his book was just okay for me. I’ve never read Sylvia Day and by looking at others’ comments, I probably didn’t choose a good one to start with. Maybe I will check out her Crossfire series as it seems to have a lot of praise.

I really, really, really, REALLY, tried to get into this books. I tried more than once and for whatever reason, it just didn’t grasp me. I feel like it had such a good premise to be a great book, I just found myself bored. It wasn’t very engaging in my opinion. I had high hopes because I’ve heard good things about the author, this one just wasn’t for me. Because the book wasn’t for me and I didn’t fully finish it, I won’t be reviewing anywhere but here. I still am great full for the opportunity to have had the chance to read this.

I really liked the thriller part of this novel but the romantic part just wasn’t working for me. The author’s writing style is just a little too flowery for me to love. I also wish it was told from the perspectives of Kane and Lily rather than adding in the other two women, I found it took away from the couple and their dynamic.
Overall, it was a fun escape and an ok read, my first by this author.

Wouldn't be surprised if this book struggles to find an audience to stick around for book 2, and the error lies in the marketing.
It's labelled as "domestic suspense", but it shouldn't be. I read domestic suspense: Samantha Hayes, Nicci French... You know, properly suspenseful reads.
Whereas SO CLOSE doesn't even show any inkling of suspense until...Chapter 36. Of a 48-chapter novel. I knew ahead of time that this is part one of a duology, but come on - Chapter 36 is far too little too late to suddenly remember what this is supposed to be.
The end of the novel is totally rushed as Lily finally has some honest POV chapters, thus making it clear that her earlier chapters probably shouldn't have been included.
So WTF is this book? Family drama. There, that wasn't so hard to accurately label. But it's marketed for the audience it WANTS - not the audience it's actually suited for.
As for characterisation...boring. Lily and Kane are hot and boring. Aliyah is powerful and boring. Amy is the only one with somewhat of a unique voice and has more interesting things to think, say, and do. Unfortunately, we're probably not supposed to cheer for her above everyone else, but eff that - she's a hot mess and I'm Team Amy.

I've tried to read this book on four different occasions and I just can't get into it at all. I don't know what it is but it feels very similar to what I know about Fifty Shades of Gray and some other office esc books I've read. I think in the end that I'm just going to count this as a DNF and move on. I already have so many books I want to read and I can't waist my time.

I had an extremely hard time getting into this novel. It seemed drawn out compared to some of this author's other works. I also felt that maybe there was too many POVs to focus on the main storyline. In some spots there was far too much information being withheld that it drew me out of the story. Not sure if I'll continue with book two.

It's been a while since The Crossfire Saga so I enjoyed reading Sylvia Day's new book So Close. I can't wait for the next book!

A sex thriller that will leave you open mouthed and screaming! The perfect mix of mystery, love and too die for dark.

Kane Black's life revolves around the memory of his deceased wife, Lily, who mysteriously reappears after a sailing accident. With Lily's return, Kane hopes to find purpose again. However, three women complicate his journey: Aliyah, his manipulative mother; Amy, who becomes obsessed with him; and Lily herself, with her amnesia and hidden motives. This psychological thriller provides multiple perspectives, including Lily's unique way of communicating with Kane. While connected to the Crossfire saga, this book stands on its own. Prepare for twists, intricate relationships, and the impending conclusion in the next installment, TOO FAR.

This book takes you on a wondrous adventure which keeps you guessing until the very end. Very engaging and engrossing… highly recommended.

I will be honest and say I struggled some with this story. I adore the Crossfire series so I was looking forward to this one. I felt it lacked a little magic but still had great bones.

So Close by Sylvia Day was a great first series book! I love this author and have been anxiously waiting a new novel and series from her! This was a brilliant read, full of twists and turns that kept me turning the pages throughout. This was not a typical romance story, but I sure went through every emotion along the way and there was definitely a lot of spice added to the story. I loved how the book was told from different perspectives, which allowed us to see each character individually and to see their side of the story. Aliyah was just a horrible woman and I really felt sorry for Amy. Witte was such a solid character and we could all do with him in our lives.
The twist at the end of the book I definitely did not see coming, but the ending left me with more questions than answers and I can't wait to read what happens next.

I loved this book! Sexy, spicy and so worth reading. I love this author and I couldn't have asked for a better story. The characters are wonderful. The mmc is hot as heck. I loved him. I loved the fmc too. Strong and feisty. This was just a really good read.

Really enjoyed this. I loved the crossfire series and was nice to hear Gideon and Eva mentioned in this series too. I did not like aliyah and was unsure what to make of lily. Can not wait for.book 2 to.come.out.

I am a huge fan of Sylvia Day's books and couldn't wait for this new series. I feel like it had a lot of potential but it just didn't grab me like most of her books. Hopefully, after reading the upcoming sequel it will answer all of the questions that this one just left you wondering about.

I was sad to see this book had some negative reviews on Goodreads and almost all of them were just people complaining that they had to wait too long for the book. I understand that people don't like to wait, but I also think it's so silly to give the book a bad review because you're bitter you had to wait a few years for it. Cmon people.
Ok, that being said, I think the book was absolutely worth the wait and should be read, enjoyed and rated on its contents alone. I liked the darkness of it, I liked the pacing, and I truly don't think I've read anything like it. The female characters were so great and really added to the depth and enjoyability of the story. All in all, I say ignore the bitter haters and read this book!

I started So Close but just couldn’t get into it. Stepped away and tried again another day but, again, just couldn’t connect to the writing style or story. This one is a miss for me but can’t really weigh in with an actual review.

Loved the nod to the crossfire series. It was a steamy mystery which was fun because I hadn’t even realized there was a mystery aspect. The POVs confused me a little, but I quickly caught on.

"So Close" by Sylvia Day is a departure from her previous Crossfire series. Although I enjoyed this book, I found parts of it very perplexing and my confusion did decrease my enjoyment of the novel overall. I plan to sit with the book for a few weeks and then re-read it as I expect I will be more engaged the second time around.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This review is a really hard one to write, as it's not only negative but also to be honest I DON'T know what I read about - I can't think about the aim/set-up of this story for the future. This is my first story from Ms. Day and to be honest, I will try only due to amazing opinions from my bookish friends.
I love when my book crosses some kind of border that makes me explore new things and feelings, but then I need this story to be captivating, and intriguing - which this story is not in my eyes. This story should be one of my beloved ones - a dark billionaire romance with thriller/mystery elements. This story is told from four different POVs: Wittie (the butler), Aliyah (Kane's mother), Amy (Lily's sister), and Lily (Kane's dead wife, that was "found after six years). Each of those is different, to be honest, I had only managed to connect with one - the butler as the others were maybe too strange or disconnected for my liking. For example, Lily's POV is a second person POV that consists of sentences like "You...", which for me is not engaging at all, and does not allow to smoothly follow the history.
What also would be needed here is the development of a character as they had their traits, but were not real to me, just flat ones that do not make it possible to connect with them and cheer, but I still don't know who to follow when it comes to romance part (which was so little). Oh, and I have to mention that there was also a sudden twist that was not making sense to me as it was coming out of nowhere in my opinion. I wish I had something better to say about this book, but I have to be honest with myself.
