Rachel Lynn Solomon's books are a little hit or miss for me. I've really enjoyed some of them, but there have been others that didn't work for me as well. Luckily her third adult romance finally hit the mark for me, and I really enjoyed this!
This book has a pretty unique format, because it starts with an amazing meet cute and then... bad sex. Usually in romance novels the sex is automatically mind-blowing, so this felt really refreshing and realistic, and I liked the way it was approached with healthy communication.
It's also a really funny read, and I really liked both characters, who are DEEPLY nerdy. They're both Jewish, and they both deal with mental illness (anxiety and OCD respectively), so it was great to see them connect over these shared experiences.
Ohhhh goodness gracious. I love this book with my whole heart
Chandler and Finn are just sweet lite baby angels that we must protect at all costs.
I loved their journey. I loved the plot. I loved the banter. I love anything RLS writes. Braaaavo.
After reading The Ex Talk years ago, Rachel Lynn Solomon became an auto-read author for me. Unfortunately, Business or Pleasure is my least favorite of her works. I feel that I am in the minority for this, so take my review with a grain of salt.
Chandler Cohen is a ghostwriter, struggling to feel content with her career. After an upsetting book signing for a popular book that she wrote, she ends up meeting a charming man at the bar, which leads to a mega-awkward one night stand. But Cohen doesn't care because she'll never see him again—right?
Chandler is offered a job to ghostwrite a memoir for C-list actor Finn Walsh, who, you guessed it, is the guy that she had the terrible one night stand with. Determined to further her career and keep their relationship professional, Chandler accepts the deal. But when she admits to Finn that their hookup was less than ideal, they end up striking a deal—Chandler will give him some major tips in the bedroom. Will their relationship remain all business or pleasure?
I will admit, I did not read the description of this book before reading it so I was a little put off by the premise of it. Chandler teaching Finn a variety of bedroom tips and tricks felt so awkward to me and it is just not what I personally want from my romance books. But in addition to that, I felt zero chemistry between these two which made the romance aspect unbelievable as well. I felt no connection to these characters, and they felt very surface-level. I did appreciate the mental health rep, but that was about it. I do think a lot of readers will enjoy this, but unfortunately it was not my cup of tea.
Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
When Chandler finds herself in somewhat of an early mid-life crisis, meeting an attractive man makes things a little brighter. But when their encounter turns sour for her, she decides to cut her losses and move on. Which would have worked out great, except Finn, the man from her belly-flop of a night, is now her newest client and she will be working closely with him on his memoir. And then things get even closer when Finn asks her to educate him on just what went wrong on their first night.
This was full of fun banter and growing chemistry, and it was also great to see the characters develop themselves as they faced personal issues. Finn is a great character, though maybe a little too understanding. Lots of fun! I would recommend this for fans of Ali Hazelwood.
I received a DRC from the publisher via Netgalley.
Rachel Lynn Solomon is on my short list of 'must buy' authors. This is a sweet, fun read that -- in so being -- still manages to pack an emotional punch. I loved it, just as expected.

What to expect:
🌶️ awkward one night stand
🌶️ creepy haunted dolls
🌶️ Jewish + OCD rep
🌶️ PERFECT COMMUNICATION BETWEEN PARTNERS
🌶️ a thorough sexucation (lessons of the bedroom)
🌶️ laugh out loud hilarious moments
🌶️ spice galore 🥵
This book was EVERYTHING! Finn is the reason I breathe and Chandler is a girl after my own heart. These two characters are truly a masterclass on communication and the importance of it in and out of the bedroom. There is one chapter in particular (IYKYK) that had me laughing, crying, and fanning myself. It was one of the best written chapters that showed empathy and compassion and how to listen. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say which one, but I loved it so much I read it twice. So, so healthy. I love them. Forever and ever.
RLS can do no wrong in my book. She always writes with her heart, giving readers enchanting and unique characters that don’t fit into the cookie cutter romance novel. They have flaws and normal bodies and fears and they always feel real to me.
