The Bayview murder club is back in a riveting finale. This round, they have to work together to piece together who has started a new deadly game in Bayview, but will they all make it our alive. Recommended for anyone who has started this series or who likes ya mystery thrillers.
I wasn’t sure how good this book was going to be because I loved the other 2 so much and didn’t think it could compare. Welp. I was wrong. This book perfectly wraps up the series. I loved getting to see what all the Bayview kids were up to.
I was given an Advances Reader Copy by NetGalley for an honest review.
The first two books in this series were part of our book club at school. After the second, I wasn't really sure I wanted to read another. But I'm glad I did!
This book had a solid plot and the character development was excellent. The Bayside Four (and more) have grown up.
The cheesy romance aside, the mystery and suspense were attention-gravbing. I'm glad I came back for this one.
I couldn’t wait to start this once I was approved for an ARC! This series was one that sparked my love of reading again, and I’m so grateful! Does it have its flaws? Of course, but I just love the Bayview crew so much!
This story was told from the POVs of Nate, Phoebe, and Addy. It involved about every main character you could think of EVEN Simons POV from six years before. I loved the dual timelines here. I thought they worked really well. I was worried that we wouldn’t be able to get enough time with all of our favorites, but McManus did a great job of incorporating everyone. Some had fewer time than others, but she did do a great job of making sure everyone had a role.
The storyline tied in everything from both books really well. I loved how it all came together. Selfishly I want more Bayview just for more Addy and Phoebe happiness because I love those two characters and didn’t think their respective storylines had enough of a “love” ending for me.
Expected publication date July 25, 2023.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Children’s, Delacorte Press, and the author for this ARC.
A satisfactory read for the continuing fans of the Bayview Four (or rather the Bayview Crew as their numbers swell). A new game is afoot and the prime suspect has to be Jake, one of the original co-conspirators with Simon. However, it's Bayview and not just one person has secrets, so while Jake may be the most obvious suspect, he's not the only one, in fact at least one member of the Bayview Crew has something to hide as well.
A quick and satisfactory read for fans of this series. I always enjoy reading McManus, I don't know that this novel really offers anything new, but it was fun to revisit some of the old characters.
At first I was hesitant at this series needing a third book. I thought the first was perfect and the second was unnecessary. But as soon as I jumped into the pages of One of Us Is Back I KNEW that it would be worth it. This time around the game is much more sinister. I loved how the stakes were raised and how it brought all of the characters back together. I also thought expanding on Jake and Simon's relationship was a great addition to the overall story. It made me love our characters more and like Jake even less.
McManus continues to keep me on the edge of my seat until the last page.
Sooooooo, this is the third book about the Bayview Four or the Bayview Crew or the Murder Club or whatever name the kids are going by and it is another winner. I had to go back and reread the first two as it had been a while since I first read it, so I kind of binge read the three books--listened to one, read one as a book, and read the last one on a kindle and loved every minute of it in every form. I love the characters (Maeve has been my favorite through all three books) and I like how even though the characters are teen (except for parents and Ashton and Eli), but they take adult responsibilities, like my favorite "girl detective" Nancy Drew. I am so happy that Ms McManus had Chelsea and Gavin escape, so maybe there will be a fourth Bayview mystery??
Like the two before it this book was great. It keeps all the mystery on a timer vibes while giving us more of the found family. Addy and Nate's friendship was really enjoyable in particular. The whole Bayview Crew are growing as people. Our adults are adults and acting like it. They've grown up and have rebuilt their lives after tragedy. The mystery itself was wonderful and I loved the community tie in. It balanced showing us our somewhat new characters with our old ones. And if you liked the TV shows there a few bits in common that will make your day.
I had to read this book! I have all of her books in my classroom and my students love them. This one will be no different. I had to give myself a quick refresher bc it has been so long since I read the first two, but once I caught up I loved this one. I missed all of these characters! I know I’ll be buying a couple copies of this for my classroom once it is released. Do yourself a favor and read this book!
Thanks to Netgalley and random House Children's for an early copy for review!
McManus sure knows how to write a thriller, and this 3rd installment in the Bayview series doers not disappoint.
I really appreciated how she wove parts of the previous books in to remind you what had happened!
You get to revisit the original Bayview Four, as well as the Murder Club from book 2. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat, and I had NOT guessed the ending.
Recommend this whole series.
I’m still picking my mouth off the floor, because I was not expecting to receive this approved eARC!
Thank you to the amazing publisher for this thrilling opportunity.
McManus is back y’all and she’s better than ever!
One of Us Is Back by Karen M. McManus was fasted paced, fun, and very addictive. Once I picked this book up I could not put it down.
This fast-paced, suspenseful story was a fantastic read!
