"House Party" stands out from any anthology I've ever read, weaving its stories into a cohesive novel. I was pleasantly surprised by how well everything flowed together. Exploring the diverse characters and their individual stories was delightful, although the time constraints occasionally caused for issues with characterization. This was mainly a me problem since I would intertwine stories on occasion. Despite this, the overall experience was very enjoyable. The addition of a full cast in the audio version heightened the enjoyment even further.

House Party is a fun book! Featuring a plethora of well-known authors, the different stories flow well together, and the way that they stand alone and intertwine is very cool. This book is full of humor and heart, and features a very diverse cast of characters.

I really wanted to get to this one, as it seemed interesting. The downfall was that I requested so many ARCs that I could not get to all of them before the book was archived. If I can find this somewhere for a reasonable price, I will try to get it!

This story is told from multiple perspectives and written by multiple diverse writers. It's the story of the end of the year-end party of Chicago's Florence Hills High School. Seniors are all getting ready to go to college and start the rest of their lives, but they're also getting ready to take advantage of their final opportunities to do what they want before they all go their separate ways.

This is cute. It's not amazing, but it's cute and fun. I always think these joint-effort interwoven short story collections work well. The characters felt unique and fleshed out enough. It was campy and definitely felt like reading a teen movie. Enjoyable, but not sure it will stick with me.

HOUSE PARTY is such a fantastic concept! I loved the map of the house provided at the beginning of the book, which added so much to being able to follow the action as it flowed through the book. The characters are fully developed and very enjoyable to read. I definitely want to use this with at least one of my creative writing classes, potentially as a model for a project for them.

A very fun and interesting concept for an anthology... It was enjoyable. The stories intertwined more than I expected them to, so that was a pleasant surprise.

What a fantastic anthology!

Just the concept itself was enough to make me squeal. The individual authors definitely understood the assignment and each story is unique and enjoyable. The anthology made me feel like I was at a house party myself and going through all the feels.

I had a feeling this would be good based on the stellar list of authors, and I was right!

I loved the many first-person points of view from all of the personalities attending this party. A true cast of characters made up the attendees, and I loved getting all of their inner monologues.

This was a seriously fun read! I would love to read more collaborative stories like this, what a great idea.

I'm not sure what I expected from this, but what ever it was, it wasn't this. I'm always impressed when anthologies have interconnected stories, so I was very excited to read this. And I feel like this book takes it a step further: it's not so much an anthology as a novel with a lot of perspectives which all have been written by different authors. That sounds to me like such an elaborate project, and I'm so amazed at how cohesive the book ended up feeling. I think these authors did an amazing job collaborating and all capturing the same vibe of the party, and it was such a cool project to witness.

The one downside for me would be that none of the storylines feel very fleshed out, because there's just so many characters and they don't all get a lot of time on page. But that's the nature of a project like this, I would assume, and I did still have a lot of fun with this. It felt a lot like watching a teen movie or tv show, with so much drama and so many different characters. I could imagine this being on Netflix very easily, and I'd have a blast watching.

A Night To Remember!

Ten authors come together for one night of action that delivers a fresh, diverse collection of interwoven stories about a group of teenagers at a house party complete with DRAMA! Secrets are spilled along with booze, friendships are tested, relationships are created, first-kisses sought after, and perspectives that will have you cracking up laughing well before the stories end. House Party is about a final night before the goodbyes that come with the end of senior year from high school. It is also about the kids who have the courage to say hello to a brave new reality that's calling to them. It is a wild night and one heck of a rollercoaster ride. This book is a walking concoction of my favorite tropes including enemies to friends to lovers.

When I was told about this book I knew immediately I was going to love it. It’s edited by one of my faves and has a lot more of my faves in it too. And House Party the movie is one of my favorite movies of all time, so I knew I had to read this to compare the two lol

Since this is like an anthology, I’ll talk about the ones I liked. In my ARC and in the e-Audio it doesn’t tell me who wrote what, so I’ll just talk about the stories I liked. I loved Savoy. Y’all know my love for social media in books. And Savoy was a whole brand by some high schoolers?! Who even does that? They could have very well made a business just from that. It was pretty cool. I also looked through my ARC and found that there was a few panels in there as a graphic novel. Which I thought was cool. All the authors stayed true to themselves and I thought that was dope. I also liked the storyline about the band. I thought it was kind of weird to start a rumor in hopes that they’ll also agree to their reunion. But it was riveting to why this happened. And the mom?! Best stories EVER! lol I think I laughed the hardest when she was there. (Well besides when someone got peed on by the dog. I almost woke my son up from laughing at that lol)

What I didn’t like was the predictability. I knew where the main story was going immediately after finishing the first one. I thought it was cute yeah, but I guess I just didn’t want that. I wanted so much for things to be so different. And then from the updates when it was like nothing really happened anyway I was a little annoyed lol Why wouldn’t they let it happen with the other person if only for that night or something? The other thing that annoyed me was Dre was the one hosting but we only got a few views of him throughout the whole story. Did no one want to write the story of him? Why him and ol girl broke up? Why he was so desperate to still be the It boy and throw this big ass party. What happened to him after the freaking overflowing sink thing lol

The other thing I loved about this book was the representation. There is all types of rep in this book. And there’s even representation that’s just hardly ever seen in books, like female athletes. Even things that simple was exiting to me and I was happy to see it. There’s some Native American, non-binary, Black rep, and more.

