"The world is afraid of powerful women."

This is the entire theme of this book, this series. Yes, we are getting a fantasy and romance. Witches and Monsters and Vampires. But we are also getting a real look at how women are held down, made as concubines, burned at stakes because of their power.

This one picks up days after we left off in King of Battle and Blood. While it may feel like nothing has changed, so much changes in this book with our characters because of those final pages in KBB.

There is going to be such a deep betrayl. It's going to hurt. But the threads are there the whole time if you pick at the right ones. My mouth still dropped open at the reveal.

The path our beloved characters take is dark. At times I wanted to shout at Scarlett because how can she do this to her readers?! But I am trusting her and the process.

Things that had me questioning my favorites all made sense towards the end. I mean, there's obviously going to be unanswered things because we have another book coming in this series. And I don't know why I bothered to read this one when who knows that one will come out because the pain! Is it possible that I look forward to the conclusion of this series more than her A Touch of Darkness series? Maybe. Are you well? No Scarlett, I am not well at this moment.

All the stars in the sky
Are not as bright as my love for you.

I tried, I really did. But a quarter of the way into a sequel and I still do not give a single shit about any of these characters. Not a single one. Which is truly insane and has never once happened to me; I find it incredibly easy to get invested in characters and even focus a lot more on them than the actual plot. But here, both were just disappointing.
The sex scenes were incredibly cringey (even more so because I heard them instead of reading them, and felt forced; like they were included only for the sake it, which I would ordinarily love, but here it just felt weird and annoying.
Nothing about this sequel, as much as I could read it, worked. It just felt like it was being dragged on and on and on and fucking on.

The Queen of Myth and Monsters was an exciting, and steamy sequel, and I enjoyed continuing Isolde and Adrian’s story. Isolde and her vampire king have many foes trying to destroy them, including a traitor in their inner circle. This book had tons of action written as grand battle scenes, and the magic and different creatures kept me guessing. The Queen absolutely contained mature themes - it was incredibly sexy, with lots of different settings, almost to the point that it no longer added to the story. Overall, I would recommend - it was a fun, sexy read.

An amazing sequel to a great first book! I’m enamored with Adrian and Isolde!

Scarlett writes such badass, strong female main characters. FMCs that don’t stand for disrespect, especially from their lovers. I will never not read a Scarlett book!

The narrator was fantastic. The story moved the series forward. It was happy, funny, heart breaking, and overall amazing.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bloom for the early copy of the audiobook for an honest review.

”This world thought they knew a conqueror when Adrian had been born, but they had yet to feel my wrath.”

This was…wow. I am unwell. Queen of Myth and Monsters was dark, heart-wrenching, and exquisite. I love Scarlett’s writing and I adore Adrian and Isolde, even more so in this book than the first. I listened to this on audio and both narrators were fantastic—Lilly Drake and Curt Bonnem brought one of my favorite couples to life and absolutely nailed it.

“I am of the house of Lara, daughter of Elvira of Nalani, sister of witches, and I have come to reclaim my crown.”

Isolde’s character development was fantastic. Left reeling from the ultimate betrayal in KOBB, she’s left to put the pieces back together and embrace her role as queen. While she stumbled along the way, I really enjoyed watching her grow and learn to ask for help, find forgiveness (or a least understanding) for those who had wronged her, and embrace who she is destined to be. My heart absolutely ached for her as she ultimately experienced betrayal once again.

“I had always thought he was beautiful, even when he was my conquerer. Now, I loved him, and he was somehow more stunning.”

I was obsessed with Adrian in KOBB—exceptionally morally charcoal, a smooth talker, and a man who could do no wrong in my eyes. We again got more of his development in this book and while he dove further into treachery and ruthlessness, I still found myself drawn to him and intrigued by his being. I desperately want his happy ending but am so scared to know the cost in the next book.

While there was PLENTY of hot, spicy goodness, the continued world building and conflict throughout the plot was still ever present and had me on the edge of my seat at the turn of every page. The cliffhanger at the end left me screaming and full of questions. Book three absolutely cannot come soon enough.

Thank you to Tantor Audio and Netgalley for providing me with an Audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I wanted an ARC of this book so badly and so when I saw an audio arc for request I grabbed it because I couldn’t wait any longer for this book. I thought it was a decent sequel and I do look forward to book 3 whenever it comes out. This book had a great continuation of the romance in book 1 and the twists I didn’t seem coming.

