When Chandler's one-night stand ends up the next celebrity (she never watched his shows) she's ghostwriting his memoir for, things get interesting and fun in Rachel Lynn Solomon's latest book.
What worked for me:
*I love Rachel's writing hence why I happily run to read everything she puts out.
*Jewish rep was fantastic
*It's an engaging , don't want to put the book down read, until the end (see comment below).
*The foreplay, sex, and teaching technique are done beautifully and I love how sex positive Rachel's FMC are.
*I enjoyed all the traveling to different cities and hotels.
*I appreciate the care taken with the character's anxiety and OCD.
What didn't work for me:
Overall, this is a fantastic read until the last quarter/third act conflict then the book slowed down way too much and got bogged down. Here's the thing. Chandler and Finn communicate seamlessly with each other, so at the end when Chandler does the exact opposite, it doesn't ring true for her character. I'm all for reading about characters struggling to find the right careers or purpose for the life, but in this book, that struggle wasn't built up enough to make it believable when it comes to a crux.
I really love how Rachel Lynn Solomon writes dialogue. By no means is this the spiciest book on my docket, but it was so fun!
✨This is Stiles Stilinski fan fiction and I won’t accept otherwise 😤🫶✨
The premise of the book is that the nerdy sidekick of an old werewolf show is Very Bad at sex and needs lessons from his former one-night stand and present ghost writer of his memoir, who is traveling around conventions with him. And if that’s not the greatest sentence I’ve ever written then I’ve lost all control of the English language.
If you’ve read that sentence above, congratulations! You now know more about the book than I did when I started it, and let me tell you…WHAT A RIDE. I had absolutely no clue that I was about to be privy to the most AWKWARD, most LUBRICATED, most HOT N’ READY case of second hand embarrassment a la atrocious one-night stand I’ve ever read.
The fact that Rachel Lynn Solomon convinced me that Finn was not only a hero redeemed, but a hero GIFTED SEXUALLY was quite honestly Hercules’s thirteenth labor. I simply did not expect to be absolutely obsessed with the same man that didn’t know where to locate the clitoris 😭
From the memoir writing and fan conventions to the traveling misadventures and sex lessons, Business or Pleasure was such a delicious trope sundae. The cherries on top were the allusions to Teen Wolf, Dylan O’Brien, and/or Stiles Stilinski. Chandler and Finn were incredibly good. Just really nice, lovely, kind people that I’m more than a little bit in love with. Someone please buy me socks and remember small details about me! That’s the sexiest love language out there!!
All in all, Business or Pleasure was an absolute delight from start to finish. The premise promised a lot, the beginning sure did a lot, but I pinky swear that the romance did the most in the best way possible. It’s a rom-com in its purest, sexiest form.

*Honest conversations, toys, and personal fantasies made for such a hot and hilarious read. Finn was so fantastic for possessing zero toxic masculinity. He genuinely wanted sex to be enjoyable for his partners, and was so willing to learn. The pacing of the lessons was also perfect, as it was a slow crescendo (after the initial kachow).
CWs: Depictions of OCD and anxiety/ panic attacks, abortion (happened in the past), abusive/toxic parent (in the past)
Thanks so much to the publisher for an eARC via NetGalley. All opinions are honest and my own.
This was such a fun book. I loved the premise and it was something different from most of the romance books that I have read.
Both of the main characters were very interesting and I found them likeable both apart and together and I liked how they grew as a couple throughout the book. I can always do without the 3rd act miscommunication, but I really enjoyed how this book concluded.
I enjoyed this book quite a lot. It's probably my favorite from RLS, even though I'm not typically a fan of romance novels with bad sex as a plotline. Finn was such a great, nerdy character, though and Chandler was likable enough so it was easy to root for them. I enjoyed the con atmosphere and all the traveling. A solid 4 star book. Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for the DRC in exchange for an honest review.
Love, love, loved these characters! What a hilarious set-up - having the worst one-night stand ever just to find out you have to work with the person for the next few months!
I ADORED Business or Pleasure and did not want it to end. Rachel Lynn Solomon writes a great summer read that is sure to delight readers.
Chandler Cohen is a ghostwriter who writes for popular influencers.. On a night where she attends an author signing, and feels meh after, she meets Finn, a man who'll change her world. Sexual tension sparks that night and leads to the most awkward one night stand of her life. She doesn't expect to see Finn ever again... until he turns into her next "ghostwriter" client.
Finn Walsh, used to be hotshot actor starring in a werewolf cut classic, now travels the continent attending fan conventions. Taking pictures, signing autographs and speaking at panels is his main role in life. He NEEDS Chandler to put his story on paper, claiming he has something up his sleeve that readers will delight in. When Chandler admits to him that their one night stand was not the best, Finn reaches out to other ex lovers and decides: Chandler needs to teach him the art of pleasure. But will this get in the way of writing his story?
