Now I am very much a pick a book by the cover type of girl. This cover did not let me down! I went in totally blind and absolutely fell in love with Rachel Griffin's writing. The character development not only with the MC but a lot of the characters and relationships was an absolute breath of fresh air! I will be looking out for Miss Griffin's books in the future!

I loved this book so much!! I love the world building and the magical world that is created here!!

Tana is a witch who has always been drawn to the water. Feeling more herself when she is under. She didn’t question why things are the way they are. She accepted her fate/ destiny for her family and the coven. Learning that everything that she once knew was a lie and so many secrets being kept from her and most of the coven.

Wolfe was definitely an interesting character and I fell in love with him right away! The way you can tell how he is drawn to Tana, just makes you wanna swoon.

I loved all the twist and turns. Learning that things aren’t the way they seem. I was hooked right away and couldn’t get enough. I love this book so much!

Archived prior to being able to read the book. Lost interest in trying to pick it up. I was originally interested but as it sat in my library, I did not feel the summary grabbed my attention anymore.

Tana Fairchild loves her life on the Witchery, a picturesque island inhabited by a coven of witches. After historic persecution by the mainlanders, the witches have survived by forbidding the use of high magic and peddling their magic as harmless, tourist-friendly items like teas and candles—while secretly disposing of their excess magic into the ocean. But the currents in the ocean are getting stronger, and a recent attack on the Witchery shows how delicate the relationship between the mainland and island is. As the daughter of one of the island’s coven leaders, Tana will marry the mainland governor’s son, an alliance that will finally secure the peace and resources that the Witchery needs.

But even while using her magic to craft perfumes at her parents’ magic shop and trying her best to be as presentable as her mother wishes, Tana has always been drawn to the wildness of the island and the ocean waves. When she meets a boy, Wolfe, who claims he’s from the old coven—witches who still practice high magic, or dark magic—Tana realizes she has much more to discover about her society, family, and herself.

BRING ME YOUR MIDNIGHT is a romantic story of first love, unlearning stories that have been made truths, and a refusal to be tamed. The author does a spellbinding job of using magic as metaphor through Tana’s internal journey as well as external, political struggles such as ideas of Othering and belonging, and the existential threat of climate change. The romance between Tana and Wolfe is central to the story, with Wolfe guiding Tana both in learning how to use high magic as well as questioning everything she’s known to be true. The dynamic between the new coven and old coven is layered and multidimensional, and when added to the historical relationship with the mainland makes for very interesting power relations.

Through the Witchery, Griffin paints an evocative, cozy setting reminiscent of Practical Magic: wisteria-draped cobblestone streets, pastel-hued magic shops, rocky beaches, and a lush island landscape. A relatively small cast allows the characters and relationships to fully blossom on the page (with lovable side characters like Tana’s dad and her best friend Ivy). Most of all, Tana’s journey is the heartbeat of the novel. Many readers will relate to her familial and societal expectations to be polite, polished, and put-together despite the wildness in her heart and the draw she feels to learn about a life and a magic outside her own.

Ohh I was not expecting how gorgeous this book would be. It’s moody and atmospheric, full of magic, witches, secrets, forbidden love and midnight meetups. I fell hard for these characters and their story, the world building, all of it. Totally sucked in right from the start. Will pick up more of her books ASAP.

I received an advance review copy for free via Netgalley (THANK YOU) and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

As with every Griffin story, this book was beautifully written and thought provoking. I loved the uniqueness of the magic system and the intricacy of how it was carefully woven into a story about family secrets and conservation of nature. I did think there was something slightly missing, and I think it was the angst that I usually feel from her main characters as they are trying to reckon with their choices; but, overall I don’t think it detracted too much from the story.

Romance, fantasy, and beautifully written in a world you could get lost in. Really enjoyed this. Can't wait to read more.

“That’s why I’m here,” I say, my mords quiet and unsteady. “To fight for something I once believed in more than anything else.”

The new coven only practices light magic to keep peace with the mainland and avoid any unwanted suspicion. The new coven rushes their excess magic into the sea to limit their power, but its effects are taking a toll on the island and could spread to the mainland. Tana begins to question the new coven and discovers they are hiding something and destroying the island. To save herself and her home Tana goes looking for answers.

I really enjoyed the way small bits of magic were woven into the characters lives with simple teas and perfumes.

