Tanna has been raised using magic and knows that her role in the world is to help to bring peace between her coven and the rest of the world. Her life has been planned for her, but when a chance meeting with a strange boy makes her see the world another way, she has to decide between following her heart and her duty to her family and coven. Wolfe is an unexpected twist in her life and the way that their interactions are crafted is just beautiful to read. Griffin writes another beautiful story and the way she creates these worlds filled with magic and passion and emotion, make her a must read author for me. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
I enjoyed reading this book but it was hard to get into at first, i personally didn’t like the arranged marriage aspect but overall i did like the story between Tana and Wolfe and the higher magic. I wouldn’t say that this would be my favorite book by this author but i still enjoyed it.
Bring Me Your Midnight is one of my most anticipated releases of this year, and it didn’t disappoint! Rachel Griffin is a master of the YA fantasy romance, and I will read everything she writes.
The magic in this book is beautiful, as are the characters and the setting. I don’t usually say this, but I wish this book was even longer so I could read more about Tana and Wolfe ❤️
The last third of this book absolutely ripped me apart, but as usual Rachel Griffin’s writing is so healing and cozy that I had happy tears in my eyes at the end. The beginning is a little slow, which is probably why I didn’t get the elusive five star ~vibe,~ but it definitely pays off in the end.
I’m so excited for everyone to read this book! 4.5 stars
Thank you so much to SourcebooksFire and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
My IG review will be posted two weeks before publication day, and my Amazon review will be posted on publication day.
“He comes alive in darkness, so darkness I become.”
Be still my heart. The characters within this book are so easy to fall in love with. Aside from the fact that this is a beautiful enemies to lovers story, it also has the most tender relationship between father and daughter. Samuel is the one of the most encouraging, level-headed and gentle Dad’s that I have encountered in a book — it reminded me in many ways of the relationship I have with me own Dad. It was so heartwarming to see represented.
Back to our beloved characters — Mortana is such a naive young woman… so full of hope and desperately wanting to do the right things as to not disappoint her family, friends and coven. I feel that her desperation to make her family, mainly her mother, proud is something that is so deeply rooted in many of us. The desire to make decisions that tend to make others happy in front of your own happiness. This book beautifully conveys the internal struggle of following your heart and doing what others feel is best for you. Then you have my dear sweet Wolfe, so much anger and torment and sadness. What more do we love other than a dark haired, brooding guy? Each layer that is peeled away from his story leaves your heart aching for him just a little more.
Bring Me Your Midnight was beautiful and sad and hopeful and heartbreaking all wrapped into one enchanting story. This is my second book by Rachel Griffin and I plan to read the one I haven’t yet read and any book so releases in the future. Another auto buy author has made their way into my heart. Strong Covens, Light Magic, Dark Magic, Magical Shops and a deep connection to the sea — this book will leave your heart aching. Perfect for those who love Witch Stories, Enemies to Lovers, Found Family and Strong Friendships.
1 line review: a deliciously dramatic, starry-eyed ode to forbidden love and the infinitesimal beauty of the sea, the real magic in this lovely book is Rachel Griffin’s use of scenery.
in Griffin’s latest, we meet Tana, a protagonist of contradictions. she’s headstrong, but easily swayed; curious, but complacent; wild, but well-practiced in perfection. Tana’s always known what’s expected of her — her future on the island she’s been born and raised on has been painstakingly mapped out by her mother ever since she was a child. her only real refuge is the ocean and how it calls to her — but even the magic she draws from it is tightly controlled, with strict rules in place, as has always been so, long ago decried by the island’s only coven.
at least, that’s the story she’s always been told. and just like her predestined marriage and future, Tana’s never really thought to question any of it. not her power, legacy, or what lies ahead. until an unexpected late-night encounter with a mysterious boy — who by all accounts, should not exist — leads her to challenge everything, and everyone, she thought she understood.
engrossing plot aside, the very best part of “bring me your midnight” is the way Griffin deftly works in dynamic descriptions of the ocean and what it represents to the characters — and, in many evident ways, the author herself. her formidable writing skill is on full display here. by all accounts, this book worships the natural world — its sheer beauty, power and mystery handled with respect and reverie.
*thanks to net galley and the publisher for an arc.*
Beautiful, lyrical, and lushly hypnotic. I fell in love with the wilds of the Witcher instantly. Tana and Wolfe’s story is so romantic, I know I’ll keep coming back to read this one every summer
I love stories about witches and this author seems to be writing about only witches. I read The Nature of Witches but haven’t read Wild is the Witch yet. I decided to give this one a chance because I thought The Nature of Witches had so much potential but I just didn’t totally love it.
