This is the second of the Isolde and Adrian romantacy novels.
As the second book in the series there was a bit of repeating information and situations, which I had expected.
Although the first book moved very rapidly and events unfolded new strange possibilities, the second book did not move along as quickly and the entire book pretty much took place in the Castle.
There were some suprises that I didn't see coming and some I had anticipated. The kingdoms and characters were expanded on a bit more which I liked as well.
I enjoyed some of the tropes and disliked others but I will be looking for the third book to see how this story continues.
what a good follow up to King of Battle and Blood! there were some things that threw me for a loop in the absolute best way. I cannot wait to see where the next book takes us! Also loved the narrators.
Oh I have missed these two characters so much! Isolde is now queen and finally figuring out who she really is but she is also dealing with the betrayal of her father and unsure who her true Allies are in Revekka. But that does not stop this woman from being a force to be reckoned with. There is so much betrayal and conflict from people Adrian and Isolde have trusted and that only adds to the constant obstacles this couple faces daily. I love that Adrian owns up to his mistakes and is so patient with Isolde while she navigates her new life as queen. We also get Adrian’s POV and see that the goddess DIS is really starting to have a hold on him and ultimately his life with Isolde. Getting to see Adrian and Isoldes( Yesenias) past life together was also everything! So bittersweet. It really shows how long Adrian’s been fighting for them. The story ended with a huge cliffhanger and I was so shocked! I cannot wait for the next book! I need more Adrian and Isolde🔥
I think that the author went back a step from the first one. The characters didn’t feel the same in this book and not in a good way. I got bored at one bit and stopped listening. I’m still interested but maybe not an immediate pick up.
Hi. It's me. A Scarlett St. Clair junkie. I knew I was going to love this, and I decided to try out the audio for it. I REALLY loved it. This book was definitely a middle book. you can tell things are being set up, and not a TON happens.. but I loved it still. And once again I have to sit and ponder life while waiting for the next book..
3.5 stars, rounded up.
I absolutely loved the first book and was so so so excited to get an ARC of the second!! However, it just didn't do it for me like the first one did. I felt like some of the character development that happened in the first book went away in the second. Isolde and Adrian (especially Adrian) were almost one dimensional during parts of this book.
And the plot, it just wasn't there? 98% of the book could be summed up with: Isolde and Adrian fought then had makeup sex. That's about it. That last 2% of the book though... It definitely set the next book up well....I'm hoping lol.
With all of this said though, I never thought about DNFing this book because I've loved everything else by the author and am still invested in the story. I really hope with the way the next book was set up, it will more than make up for this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
SCARLETT STOP. I'm not reading it for the smut, I'm reading it for the DRAMA. Still waiting for "A Touch of Chaos".
This one just wasn't for me. I loved the first book, but could not get into this one. I plan to try to pick this back up in physical book form later in the year since I really did enjoy the characters and the world, but for now it's a DNF.
This is the perfect sequel to King of Battle and Blood, while this suffers from the "second book syndrome" it was still a very interesting book and I was hooked from the start.
I really enjoyed how the plot evolves, both in the romance and the political sense. I loved the other plot, if you catch my drift, I mean vampires and spice, I don't need much more than that.
The MCs are as lovely as I remembered, and I can't wait to see how St.Clair explains the two big mysteries we are left with at the end of this!
This was such a good listen!! I am in love!! Scarlett is such a good writer & she didn't disappoint with this one!! I couldn't stop listening to this & finished it in one day. All my friends will love this book. I have nothing bad to say about it!!

Book 2 in the series. This follows the beloved couple from book one.
What happened to the characters, though?
Isolde, for the most part, was annoying. And not in a misunderstood heroine sort of way. More like an immature, can’t do anything without thinking first and being unnaturally naive way.
There were a few unexpected plot twists, but they fell flat. The best part of this book was the last few pages. For real. Read the first few pages and then skip to the end and you will be fine!
I explained the plot of this book, out loud to a friend, and the more I spoke, the more ridiculous I realized it sounded. It also makes me sad that every relationship either of the main characters attempts to build, turns into betrayal. Anyway…
There’s also a LOT of spice. At many inappropriate times.
I’m still read book three, but this left a lot to be desired.
It took me a while to get through this audiobook. I only realized 20% it was the second book of the series. It did damper my experience and I think I should've done some research before starting it. So I went back read the first book then came back to "Queen of Myth & Mothers". The audiobook performance was great which elevated the story. The overall plot was straight-forward and pacing was nice. However it was a average read for me.
My expectations were way too high. It’s a me problem. If you go in expecting that, then maybe you’ll enjoy this more than me. I, however, did not have a good time.
I enjoyed listening to the audiobook while reading the physical copy together. The story takes place immediately after the attack. I enjoyed the story and the increasing love between Adrian and Isolde, while Isolde grows into a powerful Queen. I would highly recommend it.
The overall plot moves very quickly, but I think this one lives up to book 1. I wish the scenes with the main pairing were a bit longer though.
Such an amazing narration for this must read book! I could not stop listening! This audio accompanied with my physical book made my experience of this story coming fully alive.
Thank you to Tantor Audio for an eALC of the audiobook for Queen of Myth and Monsters!
I think the experience of listening versus reading really made the 4-star rating for me. Otherwise, I probably would have given 3 stars. Lilly Drakes voice is soothing and enchanting, Curt Bonnem is phenomenal, as usual. However, I do think this book was a little too spicy for me (crazy concept, I know!!!), especially when I was expecting more plot, especially when compared to the first book. I feel like this was spicy filler until the last bit of the book. I cannot wait until the next book though!
This sequel picks up shortly after the end of the first book, with Isolde becoming accustomed to her new role and starting to learn more about her husband and his country. A betrayer is still loose and Isolde and Adrian are wary at every turn through politics, war, and a divine struggle.
All the things I didn't love about the first book are very prominent in this book - the acceptance of brutality and violence and lack of chemistry. But added was a bit of a middle book syndrome. I wasn't invested in the story and the politicking. I missed the plucky Isolde from book 1, because in this book she seemed like she made poor decisions. I also didn't love the transitions that she goes through, it felt a bit over the top.
The questioning of what makes monster and the interface between the divine and mortal realms have the potential to get interesting, but weren't yet. This is filled with some very spicy spice and its there in abundance, but as I wasn't enjoying the chemistry, it just felt superfluous and just there to help the characters work out problems or work off steam without discussing anything. Anyway, unfortunately not for me.
Thank you to Netgalley and Tantor Audio for the advanced copy of the audiobook!
This book just missed the mark for me. None of the characters were likeable, and their development over the course of the book didn't improve them. Adrian and Isolde's relationship felt like it was crumbling rather than building, and I just couldn't root for them in their toxic cycle of fight and make up. The spicy scenes were repetitive and added nothing new. The plot feels confused and unfocused. The story did have some good twists towards the end, but by that point it felt like they were just muddying the story even further. I really enjoy spicy fantasy reads, but this just missed on every front for me.
1.5/5
I did not enjoy this book at all, give me substance, give me anything. All they did was fight and "make-up". If that your kind of book then you will love this! Maybe my expectations were too high but I was hoping for more. I DNF after about 40% of the book. I just couldn't listen to it any longer. The narrator wasnt bad the plot was just lacking.
Thank you Netgalley for gifting me a copy of this audio book in return for my honest opinion.