I thought this was going to be hard to talk about because it was told from the different POVs from those who went to the party. And I think that was the coolest thing ever. We get to know so many different characters and we get to see so many different sights through the eyes of everyone. Idk it just seemed cool to me. I really loved getting to see so many different people and trying to guess who wrote what. (I’m sure it tells you somewhere but it didn’t in my e-Audio ARC.) I hope you all pick this up!

This was an entertaining collection of stories revolving around an end of the school year party. Each character is contemplating how their lives will change after high school (except 'cool mom' Carla) and getting entangled in various romances.

I sometimes got characters confused with each other since there are so many, but a few were unique enough to stand out to me. I did like bouncing around the party and seeing what various people got up to over the night. I did wish that there was a little less focus on everyone finding a partner, sometimes it's okay to be alone too!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thank you to Joy Revolution and NetGalley for the copy.

*queues up Jade's House Party playlist* Yes, I made one based on the songs mentioned in the book.
*grabs cherry strudel with extra icing packet* Because they always need more than one packet, right?
*settles in to write rave review* Oops - was that a spoiler? Please, keep reading. It'll be worth it. I swear.

AHEM! Attention everyone (and I mean everyone)! I can officially say, without a doubt, that House Party is going to be your favorite YA book of summer 2023.

If you're looking for a belly laugh, you're sure to find it in the pages of House Party.
If you're looking to have a good cry, House Party is sure to make it happen.
If you're looking for a beautifully diverse, thought-provoking, and satisfyingly fun read, pick up House Party.

I'll be honest with you right now: when I began reading this book, I thought it would be something that I enjoyed well enough but didn't necessarily connect with. I mean, it's about a bunch of teens at the biggest party of the summer. I'm someone who avoids parties like my life depends upon it. I assumed I'd live vicariously through these party people and move on with my life. This definitely wasn't the case. If you scan the first few pages and think you know where it's going, I promise you don't (and that's a good thing).

What I didn't expect in the slightest was getting totally sucked into each and every POV--and finding commonalities with nearly all of the characters. By the end of the book, it was as if these were my friends and I was walking through the (totally bonkers) night with them, not just reading about it. I felt their embarrassment, their joy, their panic, their sorrow, and their excitement. It was as if I was reliving my senior year again, which might not sound great to some people, but I enjoyed the walk down memory lane (even if my memories never included a night quite like this).

The events of this book take place over the course of one night, but none of it felt rushed. Sometimes, with novels like this, it can feel like everything happened too quickly, relationships moved too fast, and rash decisions were made. However, with this book, you understand that everyone has known each other for a long period of time. There's a maturity to it that exists outside of the pages and helps you feel more settled in the timeline set for the story.

At the time of writing this review, it's been nearly a week since I finished the book and I'm still picking up my Kindle on an almost daily basis to reread certain moments that stood out to me. No matter who you are or where you come from, you'll find that something about this book feels like home. It's truly one of a kind and I know it'll be a book that I'll turn to time and again for comfort and cheer.

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
House Party has a creative concept of bringing a number of popular YA authors from different to write different characters at a teen house party. Contrary to initial expectations, multiple perspectives recur throughout the book. I liked the choice to keep who wrote which character’s POV a secret till the end, as it allowed fans of the authors to make educated guesses.
While it does have the pitfall of stories of this fashion, in that the characters aren’t super well-developed, I liked seeing the different personalities come through in their various different cultural backgrounds and passions, as well as a mix of different formats. While the drama primarily unfolds via prose, I loved that one character’s perspective includes texting, and another has entire sections in graphic novel form.
This is a creative and ambitious endeavor, and I’d recommend it to YA readers who enjoy stories with ensemble casts and interpersonal drama.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I was interested in this book for the authors that were featured for the most part. It was a little bit confusing at times going back and forth between characters. There were times I forgot who someone was and then had to go back to a previous chapter to try to remember who they were speaking about. There were some segments I liked and others I thought were drawn out too long. Some endings seemed too abrupt and like the conflict didn’t really happen at all.

I liked the idea of a party that changed everyone’s lives and the 5 years later segment at the end was very cute. I just don’t think these types of books are really for me. I couldn’t completely get into it like I wanted to. My favorite parts were the ones with Jrue & Sadie and then with Carla the Cool Mom. This was really cute at times, however and I encourage everyone to give it a shot!!
