This audiobook would be a great accompaniment to the picturebook. The story was very funny, and my preschool-aged boys love any reference to poop. Seeing the pictures and hearing me label some items, such as "Poop Juice" and "Poopcorn" made the book even more laugh out loud funny, which is why I'd recommend the audio with the physical book.

I really enjoyed this story and it has been nominated for some readers' choice lists of book awards. I thought it was a great lesson on friendship, bullying, and remembering that not everyone likes the same thing, but that's ok. We are all a little weird in our own way.

Dougie the dung beetle is embarrassed that he eats poop sandwiches with the crusts cut off and thinks his classmates would be grossed out if they knew. He covertly hides his lunch on the playground and sneaks away for snacks when he can. He feels a certain kinship with another classmate who is a house fly (since houseflies have no problem eating poop) but yearns for the approval of the other bugs.. Housefly classmate is at peace with what he eats and likes and pays no mind to the other buggy, and potentially judgmental, classmates. One day on the playground the dung beetle's classmates peer-pressure him into tormenting his housefly friend and Dougie decides that enough is enough..

This is such an adorable book made better with a super fun narration. I'm always a sucker for a good bathroom humor read and this one checks all of the boxes. I recommended this as a purchase for the library collection for the epilogue/yearbook entry alone. Readers will get acquainted with basic bug anatomy and learn what mad skills different bugs bring to the table (ie. praying mantis mom eats dad). My only (minor) quibble is that Dougie's classmates include animals that I wouldn't include as bugs, ex. spiders and snails. It helped me to reframe Dougie's classmates as small invertebrates.

A funny and cute book with a great message for young readers! I enjoyed listening to this as an audiobook! My own children heard me laughing and wanted to listen too. Great for kids of all ages!

What a fun audio book! I listened with my 9 year old and we both laughed and snorted thru the story. I'm sure plenty of elementary kids will enjoy this story. Poop talk is always a win with kids. There is a lot of extra sounds and noises to add to the story.

While browsing NetGalley, I kept running across the audiobook “I Eat Poop.” The title makes me giggle. This week I saw a review of the audiobook and decided I just had to hear it for myself.

Mark Pett’s “I Eat Poop” features Dougie Dung Beetle. Dougie LOVES poop, but that is his secret. His favorite school lunch is a poop sandwich, but he fears the other bugs will make fun of him so he hides his lunch every day so they won’t see it OR see him eat it. In fact, Dougie has been telling the bugs at school he’s just a common Ground Beetle. One day, Dougie’s fondest wish comes true; he’s invited to eat lunch with the popular bugs. In the course of that one lunch Dougie has to decide if he will be an upstander and protect a friend from bullying AND whether or not he can be his true self with his classmates.

The story is delightful and the audiobook is a gem. The sound effects are spot-on as is the narration by Torian Brackett. I giggled throughout the story and was rooting for Dougie the whole time. The second half of the audiobook reviews Dougie’s school yearbook by introducing all of the bugs and their interesting characteristics.

This story is great for young kids who might be worried about how they are different from their friends. It’s also great for anyone who likes a feel-good story about standing up for yourself and those you care about. If you’re working with older students on story writing for younger kids, this would be a solid example of a mentor story.

Thanks to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the advance audiobook in exchange for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

The audiobook of “I Eat Poop” will be available Tuesday, January 10.

I EAT POOP is one of the funniest audiobooks I've listened to. I have to admit I listened to this book entirely on my own, without my kids. And I loved every minute of it!

Oh my gosh, I have not laughed so much over a kid's book ... ever! I listened to I EAT POOP 𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗲! by myself before I listened to it with the little minions. ⁣

This is the story of a dung beetle who loves to eat poop. But he's embarrassed and doesn't want his schoolmates to know. Essentially, it's about him learning to have courage with his peers. ⁣

What got me the most was all the extras from the other students. I don't want to share them because it would spoil but I highly recommend this book! ⁣

Torian Brackett does a FANTASTIC job of narrating I EAT POOP but what I've seen from other reviews, the illustrations are gorgeous, as well. ⁣

The little minions and I will be making a trip to our local library to check out this one for ourselves. For now, we've still got plenty of laughs left for this audiobook.