I like the concept of Bring Me Your Midnight. The story is full of magic, romance, and a difficult choice that Mortana (Tana) has to make. I thought the world building was very interesting and I liked how the townspeople had their own magic that they used for their trade of business. Mortana’s family made perfumes and her best friend Ivy made tea infused with magic. I like how their magic was useful.
Mortana is the chosen witch who is supposed to unite the mainlanders and witches into a unified front by an arranged marriage. Landon seems nice enough but through this book we really don’t get to know him at all. Mortana is a nice girl, a good girl, who falls for a mysterious, handsome boy. It’s a forbidden love she has to give up if she wants to be a dutiful daughter to her parents and her community.
I usually love a good witchy romance story, but I found this one just okay. I wanted more from the characters and I didn’t feel like I connected to anyone except maybe for Tana’s best-friend Ivy who had a really strong voice. There was a lot of angst and longing between Tana and Wolfe but I just felt like something was missing intensity and I just couldn’t get invested in them.
Tropes: forbidden love, duty or love, enemies to lovers
Why you should read it:
*you like witches and forbidden love
Why you might not want to read it:
*I wanted more from the characters, felt like it was missing something
My Thoughts:
I was excited to read this one because the cover is beautiful and I love stories about witches but this one was just okay for me. I like the concept of the story but I wanted more from the characters. I found it hard to get invested in their story. I did like how Tana had to face a hard choice between duty and love because we get to see her struggle and grow. She also stands strong in trying to get the truth from her mother about their magic, powers and history. So I thought it was nice to see her grow and be able to choose love in the end. This may have fallen a little flat to me but I think a lot of other people will love this story.
I have loved everything Rachel Griffin has written, and Bring Me Your Midnight may just be her best work yet! If you’re a fan of forbidden romance, the ocean, and unique magic systems then you absolutely need this book in your life!
Tensions between the witches of Tana Fairchild’s island and the mainland have always been contentious to the point that her coven stopped practicing dark magic ages ago and have been resigned to casting a low tide version of their magic. In hopes of uniting her coven with the mainland, Tana is set to marry Landon, the governor’s son. Responsibility has always come first and Tana has pushed aside her feelings to play the part of the dutiful daughter and future bride. All sense of duty and expectation are upheaved though, when Tana misses an important coven ritual and runs into a mysterious boy named Wolfe who claims to part of a coven that practices dark magic. As Wolfe opens Tana’s eyes to powerful magic and long-buried secrets, she must decide if she’ll remain loyal to her coven or choose a reckless future full of wild magic and searing romance.
Rachel Griffin is a master at capturing an atmospheric setting. The descriptions of Tana’s island were so vivid, and the connection between magic and the natural world contributed to the setting beautifully. Griffin crafts her prose with the same lyrical precision that she writes her spells with and I ended up highlighting paragraphs at length because I was so enamored with the passages. Perhaps my favorite part of the novel though, was watching Tana and Wolfe’s story unfold. The angst level was perfect and the forbidden nature of their relationship heightened the tension. This is an exquisite romantic fantasy, filled with lush imagery and I am already excited for finished copies to release so I can read it again.
Thank you to Sourcebooks Fire for providing me with this ARC via Netgalley!
This book was everything I wanted it to be! Full of forbidden magic and forbidden love. Rachel Griffin is a beautiful storyteller that spun an enchanting story!
Mortana “Tana” Fairchild is a 19 year old witch who’s destiny has always been chosen for her. Set to marry the governor’s son from the mainland in order to bring peace and unity to the witches and the mainlanders, Tana has never really thought about what she wanted, only what she knew she had to do. Since her coven practices low tide magic, each full moon they need to rush their excess magic into the ocean. When she misses the rush, she finds a man she’s never seen before, Wolfe, who helps her with his dark magic. Mortana must make a choice between choosing duty or love.
This story was captivating from the very beginning and fast paced. The writing was just beautiful and truly sucks you into the story. Rachel Griffin gives up the perfect atmospheric read with The Witchery, a beautifully gothic PNW island full of witches, small shops with hanging wisteria growing everywhere and cobblestone roads. Tana is only 19 turning 20 and I felt for her. Never thinking about herself until she accidentally finds something she wasn’t looking for that made her feel, made her question her whole life and everything she believed in. She deals with shame and guilt and what comes with trying to decide what’s right for you when there’s bigger stakes at risk. I loved everything about this book!
Hawke was so dreamy. I loved his world and his determination in his way of life and preserving it and how he was open to try new things as well. Their romance was forbidden and I loved every midnight minute of it. Inadvertently with Wolfe’s help, Tana discovers lies to things she was told to be true growing up. Their chemistry together was perfect. This was such a beautiful and angsty read! Definitely recommend for any fantasy romance lover!
