Yet another book in the Little People, Big Dreams series  - this one tells the story of Shakira! How she grew up loving belly dancing and the stage (much to the annoyance of her classmates, at times!) and how she started to play guitar and write poems to help her family heal.  Shakira also wanted to be a good person in addition to being successful and made a promise to herself that she would help the orphans.  Once she found some success with her music after she released a few albums, she started a foundation to help bring education to those in her hometown as well as Hispanic children all over the Americas. This is a wonderful story of perseverance and success told in such a way that it would inspire any child!

I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review. I was not otherwise compensated.

Shakira is one of the most iconic people of our times. This books shows that she is just not a big singer but also a kind human being who cares about the children of world.
Hope children reading this book will also learn no matter how big you become the little things you do for others make a real human .

This book is fantastic! It's a perfect biography for children to learn about one of the most influential Latinas in history. The illustrations are beautiful and I love, love, love the bodies depicted in this story! They are real body shapes with thicker thighs that many of us can identify with! I also enjoy how it depicts that she had to persevere to succeed and meet her goals.

Thank you to Frances Lincoln Children's Books and to NetGalley for an ARC of this book!

I love this series and I adore that they feature BIPOC and LGBTQ+ characters. I like that it covers certain topics and frames real people as heroes for kids to look up to. Also, as a grown adult lol, I feel like these would be great collectibles for Shakira's fans! Gorgeous illustration <3

Shakira is one of my favorite singers, and I believe she is deserving of being a role model for young people aspiring to greatness. This book helped me learn more about her, and the lovely illustrations made me wish it was longer.

Shakira is a modern, up to date and relevant addition to the Little People, Big Dreams series. Her life story is one that people can relate to as she is still very much singing, dancing and in the public eye. The illustration by Laura Diaz capture Shakira well and they are bright and engaging.
The text gives the reader and insight into Shakira's childhood and how her love of music stems back to when she was a young girl.
A good addition to the award winning series.

this was such a cute read! I was familiar with the series before, so I knew roughly what to expect. It is such a nice and cute way to start learning about famous people. And even if I obviously knew some things about Shakira, I also learned new things. The story is accompanied by lovely, colourful illustrations. The only thing I can think of, is that I would have loved to have some song titles in there to connect with the readers.

I thought Shakira was an interesting topic choice for this series, especially with the legal trouble Shakira has been in. That trouble is not highlighted in the book. It seems that Shakira's life is breezed over quickly, and some parts are ignored. The extended biography in the back is better, but still lacking.

I received a free copy of, Shakira, by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoy this series of books. Shakira was born to entertain, she was born in Colombia, and as a child she learned to belly dance, write, songs, and sing. This is a great book for boys and girls.

I know the name Shakira , but have no idea who she really is.
She such a huge representative of the Latino and South American people. Shakara took her passion of music, dance and modelling to do what she loves everyday, and even though her first 2 albums flopped she never gave up.

The illustrations really help picture her home and where she comes from, which gives it such a brilliant warm atmosphere. Another great addition, teaching children never give up and follow your passion.
Also don’t forget that even though you may have fame there are people around you who have less or nothing, so try and give something back to them.

Watching Shakira perform at the Super Bowl was exhilarating. Reading more about the performer and knowing many more children will be able to read about the singer is fun. The book takes readers through her life and how she became a singer. The book fits in nicely with the rest of the series. These are very elementary/basic introductions to notable people, which have been rightfully criticized by others as reinforcing stereotypes. That said this is an introduction to the person so children can then explore other books to get a more complex understanding. The tone of the book and the illustrations resemble other books in the series. I'm not a big fan of the series name, Little People Big Dreams -- strikes me as an ableist title.

Description, takne from Netgalley
As a child, little Shakira knew she was born to be performer. Even as a little girl, she was full of natural rhythm and she was obsessed with singing, writing songs and dancing whenever she got the opportunity.

-----
Shakira is one of my favorite singers in AllTime - her fantastic voice and her dancing moves are incredible, and she is good looking too =)) It was time for her to get a Vegara book of her own =))

As I said before - what I really love about this series is, it is normally a qick read - but also interesting and very nice to look at. The illustrations are colorful and when you read them to kids you can ask a lot of questions where to find what ... Totally recommended a a gift - or collect them! They are absolutely nice to look and!

#Shakira #NetGalley - thanks!!!

Time and time again the 'Little People, Big Dreams' series prooves that even though you might have heard of a public figure as an adult, you can still be educated and inspired by their stories when told in this charming, child friendly way.
This biography again tells a story of a woman following her passion towards fame and success, in this case intertwined with a love for culture, heritage and people in general proving that Shakira is indeed more than just a singer with a talent for belly dancing.