This book comes out (not soon enough) July 4. There will be preorder incentives, so chop chop!
Thank you to @berkleyromance and @netgalley for the ARC!

Business or Pleasure is one of the best Romance novels that I’ve read this year. Local Seattleite ghostwriter Chandler Cohen meets “Drew,” who is in town for a “convention,” at a bookstore bar where the sparks start flying and lead to an adventure that ends in “Drew’s” hotel room. Unfortunately, despite their amazing instant chemistry, “Drew” turns out to be hilariously bad in bed, and Chandler sneaks out with the intention of putting the fiasco behind her. But fate has more in store for the pair. “Drew” turns out to be Finn Walsh, an actor best known for his role in a popular near-decade-old tv show. He travels the con-circuit and is intent on releasing a memoir by the ten year anniversary event of the show, but he needs a ghostwriter to make that happen. Chandler and Finn agree to work together, and it isn’t long before they address the elephant in the room, and come to a salacious proposal: As they travel to cons across the country and work on the memoir together, Chandler will also teach Finn how to be a better lover. The story that unfolds from there is nothing short of spectacular. The characters are fun, unique, and real. There are organic inclusions of topics such as positive sexuality, reproductive health, mental health, and religion. There are no major dramatic moments where all hope seems lost, and readers will feel invested as the story progresses. It is impossible not to root for Chandler and Finn’s happily ever after. The (purposeful) cringe sex scene is hilarious, and the steamy sex scenes are of impeccable quality. The only thing I would want would be more steamy scenes of the pair exploring other fun aspects of their sexuality and fantasies - between the two of them, I bet there would be a lot of fun ideas (that may or may not include Lord of the Rings?) Fans of fun, quirky couples growing into a satisfying HEA will not be able to put this book down.
rachel lynn never fails to amaze me. this is another great hit from her and i'm already craving another one. this book is a fun and cute read with the right amount of spice and characters full of personality that will steal your heart. finn and chandler are my new babies, and i miss them.
Another winner from Rachel Lynn Solomon! Her romances are always super swoony and can't-put-downable, and this one is no different. Like her other books, this one also has thoughtful, authentic Jewish rep and also touches upon mental health and neurodivergence.
This one is definitely super steamy and spicy! I loved the chemistry between the two main characters and I will definitely be recommending this one to romance readers at my library.
Chandler Cohen is a disillusioned ghostwriter who has a disastrous one-night stand with Finn, a C-list celebrity that used to be on a famous werewolf show. She sneaks out of his hotel room the next day only to soon find out that she's been hired to ghostwrite his memoir. While she follows him across the country on the convention circuit in order to write his book, she agrees to help tutor him on being better at intimacy, but is she maybe too good of a tutor and falling for him now herself? I really enjoyed this couple's chemistry and banter. And the sex-positive conversations were fantastic. More of this, please! I adored Finn and was really rooting for these two to figure out a way to make it work while also being being happy in their careers.
I'm in love with pretty much every character in this book, but no one more than Finn.
Chandler is a ghostwriter and when she first meets Finn, she has no idea who he is. The meeting, and subsequent one night stand, turns disasterous at the end of the night, but its no matter because she won't ever have to see him again. Until she does.
Finn is publishing a memoir and needs a ghostwriter, so imagine both of their shocks as she comes strolling into the meeting. Finn sees her as the one that snuck out on him and she sees him as the most awkward night of her life. The more they are together, the more they open up and she lets him know exactly what she thought of their night together. They strike a deal that she will help him in the intimacy department as she writes his book. That initial spark is always there, even after their disaster of a night. So when Finn starts really listening to all Chandler wants, things get a little muddy and it starts to feel real.
I had moments where I was crying laughing, especially at the beginning. I felt the AWKWARD that Chandler felt down to my bones. I have also had moments like this (not exactly but close) and I have been in a situation where I had to tell someone they were not exactly as skilled as they thought they were. The amount of love and longing I felt between both of these characters leapt off the page and Finn was one of the sweetest, most genuine heroes I have had the pleasure of reading. This is why I keep coming back to Rachel Lynn Solomon over and over again. This book will NOT disappoint. This will be a staple in my "re-read" rotation.