I am so thoroughly obsessed with this book, you do not even understand. Pacific northwest beach/witch vibes?? Immaculate. This book has all the atmosphere, witch lore, forbidden love, enemies to lovers, etc. that we are all obsessed with. Wolfe Hawthorne has my heart completely
This book made me kick my feet like I was giddy and sob uncontrollably. It is so worth the read. I will love it forever and by any special edition that exists. Rachel Griffin, you are a god (witch) among women.
I received a gifted ARC from Sourcebooks and NetGalley. All thoughts are my own! This one is one of my most anticipated reads and it did not disappoint!
This book left me speechless a couple of times. Rachel Griffin's writing is just beautiful. The imagery and her way with words create this stunning world of magic. I have love each book Rachel Griffin has written. I believe she is one of the only authors i have read all of her books so far.
In this beautiful story, Tana is a witch living on an island across from the mainland. Her marriage has been arranged since she was young. She is to Mary Landon the governor of the mainlands son. This will bring honor and protection to the island and the witch's that call it home. Tana's mother is the head of the coven where they live. Tana's mother and father both expect her to marry Landon.
However, soon Tana meets Wolfe and her life is flip upside down. Dark magic that was once thought to be gone from the island is still being practiced. So many things that Tana's was taught aren't true?
Will Tana choose the life that set her free or will honor and obligation ultimately win?

I really enjoyed this! The writing flowed very well and it was easy to read. The pacing of events made reading this exciting but not overwhelming as not too much information was given at once. The imagery was incredible as well. I felt like I was right there on the island with Tana and Wolfe!
My favorite of Rachel Griffin's books to date. Bring Me Your Midnight is delightfully angsty. I especially appreciated the complicated mother/daughter dynamics. I want to run away to the Witchery. `
When I saw I got approved for the eARC on NetGalley I immeditaly started it!
If you're looking for some beautiful, witchy books Rachel Griffin got them for you!
The setting was so eerie and atmospheric I could almost hear the ocean myself even though I live hundreds of kilometers away from the sea.
All characters were very likeable and I enjoyed the relationships Tana, the female MC had to her parents and her best friend. I found Tana overall to be a relateable young adult.
I found the start a little slow and it took me a few pages to be fully invested in the story but everything worked out for me in the ending and I really like the pacing.
The magic system was absolutely beautiful and I enjoyed the way they used the so called lower-magic. The process of infusing the perfum, which they later sold to mainlanders/non-witches sounded so interesting and beautiful!
This book is so much more than a witchy romance. It is about finding yourself, family & friendship, risking everything you love to find your true happiness. If you want to find out if it is all worth it, go and pick this book up! It is out August 1st 2023.
Thank you to Rachel Griffin, Sourcefire Books and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Another atmospheric, magical masterwork by this lovely author. I loved reading The Nature of Witches and Wild is the Witch, so it made complete sense to request for this ARC. I was over the moon when I received the e-ARC and immediately started reading! I was in the midst of battling a reading slump and this took me right out of it! Thank you for letting me read this gorgeous book.
In this book we follow Tana living on an island with her family and witch coven. Her path has been set out for her. She is to marry the governor’s son from the mainland so her coven and people from the mainland can finally be at peace and the coven gets the protection and recourses they need. All goes as planned until Wolfe comes along… And that is how much I’ll tell you about the story!
The book in a whole was very atmospheric and nature-oriented without being too slow. Yes, there are a few slow parts and the beginning of the book could’ve done with less of it and more of the magic, but to be honest, every book has those parts. I love how this author is be able to draw in nature in her books. It feels as if you’re right there with the characters. I would smell the salt in the air, I could feel myself gasping for air when Tana was under water…
The ending felt a little rushed though. I can’t say much about what exactly without spoiling it, but here goes: the space between the moment a decision is taken and the events a few pages after made it feel rushed. I would’ve loved more pages added where the decision is perhaps dwelled upon or trying to undo it. Not in a complicated way, just the way when you take large decisions and think ‘’was this right?
Even with that little point of critique, I absolutely loved this book. The book had become one of my favourites (as with all her books) and I cannot wait to hold it in my hands! It comes out 1st of August (on my bday!!) and the cover and naked cover are just gorgeous!!