This was the first audiobook I actually liked the male narrator in as the only one I have read with a male narrator in the past I didn’t like. But both of the narrators were amazing and I really liked them for this book. I don’t know how I feel about reading spicy audiobooks still because it was slightly weird to me but I’ll give it another try eventually.

I recommend this series to those who have liked Scarlett St. Clair’s other books or enjoy Vampire fantasy romance.

This was a shorter review just because of time with the holidays but I want to reread the book eventually and I’ll probably update this then.

✨ Queen of Myth and Monster ARC Review✨
Author: Scarlett St. Clair
Genre: Fantasy Romance

Welllll… she did it again. I am in love with Adrian & Isolde yet again. I am a sucker for vampires and witches so this series with the gods, fighting, and tension was EVERYTHING. Adrian has the ability to read Isolde’a thoughts and personally I feel like that would get me in so much trouble 😅😅 Isolde is a badA FMC and she is one lucky girl 🫠🫠 the spice between them is dangerously HOT 🥵

This audiobook has a dual narrator and it’s done beautifully. I would recommend audio if that’s what you like listening to 😊

Thank you netgalley for this audioARC the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Read if you like:

I’ll be the first to admit that King of Battle and Blood didn’t live up to the incredibly high expectations I had for it, but the end felt like a powder keg about to explode which left me with even higher expectations for Queen of Myth and Monsters. I can honestly say this book exceeded any expectations I had for it FAR above and beyond anything I had imagined. All I can say is brace yourself…the twists will come, and they will hit you like a punch to the gut every time!!

We pick up where we left off in the aftermath of KBB’s ending revelations and immediately are thrown into action, emotion, pain, anger, frustration, and of course spicy spicy spice. I absolutely loved the dynamic and the push and pull between Adrian and Isolde. They almost read as a seasoned married couple, fighting passionately and then making amends even more so…if your average old married couple were also dealing with a rushed arranged marriage, extensive past trauma, gods and witches trying to destroy them and the world, and a few other magical twists and turns that made their storyline absolutely delightful. They just felt so genuine and real. The depth of their feelings and how they are these incredibly strong and ruthless beings who still needed to learn how to communicate with each other honestly was phenomenal. It’s not often you get to see these topics explored in such a power couple. I absolutely loved it and appreciated seeing the struggles in love play out within the bond of a forever love. It hit me deeply and I’m going to be thinking about it for a long time to come.

Isolde. I could write this entire review about how much I adore her. Lilly Drake did an absolutely excellent job bringing her strength, her fears, her pain, and her raw emotion to life in the audiobook and every inflection in her voice only drove Scarlett’s incredible words straight through your heart. Isolde was always strong and she is only more fierce and stubborn in this book, but the growth she goes through is truly breathtaking. I can’t go into details on everything I loved without straying into spoiler territory but the overarching themes of what is and is not a monster, justice being served and the layer of not regret but remorse and understanding that comes after, the role of women in the world and what we are made to do and be, and seeing life and hope and warmth and sunlight through nothing but absolute carnage, death, and desolation. I just have no words. Such a phenomenal character and a powerful, powerful story.

I believe there were only 3 or 4 chapters from Adrian’s POV and while I loved getting inside his head, which helped with the story tremendously, I feel like the audiobook narrator for him fell a bit flat leaving me feeling a bit disconnected. It wasn’t bad at all, it just couldn’t touch Lilly Drake’s mastery of Isolde’s POV. As far as the spice goes you should know by now that if you’re reading a Scarlett book there is a TON of spice and she more than earns her crown as Queen of Fantasy Smut with this one. I will say though for as much as there was and for how repetitive it seemed at times (take a shot every time you hear the word “cock”), it was ENTIRELY a part of who Adrian and Isolde are as a couple and I loved that where words failed them sometimes they could still come back together and show their love and their dedication to each other with their bodies, because let’s be real sometimes words are only going to make it messier. Sometimes you don’t need flowery speeches and excellent dialog to solve an argument, sometimes you just need to go back to the raw nature of it all and let your bodies do the talking and mending. And again, it was another layer of the couple/married couple dynamic that you don’t see explored much and I loved it!!

The end was not super cliffhanger-y, but with the amount of story and everything coming to a head within the last 25% of the book I was left begging for more, less for answers and more because I desperately need MORE. I’m am so invested in, in love with, and nervous for Adrian and Isolde, and I cannot wait to see how their story concludes in the next book.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, RB Media, Bloom Books, and the author for providing an advanced copy of the audiobook for review. It is one of the easiest audiobooks I’ve ever listened to, one of the easiest 5 stars I’ve given out this year, and easily one of my favorite books of the year. All of the stars in the sky!!

