Ali Hazelwood always kills it truly! Yes, her books are a little formulaic...but it is a formula that WORKS and I eat it up every damn time.

First I’d like to thank the publisher and author for sending me a digital review copy of this book.
Elsie is a theoretical physicist. 15 years ago, when Elsie was in middle school an article got published by Jonathan Smith-Turner that brought the theoretical side of physics down. Ever since that day she hated the guy. Now she is working as an adjunct in three different colleges. Unfortunately these jobs have a low paycheque and no health insurance. Which is a little problematic for her. Elsie is a Type 1 diabetic. She has a pump for insulin which she now has to pay from her own pocket.
Since insulin is expensive, she and her friend Cece get a side job at Faux. Where people pay to be their fake girlfriend. Greg is her favourite cliënt, which made her decide to go on multiple ‘dates’. Greg brings her to a fee family gatherings to keep the family off his back. At these gatherings is also Greg his older brother, Jack. According to the clause of Faux, she can’t share real things from her life, so she has to make up a story about her job, a librarian.
That’s until she gets a job offer for her dream job at MIT. She’s invited to join a dinner to get to know everyone. While there she hears from Monica that Jonathan also works at MIT.
When they’re ready to sit at the table Jonathan arrives and she is shocked to see who is in front of her…
I absolutely loved this book, it was so good. Just like every other book I read from Ali. I enjoyed everything about it. Elsie got me from the start. But when she didn’t want to tell Greg’s secrets to safe her own ass, I knew it was a character I would enjoy throughout the book. The changes Elsie made to become who she wanted to be. The way Jack was with her, his patience. Also very cool Olive and Adam were in one of the scenes and the mention of Bee. It all fitted perfectly. Can’t wait to see what Ali gives us next.
I hesitated to start this because I stalled early on in Love On The Brain, but I was looking for a new audiobook and this was magically available at the library.
Look, I don't know how I would have done with text, but Therese Plummer narrates the fuck outta this book. I had thee best time. Elsie is frustrating and annoying and absolutely delightful I love her, Your Honor.
And it was nice to see Olive and Adam pop up, even for a quick minute.
I think this might be my favorite of Ali's books, now?
This was a great book! The chemistry between the main characters was so good! This was such a cute story and I really enjoyed the progression of the relationship between Elsie and Jack. Jack was the best! And I loved this overall!
This is the first full length novel by Ali Hazelwood that I’ve read. If her others are anything like this one I’m sure to love them. It was a quick fluffy read that hit me in the feels. The covers of her books are so adorable I plan on buying the ones I don’t already own just to look at (haha).
Elsie having the whole fake dating services was so interesting. I have read one other book with this type of working trope and Ali definitely did it better. The whole turn of events for her “dating” life really was fun to read. I found myself laughing out loud at some of the things Elsie says, she a very comical main character, that is hard not to fall for. I loved the banter between her and Jack, it felt genuine.
The chapter headers were extremely clever. This was such a fun book, I loved the tropes and can’t wait to read more from Ali Hazelwood!
Ali Hazelwood does it again! I know I can count on Ali to bring to life a STEM-filled novel with lots of representation. I absolutely loved the growing connection between Elsie and Jack. It was great to see Elsie go after what she loves. THE BANTER!!!! Definitely the highlight of the novel, I love all the bickering. This book was simply phenomenal and I highly recommend it to everyone!
𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲: Special thanks to Ali Hazelwood for providing me an ARC copy to share my honest review.
Funny, steamy, relatable FMC, all while learning about academia and STEM! Another win for Ali and the contemporary romance world!
Ali Hazelwood has written another phenomenal STEM romcom with Love, Theoretically. I literally binged it in 24 hours and not just because of an upcoming bookclub but because I loved these quirky characters (Elsie & Jack) and was pumping my fist in the air when they finally got together. I learned so much about the world of physics and academia. Laughed out loud with the dad jokes from the faculty and gasped when Elsie’s bonus career was revealed. The thought of a tattooed physicist might just be my new dreamy book boyfriend.