I found myself laughing, cheering and getting emotional while reading Lynn Solomon's latest, Business or Pleasure. Fans will delight over mentions of past characters and the heart to heart talks over owning one's sexuality. I couldn't help but fall in love with Finn instantly and roll my eyes at some of Chandler's antics. Overall, this was a huge hit for me and I cannot wait to read whatever Rachel has up her sleeve next.

This is hands down my favourite adult romcom by Rachel Lynn Solomon! It takes tropes and storylines that would have been easily cliche in another writer's hands and crafts a compelling, nuanced, fun, feels-filled narrative with characters that feel wonderfully human and who actually communicate through it all. The final third does feel a little rushed in comparison to the rest of it, but that doesn't take too much away from the enjoyment. As always, RLS manages to treat sensitive subject matter with thoughtful care, tenderness, and nuance.
Highly recommend!
In Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon, ghostwriter Chandler Cohen attends a book signing for a novel she wrote, only to find that the author doesn't recognize her. After an awkward hookup with a charming man she meets at the bar, she discovers that he is Finn Walsh, a C-list actor she is assigned to ghostwrite a memoir for. As they navigate their professional relationship, they also explore their growing personal connection, trying to determine if they can balance business and pleasure. Weather Girl was an absolute favorite of mine and I couldn’t wait to dive into Business or Pleasure which was one of my highly anticipated summer reads! The story captivated me as it unfolded solely from Chandler's perspective, with intriguing articles and tidbits sprinkled between chapters. Chandler, her loving family, Finn, and the people in his life were all wonderfully crafted characters that I adored. This was a quick read for me and I was throughly engaged with the storyline from start to finish. Rachel Lynn Solomon skillfully addresses heavy subjects such as abortion, mental illness, bullying, and emotional abuse with sensitivity. A standout aspect of the book was the emphasis on the importance of communicating your needs. The budding relationship between Chandler and Finn was both sweet and touching with just the right amount of steamy scenes that perfectly suited their dynamic. I highly recommend picking this one up if you’re romance reader or a fan of Rachel’s work!

Seduction lessons is one of my favorite tropes, and I loved how this book flipped it upside down.
So many unusual perspectives and I loved the exploration of Judaism and the fact both MCs were Jewish and it was just one of the ways they connected.
Full review to come release week.
First, thank you so much NetGalley for the arc, I am simply in love with this book and Rachel.
No one, and I mean NO ONE, writes a romance like Rachel Lynn Soloman. I was absolutely giddy over the MC’s relationship, not just physically but emotionally they were so open and communicative. I can’t get over just how much I love the way RLS writes sex. The confidence, the lack of shame, the empowerment of taking control and sharing what she wants, Chandler is everything I aspire to be. Even in the moments that were inherently cringy and embarrassing, the writing was so good and realistic that I couldn’t help loving it.
A few little details I loved:
1. The depictions and rep of OCD and anxiety
2. The little “Ex Talk” Easter egg!!!!!!!
3. The mention of ted lasso, cause its ted lasso!
4. How natural all of the modern pop culture references felt, nothing forced or weird
"A ghostwriter and a struggling actor help each other on the page and in the bedroom in this steamy romantic comedy from the New York Times bestselling author of The Ex Talk.
Chandler Cohen has never felt more like the ghost in "ghostwriter" until she attends a signing for a book she wrote - and the author doesn't even recognize her. The evening turns more promising when she meets a charming man at the bar and immediately connects with him. But when all their sexual tension culminates in a spectacularly awkward hookup, she decides this is one night better off forgotten.
Unfortunately, that's easier said than done. Her next project is ghostwriting a memoir for Finn Walsh, a C-list actor best known for playing a lovable nerd on a cult classic werewolf show who now makes a living appearing at fan conventions across the country. Chandler knows him better from their one-night stand of hilarious mishaps.
Chandler's determined to keep their partnership as professional as possible, but when she admits to Finn their night together wasn't as mind-blowing as he thought it was, he's distraught. He intrigues her enough that they strike a deal: when they're not working on his book, Chandler will school Finn in the art of satisfaction. As they grow closer both in and out of the bedroom, they must figure out which is more important, business or pleasure - or if there's a way for them to have both."
I am really drawn to this because of the whole culture of C-list actors at conventions who have so much bravado and the fact that one would be bad in the sack is hilarious. At least he's willing to learn...
I simply adored Business or Pleasure from beginning to end. It’s equal parts cozy and spicy (but for real, this delivers the spice in the absolute best way). This is everything I want in a romance, with deeply likable characters, a fun plot, conflict that makes sense, and a satisfying ending that rounds things out in the best way.
I am weak for every romance Rachel Lynn Solomon writes and this book is yet another that solidifies that for me.
Characteristics: Open door with lots of spice, somewhat the fake dating trope, Jewish representation, lots of sex positive conversation as always with her books.
