I requested this book as the synopsis sounded super interesting! However, the execution did not match. There were many things wrong with this book.
Firstly, I did not enjoy Detwiler's style of writing. As a reader, I felt belittled. It was just terrible.
Secondly, there was no mystery or intrigue. In the first little bit of the book, it becomes really obvious who the killer is - for most books, the obvious person is never "it" , otherwise the entire story is boring and predictable. But NOPE, the killer is the obvious person from the beginning. Why? Such a poor choice.
Besides from being predictable, the book was also very unrealistic to the point where it was just plain stupid. Who doesn't call the police when they find a hand in a box?
Lastly, why were there so many characters and POVs? It made the book super hard to follow along and just created a messy plot line for no real reason.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.

Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy of this book.
This is the first in a series of five books. There were a lot of characters in this book. It made it hard to follow at times. I did enjoy the plot and it took me a while to figure out who the killer was. The ending i felt was left unfinished which makes me want to read the next book in the series.
This brilliant series is off to a promising start. The author draws you in and captivates you. It's the story of Becky trying to get a fresh start by taking on a new job even though she doesn't fit in. She's hoping to leave her baggage behind but it isn't going to happen. She's in over her head. I couldn't put this one down. I'm anxiously waiting for the next one to come out.
Fast paced, employees in a small company face different trials. Being the first of five books, we will see what else is to come!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This was a quick read. It was ok but not my favorite
This is a quick and fast paced read. It centers on the employees of a small publishing company, all who are doing things they shouldn’t be doing, in various degrees of badness. We know there is a killer and we get chapters told from that person’s childhood, which we can use to guess which of the current employees might be that person.
None of these characters is likable but I didn’t mind that. More villains means more guesses as to who the killer could be. Though the author didn’t get really deep into each character’s background, I got enough to figure out what made them all tick. When the villain was unveiled, I can’t say I was totally surprised but also didn’t guess in advance because it was laid out in a way that it could’ve been multiple people. The twist at the end was fun and even though I don’t love reading series, I’ll probably see where the author goes with the next book in this one.
Overall, this was a fast paced thriller with lots of action and was a fun read overall. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thankyou to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this ARC.
This book had twists and turns and keeps you guessing.
You found yourself constantly trying to guess who the killer is.
The plot was very interesting.
This is my first title by this author and will be on the look out for more.
Thankyou 3/5 stars.
This was my first book by LA Detwiler. I found the plot well developed and the character development written well. I was interested in the ending from the moment I started the book. I didn’t see the twists coming.
I’m not normally a series book reader but I can’t wait to read others in the series and more books by this author.
This was a pretty good story. I love the way the author reveals a tiny piece of information at a time. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
This was my first book by LA Detwiler and it will not be my last!
A great 5 star read that kept me guessing and had me hooked until the end. I can't wait to read the other books in this series.
Becky's new job at Evermore Publishing gets off to a disturbing start when a severed hand is delivered to the office. We learn that there is a killer who plans to kill someone in the office, one of the five people who bullied them in the past. I kept reading to find out who the victim would be and of course who the killer was. A suspenseful if implausible read.

My Thoughts::
This is book 1 of the The Chameleon Killer Chronicles Book series. I enjoyed this thriller, the entire story there was good character development, and I kept thinking the killer was someone entirely different than it ended up being.
There were some moments that ended up being boring for me.. but I was determined to finish to find out what the end of the story would be.

When a new girl, Becky Rusett, joins the Evermore Publishing team, she’ll start to realize no office setting is as safe as it appears. The secrets, lies, and underhanded dealings of the publishing house are unsettling enough–but now some sinister events are putting the entire office in real danger. Decades before Evermore Publishing existed, a group of five mean-spirited children terrorized a young child in a small town. The Fab 5, as they were called, set off the chain of events that would lead to the horrific events at Evermore. But what’s their connection to the New York City bookworms…and can anyone solve the mystery before there’s a brutal murder? I wanted to love this book based on the premise alone since I come from a publishing background but there was just way too much going on in this story. It got confusing early on and didn’t seem to make any effort to clarify things. The storyline was compelling but often got lost with the multiple narrators and way too many characters. I really like this author and hope this is just a one-off. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.
Thanks to the author and Netgalley for the chance to read Five will die by L.A. Detwiler. Unfortunately this book was not for me. I found the premise interesting but there was too many characters/POV introduced in each chapter. Once I put the book down, I had a hard time picking it back up. 21/2 stars rounded up to 3.
Riveting, suspenseful and full of shocks!! This book was crazy for the first page and I couldn’t put it down!
I have read other books by L. A. Detwiler and really enjoyed them this book is not one of them. I couldn't like any of the characters in any way. It’s about a small-time publisher and the employees. They were all flawed, and most of them criminals, none were likable and there was no rooting for the good guy as there wasn't one. It's a twisted drawn-out tale of plotting murder and self-serving people. The book is the first of a series but I know I won't read the next ones. It just didn't have enough that interested me. Sure you wanted to know who the killer was but you also wanted the story to move along to get to the main plot. The story is told in two eras, past and present, it's told by more than one character plus the unknown killer. Thank you, NetGalley and author L. A. Detwiler for this eARC
Five Will Die by L.A. Detwiler was sinister and twisted in the best way possible. There are alternating MC first person POVs as well as flashback chapters and “The Killer” POV interspersed. Everyone has a shady or traumatic past. Everyone is a suspect. There are several twists and turns throughout that lead you to the cliffhanger ending. I typically wouldn’t love an open ending but I was excited to learn that there will be more books in this series. The second book, Four Will Die, is set to be released July 3, 2023 according to the Amazon listing.
This book does a great job introducing all the characters and establishing an unreliable narrator. I found myself second guessing the true nature of each character and analyzing their likelihood of being The Killer. Certain twists weren’t shocking and others were unexpected. Overall, it was a very thrilling and dark read. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next in this series.
he publishing industry is murder–no, literally in this book it’s murder. Evermore Publishing is a small publishing company that is somehow keeping the doors open despite the fact that it seems there are only a few people semi-serious about working there. When new girl Becky is hired, she comes in on the worst day possible–when several threats appear. Having a mysterious past herself, she wonders if somehow she brought it with her.
I found that this was a fast read. It got a little confusing when it was switching perspectives but it was for this reason it made the book more interesting. I’ve never quite come across this kind of style before. There are 3 perspectives that the book is written from: one is from the named view of one of the people working at Evermore, one of the people at Evermore’s past self (though only entitled as the past but not whose past), and then the killer. It continuously swaps between these three types of perspective. To be honest, the more you learn about everyone, the less sure you are that anyone is going to make it out of Evermore alive.
The book left me with a few questions left unanswered, but as it’s a series these may be answered in the next book. It did leave us with a very interesting twist. We’ll see how the next book takes up the rest of the story and what is left to tell.
This is the first book I have read by L.A. Detwiler so it always takes a little time to get the swing of a new author. That being said this author has way to many characters to the point readers will be lost on who is who. The author uses chapters to introduce characters and their point of views as well as the killers point of view. For this reader this made it difficult to remember the characters purpose and secret. It also became a distraction as well as several spelling errors I came across.
While the moves along well enough and the plot is interesting but the switching back and forth between so many characters ends up causing more of a headache and less enjoyment while reading L.A. Detwiller Five will Dive.
Thank you to Netgalley for advance copy of the book.
