Summer is in full swing as tourists flock back to the Northwoods and travel to Lofty Pines, Wisconsin. For Rain Wilmot, owner of the Lakeside Library, this is the perfect opportunity to bring back her mother’s summer book club. But the summer sun starts to really heat up when one of the club’s members, Lily Redlin, is found dead in her own home not long after the first meeting. I love this series the location, characters and all the adventures. It took me a while to guess the murderer. Rain, Julia and Marge all are friends that I would love to have. Finally Rain and Jace are moving outside the friend zone. Benzo is a great addition to this amazing family of characters.

Rain Wilmot runs the small Lakeside Library in Lofty Pines, a town in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. The library is in a log cabin that belonged to her great grandfather. She is assisted in the library by her best friend Julia and Marge, an older lady who is becoming increasingly forgetful. Rain has decided to start a book club, with their first title being Agatha Christie's "Sparkling Cyanide." The book club meets and after the members introduce themselves to one another, the discussion becomes somewhat heated when one member, Lily, begins to get upset as the discussion veers off topic. The next day, Rain and Julia decide to stop by Lily's house and talk with her to make sure there are no hard feelings. They discover that Lily is dead. It soon becomes obvious that Lily's death was no accident. Even though Julia's hunky brother Jace is on the police force and investigating the murder, Rain and Julia can't help snooping around to try to figure out who committed the murder.
The book was very cozy and sweet. There are several adorable dogs that need attention and frequent walks, and all discussions involve plenty of food and drink! The book club members are all suspects, but they were briefly introduced near the beginning of the book at the first meeting, and so it was a bit difficult to keep up with who was who. I enjoyed the variety of motives that emerged from the victim's complicated life! The book has several recipes at the end for some of the food and drink mentioned in the book.
Read to Death at the Lakeside Library is the 3rd book in the Lakeside Library Mysteries. I have read this series from the beginning. it takes place in the town of Lofty Pines, Wisconsin. Rain Wilmot runs the library that her grandfather started. Her friend Julia Reynolds lives next door with her husband, Nick. . They have been friends since they were young. Rain decides that she would like to have her first summer book club. Marge Duncan works for her and is also the library treasurer. Jace is Julia's brother is a policeman. He and Rain in the story become boy and girl friend. Hannah who is a traveling nurse who is taking care of Alex Shields missed the first meeting but later joins the book club.
Julia has her first meeting of the book club. The members are Kim Rogers, Lily Redlin, Shelby Sullivan, Naomi Mosley, a realtor, Chelsea McAdams and Ruth Thompson.. There is a conflict between Lily and Kim at the first meeting. Lily is very negative. The next day Julia and Rain were concerned about Lily being upset and decide to go to her house and see if she is alright. When they go they find her door is open so Julia calls Jace and ask that he come over. While waiting for Jace they push the door open and see Lily on the floor dead. Jace and the girls go into the house and look around. They find two glasses. They also see a letter from a lawyer James R. Schultz.
Jace comes to Rain's house and has a dog named Benzo. He is a husky whose owner had been killed in an auto accident. He was taking him to the shelter but Rain decides she would like to keep him. While there Jace tells her that Lily was poisoned. He tells her that the library will have to be closed for the time being. Julia and Rain realizes that someone in the book club or connected to the library had something to do with Lily's death. There is so much that is happening in the story that it would be hard to put it all on paper. I will leave it to the reader to enjoy and find out who killed Lily and why. It builds up to an exciting ending that leads the reader on an adventure.
Thank you NetGallely and Crooked Lane Books for this ARC.
Loved this one!! It’s the third in the series and i think it’s the best one yet. The characters are so fun and I love feeling like I am joining in on their mystery solving adventures. I can’t wait for the next one!!
I cannot resist a book with the word "library" in the title...this is a cozy mystery that is difficult to put down. Curl up in a comfy chair, beside a blazing warm fire, with a cup of steaming herbal tea...be transported for an afternoon to the setting in this book. Lakeside Library. The main character, Rain, is intriguing and quirky. The characters come alive on the pages of this book. It is fiction that reads like nonfiction. I can imagine being at the Lakeside Library with Rain and her friends. OOPS. a body...a mystery...intrigue...solving the mystery. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author...
It’s summertime and Rain Wilmot is hosting her first book club meeting in Lofty Pines, Wisconsin. Rain runs Lakeside Library in her great grandfather’s original log cabin alongside Marge and Rain’s friend Julia.
Following an argument between the book club members one of them turns up dead in her house. Turns out she was poisoned. Who killed her and why?
Recipes include Authentic Wisconsin Old-Fashioned Cocktail, and Marge’s Salted Caramel Apple Pie The Crust.

I absolutely loved this book! I loved the relationship between Bailey and granny bee! That family dynamic where you will do whatever it takes to help a family member in need is what makes the passion through out the book so palpable and intense. I’m an avid reader or suspense/mystery and this is up there with one’s I couldn’t deny how well the plot was developed!
