We Love to Entertain is a modern-day solid mystery with several predictable twists and turns. Quick easy read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Perennial Paperbacks for the opportunity to read this ARC
This book was good! I enjoyed the plot and characters too. I felt like some of the plot fell flat though and I wanted just a bit more. Overall a good read!
I really did enjoy this one! It was interesting and easy to stay invested. Great writing style! My first novel by Sarah Strohmeyer but won’t be my last. Really fun characters too.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book
This was just not for me. I just did not like the writing I was not drawn into the story and I just really didn't care for it.
For fans of home renovating TV shows, the ones who scroll for hours on Pinterest marveling at the perfect aesthetic for their home, their wedding, their BRAND!
A psychological thriller with twists and turns, misdirection, and epitome of social media being a highlight reel and not representative of real life.
We have Holly & Robert - {the fictional Chip & Joanna Gaines}, their assistant, Erika Turnbull who is obsessed with Robert and wishes she were Holly, then we have the TV producers expecting Holly & Robert to perform and forgo their honeymoon. When H & R take off anyway it gives Erika the opportunity she’s been waiting for - to be Holly. After all, she’s just helping out!
Really interesting plot - I loved the home design aspect of the mystery. Some of the decisions of the characters didn't make a lot of sense and some of the thrilling parts of the novel were a bit rushed, which is why I rated this book 4 stars instead of 5. Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Perennial and Paperbacks for the ARC.
There have been many thrillers featuring home renovations, reality shows, and, like this one, both; but this didn't feel tired or overdone. Fresh and compelling.
I am a huge HGTV fan, eagerly watching any and all home remodel shows that come on. So when I read the premise of this book I was excited to get started! This is definitely more of the “popcorn mystery” novel. While the overall pacing of the book is good, the last 25% of the book dragged a bit for me. The story is told from the point of view of Ericka, the twenty-seven year old assistant to the newly wed couple that is competing in a home remodel show and Ericka’s mother Kim. I found myself frustrated with Ericka, she seemed naive and immature at times. If you are looking for an easy read and like watching some of the home improvement shows, this has some of both!
Thank you to Net Galley and Harper Perennial and Paperbacks for this advance copy in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
First off I want to say I love the writing style. I’m One of those people that has an extremely short attention span, and it’s hard to keep my attention, but this one did. It was a good read, good plot; but with that being said I’m not a huge fan of cozy mysteries and this one to me fell short in the “wow” factor in the end for me. Still a good book, definitely understand that, just for me it fell short.
Holly and Robert are the perfect couple, young and in love and ready to reveal their home and hopefully win To The Manor Built, a popular home renovation show. Robert bought the property for nearly nothing and, together, they're turned it into something extraordinary. And then, hours before the live reveal, they're gone without a trace.
I loved this one. It's fast paced and entertaining and what surprised me most is how little time we spend with Holly and Robert. The chapters alternate between their assistant, Erika, and Erika's mother. The reader sees Holly through their eyes, and through Holly's carefully curated blog posts. I stayed up far later than I should have because I couldn't wait until morning to find out what had happened to her.
I loved the premise of this suspense: a couple working on a home build a la flip or flop disappears a week before the finale. I found it to be fast paced but entirely too predictable for my liking. There were also quite a few references/ loose ends that didn’t tie in.. Still enjoyable but not the most memorable.
2.75/5 stars! As of fan of HGTV and "Selling Sunset," I was excited to see a thriller around reality competitions gone wrong. I found the first 30% of this book to be exactly on brand for the premise. It was exciting and fast-paced. The overall structure of the book is fine, but I found myself bored with the remaining 70%. The ending was predictable and just didn't do it for me.
I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
Holly and Robert Barron are real-estate investors and contestants in a competition on ~To the Manor Build.
It’s a popular home renovations app. Hours after their wedding Holly & Robert go missing.
Unfortunately, I DNF the book, I just could not get into it, I tried several times. I didn’t enjoy reading comments posted on the app/interviews and reddit, I didn’t realize the book would be hard to follow and keep my interest. The plot sounded like something that I normally love.
This is my first book by author, Sarah Strohmeyer, and she did not disappoint! We Love To Entertain was FANTASTIC!
I guess the general twist fairly shortly within the book, but because the story was so engaging, it was enough that I had ZERO problem keeping going (plus I wasn't 100% sure my guess was right).
I truly did enjoy every minute of reading We Love To Entertain, The cover is also pretty cool, too, but it's fairly similar to sooo many books out there so I wish it was a bit different that made it stand out from the crowd.
If you want a fast-paced, hilarious, guilty-pleasure of a read, (in particular if you like watching home renovation TV shows), then this book is RIGHT YOUR alley!
4.5/5 stars. Very very good!

I don't know how I feel about this book. I was really into it at first, but half way through it just didn't hold my interest. I pretty much just started to skim the pages. The ending was predictable and by then two of the characters, Erika and Kim, have gotten on my nerves to the point that I didn't want to read about them anymore. I really wish I could have enjoyed it as much as I did the beginning.
Just my opinion.
I was looking forward to reading this book as the home improvement reality shows have clearly taken over with huge audiences. Unfortunately, this story doesn't really pull you in and felt quite shallow in the way it was written. A light read, but one you will soon forget. Thanks to Netgalley for a free ARC of the book.
Wow. I really don't know whether liked or hated this one. It took a bit and couldn't fully keep my attention. But once I got to about the 70% mark it picked up. I forced myself to just keep reading since the premise sounded very good. By then I just needed to know what happened at the end to end it. Overall not bad, but not attention grabbing enough or Thriller enough for my personal tastes.
Thank you #NetGalley and #HarperPaperbacks for the advanced copy to read and review for my honest opinion.
What an incredibly fast paced read with twists and turns that comes from every direction and an ending that will blow your mind!
If you're a fan of HGTV and missing persons cases then this one's for you. Holly and Robert are one of three couples on this reality show that renovate houses and end up missing one week before the big reveal. Erika, their assistant, is left to deal with the chaos and also finds herself a person of interest in her bosses disappearance. When Erika then goes missing, Holly's mom Tammy, Erika's mom Kim, and Doreen: as only moms can do, hatch a plan to find out whats really going on and find Erika before it's too late.

Good book! This book definitely went in a totally different direction than I thought it would! It had suspense, intrigue, action, murder, deception , and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I will definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Murder, mystery and makeovers play havoc behind the scenes of To the Manor Build, a TV home improvement show featuring three couples competing for the top prize. Two couples are creating welcoming homes for victims of bullying, abuse and PTSD while Holly and Robert, the third, dedicated to slowing climate change, have designed and built an energy efficient mansion in Vermont using environmental technology. Concrete walls! Geothermal energy! Insulating rubber roof! Sounds perfect doesn’t it. It might be, if it is finished in time for the big reveal but this is seeming less likely as Holly and Robert are missing and most of the final details are being handled by their assistant, local resident Erika. She’s the daughter of Kim, the local Town Clerk, who tries to protect her daughter from two threats: local gossip and whatever is going on with the missing couple. Holly, Robert, Kim and Erika are all keeping some very big, literally “show stopping” secrets.
We Love to Entertain is pure delight! The collision of small town secrets and TV drama makes for a fun, quick read! The characters are all well described, especially Erika and Kim. Since Sarah Strohmeyer is herself a Vermont Town Clerk, you can only hope that this might become a series. 5 stars.
