What an incredible comfort! Pet loss is so very sad!
What an incredible comfort when we lose a dear pet - cat, dog, horse or any other dear pet. Some people will understand if they have suffered this loss, but others that do not consider pets part of the family, will think that we are crazy and over reacting.
This is a collection of quotes from people on their love of a pet and the pain from losing them.. There is a story about Fred Rogers - Mister Rogers - I was not aware of the episode when Mr. Rogers brought death, loss and comfort into his neighborhood. This book is about letting us know that there are others that love and miss their pets. We are not alone.
This book would also be a way to comfort children when they lose a pet. I plan to keep a couple of copies of this book available for friends and family when they lose their beloved pets.
This book is a useful guide that anyone who has had pets should read. While reading this my dog was going through a traumatic experience where we were worried we would lose him, so that really made this a heart wrenching read for me. Just bad timing,
Reading this book while my dog was snuggling into me made it all the more heart wrenching to read. It is bitter sweet, finding comfort in the words of others who understand the deep pain of losing a pet who is so much more than that. I sobbed off and on throughout, happy I had my wonderful dog Bellona still with me while I read.
Pain is a private journey. People can send love and prayers but grief is travelled alone. The loss of a pet is very personal one. Some people don’t understand, some do. This being spends its entire life with you. We sadly only get to spend a short walk with them. This book was beautifully put together, offering words of wisdom from all views of the animal world. It’s something that can be picked up, to remind you of the why and the love. To love is to except the pain that eventually comes with it. This book is a great little thing that can be there when you need to feel and remember.
While the book does not offer specific ways to deal with the loss of a pet, it does have stories of others who have suffered the same loss. It is helpful to not feel alone during such a difficult time.
As someone who recently had to put two cats down I found this book to be extremely comforting. Pets play such a vital role in our lives and give us unconditional love. This book is a collection of quotations to help provide comfort when someone loses a pet. I really enjoyed it and connected to the book. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC.
This was a really interesting book. The quotes and stories of famous people and their pets highlighted how similar we all are when it comes to loving our pets. I’ve lost several pets through my life and the last 2 were about 3 years ago. I could read this and take comfort in the words. For me, I think this would be too difficult to read immediately after losing a pet. I recommend this book.
Thank you to the author, Simon & Schuster, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is a wonderful book for lovers of animals and pet owners. Pets play such a vital role in our lives and once they enter, they never our hearts.
Touching and inspiring, some will make you cry, especially if you’ve recently lost a pet. But that’s the magic of sharing life with a pet, isn’t it? Your heart breaks and is pieced together each time you open yourself to love.
The Book of Pet Love and Loss is a beautiful tribute to the grief we feel after losing a beloved companion. Through stories and quotes it touches more on the beauty of the human animal bond than on grief. In a way, this reminded me of all the wonderful things that come with loving animals which is worth more than the price we pay when we lose them. This book is not a “how to” on dealing with grief but rather a reminder that to experience loss in this way means to have loved in one of the purest ways. As a veterinarian who is there at the very beginning of grief, I am grateful that Sara Bader has taken the time to put this collection together. I am glad to soon have this source of comfort to share with others who have experienced this kind of suffering.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read an ARC of this book.
The Book of Pet Love and Loss by Sara Bader is a consoling book that includes tender hearted letters, diary entries, memories, personal writings and pictures of well known people including Robert Frost, Amy Tan, Helen Keller, Emily Dickinson, Fred Rogers, Jane Goodall, Charles Schulz, Truman Capote, John Steinbeck Billie Holiday, Beatrix Potter, Fiona Apple, Cesar Milan, Ann Patchett and more. It’s a tribute to their words and animals they loved so fiercely.
I lost my handsome furry best friend a week ago and am heartbroken. This book was comforting to read and share in the grief and memories of others who have lost their furry friends/family members.
Thank you to Sara Bader and Simon & Schuster for this ARC!
this is the perfect, quick read for those who are grieving the loss of a pet! each work had me emotional because there truly is nothing like the love of a pet and even though my beloved cat passed over 5 years ago, some wounds never truly heal all the way.
Pet lovers should always have this book on their shelf!
This is a book of pet related qutations.
There's no specific order to read it, you'll love everything you see.
It is a quite easy reading, but definitely not a light reading.
When talking about the death, it is always heavy. But this book still find a way to teach us how to handle the griefs.
It's helpful for pet lovers.
My cat Luna passed away 1 year ago and I still think about her. I’m so grateful to NetGalley for giving me this ARC. This is something that I’ve been needing to read to awhile to let myself heal. If you are going through the loss of a beloved pet I highly recommend this book.
My beloved toy maltese passed away almost a year ago. Although I have owned dogs continuously since I was twelve, this loss cut especially deep. Weighing about five pounds, Peanut was the first small dog I ever owned that I could pick up and cuddle with. I was his person, and his favorite thing to do was lay on me while I relaxed in my recliner reading. His beauty was unrivaled, his love for me complete. I've listened to podcasts for pet bereavement and skimmed a couple of books on the subject, but understood the stages of grief and was just looking for some commiseration, I suppose.
This book was the outgrowth of the author looking for the same balm after the loss of her cat Snowflake in 2012. She reached for "small portions of literary nourishment that would provide solace and perspective without requiring sustained concentration". She culled together musings from famous cultural figures such as Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers Neighborhood), James Stewart, Ann Patchett, Raymond Chandler, Charles Schultz (of PEANUTS fame), Fiona Apple, Amy Tan, Billie Holiday, Helen Keller, Liberace, Keith Richards, Patti Smith, Oprah Winfrey- and many, many more- regarding their thoughts of grief following the death of their pet. There are also many photos of said celebrities with their pets, and some pages are just enlarged quotes from these cultural figures that are quite touching, profound- and so relatable. I found myself wistfully smiling and tearing up in kinship with these people who I never met mourning and saluting their pets, and it made me feel less alone in my grief. This was a lovely book and a great resource for people who don't want to read something cold and clinical outlining the stages of grief, but something very human and relatable as if commiserating among friends.
Thank you to the publisher Simon and Schuster for providing an advance reader copy via NetGalley.
This book came along at the best time for me. I’ve experienced so much pet loss in the last few months. This book offered real life advice, encouragement, and ways to cope. The author really understands that these furbabies are parts of our family and losing them creates huge holes in our hearts. I recommend this for all pet lovers and owners! Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this ARC!
I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this one. It's a book about the love of pets, more than loss, to me. Yes, loss is there, but the love shines brighter than the sorrow. It's nice to know that I'm not alone in mourning pets (cats) that have been gone for 40 years.
If you consider your pets a family member (not "like' a family member), you will enjoy this book.
Make sure a box of tissues is nearby!
I really loved reading this collection of quotes and stories about the influence of our pets on our lives. I lost my sweet pup last year, and it was such a difficult experience. Finding this book helps me feel a little less alone!
A truly beautiful collection of works from all different backgrounds that evoke deep emotional connections. Any reader young or old will gain a new perspective about their loyal, furry companions.
The Book of Pet Love and Loss by Sara Bader is marketed as a powerful collection of quotations by writers, leaders, and legends on the pain of losing a pet and overcoming grief.
For me, this was an okay read. I thought it would be a bit more insightful. I enjoyed reading some stories about pet owners and how they navigated their loss.
There were some great quotes and sentiments about pet loss that touched my heart. I recently unexpectedly lost my 10.5-year-old Shepherd, and I guess I was looking for more from this book.
I would give this 4 out of 5 stars because it is comforting to hear other stories of pet loss and to know you are not alone in grieving your pet.