Ali Hazelwood is an auto-buy author for me. You know when you find an author where their books feel like they were written just for you? That is how I feel about Ali's books. I love them so much. The character, their quirks., the plots, the romance- all of it is chef's kiss. Love, Theoretically is one of my favorite books of hers. Elsie and Jack are a perfect book couple. I loved their rivalry. I loved Jack's pining. I just loved all of it. This gave me total Love Hypothesis vibes (in a way that Love on the Brain did not)
If you liked The Love Hypothesis, you need to read Love, Theoretically. In fact, just writing this review makes me want to go back and do a re-read right now. These characters have such a hold on me. They made me fall completely in love. This is a rivals to lovers romance. Rivals because theoretical physicists and experimental physicists are bitter rivals in an academic setting. And Elsie and Jack did not disappoint. I love them both so much. This book is a smash hit for me.
Ali Hazelwoods books are always a delight. It was a fun rom com and yet littered with interesting tidbits bits of science that shows strong research. This book is a little bit nerdy and yet super steamy which is a fun and unique combination. A great read for lover of STEM and romance!
I desperately want to love Ali Hazelwood's STEM-inist romances, but I just can't get behind the science. Her dialogue and banter are top notch and I really enjoyed the way these characters grew together and as individuals. The physics element of the story just got in the way of my full enjoyment.
Ali Hazelwood writes the same thing and we eat it up every time. This one was so fun to read! Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the opportunity to read in exchange for a review!
Loved this one! I adore all of hazelwoods book and this one was just as great as the others. It was such a fun read.
Ali Hazelwood has done it again, she has given us a book full of science that is easy to understand and digest alongside a romance full of charisma, wit, and yearning. I have become a huge fan of Hazelwood due to her ability to write characters who are on or just out of science PHD track in an informative way. The science in her books always feel accessible but not elementary/condescending. This makes her characters so refreshing to read about. This book is by far my favorite by her yet and has solidified her as an auto-buy author for me.
An Ali Hazelwood never fails or disappoints; I loved as usual, all the science and humor, the romance is always top notch without being to ridiculously steamy. The plot however, is always the best. What a fun, thoughtful, and cute rom-com with all the science!!
I do like Ali Hazelwood but to be honest I am not interested in another story with a similar setting and tropes. The same way that I am uninterested in romances set in the foodie world due to them being so over saturated, I am losing interest in the grumpy/enemies to lovers academia world. If readers are not feeling the same way as me I would recommend this book to them as it is well written and cute as her others were too.
The cutthroat world of academia combined with this steamy, swoony romance is just so good. Ali Hazelwood both knows her setting and the romance world so well, and the characters radiate off the page. I truly have retained the bare minimum of knowledge from high school level physics, so the science bits don't necessarily mean much to me, but the passion the characters have for their fields DOES enhance my enjoyment of the story.
Love Ali Hazelwood's romance style with women who are smart and in charge. Love, Theoretically was no exception! Excellent read - highly recommended.
Love, Theoretically is my first time reading anything by Ali Hazelwood and I absolutely loved this story so much.
I honestly don't even know where to start. I just want to gush about what happened and all the scientific words that she perfectly inserted into this story just to give it another layer was magnificent.
Elise is a theoretical physicist and barely making ends meet, even with her side hustle. She's finally interviewing for a job that will have her breathing comfortably again and also doing what she absolutely loves - being a theoretical physicist and not teaching random classes as an adjunct professor.
Elise's side hustle comes to "bite her in the butt" when one of the professor's also happens to be the brother of one of her fake dates. But that's not all, she truly finds out who Jack is and that adds another layer to her problem.
Love, Theoretically is an interesting take on enemies-to-lovers because it's definitely more one-sided on the enemies side, but I won't say whom.
I thoroughly enjoyed Ali's writing and her ability to create quirky, nerdy characters and make them so surreal and likable. I loved every character in this book and their mannerisms.
Ali delivers an all-around phenomenal story that I could not put down. Alot of the physics stuff went over my head but it did not hinder my ability to fully enjoy this story.
This is a definite must-read and now I need to go back and read her other two books.
My favorite Ali Hazelwood book! This was enemies to lovers turned work romance that absolutely captured my heart. The challenges of women in academia was so explored so well and reminded me again how much we needed romance books with women in STEM. The chemistry was intense and this is definitely the sexiest book by this author. Jack Smith was the ultimate hero. Intelligent and caring even though we think he's a jerk at first. Once we find out that he fell first I was done. An absolutely incredible romance I can't recommend enough.
