I love Megan Miranda and this is another great story. High school classmates only bonded through tragedy. 10 years later they have come together, but their numbers are dwindling. This book goes back and forth from the present to the past to uncover what each person experienced during the tragedy. A gripping mystery that holds your attention and will not guess the ending until the last few chapters.

This one will be a library favorite, this I am certain! The twists and turns Miranda tales are at times, predictable but she’s one of the good ones in the genre. The characters were so easy to fall into, the writing succinct and the plot fast paced. This page turner is a must-read for spring!!

I absolutely adore megan miranda's books. They are the perfect amount of suspense/drama without keeping me up at night. I really enjoyed this book and the way it was written. I loved that it traveled back in time and told the story one way while the "current time" events played out.

And I didn't predict the ending at all.... i love when the author keeps me guessing until the last moment.

Definitely a must read for the summer!

I'm sorry to say I was disappointed with this mystery. It has a long list of characters and there was very little character development which I always enjoy in a story. Although the premise of the plot might have been intriguing it was too drawn out for my liking and I found myself looking forward to the book ending as opposed to not wanting it to end. This might not be a popular review but I need it to be honest.!!

Survivors of a high school tragedy meet up each year in solidarity, until they start dying one by one and no one is sure who to trust. This was kind of a confusing mess by the end, but it did keep me entertained for the first 75%. Pretty mediocre thriller overall.

Starting off, I’ve never read a Megan Miranda novel before. I have many on my TBR lists but haven’t gotten around to them. When this came up on NetGalley, I thought I would take a shot.

This story is about nine survivors of a horrific accident when they were in high school. The following year, eight are left. The remaining eight decide to meet on the week of the anniversary every year to check up on each other. Nine years later, another is gone leaving seven survivors. The story is told from the point of view of Cassidy in the present time with alternating points of view from the past.

For the good parts, I really enjoyed the concept of it. The author did a great job of keeping it suspenseful while also entertaining. I also liked pretty much all of the characters. I think some of my favorites were the men especially the ones who showed a bit of vulnerability. I did enjoy the fact that there wasn’t a romance aspect to it. She stayed true to the mystery/thriller theme.

Onto things I didn’t enjoy: not much character development. Everything was in Cassidy’s point of view so we really didn’t get to see much from the other six people she’s living with for a week. I wanted more. I also felt it took too long to get into it. Nothing much new happened for a good portion in the beginning. Also, not a fan of Will. He was not a survivor and I’m not sure of his purpose at all. The big “mystery” at the end, I guessed pretty easily. There was a twist at the end that I didn’t suspect, so that was at least a bit satisfying. I just wanted a bit more in general.

Still a good novel, and I’ll likely read more of hers in the future. Expected publication - April 11th, 2023

Thank you to Netgalley, Scribner, and the author for an online ARC.

The only survivors follows the survivors of a high school accident years later. I enjoyed the mysteries within the story. This book kept me interested till the end. I would recommend to anyone who would enjoy mysterious novels.

Megan Miranda books are an auto-read for me and this one is no different. The beginning is very eerie and interest-piquing. A fun domestic thriller that will leave you guessing up until the very end.

I really wanted to like this one more. A story about a group of friends/students who were on a group road trip, and they crashed into a Tennessee ravine. Multiple students and teachers died as a result. The remaining survivors were left traumatized. A year later, one survivor commits suicide. On the 10th anniversary of the tragedy, they all reunite at a house in the Outer Banks. While there, one of the survivors, Amaya, disappears. Is there something sinister going on? Can anyone be trusted?

This is told in the past and present timeline, and the past is told through the survivors POV. I felt that the main character , Cassidy's POV in the present, was just slow moving. The ending of it felt rushed and I was left with some unanswered questions. I do think that some people will really like this one, it just wasn't my favorite.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own. My review will be posted on Instagram, Bookbub, Goodreads, and Amazon once it publishes.

This book had a very mysterious atmosphere, no matter if they where at the ghost house in the Outer Banks or in their hometown hours away. The survivors of a terrible school accident, where many of their friends perished meet up every year on the anniversary of that fatal night. But all of the survivors have secrets and in the ten years that they’ve been meeting none of them has really let their guard down. This book was told mainly from Cassidy’s viewpoint as she tried to pull away from the group and move on with her life but got pulled back in. It kept me guessing as none of the characters was especially likable. This book has all of the parts that make it a scary psychological thriller but all of the scenes kind of fall flat. The back story is told in reverse, which is a little confusing but you are hearing it from each of the kids who survives this harrowing experience. I liked this one, a definite 3 and half stars.

📚The Only Survivors
✍️Megan Miranda
📖Contemporary Romance
⭐ ⭐⭐⭐/5

Every year a group of people get together for the anniversary of the tragedy that binds them together. It is not a happy gathering.

Ten years after the anniversary of the tragic accident, Cassidy has decided she is not going to continue with the tradition. But when she receives a text message that her closest friend in the group, Ian, had passed away, she packs her bags and heads towards the Outer Banks, NC.

The week always feels off every year, but something is even more off than usual. You can imagine Cassidy's confusion when Ian's phone ends up in her hands washed up from the beach. How in the world did it get there? Sifting through all of the secrets is becoming very tiring...

There were many secrets embedded within this story. Twists and turns I did and didn't see coming. I loved how the flashbacks were always from someone else's perspective, sharing their story of the tragedy that United them.

What I loved:
- The multiple POVs in flashback from past and present.
- The twists and turns, it's like as soon as you were pretty sure you had it figured out you realize you were wrong.
-The ending was crazy

What I didn't love:
- Even though this book was very interesting, it felt like it was a very slow read for me.
- None of the characters were really likable...