I really related to the family ties and expectations of the main character. I rarely find any YA books where the whole family is alive and well, and has a good relationship - being tested by the conflict in the novel.

The romance in this book was sweet. I loved their interactions and adventures.

I’ve read other books by this author and I was much more impressed with Bring Me Your Midnight with its in depth world building, and deeper character relationships.

Classic YA fantasy that checks all of the boxes and adds a few more.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC!

Many thanks to Netgalley, SOURCEBOOKS Fire and the author for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Rachel Griffin is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to writing atmospheric stories. You absolutely feel at ease being immersed in the story, the magic, the company of the characters. I was a bit unsure about this book at first because the blurb hinted towards more focus on romance than I would like. But boy oh boy!! This book felt like a cathartic unbecoming and then a cool cold breezy shower of rain followed by a warm blanket and a cup of cocoa. As in you literally go through every single possible emotion while reading this book.

To start off, we have Tana the fated heir of the witch clan who is to marry the son of the governor of the mainland and finally bring the sense of security to her little island and her community. She has always known that is going to be her life but that does not mean it doesn't unsettle her. Then we have Wolfe who belongs to the faction of the coven that refuses to curtail their powers to make the non magical comfortable. Having seen the amount of power Tana possesses Wolfe also refuses to let her villainize magic and helps her feel at ease with it while helping heir see the ways in which her coven is destroying the island. As this goes on, a budding relationship grows between them that makes Tana question everything and anything that she has been told and shown.

Both Tana and Wolfe were so relatable and absolute darlings, that i felt drawn to feel everything that they already felt and struggle with them and root for them. My most favorite part of the book was the expressions of emotions were not just limited to the FMC but we saw all kinds of emotions from fear to tears of relief from Wolfe too, which was written in such a soulful way that I was blown away. Also the supporting cast of loving and supportive parents and friends were so beautiful to read.

All in all a beautiful 5 star read for me with a character driven atmospheric fast paced short chapter beauty. And Rachel Griffin is now an auto-read, no questions asked!

⭐️=3.5 | 😘=3.25 | 🤬=3.5 | ⚔️=2.5 | 15+

summary: so this girl lives with her witch coven w magic powers and she has to marry the main guy of the mainland for like an alliance but then one day she misses an important magic ritual and interacts with this bad boy evil witch and they fall in love or something

thoughts: this is pretty okay! it’s the kind of romantasy vibe where the guy’s POV shows up once to pine and curse dramatically over the FMC and then never returns but I still liked it. cool world building, silly faux-love triangle—very early 2010s YA. I liked that the MC had two living parents and, like, a solid relationship with both of them that has its own developing arc?? so rare and so refreshing lol

Hooked from beginning to end, I absolutely loved the world-building that kept me guessing with every turn of the page. Learning about the magic system amongst witches is one of my favorite parts and this novel did not disappoint. The suspense throughout the novel was simply fantastic. My first book by Rachel Griffin and it won't be my last.

𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲: Special thanks to Rachel Griffin for providing me an ARC copy to share my honest review.

I had high hopes for this as I loved Wild is the Witch by this author, but while very atmospheric, the main storyline wasn’t quite fleshed out enough for me to fully enjoy this. I didn’t feel the chemistry between the main love interests, and the politics and world could have used more developing. I enjoyed the reading process, but when I finished the last page I felt like I was missing something.

This was a cute coming of age story. I do wish there was a little bit more character development and more magic/fantasy.
The back and forth between what her heart wanted and what she had to do professionally became too much.
I would still give this 3.5 stars - I just wanted more.

I am amazed by all the orders Rachel Griffin can build for her witches. Three stand alone novels, three different types of covens, three sets of rules and power structures. All excellent reads; this is the most romance heavy of the three and I am just fine with that too.

This is a story about a young witch being torn between family, duty and true love, about personal growth and old secrets. I felt that Tana is a very relatable character and right from the start my heart opened up to her. I am so happy with the ending after an emotional roller coaster.

I really enjoyed this book!
The world building was wonderful, the magic system was also really interesting. There was so many emotional things that go on in this book but it created such an amazing atmosphere for us to enjoy. I definitely would recommend this to anyone looking for an adventure and something to escape into.

I love Griffin’s writing style. It’s so easy to settle into — you never have to waste 100 pages feeling like you’re getting caught up in the story because it hooks you right away. The worldbuilding was a little lacking in this one, but the intrigue between the main character and the love interest was enough to keep me reading.
