I received a copy of this audiobook from netGalley for a honest review.
Nobody does the first year of collage quite like Emma Lord. I loved this fun book about a girl finding her voice and self worth. There could have been more of the Grandmas but I'm glad she talked to her dad. Also Milo was a great support, so much better then Conner. I look forward to reading more by Emma.
I really enjoyed this one. Thank you, NetGalley for sharing this with me. I'll definitely be looking forward to reading more.
I don't know how Emma Lord keeps sucking me into her books but she's 4 for 4 so far on YA contemporary perfection. And you know, it would have been six stars if I actually enjoyed when characters cursed with phrases like "salted caramel peanut butter chips."
The first half of this book was somewhat slow, and I actually took a long break before finishing—but I enjoyed the narrator and the author’s writing style. This story just didn’t work for me, however—I’m not a super big fan of aggressive meddling, and inserting oneself into the problems of others is a major component of this book’s plot. The characters were really well drawn and the plot wasn’t typical or predictable. But this is one of those times where I can’t tell if I’m frustrated with the characters because I’m so far past college freshman age or because they’re just frustrating. I do recommend, however, for fans of college/coming of age stories.
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
This story was so stinking cute. I loved everything about it - I did find it to be a little predictable, I called just about every "twist" but still really enjoyed it. I also felt Andie was so relatable, especially to me on a personal level. I went through almost this exact scenario when I went off to college. (Realizing that the person you thought was going to be spending the rest of your life with was only meant to be there for a time, and that a lot of growing can happen over the course of a few months)
Loved the grumpy / sunshine aspect of this story - Loved Milo from the first second he came into the story. And I loved the friendships in this book - so many times in books there is a catty female character and I was so pleased to see the drama without it being because of a woman.
Andie has Plans for her and her high school sweetheart, and in her efforts to surprise him, she finds they are not on the same page at all. As Andie starts to realize she has revolved her life around someone who had given her little consideration, she starts to think about what she does want and how to put in the effort. Great characters, and a nice grumpy/sunshine romance. Great audio narration.
Fantastic narrator for the audio. The story is cute. It's VERY predictable. Which I guess is part of the romantic genre. I'm not sure if Emma Lord is really my taste anymore. It's just a little too cutesy and formulaic for me. More language than some of her other books. Although I appreciate the lack of sex scenes in her books. But yet again, I could do without every YA book including LGBTQ storylines.
Begin Again is a book for lovers of rom coms, Taylor Swift and a meet cute. Absolutely endearing, Andie is determined, and relatable, her journey compelling regardless of the love interest. Highly recommend!
I wouldn't classify this as a romance. It falls squarely in the coming of age and starting over genre, and it does that well. I enjoyed the positivity and raw approach to feelings and growth and facing adulthood. We follow Andie Rose as she makes the best laid plans and sees how things get in her way and throw her off track. She's the very epitome of the edict that true character is evident in how you deal with the challenges life gives you. I enjoyed the narrator and have no complaints when the comes to the audio features or voice acting. It wasn't an audiobook that I feel overly enhanced the storyline, but it didn't disrupt the flow or plotlines either.
EMMA LORD. Gosh this book gave me ALL the feels!! I love love love the new adult genre, especially on a college campus setting. This book was so sweet and made me SO nostalgic for college. I loved it so much.
Very cute! I have enjoyed Emma Lord’s books and this was no exception. Quirky and fun with witty dialogue.
This was a sweet novel about starting over. I really loved the concept, I loved the university/college setting, I loved the whole anonymous call in/write in advice column idea - and I really liked Milo's character, probably the most. The secondary characters were wonderful and I really enjoyed this book more than I expected and I would definitely recommend.
Emma Lord has such a specific voice that is so cozy and sweet. You know when you start one of her books that you're going to be kicking your feet and feeling like a teenager again. This book is no different
I enjoyed this one! The romance was cute and I liked the exploration of balancing family legacy while being true to yourself and your interests. Emma Lord always writes a cute story. That being said, this wasn't a new favorite or anything. Any enjoyable read but nothing groundbreaking. I enjoyed it while I read it, but it was fairly forgettable.
Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.
This was a easy & cute read. I enjoyed the characters and seeing the main character come into herself through the story. It was a little young feeling but overall good. The narrator was good as well.
Sally Hepworth writes some of the best domestic thrillers I've read, unfortunately The Soulmate fell a little short for me.
The book overall was entertaining and I thought the plot was unique and intriguing but I found it to be slow and dragged out. Most of the twists weren't too exciting and I wasn't really on the edge of my seat reading through this book.
I was not a big fan of Pippa, the main narrator. If she was written differently, I may have enjoyed the book a little more. This was a good book, I just wish it was better.
This was a cute enough story but I don’t think this author is for me. The writing feels too juvenile and I don’t get anything out of reading the stories
I didn't enjoy this at first. I found Andie annoying. Connor is a twat. He'd do really well on a modern dating app. Trust me on this. I was less into Milo than I probably would've been 923847239847 years ago. I'm still mad at my sister for pointing out that my book boyfriend type is not my actual type.
Anyway. The story began to grow on me. Andie made less bad decisions as time went on. I'm not huge on coming of age stories, but she really came into her own. She started to rely less on people that didn't matter, and began to show off her actual personality. Lo and behold, it wasn't so bad. I'm not sure the romance added to anything, but feel free not to listen to cynical ole me. Funnily enough, I'm going to a romance only bookstore later. I need help.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.

**Book review** Begin Again** By Emma Lord
I have never read one of Emma Lord’s books but will be definitely reading more of them in the future. This one had me laughing, sighing and saying OMG. This was a great book. Very relatable too.
Andie was accepted into a college but her boyfriend, Connor, into a university 2 hours away. After a year, she is able to transfer to his university and tries to surprise him only to have him do the exact same thing, transfer to her college. They unfortunately are not able to transfer back to either so they are stuck doing long distance again but it does not work out as it did before.
Andie fits right in with her roommate and the people at the radio station where she finds out she has a connection to the radio station and to her mom who passed away. A coffee addicted, crabby RA with amazing eyes that she is working with makes her question her long distance relationship and her career goals. Is Connor the right man for her or is she just comfortable in his life?
This book was laid out perfectly. There are some surprises along the way that I was not expecting which made the read that much more enjoyable. I also loved how she used her favourite food instead of swear words. This book kept me on my toes and reading until the very end to find out what was going to happen.
I will for sure read more of Emma Lord’s books as this one was totally up my ally. Thank you NetGalley for the copy.
I think I’ve read all of this author’s books, and this is more of what I’ve come to expect. It’s a pleasant ya that I can dip into when I am needing something light. It’s nothing earth shattering, but it’s just what I need sometimes. I really enjoyed the feeling of being on a small college campus with all that goes with that experience.
