A fun book. I keep a copy in my training bag and bring it out when my kiddos are feeling the need for a bit of a break.

A lot more than the expected trivia book, this covers dogs from Hollywood to the Iditarod, but also packs in a welter of information about the species – their habits, their biology, and what we should be doing to look after them in our homes. Yes, if you've read books of canine trivia before some of this will be familiar, and if you are an expert owner some will be preaching to the converted, but of the amount of books on this subject this is by far the most encyclopaedic I've seen. For the right owner, really something to cherish. And for the animals concerned, too detailed as regards their health and well-being to ever really be called trivia.

The only thing is, this reprint still showed 2009 data in some places, so some may be slightly out of date, especially perhaps in the post-Brexit pet passport rules. It was a shame to not get this fully updated.

There is nothing I love more in this world, other than my husband, than dogs. I've spent my entire life with a dog, and this book just gave me so many smiles. Things I knew, things I didn't, and information I'll carry with me forever. If you're a dog lover, this one definitely is worth flipping through, it's informative and entertaining.

This book is everything you want to know about dogs. From breed, health and nutrition, training and it is all in this book and more. This is a good book to get a child before they get a new friend so they know the care it takes to have a dog. I really liked the Why Do? Section. I recommend this book for the new dog owner and old dog owner, even if it’s just for the cute pups in the photos.

The best feature of this book is the graphic. It is really well done, and it has the feeling of a notebook or a scrapbook, and I appreciated it a lot. It would be a fantastic book to gift (or to buy for oneself, obviously) and to keep as a reference. It is also informative, and it's full of interesting things and notions for people who are thinking about adopting a dog (or people that have just acquired a new dog) but not only for them. There are a lot of anecdotes and fun facts and interesting tidbits disseminated for the book, so it's a good book even for people that likes dogs but don't have them, or people that have had a dog for some time. There is something for everyone.
There is some info that isn't the newest out there (the book has been printed in 2010 and some things are a tad out of date now), but they are not the bulk of it, and another small thing is that this book has no order whatsoever in the way it delivered the info, and a more cohesive and orderly exposition would render this book a tad more useful. I am not saying that is should have a rigid structure, it is nice to see something different, but a tiny little bit of order would have been great!

I'm studying to work with dogs and cats, and knew most of the things except a lot of fun facts - but it's really a great collection for mostly new owners or future owners, to know more about the dogs behavior. It was also very interesting to talk about all kind of current and past working dogs. It also talks about positives ways to train a dog but I would have liked some warning of the negatives ways too ; as well as some warning of not putting a human behavior to a dog (anthropomorphism) : no, a dog don't feel things such as jealousy or regrets. It's very subtly explained and it'd have been nice to develope a little bit more on that fact, specially with how many times it talked about toy dogs.

Also like the cat facts and trivia, it was very messy (even if stated in the introduction) and always came back and forth of some topics along the way to the book so it's confusing. Also again, hope the final ebook/paperback quality is way better than the one I got here because it causes me headache to read such low quality...

It is no secret I am obsessed with dogs, and this book immediately grabbed my attention.

There are a couple of errors - largely in the used of antibiotic/antibody/antiseptic which were used interchangeably at times.

Despite the contents at the start, I did find there were some topics that were put together on a page that really didn't go (Cushing's syndrome and sheepdog trials for example) which came across as chaotic. Similarly, the sentence structure and grammar were sometimes clunky.

However, I read the book from cover-to-cover and learnt SO MUCH. It was entertaining and informative, with a lot of history. I was particularly taken with the sections about interpreting puppy behaviours - I sent screenshots to my boyfriend several times!

There was a lot about choosing a puppy/dog from a breeder which didn't really fit with my idea from the title (of facts or trivia) but would be super useful for would-be first-time owners.

This is probably the best book I’ve read on the subject of choosing and caring for a dog. I highly recommend this book.

I found Amazing Dog Facts and Trivia to be a comprehensive and informative book of everything canine. Colorfully illustrated, the format was very easy for me to become engaged, pick up some helpful training ideas, enjoy the pictures and trivia. Stages of puppyhood, specifics about various breeds, grooming tips, the importance of socialization, diet, and puppy proofing your home are just a few of the topics covered. As a dog owner and retired trainer, I found this book to be a solid knowledge base for new dog owners, It includes guidelines and important questions to ask if you are adopting or purchasing a puppy or adult dog. This book would also make a great gift. Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC of Amazing Dog Facts and Trivia.

This is a gorgeous book with cute and beautiful photos of dogs, and lots, and lots of dog facts, a perfect book for any dog-loving child or adult!
The text is in short and captivating bullet points or short paragraphs, and each is written in both an informative and entertaining way.