Will post this week to Goodreads and Instagram!

“You are not the worst thing you’ve ever done,” and sometimes doing nothing is the worst thing of all. Miranda constructs one hell of a story with tragedy, pacts, lies and intrigue until you’re not quite sure who to trust or what to believe. The characters are deep and detailed, the plot shifts and exposes the tiniest flaws, and Miranda’s use of the written word is impeccable in this truly excellent story. This one had me pausing to process what just happened, yelling at the characters and saying “what the h!” more than once, which for me are the signs of a truly remarkable book. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a Megan Miranda and she delivers a well written, action packed mystery every single time.

This book was hard to put down. Great twists, great plot. Cassidy is trying to figure which of her “friends” that survived the bus accident in high school that she can trust. She mourns her lost friends Clara and Ian, but was there more to their deaths? I will be recommending this book to others! Thank you for the advanced copy

Thank you so much to Simon & Schuster for the chance to read and review this book prior to release.

Where to start? I absolutely am obsessed with this cover and the survivor trope premise. This was one of my most anticipated 2023 reads. As a big Megan Miranda fan, I've read almost all her work and rated her last book, The Last to Vanish, 5 stars.

Maybe I was too excited, but this one fell flat for me. I can't really put my finger on exactly why it didn't work for me, but I felt like rolling my eyes through a lot of it and that pains me to say.

There were a lot of main characters, 8 to be exact, but she did a great job distinguishing between them all so that wasn't a big issue for me although I can see some people finding that overwhelming.

My biggest struggle was that the back story wasn't explained very well and while I understand we were supposed to be fed the story little bit little, it wasn't really enough to understand or to really care what happened.

When the reveals came, I didn't think they fully made sense and I feel like I'm left with a few unanswered questions.

I still think a lot of people will enjoy this and I'll continue to read what she writes next!

This will be available 4/11.

2.5 stars rounded to 3

Flew through this slow burn psychological thriller. Liked the dual timelines. Mainly narrated by 1 character, but we’re given the POV of others to reveal more insight into the true story of the past. Guessed some twists early, but others were a total surprise. Thanks to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for an advanced copy!

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an eARC of this book.

This was such a fun read! I have really enjoyed other books I have read by Megan Miranda, but this one and The Last to Vanish are probably my favorites. I enjoyed the way this story was told. There were multiple points of view and chapters alternated between the past and present. I found the story very engaging and I thought the pacing was really good. When everything was revealed at the end, I was legitimately shocked. I really enjoyed the ending a lot. This book was a really quick and easy read. It would be a perfect vacation/summer read. I really enjoyed it!

While the premise of this story—the survivors of a tragic accident gather annually on the anniversary of the event—may not be that unusual, the relationships between these survivors definitely are. As the 10th anniversary gathering approaches, Cassidy is not planning on going. She wants to move on, as the people in the group are not actually friends, but bound together by this tragedy. But a text from one of the group prompts her to go at the last minute, and the events of the book are set in motion. I’ve loved Megan Miranda’s books, but this one fell a bit short for me. For the most part I enjoyed it, but the tension between all of the characters was odd. I understand why they felt a tie to the group, but getting together every year for an entire week, when most of them brought their laptops and were planning to work most of the time, struck a false note; it felt a bit forced. But the thread running through—what really happened that night?—was interesting and I was engaged enough to keep reading. The chapters switch back and forth between the past and present, so the events of the accident and aftermath are interwoven with the characters 10 years later. Ultimately I felt it was a good book, but not as good as Miranda’s last thriller (The Last To Vanish) which I really loved. Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.

Maybe I'm not the best one to judge this book, as I've truly never come across a Megan Miranda book I DIDN'T thoroughly enjoy- but this may be her best yet. I couldn't put it down, and a lot of that is due to the fact that her writing is so fluid that it is almost Lyrical at times. I could feel my anxiety ramping up at the appropriate times; my sympathy growing deep for the appropriate characters. Once again, just an all-around well done book. I know I won't HAVE to recommend this one in order for it to fly off our shelves- but I'll be doing so, anyway.

Is there anyone who sets a North Carolina scene, better than @meganlmiranda ?? The answer is no. As someone who goes to the Outer Banks often (the real OBX not the Netflix version) I was so excited to find out that’s where the majority of this book takes place. Miranda’s description of the house and the roads made me feel like I was right there.

This whole book was a mystery whodunnit, and I can say with 100% honesty, the revelation at the end had me floored. I loved the different point of views when it came to the flashbacks. I also loved how there were so many different personalities within the house, so it was easier to keep up with. All and all I would definitely recommend you add this to your tbr ASAP, it will be released April 11th!

Ten years ago, Cassidy was one of the nine survivors of a horrible car accident on a school trip. They made a pact not to talk about what happened during the accident to anyone. She and her former classmates reunited on the tenth anniversary of the accident at a beach house in the Outer Banks. The tension is high, and secrets are among them. Who can they trust, and will the rest survive the trip?

This book was mostly a miss for me. The story did not hold my interest. I felt the plot was very anticlimactic and slow. The build-up was pretty much nonexistent until the explosive ending. It was tough to get through the book, but the end made it worth the struggle. The narration went between the present and when the accident happened (Then). I liked the Then sections better because it was written in reverse chronological order, which was different from what is usually done, and there were various POVs. I do think if you love a slow-burn thriller, you will be in for a treat with this book!

Thank you to Netgallery and to Scribner Books for giving me a copy of the book.
