This book reads like a fanfic: lots of smut, a bunch of ‘shocking’ events to make you get through the stretched-out middle part and not much plot surrounding that.
I enjoyed reading the first half, but the second half completely lost me. In my opinion, this happened because the main storyline focused too heavily on the enemies to lovers relationship between Anastasia and Nathan. When they finally got together, where were we supposed to go from there?
And don’t get me started on the ending. It’s like Hannah Grace took all the clichés that I hate the most in a romance and dumped them all on paper.
Still, this book is not completely horrible, and it’s a fast and easy read if you feel like picking it up.
I did not know, when starting this book, the "spice" level. The cover insinuated romance, but I was thinking initially more romantic comedy. It definitely leaned harder on the romance, with very descriptive sexual language. I was hoping to read this to judge whether I would purchase the title for my middle school/high school library, as this genre is well requested. I'm glad I read it first, it is definitely more of a public library book! Overall, the characters were pretty charming, and I did enjoy watching the story unfold. But if you're not super interested in hockey, there can be parts that will drag. Overall, if you like a romance that will take your imagination to some hotter places, this book is definitely for you.
I know booktok was all over this one but it personally wasn't my favorite. I can see the appeal for others but for me this one isn't one I'll reach for again
I unfortunately couldn't get into this one, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't recommend it to someone else!
I love this book and the hockey and ice skater characters. Hannah Grace's world building and romance is perfect and I look forward to reading more by her!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book, as this book has already been published, I will not share my review on Netgalley at this time.
BookTok made me read it and while I didn't hate it, I also didn't really care about the characters. Like. We get it. Y'all find each other smokin hot.
I like the thrown-together plot and some of the side characters, but I could barely see the non-sexual tension between the MCs.
It was a good beach read, and I'm actually excited for Henry's story coming out soon, but Icebreaker won't be high on my list of recommendations.
I loved everything about this book, people can knock romance, rom coms, and sports romance all they want, but this was one of my favorite reads in the last 4 months of the year! I enjoyed each character, side characters included, the little world she created for them and I couldn’t wait to dive right into the second one!!
This book is a bestseller for a reason. Icebreaker is a great romcom for hockey fans and figure skating fans alike. I can’t wait to read more from Maple Hills!
I wanted so badly to like this one after my students enjoyed it so much, but it was a strange mix of twee (young romance) and spice. Though I appreciate that the book features more healthy relationship communication than my students' other favorite (Colleen Hoover), I'm not sure I can get on board with this one -- and I love spicy romance!
A steamy college rom com featuring a figure skater and a hockey player. I am a sucker for a good funny hockey romance and this book didn't disappoint. Add in the fiesty figure skater and you've got a great read on your hands! So cute!
DNF at about 40%, it just dragged a little, the characters were a little annoying and Aaron kept making me mad the longer I read, I saw many booktokers recommend it so I was excited to read it but ultimately wasn’t for me and that’s okay.
Thanks to the publishers and netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
I enjoyed this book! I felt it dragged a little toward the end and could have benefited from some trimming. But overall I enjoyed it, especially as someone who isn’t a sports fan!
Love. Love. Love. Beginning to end this book is so much fun! The main couple has top notch chemistry and banter, and the other characters are so incredibly funny and lovable. The steaminess is so good and you can’t help but become invested in the story
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I really wanted to like this book but it just wasn’t that good. The romance between Anastasia and Nate was seriously lacking and uninteresting. Dnf
I was really excited for this one, but ultimately it fell flat. It took two weeks for me to make it through because there wasn’t much to hold my interest. The plot was often bland, and the side characters were better than the main characters. I read Wildfire before this and liked it a little bit better. Not invested enough to try book 3 :(
Wow! Like I knew I was going to enjoy this book but damn did I enjoy this book! Why I waited so long to read it is beyond me! It was so so good!! Nathan and Anastasia are amazing characters!! I love their frenemies to lovers arc. But not only that I love how much the secondary characters are fleshed out!! Seriously I loved them all!! EXCEPT AARON BECAUSE EFF THAT GUY!!!!!!! Honestly thought Nathan's positive towards making sure she ate and her issues with weight was a breath of fresh air!! Also NO THIRD ACT BREAK UP!!! Bless right up on that!! Needless to say this is one of my favourite books of the year and that Uber scene was NO JOKE! HOTT!!! And if you know well you know!!
If you are looking for spicy and sexy then this is it. I thought I was going to have issues with this one but surprisingly I loved it. It got hot and heavy fast but it kind of worked for this book.
I requested this for consideration for Book Riot's All the Books podcast for its release date. After sampling several books out this week, I decided to go with a different book for my review.
I will start by saying that I DNF'd this book at 82%. I simply could not make it any further. I wanted to DNF at multiple points, but saying Hamilton was a musical this college was legally allowed to perform was the last straw for me.
There was nothing redeeming about this book. And after so many people (that I'm friends with irl and on booktok) recommended this book I figured it was going to be the best romance I read this year. LOL at past me because that couldn't be further from the truth. I forgot that this book was originally a wattpad story and idk how I forgot that because this reads exactly like a wattpad story. The big jaw dropping things that happen at the end of every chapter, and they're shell shocked and so massive and completely unbelievable?? Like falling through a lake and then it's not even really an issue the next chapter? Like haha hehe fell through a lake, nbd. And everything in this book is like this. Aaron is a pos and is starving Anastasia, haha hehe he must just be going through something and didn't realize he was killing me.
And I said it once and I'll say it again, STASSIE is a horrible nickname for ANASTASIA! Her parents call her Annie and I have friends go by Anna, like those are leaps and bounds better (I saw someone call her the Loch Ness Monster so that is the only way I will refer to her from now on).
Nessie and Nate are also just such unlikeable characters. It goes beyond being morally grey or me not agreeing with their motivations. They are just bad characters, poorly written, and have no chemistry with each other at all. Much like Lola and Robbie, there is NOTHING there other than they were both forced together.
Also I am not sorry at all but if someone treated me an iota of how badly Aaron treats Nessie I would slap a mf and cut him off so quickly. He is so inappropriate with her it is disgusting (and I didn't get to this part but I was later told that he KISSES HER?? Girl be so f**kin fr rn).
I could go on and on about everything wrong with this book. But at the end of the day, I no longer care. I have put this horrible book out of my mind and will never think about it ever again, other than to tell someone who asks me if it was good that no, it was not good, and you should read literally anything else.
If you're going to write a book, make sure you actually do research on that topic so that when people who enjoy said topic inevitably pick up your book ON THAT TOPIC they actually want to read it and not immediately get turned off by all the inaccuracies.
Also why did it take till SIXTY PERCENT OF THE WAY THROUGH THE BOOK FOR ANYTHING TO EVEN HAPPEN. Like that's not good book writing.
Why does a college senior have a tesla?? IDC how rich daddy is, he should not have a $100,000 car on a college campus!!
Okay. I'm done for real now. Don't waste your time on this book.