Yes, it is called I Eat Poop. Yes, it is amazing.

Brackett’s narration only adds to this impeccable children’s book!

This is a cute, no matter how gross, book about accepting yourself and not letting others pressure you to hide parts of yourself. I love how the book doesn't just talk about the habits of dung beetles, but delves into the habits of other insects as well.

I love the relatable, outsider feel of a dung beetle, the voice is animated and fun to listen to. I just don't know if our library would grab a physical copy of the audio book but perhaps digitalized one for sure!

This book has a great lesson about being different that children can and should learn. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at some of the silly sentences. Plus, the word poop is pretty funny itself.

What an interesting and informative book! Kids are so fascinated with poop! I love that this book draws the reader in with the title, then uses this “fun fact” to show kids that we are all different and everyone has their own quirks. I really enjoyed the positive message as well as the interesting facts about all the bugs. Such an educational book with an inspirational message. I did find some of the words to be possibly over the heads of your typical child reader, but nothing that an engaged parent couldn’t simplify for them. Overall a fun book!

Thank you to Macmillan Audio, Macmillan Young Listeners and NetGalley for the audiobook. Everything I write is my own thoughts feelings and opinions. I am not compensated in any way for my review.
I listened to this audiobook with my six year old. At first we thought the book was strange. then it got into how everyone does weird things and its no reason to feel ashamed or hide your true feelings. My six year old now will ask to relisten to the book. It is a great book with a great takeaway..

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to experience this audiobook with my youngest two.

This story is ADORABLY told. A poor little dung beetle does his best to hide who he really is so he won't be made fun of. Finally he is brave enough to just be himself and he finds out everything, even the popular bugs, are a little weird. We are absolutely going to have a physical copy of this book on our shelf.

This is a marvelous story about being different and accepting yourself for your own quirks. Everyone has their own quirks that they are feeling self conscious about as well.

The story is about a dung bug that eats poop. He feels so embarrassed about it at school so he hides it from his friends. Then he finds out all his friends have unique quirks they too were embarrassed about.
This was a delightful fun book that was as well as informative about different bugs. I highly recommend this book.
Especially if you like bugs!
Thank you netgalley and MacMillan Audio for this wonderful advanced audio book in exchange for my honest review.

This was a sweet and delightful listen! The title had me doing a double take, and I’m glad that I picked this one up!

I really liked the added sounds and music in the background, and the expressive narrator.

I appreciated the message of standing up to bullying and being who you are. I also loved the sharing of facts and quirks that the group shares that kids will love! And the yearbook at the end adds even more facts to know!

Overall, this was a great listen, and will hopefully make lots of kids giggle and learn!

Cute story! This story had more depth than I expected. I feel the audio book by itself doesn’t do the book justice however with the visual I believe it will be an adorable family title.

A hilarious tale of a (kid's) bug life. Pett puts the basics of entomology and gross out humor to good use for a school story about how to handle being different.

I Eat Poop takes a real problem and puts a fun education twist on it. Everyone is different, everyone is weird. That doesn't make us a lesser person than anyone else.

In this story, Dougie is a dung beetle but is too ashamed to be his true self. He tries
to hide the fact that he eats poop, he even goes to pretty great lengths to try to hide it. Dougie was afraid he would be made fun of if anyone knew. Turns out everyone has something they feel is weird and don’t want anyone to find out about. Dougie comes clean and then we learn everyone is hiding something. That was my favorite part. The class yearbook tells you what kind of bug everyone is and a weird fact about them. This was a good story to tell you to be yourself. Whatever you are is enough, don’t try to be what you are not.

I had an opportunity to listen to a pre release copy this audiobook and thought it was marvelous. My husband and I listened to it together and not only did we laugh multiple times, we learned so many fascinating random facts about so many insects that we both agreed it was a 5 star book because the kids will love it and it is also interesting for adults. I am certain I will be listening to this several more times with my grandkids!
If you have young kids 5-10ish it’s the perfect book to have some family time with. 15 minutes of fun for sure! Releases Jan 3rd and available on Amazon.
