doesn’t belong to the victim. Two days later, another young woman is found strangled to death in nearby Green Park. Wearing just one shoe — the matching stiletto. Hidden in the long grass beside the body, the police uncover a low-heeled court shoe.Detective Jack and his team are in a race against time to find the owner of the court shoe before it’s far, far too late.At the same time, Jack is fighting demons of his own. Demons which rise up from the past and threaten to cloud his judgement just when he needs it most.
Gripping and twisty read. Couldn't put it down. 5*.
DI Jack Macintosh is a troubled man but is back at work trying to find a killer who leaves, at the murder scene, the shoe of his next victim. The tension is building because the Olympic Games are due to start soon and the powers that be do not want a serial killer on the loose. I'm afraid that I worked out the murderer very quickly but still enjoyed that large number of possible suspects, all of whose stories could have lead the reader astray - perhaps a bit too obviously? Well-written and one could certainly feel the temperature ratcheting up - both with red herrings and weather. Mostly set in the present timeframe of summer 2012 but with flash backs to 1998 from the murderers point of view. For once, I did not find this annoying. The e-version I had was poorly formatted with sentences spread across paragraphs and lots of extraneous lines but this did not detract from the story in terms of my review. There are hints of more to come but not affecting this particular story in a cliff-hanging way. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.
Seven Days to Die by Michelle Kidd Detective Inspector Jack MacIntosh Mysteries Book 1 is a slow-burn read, but the story was weaved well, and there was so much anticipation on what was going to happen, who was involved, and who would be the next victim. There were so many suspects! It was fun to try to figure out all the aspects and red herrings.
It was a gripping crime thriller with a very good twist. There were so many suspects to choose from, and I kept going back and forth on who could be involved.
I really liked this book and anticipated what would happen next in the story. I enjoyed getting to know the characters, especially Jack MacIntosh. He really liked some of the old-school ways, such as his pinboard rather than the electronic whiteboard. I can identify with that sentiment as I love my good old paper and pencil for lists and calendars.
I also liked DS Cooper and DI Cassidy. They are very well-rounded characters. Something was definitely up with DS Carmichael, so I was anticipating what it was and how it would be revealed.
The story is told in alternating timelines going back to 1998 and then continues in 2012, which worked well because each scene builds on the other to show why something is happening to the characters or what is happening in the story.
The book had great atmospheric descriptions (i.e., the howling wind...was able to rush inside, unguarded and unchallenged. Angry raindrops pelted against the glass, accompanied by the occasional flash of lightning and deep rumble of thunder). Made you feel like you were right inside the scene and story.
I will definitely read more from this author and especially the Jack MacIntosh series. I hope there will be more, please! I would rate this a 4.5 out of 5 stars (rounded to 5).

I liked reading this suspenseful, fast paced, highly entertaining, and gripping story. The world building and the character development are as good as always, the storytelling kept me reading.
I absolutely loved this one! I literally stayed up a lot longer than I should have ti get through this one lol. The plot is original and keeps up a good pace throughout. The characters are well written and you do find yourself getting invested in what happens to them. There are also some really good twists and turns that keep you guessing all through the book. I had absolutely no clue what that final big shocker was going to be until it happened. Just wish there were more to the series already
Thanks to Michelle and NetGalley for allowing me to read Seven Days to Die before the publication date.
When I requested this book, I did not realise that it was part of a series and as a result I probably did not get the best from it.
Set in 2012, the eyes of the world are on London as the opening ceremony for the London Olympics is only days away.
When a woman’s body is found in Hyde Park, D.I. Jack MacIntosh leaves his preparations for a major trial, to lead the investigation.
A second woman is found murdered in similar circumstances, leading Jack to believe that this could be the work of a serial killer.
Instructions from on high demand that the killer is found before it can impact on the Olympics.
Jack is told that D.S Carmichael from Sussex police has been assigned to provide extra support to the team.
Unfortunately, Carmichael is rude and insubordinate and seems bent on disrupting the investigation.
As the body count rises, so does the suspect list.
Michelle has woven several strands into the story and there are plenty of twists and turns before the truth is revealed.
How did I miss this series? From page one I was enamored with this book! There are wonderful, real life like characters, the have faults and good sides! The main character is a tough one, that finally àdmits he has issues. But wouldn't we all with what happened to him and his brother? And the storyline, it was a fast read, kept my eyes open way too late, and my toes curled. My idea of the perfect book! I think everyone who reads this genre needs to read this book! I would like to thank Net Galley, Joffee Books, and the author for an advance copy! This one got to me!
Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for the eARC.
There is a serial killer on the loose in London and Detective Jack Macintosh has a week to catch him/her before the Olympics start. He's a tortured individual who has a difficult past and keeps to himself by choice, no romance for him...
There are some tense moments and a few good characters, but I found it was a lot like many other serial killer books, a bit predictable, nothing outstanding or new. I think I'll stay away from that genre for a while.
Good book! This book had suspense, intrigue, action, murder, mystery, a great who done it and great police work! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I will definitely recommend reading this book! It was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