5/5 ⭐️ 3/5 🌶️

I finished this audio book a couple hours ago and I still can’t stop thinking about it. I’m shook with the ending and the events that played out. I’d like to first start out by saying the audio narratives were really good. I enjoyed the emotions they portrayed with their voices and it had me captivated. This book has dual POV and I absolutely loved that.

This is the second book in Isolde and Adrian’s story and it did not disappoint. I absolutely love how strong and fierce Isolde is and how she literally takes no shït from anyone even her husband. She’s a baddie and I was here for all of it. I also loved all of the character development from her to Adrian to the side characters. I didn’t like Killian at all in book 1, but in this book he truly redeemed himself and I hope he gets a happy ending in this series too.

The story really plays out well and I couldn’t pit the book down. I want more on Adrian and his powers. I want more on Dis and how she controls him too. I loved his and Isolde’s relationship growth and the way he apologized when he messed up. I only wish they would have communicated a little more. There were so many twists that surprised me and a couple that I guessed too. I honestly can’t wait for the next book and I hope we don’t have to wait too long for it.

Well, I thought this series was just a duology but that way that ended, I'm definitely wrong! This is the second in the Adrian X Isolde series and it's more of the same. This time, though, Isolde has regained her memories and loves Adrian with all her heart. Except for the times she's constantly arguing with him. And then there's all the "making up" that happens after that. (Insatiable about covers it.) They also have to constantly watch their backs because they don't know who to trust. It's very convoluted and messy. Everyone close to them is suspect. Hoping this concludes in their favor.

*special thanks to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for this audio arc.*

I'll start by saying that I wasn't going to continue this series but I got approved the audiobook arc for this book and decided to give it a chance. I got to 29%. A conversation happened between Adrian and Isolde, and I can not keep reading when this is a plot device that is being used over and over again.

This book starts off like maybe a few days after the first book ends. Isolde is deep within her grief after what happened with her father at the end of book 1. Adrian and her seem to be getting into arguments a lot, so it seemed to me. Like I remember in book 1 how he was supportive of her and her "unique" personality, and in this book he kind of fights her for being her. I also do not like how their past relationship keeps being brought up because Isolde doesn't have all of her memories and he does. Plus this relationship is different and even though she has the memories she isn't her past self.

Now I'm gonna get to the part where I had to DNF the book. So in book 1 Isolde had mentioned her Mother was from an island called Nalani. I think she mentioned or find out that the people from Nalani are slaves and possibly enslaved by her father or someone who is in close connections with Adrian or Adrian needs their support to "protect the kingdom. Me being Puerto Rican, I don't usually like reading about and island that is enslaved or colonized cause "hey, it's my real fucking life xx". To be honest I'm done letting it slide that the idea of an island being independent and prosperous even in fantasy setting is unrealistic and we have to be saved or protected.

Getting back to the plot of the book, Adrian still thinks that freeing Nalani is not important but Isolde, as a POC and a descendant from Nalani, wants to free them. Which makes Adrian say <spoiler>"Can you even call them yours, they do no know who you are?"</spoiler> to which Isolde gets angry at him and replied. <spoiler>"They may not know I exist and I may not know their ways but I still belong to them, more than I ever belong to you."</spoiler> and somehow that whole interaction between them felt not a fantasy moment but a real life one.

I don't think any of what turned me off is intentional, but they are unconsious biases we have. I tried to google Nalani to see if it was made up or not, the word is originally Hawaiian. I am not the right person to talk in terms of Pacific Islanders, but me as a Caribbean it's a red flag.

I did read the first book and loved it, and it took me a while to notice the themes I wasn't a fan of. I know I am not comfortable with the idea enslaved island used a a plot devise to create an argument or conflict between Adrian and Isolde. Isolde's need or want for Nalani's freedom is mentioned in almost every chapter by her.

If you just want smutty vampires and don't care about the other stuff, then you'll love this book.

3.5-4 star read. For those who loved the first book, I think this will be just as enjoyable! Isolde and Adrian are back and steamier than ever. We get chapters from Adrian's POV as well which was a nice addition. A lot of the same themes in book 1 are present in this one, although I feel this may suffer a bit from middle-book syndrome. After a while, the repetitiveness made the book drag a bit. However, I'm still invested in these character's stories and will be reading book 3!

Not what I was hoping for...

