I absolutely love Megan Miranda and her books are always an automatic read for me. Thank you to NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book to me!
This was a rare miss from Miranda for me. The gradual reveal of the crime in question made it confusing to fully understand what actually happened. The book also had a very slow pace (not typical when I read Miranda novels) and I had a hard time finishing it.
The writing was very good, which kept me somewhat invested as I read. However, the plot was not interesting and I was disappointed that it did not hold my attention. She is one of my favorite authors so I am hoping her next book is a winner.
I always get excited for a new Megan Miranda book, but this one fell a little short. I picked up this book a couple times and kept having to start over. The first half was slo moving and it took me a while to get into the book. The characters were not very likable.. I read it to the end more out of curiosity and invested time rather than real interest. I did enjoy how she alternated perspectives between then and now, the ending was a little bit of a surprise for me which doesn’t happen often in psychological thrillers.
This book had me hooked from the very beginning. I had so many questions and the question of “who did what when?” Had me second guessing everything I thought I knew in such a good way.
Always a Megan Miranda Fan
"The Only Survivors" by Megan Miranda is a thrilling book with lots of surprises. The characters are well-developed, and you really feel for them. It's a creepy story with a surprise villain and plenty of secrets about the characters. The book follows a group of high school students who experience a life-changing event during a trip, and ten years later, they're still connected. It's a gripping tale of friendship and how the past can shape the present.
I always get excited for Megan Miranda novels and make a point to find a stop on her pub tours to hear her thoughts! The set up is based on something ghat really happened to her, ! The Only Survivors is so unique! While other authors alternate between the past and present, she alternates from present to most recent past and then goes farther back in time. It takes careful skill to reveal just enough to keep your reader guessing but then to do that backwards really left me impressed. Not to mention I really enjoyed the book, too. The characters don't show how complex they are or how complicated their relationships until close to the climax. I stayed up past my bedtime to finish it! Thanks to #NetGalley for the opportunity to preview #theonlysurvivors by Megan Miranda. I loved it and can't wait for her next release!
I really enjoyed this book! It had some twists and turns that I did not see coming! Books that make me want to stay up past midnight reading are the best and this one definitely fit in that category. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book! I will certainly recommend it to all of my reading friends!
The book felt like it was drawn out, and it was also a typical plot that’s found in most of the books.
I received an advanced copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
3.5
This book had a great plot but was drawn out at times. Most of the characters weren’t very memorable. The ending was my favorite part of the book. I had an idea of what was going to happen but did not suspect everything. I enjoyed the fast pace at the end of the book as I wanted to find out what happened.
Megan Miranda does not disappoint. This was a lightening paced suspense novel that keeps you guessing and interested until the very end. A perfect beach read!
This was a good read, but not a great one. I enjoyed the writing but there were a lot of characters and it was hard to really get to know them. We don't learn much about them so it was hard to really empathize with any of them.
I loved the narrative choice to go back and forth from the present to the accident (starting with one survivor's POV 7 hours afterwards and going back one hour and switching POVs until you got to the accident itself).
The story just wasn’t holding my attention but I was hoping for a huge payout by the end. Unfortunately, the reveal didn’t surprise me.
While this one may not have been my favorite by the author, I am still a fan, and I look forward to her next!

Megan Miranda is very hit and miss for me. I loved All The Missing Girls but sadly, subsequent books that I've read from her haven't been as thrilling as that. This one started out good but soon felt kinda bogged down for me. I don't know if I'll read future books from her or not.
I really enjoyed this book. The author did a great job describing the setting and kept me guessing the entire novel. It was a quick, fast-paced read.
Unfortunately, this book was not for me. I tried to read it multiple times, but the characters and intrigued failed to capture my attention and I found it far too easy to put the book down. After multiple attempts, I decided not to continue trying to finish it. Because I did not finish, I will give the story 3 stars; I know many people loved this book and the writing itself was very good; unfortunately, the story did not capture my attention.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for a free copy of this e-book in exchange for my honest review.
I didn’t realize I didn’t review this one. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t my favorite by the author, I’ll always read her books, though!
In Megan Miranda's latest thriller, 8 people are reuniting at a beach house. The reader learns that none of them are excited about it. The reader learns that the thing that connects them is a high school tragedy; an accident. But they all have secrets. Amongst them. From each other. The reader learns more and more of the accident and the secrets as the book continues. I really liked the format of the story and the timeline in which the plot continued and things were revealed. The actual story though leaves something to be desired. It wasn't my favorite Miranda book and won't be the first one I recommend of hers to others. I don't know that the plot itself is very memorable. That being said, I still really enjoy her books and I will keep reading them!
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced digital copy. All opinions are my own.
I am a huge Megan Miranda fan I have been working this her backlist recently but this one takes the cake. Usually I find some of her novels to be too much of a slow build but this one hooked me in immediately. With a very busy week I finished this in literally one day and was thinking about it when I wasn’t reading it. Super glad I got this from netgalley, highly recommend this one if you like or her if you’ve been meaning to try this author. I’ll probably never look at the outer banks the same way again.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book! My review can also be found on my instagram, @manymerrybooks.
Megan Miranda is such a hit or miss author for me. I felt like this one was definitely lacking. This one was a slow burn. I also didn't feel super invested or connected to any of the characters. So this one was just "ok" in my opinion.
I love Megan Miranda's writing! So, when I saw this one I knew that I was going to have to read this one! It was definitely one of the most anticipated reads of 2023!
A story of secrets of both past and present. A group of high school students go through an unimaginable event. A trip that would change the course of their lives and they still show up for each other later on in life.
The only thing that I did not like was that the beginning was sluggish but the last 1/3 of the novel made up for this sluggish with all the action and twist! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who has enjoyed her books before and if you have not read one of her books then you are definitely missing out!
Thank you S&S and Netgalley for the extraordinary opportunity to read and review this one!
I usually really enjoy Megan Miranda's books, but this one I could not finish. Maybe one day I will pick it up again and enjoy it, but unfortunately I was unable to get into it this go around.
Good story, slower until the last third. When it is much more action filled than first part.
Keeps you guessing!