Amazing Dog Facts and Trivia is a very fun book for dog lovers. This book would make a great gift.
The contents of this book are random, with the idea being that every time you open it you learn something new. I read the book from start to finish, so I did not experience this benefit. But I could see how that could be fun.
There is good information in the book that can be used too educate dog owners - are you ready for a dog?, how to find a vet, etc. If you need to read about something in particular there is a Table of Contents with page numbers that is divided into topics or there is an index at the end of the book with page numbers.
There are fun pictures of dogs all thru out the book. There are pictures of dog breeds and pictures of dogs working, playing, resting, etc.
There is also tons of fun information about dogs. I really enjoyed the page about dogs in songs that showed the song name and who sang it. I also really enjoyed page 54 about the dog in the Chinese New Year.
The book is not written just for people in the US - different countries have different dog breeds and ways that they handle issues around dogs. So when breeds are mentioned it is not necessarily the way we do it in the states. An example would be on page 42 there is picture with a caption that says they are Belgian Tervuren Sheepdog puppies - in the US we call this breed Belgian Tervuren.
I would not recommend this book if you are looking for something in detail - but it is informative for general information and great for fun facts.. It touches on everything a dog owner might need, but just not lots of details.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Amazing Dog Facts and Trivia is a fun book for any dog lover or owner. Filled with fun facts, tips for owners and adorable photographs this would make a great book for any dog fan. The book helps people who've not had a dog understand what goes into owning and caring for one, what they need, the type of breed best suited to their lives and homes and much more. We recently got a puppy and I got this to read through with my ten year old and she had great fun learning new things from this book. A fun and enjoyable read and a must for anyone looking at getting a dog.

Very similar to the cat book by the same publisher (but a different author), I like this one a little better. There is still a lot of focus on breeders. The majority of the book is trivia like lists of dogs in songs and movies, stories of dogs from history, the supposedly smartest dog breeds, weird dog laws and such. Some is info like why dogs smell butts and the different types of collars. This isn’t a thorough enough book on topics like dog training, the characteristics of different breeds or raising a puppy to be your primary guide but if you just want interesting facts it provides well.

I read a temporary digital arc of this book via NetGalley.

This book makes a big promise in the blurb. It says you'll be "able to find out everything you have ever wanted to know about out legendary best friends, as well as lots you never thought to ask." Toss in anecdotes, heartwarming stories, training and care tips, trivia, and some wonderful photos and artwork and, well, it may come close to living up to its promise.

I don't tend to rely on blurbs to share what it inside but don't think I can top this one from the publisher:

"The dog has earned the title of man’s best friend through centuries of devotion, companionship, dedication, courage, and willingness to be whatever we want or need. In Amazing Dog Facts and Trivia, you’ll learn everything you ever wanted to know about our legendary best friends. Explore their origins and development and the various dog breeds from Poodles to Labradors to terriers to wiener dogs. You’ll find details about the physical traits of dogs: their barks, their hearing, and astounding sense of smell.

This book contains helpful tips and advice, including how to: evaluate different breeds, puppy-proof your home, care, feed, and play with your do, and so much more!"

Back to me. I've got to admit upfront that I didn't sit down and read this straight through as I would a regular book. Heck, my first go-through quickly turned into a "look at the amazing pictures" browse. Next look, checking out the index and chapter content, which is impressively lengthy and easy to use. I then spent some time checking into topics that grabbed my attention, stopping to smile or even chuckle at some of the anecdotes shared, while equally focused on the stories of various pets and owners.

In other words, this is a book that wherever you turn, you're likely to find something of interest. This one should definitely be on any dog lover's bookshelves, both for quick reference and simply the fun of finding out more about our canine friends or just enjoying the pictures. Thanks #NetGalley and #QuartoPublishingGroup - #ChartwellBooks for introducing me to this lovely, soon-to-be addition to my own shelves.

I really enjoyed this book, which offers useful information as well as entertaining, fun facts. Great gift for dog lovers!

Being an avid dog lover, I found this book to be quite average. I’m unsure if the target audience is children and if so, there is information but the layout isn’t very easy to navigate and I wasn’t very impressed with the pictures.

For me, there’s not enough information and facts for it to be very educational and it’s not easy to navigate enough for it to be something for children or young adults.

The information itself was useful but nothing that one cannot google - it was a lot of basic and known facts - nothing I would need a compiled book for.

Again, if the target audience is schools maybe it could work but it didn’t impress me too much.

This book is filled with hundreds of different facts about dogs. This was truly an impressive book to read and look through. It shows a lot of similarities between different breeds and answers some questions that some may have not thought about asking.

As I dog lover and furmom to a beautiful American Eskimo dog I loved this book! It went from the basics of breed, behaviors, nutrition to more in depth topics such as questions to ask if you are buying from a breeder. This is an amazing book filled with tons of valuable information for not only beginners but also seasoned dog owners. I highly recommend!

I give this book 5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and the author for an advanced copy.

This book will absolutely be enjoyed by its target audience. I was in as soon as I saw some of the photos!

There is so much information in these pages. Learn about the origins of dogs, their breeds, physical facts, behavior, buying a dog, why dogs do certain things and so much more, even famous dogs and sayings.

This is an eclectic collection to browse and dip into. I thought that sections such as Are You ready for a Dog? were helpful. I also enjoyed reading about dogs in literature.

This title would make a perfect gift for a pet owner, your dog walker, those who love dogs even without having one in the family.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this title. All opinions are my own.