I find myself feeling bummed about this. I definitely did not enjoy it as much as book 1 and I think there are a few reasons:
- I didn't love Adrian's character development (despite knowing the reason why it was happening)
- A lot of the spice felt like filler and didn't add onto the story/relationship development
- Wish we had gotten more from Isolde's magical development - she uncovers a lot of truths and I was just hoping for more!

What I did like was the world building and the political intrigue (lots of plot twists and turns, and betrayals) and when things were good, I did like Adrian and Isolde's relationship, but overall I was just not as engaged in the plot as I had hoped to be.

Rating: 3.5 stars

Queen of Myth and Monsters picks up where we left off of King of Battle and Blood. Isolde and Adrian continue to butt heads and then make up in gloriously spicy fashion.

Scarlett St. Clair has a gift for crafting immersive worlds with intricate history and layers of storylines that keep you guessing what will happen next and who you can trust. While some questions were answered, this book left me with so many more. I cannot wait to see where this is going in the next installment.

As this was an audiobook, I would also like to add that the narrators were fantastic and brought so much emotion to the story and made it that much more enjoyable.

Thank you to Tantor Audio and NetGalley for this Audio-ARC. All opinions are my own.

If you have read the first novel and thought there weren't enough plot, well don't worry. There's enough substance and plot going to keep you captivated. From twists and turns to heart breaking moments. My only gripe is the sheer amount of steamy scenes stuffed into this novel. They definitely weren't all necessary. Sometimes less is more. Besides that, I can't wait to see how the story unfurls in the next book.

***I would like to thank NetGalley, Scarlett St. Clair (the author), and Tantor Audio for graciously sending me the audiobook to review. As always, all thoughts are my own.*

I wanted to love this because I loved the first one and I was very excited when I received the ARC. Unfortunately, this just fell flat and seems to be suffering from middle book syndrome. I was bored and unattached for the first 75% and it only picked up marginally towards the end. The pacing felt incredibly slow, bogged down with gratuitous and repetitive sex scenes (and look I love me a spicy book but there is only so many times I can hear the word “cock” before I start to lose my mind) and Isolde’s tiresome complaining. If we learned what we learned in the last 25% of the book in the first 25% instead and went from there, this could have been a fantastic duology.

I received the audiobook arc of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review.

For the audiobook part of the review: I really loved listening to the female narrator, the male however sounded a little rough. More like Batman, than sultry vampire king. If that makes any sense.. it just didn’t vibe for me on the male’s narrator’s part, luckily we didn’t get a lot of pov chapters of Adrian.

For the book review:
I really enjoyed the continuing story of Isolde and Adrian. But I did enjoy the first book better than this one. I didn’t like Adrian as much in this book. 🙈

He has some character development that I don’t think I like.. We find him saying “I’m sorry” a lot and it’s a little annoying to me.

Isolde gains some new supernatural powers that I wish we saw more of.

And there are some twisty twists and betrayals that I did enjoy.

The smut and plot seem equally included in this book. Even though the smut seems just thrown in there for fun times. But still good smut.

If you liked the first you’ll probably like this one, though I’m interested to see if people think Adrian’s likability went down, like it did for me.

A great Romantasy read though.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the advanced audiobook! I was obsessed with the first book, so I couldn't wait to see where Scarlett took us in the next book. I was not prepared.

It features the same characters we came to know in the first book, but new layers to them are being uncovered. I was very happy with where Killian goes in this one; I was rooting for him to evolve and be friends with Isolde. Our main characters, Adrian and Isolde, are continuing to figure out their relationship while they try to conquer kingdoms and find the witch that hurt them. From there anything else I would say would be a spoiler because I definitely didn't guess where this was going. I enjoyed every minute of the twists and turns and yelled "what?!" out loud four times. The ending and bonus chapter left me very unwell and in desperate need for the next book. We also get a few chapters from Adrian's POV and reminded me of Scarlett's Hades and Persephone series, because the male POV gives us extra insight into his world and thoughts and adds depth to his character.

Scarlett St. Clair knocked this one out of the park! Adrian and Isolde are my favorite power couple, and having them back in book two, Queen of Myth and Monsters, was amazing. I read book 1 as an e-book, so switching it up and listening to book 2 was a nice change of pace, though I had to wear headphones for the many spicy bits. The female narrator Lilly Drake has a beautiful, smooth tone of voice, and does different voices very well. I also enjoyed the male narrator Curt Bonnem, though his female voices were not as impressive. The overall story had me gripping the edge of my seat, so many twists that I didn't expect! I can't wait for book three. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Thank you to Tantor Audio and Netgalley for the advanced audio copy of this book.