Thank you to Berkley, Rachel Lynn Solomon and Netgalley for an early copy.
Not everyone loves books about books, but I abso-fucking-lutely do. This is EASILY one of my top favorites of the year. It's sweet and spicy and intellectual all wrapped into one gorgeous story. A++
Rachel Lynn Solomon is turning into a "do not miss" author for me. From her YA to adult Rom Coms, I am hooked. Her characters are real and their situations are relatable. Well, relatable in my dreams, lol.
Chandler and Finn have immediate chemistry, even though Finn falls a little short in the romance department. Luckily for us, Chandler is willing to take up the gauntlet and teach the willing Finn how to be "good" in bed. Lest you think this entails simple lessons in the bedroom, what Chandler teaches Finn is so much more important: communication, partnership, and awareness. Truly, their chemistry is off the charts.
I appreciate that Solomon addresses some really important issues, but in an organic way. (They never feel "tacked on" if that makes sense.) Additionally, the fact that her characters are casually Jewish always pulls at my heartstrings, because it is just not something one sees in many books outside of historical fiction about WWII.
And for you fans of "open door" romance, this book is for you.
Thanks to NetGalley for the digital arc!
Once again Rachel Lynn Solomon has written a funny, heart-warming, and sexy romance. I was so delighted to get invited to read this book, and enjoyed it so much that I literally made myself only read about fifteen or twenty percent at a time so that I could stretch it out over the course of several weeks.
To begin with, I loved the premise of this book - the ghost writer who wants to write her own books, being teamed up to write the memoirs of a teen heart-throb - I am here for this. But as important is the fact that Chandler and Finn were such enjoyable characters to follow along with and some of my favorite tropes can be found in this story.
For people who have read Solomon's work - this book contains a lot of what makes her one of my favorite romance authors, the Pacific Northwest, characters with mental health challenges, sex positive conversations, and super sexy bedroom scenes.
I was delighted with the premise and the writing didn't disappoint - highly recommend for anyone looking for a sexy romcom!
chandler and finn have literally the most healthy, communicative fictional relationship i think i've ever seen. solomon captures their chemistry and connection so excellently; this is a bookish couple i think booktok and bookstagram are going to obsess over. there's forced proximity, jewish rep, and mental health rep, which a variety of readers can come to collectively appreciate. as someone who struggles with OCD and anxiety, i truly adored seeing two main characters having these two mental illnesses. this was my first rachel lynn solomon read and certainly not the last!!
what i also found to be a great choice on the author's part is making the MMC bad one/inexperienced in bed and the FMC being the "mentor". any author that breaks the mold and flips gender roles is an author i can wholeheartedly stan. great for rosie denaan and beth o'leary fans!!
Rachel Lynn Solomon has been an auto buy author for me – I’ve read both of her previous romance books and have been working my way through her YA releases as well. That being said, there was no doubt that I would be picking up a copy of this read to try.
The initial premise intrigued me girls meets boy, girl has one night stand with boy – it is awkward and cringey and girl plans to never try that again. Until boy turns out to be a C list celebrity looking for a ghostwriter for his upcoming book and inadvertently hires her to do the job.
As always Solomon delivers an intriguing story premise and relatable characters. I love that she seeks to include mental health representation in a relatable and authentic way in her reads as well. In this case, our male main character has OCD, while Chandler deals with GAD. I liked getting some view into how OCD impacts Finn and how he lives and experiences it as somehow who is aware of his diagnosis and has sought out treatment. I feel like OCD often in media portrayals only ‘looks’ one way, so it was nice to see a fresh perspective.
The aspect that was not working for me was the ‘lessons’ – not really a trope or device in stories I enjoy, and in this case it just felt very unnecessary and a bit cringey for me. With the whole ‘workplace’ romance, roadtrip romance, celebrity romance, etc – I felt there were more than enough angles to come at this from and the lessons just didn’t flow or fit into the story for me. As I said, it was cringey for me and made it harder to get through the read.