TW: OCD and anxiety attack scenes, discussion of an abortion (in such a well done way)
This book was just "alright" for me. I appreciate what the book does for intimacy and articulating your needs to your partner; that part is done very well. I never felt particularly invested in either character though. I found both of the characters to be irrationally insecure. Everyone has insecurities, but realistically both are pretty successful. I also didn't like how casually (at least until she has a discussion with Finn later) Chandler kept just mentioning her abortion. Abortion is a triggering topic for a lot of people and I think it could've been handled sooner and better. I also didn't feel like her having one did anything to advance the plot so I wasn't sure why it was necessary. Speaking of triggering, Chandler's panic attack was completely out of the blue and there was no discussion before or after if she suffered from mental health issues. I also didn't find it to be a great representation of what a panic attack is like, but I applaud how Finn handled her distress. Overall, I think it's worth a read, but I wouldn't put it as one of the top romance novels I've read.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing this ARC.
I just reviewed Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon. #BusinessorPleasure #NetGalley
It’s quirky, it’s cozy, it’s awkward, it’s intimate, it’s endearing! It called me out on my current quarter-life crisis anxiety! We love to see it!
Yet another incredibly honest and heartwarming book from Rachel Lynn Solomon! I will always have high expectations when it comes to her writing, and she always knocks my socks off (ba dum tss)
I love that Chandler and Finn have impeccable communication and chemistry outside of their initial awkward encounter that continued to blossom throughout the book. I appreciated that Chandler’s anxiety and Finn’s OCD were woven into the story and not just treated as checkboxes for representation - you could tell they were both written with care.
Which brings me to Chandler. Chandler, Chandler, Chandler, in all her anxious and overthinking glory, will stick with me for a while. She was real and raw, and I love when characters take the time to figure out what they want in life outside of the story. Feeling like you have to figure out your life all at once is scary and overwhelming and it's okay if your plans change a hundred times over.
I will also never tire of reading Solomon write Jewish characters; I always forget how nice it is to read random little references to Jewish culture <3
I want to share my heartfelt thoughts about a book that deeply touched me. From the first page, I was immersed in a world filled with laughter, love, and personal growth. The author's ability to craft stories that bring immense joy to my heart is truly remarkable.
The protagonist quickly became a cherished companion on her journey as a ghostwriter and her unexpected connection with another character. Their interactions were a delightful blend of hilarity and heartfelt moments, leaving me eager to uncover what would happen next.
What resonated with me profoundly was the exploration of finding harmony between professional endeavors and personal happiness. It sparked introspection about my own choices and priorities. Is it possible to strike a balance and embrace the best of both worlds?
One enchanting aspect of this book was its ability to infuse humor into every situation. The amusing mishaps and awkward encounters between the characters had me grinning from ear to ear.
This book touched my soul in ways I can't fully express. It served as a gentle reminder to savor life's pleasures while pursuing our dreams. I wholeheartedly recommend this captivating and uplifting read to anyone in search of a book that will warm their heart and leave them with a renewed sense of joy.
This book was fantastic! It made me laugh a ton and I didn’t want to put it down. I’m not sure that I’ve read a book like this before, which I appreciated. I also liked the addition of different forms of media throughout the book. It added something new and different. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this book early.
I loooove a steamy celebrity romance, and this one delivered. From their initial chemistry turned one night stand mishap, I was both laughing and cringing from the ensuing awkwardnness.
Chandler and Finn were such an adorable couple that compliment each other really well and felt real, despite Finn being a celebrity. Chandler's imposter syndrome, sex positivity, and anxiety made her a dynamic character I wanted to see succeed. Finn's love of all things nerdy, while simultaneously being a good communicator and ultimate golden retriever boyfriend left me swooning. Plus their chemistry in their bedroom lessons was off the charts. How do we send Chandler's lessons to all men?! lolol
I also loved the unique format and little glimpses in between each chapter of the shows Finn had starred in. I did think the ending was too quick and wished it was a little more drawn out. Overall, this was a unique read with flawed and vulnerable characters that take a chance on themselves and each other despite their fears.
This was much better than the last Rachel Lynn Solomon book I read. I think Weather Girl through me off a little bit with some of its repetitive descriptions of characters so I was very hesitant to read this one.
I loved Chandler's occupation of being a ghost writer, I found it very interesting to see her side of that story and she did an did not relate to the "authors" of these books. When she has a one-night stand after a signing where the author doesn't even recognize her, it turns out to be more than she bargained for. It was the worst night of sex in her life, but then he ends up being the next mystery author she is to write for. I love how writing his book also leads to getting to know Finn in such a detailed and intimate way without having full intimate moments. Though when she jokes about teaching him the art of pleasing a woman, this slow build up brings all the tension. From learning how to kiss to slowing building up to the big moment we learn a lot about these characters.
This was a very enjoyable book. the pace was set just right to keep you wanting to know what happened next, and Finn and Chandler were such a unique and interesting couple!
What a delight! I was concerned that the dubious ethical choices of The Ex Talk weren't replicated in this follow up, making for a much less stressful read. I loved the pacing of both the sexual and romantic relationships, especially the hilariously bad first encounter. It was all real and yet had a touch of escapism I enjoyed. I loved both of the main characters. As a nerd, I thought Finn's storyline and con experiences were really authentic, and balanced well against the romance storyline. Overall, a great read and would highly recommend.