I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book and literally couldn’t put it down.
It had a good flow, which made it a quick read and the level of suspense was perfect.
Karen M. McManus has a talent for creating drama and angst, and that makes for a twisty and fascinating book. It was suspenseful, had plot twists, and kept me wanting to read to figure out how everything would unfold.
It’s twisty, the characters are well crafted, perfectly paced, and the mystery is so well thought out!
I was completely drawn in by the mystery and was pulled into this dark hole I didn’t want to end.
The atmosphere was tense, amazing and unpredictable. Simply put I loved it.
I enjoyed being back in the company of the Bayview Four. It was seriously a lot of fun.
OoUIB was absolutely brilliant and perfect.
McManus seriously stressed me the frick out, but this book was so good.
There’s really not much to complain about with this book!
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
Thank You NetGalley and Delacorte Press for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Fans will enjoy the latest installment of this popular murder mystery and revisiting with familiar friends. However, it seems that one of them just may be hiding murder.
Thank you so much to Penguin Random House and NetGalley for an arc of this highly anticipated release!
I enjoyed the first 2 books in the series and have been waiting for this one ever since the announcement and I was not disappointed.
This book is a mix of the last two and we get to follow both the original Bayview 5 as well as the murder club from the second book. I personally loved all the characters from both book 1 and 2, so mixing them all up was amazing. There’s s also a new POV that I absolutely loved reading, and that is the POV of Simon! He is not back from the dead, but we get to read his POV from 6 years prior and that was one of my fav POVS in this book.
Of course there’s a lot of stuff happening and after the truth or dare game in the previous book everyone hoped it was over. When one of them disappears it is clear that the game is not over at all.
If you like Karen M.McManus other books and if you’ve read the first 2 books in the series I really recommend you read this! It’s hard for me to choose a favorite in the series, but this one is definitely in the lead.
Part 3 in the Bayview series. To their credit, the group of teens at the center of this series does start to express some real dissatisfaction with living in such an evil-plagued place! Kind of reminded me of Sunnydale from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. It took Buffy and pals seven seasons to finally just leave! Just kidding, I loved Buffy and I love McManus’ Bayview series as well.
All of the Bayview Crew (up to nine now) are home for the summer when things start to go haywire again. A mysterious billboard with a foreboding message that briefly winks into being and then out again. A (very) bad guy let out of jail on a technicality with his angry attention focussed on our heores. And some very convincing signs that someone is out for what Bayview seems to be known for — revenge.
If you haven’t read the first two books, don’t worry. McManus does a good job of weaving some recaps into natural conversation and inner thoughts. She uses her standard format of alternating between multiple viewpoints — secrets upon secrets upon secrets all mixed in with some YA coming-of-age, learning about intimacy, and seeking purpose. These books never disappoint!
Always clever, Karen McManus returns with her third installment in this unputdownable series. I can't recommend this book highly enough. You would think Ms. McManus would have run out of ideas or tricks up her sleeve to make these highly addictive books interesting...but let me assure you, she hasn't. I couldn't put this one down until I had read the very last page. Anyone of any age would enjoy these, so I repeatedly recommend them to all wholeheartedly!
This was my first book of the series but that did not stop me from loving it! I got the gist of the other two books through context clues and was sucked into the mayhem! I did not guess who was the culprit either which I love! Definitely worth your time!
Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC copy of this book to read and review. All of these thoughts and comments are my own.
I’ve really enjoyed this series. This third installment was good. Was it as good as the first two? No, not in my opinion but it was still good.
We get to go back into the lives of The Murder Club except this time someone from their past is back. More secrets are let out and more lives are in danger.
I really love the way McManus writes. I love a good mystery book where I am constantly trying to guess who did what. I can honestly say I didn’t guess who the suspect was until closer to the end. I will say some parts of this book were boring and it wasn’t as fun as the first two books but it was all in all a good read.
If you like mystery novels then I 100% recommend reading this one. Just make sure to read the first two in the series first, so you know who is who and what all have previously happened.
4 stars!
I received an advance copy of this through NetGalley. If you’ve read the other books in the series, this is an excellent end to the trilogy and a solid finale to all the chaos. If you haven’t read the other books in this series… what are you waiting for?
Bayview just can’t seem to catch a break, and neither can this group of friends who affectionately called themselves the murder club. Even after everything that’s gone down and Jake being put in jail, things still haven’t quieted down and with new evidence and a possibility of Jake being let go, the whole club is turned upside down. This was another fun addition to the series, however, I am gonna say I had a very hard time keeping track of all the characters and their relationships this time around. I have read all of the books and did a little refresher before reading this installment, and I still struggled with keeping them all straight.