Overall, one I’m sure many will enjoy – Solomon’s books are well written, have some great characters, and touch on some wonderful topics – this particular one just was not a good fit for me. I do still look forward to trying more from her in the future. Thank you to Netgalley and Berkley for the opportunity to read an early copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The story had such a great plot. It really has the ability just to suck you into the story and, it’s definitely going to be one that you will want to re-read again and again.
The two main characters are just a delightful experience. They have such wonderful qualities and the author did a fabulous job with the build-up. Their personalities are eclectic; they balance each other beautifully. You feel and experience their vulnerabilities too.
I absolutely love the lessons in bed that lead them into a bit of trouble. It is humorous, sexy, steamy, and slightly embarrassing for them but a delight to follow along as they learn and explore each other.
Finn is a fabulous character. He has wonderful qualities that make him stand out in the book boyfriend crowd. The hot nerd is definitely alive and well.
Solomon has added so much to the story that keeps it interesting and unique. We have characters with OCD, anxiety, parental issues, and past abortions. All of these are handled with grace and compassion. She also brings us empowerment and a focus on healing in this touching story.
The one thing that really disappointed me though is the ending. After everything we went through in the book, the ending fell super short for me. I wanted more! An epilogue would have made this a 5-star read for me.
Overall, Business or Pleasure is fun, exciting, sexy, steamy, empowering, and fresh. Grab this one!
I don't know what to think about this one and it is breaking my heart! I've adored all of Rachel's books, both YA and adult and this one just felt flat to me. I'm not sure if I am a different reader than I was when I read Weather Girl last year or if the lessons in this book are a trope I do not enjoy.
I will start with what I enjoyed, obviously RLS' mental health representation is excellent. Finn has OCD and I appreciated the casual way it was incorporated into the story while still showing how an adult with OCD lives. I also really liked the beginning of the story. I was hooked right away.
If you like low angst/conflict in books you might like this one bc there was no tension!! (there still is a 3rd act break up) And then the tension that was here wasn't fleshed out enough. They can't be together because they are working together and yet that is resolved instantly. But, also there is conflict with one of his former castmates and I don't think that got resolved? Not that it needed to, but I would've liked at least the characters to have a bit of closure.
I just found Finn to be a bland love interest and without sharing too much found him really un sexy despite his eagerness. Yeah it's hot he wanted to learn and is enough of a man to admit his lack of finesse but it just didn't work for me. I normally love nerds and seeing passion for fandoms in books and yet his LOTR thing was just too much. Maybe having his POV would've helped? Idk I just haven't found a man this unattractive in a hot second despite him being pretty great on paper.
And Chandler was fine? Not a ton to say about her. I appreciated her being stuck with her life being scared to dream and tbh it probably hit a bit close to home bc it just idk didn't move me??
I feel bad being this critical bc RLS is a fave and I loved the first bit of this book, but by the end I just did not care. I still will probably be buying this book because I want to see Rachel on tour but oooof.
I do not consider myself a fan of angst, but I really need more tension between the main characters in a contemporary. Usually that is formed in the slow burn, but here it's not a physical slowburn and the emotional slowburn isn't really discussed much,
Rachel 👏🏼 Lynn 👏🏼 Solomon 👏🏼
She is and remains an auto-buy author. This expansion of the RLS universe was incredibly fun and warmed my little nerd heart. Even more than that, this is one of the rare romance novels that does not rely on the miscommunication trope! If you want a book with a combination of compelling characters, poignant moments, and yes steamy scenes too, be sure to check this out (then go read RLS's other books).
I was so excited when I saw I was approved to read this book. I started reading it right away. I thought the book was cute, but I didn’t love it as much as I hoped I would. I felt like the book was kind of slow and the storyline was easily forgettable. A few days after reading it, I barely remember anything about it. I also felt like there wasn’t much chemistry between Chandler and Finn. I just don’t think this book was for me. I know others read and loved it!
Thank you Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