Once again, Rachel dazzles with atmospheric witchy goodness that warms a reader from the inside out. Tana has everything a YA character should have: angst only a teen can deliver, a sassy best friend, a sense of duty she wants to throw away for a boy she just met with forbidden magic! Bring Me Your Midnight is such a beautiful, moving story with high stakes straight from the go. It’s rooted in romance & trusting yourself to go after what you want. Rachel is an auto-buy author for me who continues to impress me with each piece she puts out there. Not to mention she has the most GORGEOUS book cases around, & BMYM is no different 😍😍😍
Wow, such a fantastic book! It’s been awhile since I finished a book in one sitting but I just couldn’t put this down. Griffin nailed this YA witchy romantasy with its highlights being an atmospheric setting and lyrical prose. Tana was a great main character with layers and I couldn’t help but root for her as she navigated the difficult decision between following her heart or fulfilling her obligation to duty. Familial obligation and loyalty to civic duty are two things I always enjoy in a book, particularly when it’s paired with confliction, so the entire plot just completely worked for me. Whirlwind romances aren’t typically my thing but everything about Wolfe and Tana was so heartwarming and it really captured the intensity of first love. Plus, I love a closed-off, reluctant love interest so I knew early in I was gonna stan Wolfe. Overall, an enjoyable read that I know is going to be a hit with both the YA and adult readers. I’ll be recommending this to all of my fellow witchy fantasy lovers. I can’t wait to read what Griffin writes next.
4.5 ⭐️
This is Griffin's best book yet! It really helped pull me out of a slump. The beautiful writing, the magic, the romance, and the story were so fascinating. I loved Tana's character and her whole journey and I loved Tana and Wolfe's chemistry as well. If you enjoy a romantic fantasy that is quick to read with beautiful writing, I would highly recommend picking this up.
I've been a fan of Rachel Griffin since her debut The Nature of Witches. The themes of climate change and witchiness are found throughout all of her books and Bring Me Your Midnight was no different. However, compared to her two earlier books, Midnight was a tad darker. I suppose with a name like "Bring Me Your Midnight", it theoretically should be darker but it was so much more than that.
The FMC, named Tana (short for Mortana), has known her fate for her entire life. She is to marry the governor's son (human) to solidify an alliance between the mainland (where humans live) and the island where Tana lives with the rest of her coven. But a missed witch ritual due to a chance encounter with a rival coven member (who, unlike Tana's coven, practice dark magic), sets forth a series of events. Events that will make Tana decide between her heart and her head.
This is, by far, my favorite of Griffin's books. I loved the progression of Tana's character and her realization of what is true and what she had been told her whole life. The secrets, the betrayals - so good! The way Griffin writes Tana and always weighing the options of doing what's right for her family/coven versus what she wants to do is both heartbreaking and powerful.
I also loved the relation between their magic and the tides of the ocean - it was just so.... Rachel Griffin :). The romance was also so much better than her past books too (not that the others were bad, just on the younger side of Young Adult). Wolfe and Tana's disdain for one another felt real rather than forced and the progression of their romance was so natural. There are no explicit scenes as it's still a Young Adult novel but I love that Griffin took it further than she has in her past books.
Some favorite quotes include:
"I did everything I could to save her life, gave up everything, and I lost her anyway." - Tana
"He comes alive in darkness, so darkness I become." - Tana
"But I suppose we're meant to think the most dangerous things are lovely." - Tana
Tropes include:
- Enemies-to-lovers
- Arranged marriage
- Magic systems
- Forbidden romance
- Climate fiction

"A home that has unfailingly let my wild heart be free.
I used to believe that I belonged to the sea.
But I was wrong.
The sea belongs to me."
Rachel Griffin has to be one of the best authors of our time. The way she writes storytelling, the way she creates the perfect ambience, making us feel like we're literally living the story is so breathtakingly beautiful.
This story, Mortana and Wolfe's story is one I will take with me forever. I love elemental magic in books, I love how everytime I read about it, it is depicted in a different way. I loved Rachel's the most so far.
Mortana's witchy connection to the water, to the ocean, goes way beyond her magic, because the water is in her, it's what brings her joy, peace. As someone who is absolutely fascinated by the depths of it, this story pulled my heartstrings.
I love how we see a raw love story forming, how our main characters, Wolfe and Mortana, are forced together, a bait to each other and "cannot help falling in love" with each other. ❤️ Their love filled me to the brim with some sort of wonder and peace. We have a family in shambles, we have witches trying to protect themselves from humans, living amongst them and their laws due to what happened in Salem with the old witches. Dark magic, sorry, High Magic isn't allowed but it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
We see Mortana torn between fulfilling her life's duties, being there for her family (her dad is such a sweetheart, I swear) and for Ivy, her best friend and soulmate, marrying Landon to secure their alliance with the mainlanders (humans) and choosing herself, choosing what she knows in her heart is right, choosing to love unconditionally, choosing Wolfe and the ocean that sets her free.
This book was truly beautiful, was truly heartbreaking and yet, it stitched my heart all together at once. I cannot possibly recommend it more.
