Rachel Lynn Solomon gets better with every book, and if you like celebrity romance, this is a perfect bookish take on that. I had a lot of fun reading this one, and appreciated the representation of mental health and the way the characters' Jewish faith is an integrated part of the story. The open door steam is a main part of the story, so readers who prefer closed door romance may want to look elsewhere.
I wasn't sure if I'd like a book where the man wasn't immediately good in bed, not going to lie. Most romances are written in a way so that the partner is always able to cater to what the other needs. And reading a cringy sex scene between the two at the beginning of the book had me worried.
But Rachel Lynn Solomon wrote a truly vulnerable book here and I think she's changed my mind about this. I loved the honestly and vulnerability so much because it was so realistic!
A very sweet and spicy romance about the star of a Buffy like show and the woman ghostwriting his memoir and showing him the ropes in bed…
Thank you, Netgalley, Berkley, and the author for the gifted e-book! ❤️ #gifted. My review is comprised of my honest thoughts.
Read this book if you like: One night stand, hilarious reads, forced proximity, sex lessons, neurodivergent representation, steamy
This is such a cute, funny, emotional, sex positive read. I love how awkward the first scene was. The sex lesson trope is very interesting to me. I highly recommend it!
Rachel Lynn Solomon remains an auto-buy author for me! This is her spiciest book yet and has such a tender romance.
The set up and pacing are so different from most romance novels, and it gave the story a refreshing take.

Chandler Cohen has accepted her fate as a ghostwriter--no one will ever know it was her who wrote the words they're reading. But when the "author" of the book she wrote doesn't even recognize her at a book signing, Chandler realizes she's hit rock bottom, leading her to the bar, where she flirts with a charming, handsome, seemingly perfect man. Until they have sex and he's absolutely awful in bed. Deciding to ghost and forget the man, Chandler leaves without a note, going back to her apartment to prepare for an interview with a C-list actor and his agent who wish for her to ghostwrite his memoir. But of course, when Chandler shows up to the lunch, who is waiting for her but Finn, a former teenage-heartthrob actor from a once famous werewolf show AND the man of her awful sex dreams. Despite being the ultimate awkward situation, Finn is determined for Chandler to write his memoir, and invites her to join him on his fan convention circuit over the next couple months, observing him and working together to write his memoir before the highly-anticipated reunion between Finn and his former co-stars. Against her best judgment, Chandler agrees, and the awkwardness begins, a situation made worse when she discovers that Finn not only has no idea how bad he is in bed, but that he had an amazing night with her.
That's when Finn and Chandler strike a deal: while not working on the book, Chandler will teach Finn the art of sex, specifically how to properly pleasure a woman in bed. And as the weeks progress, so does Finn. Now, not only is Chandler pseudo-boss becoming a sex god in bed, but she's also forming a friendship with the man, which of course leads to its own complications. At the end of the day, Chandler and Finn must decide what's more important: business or pleasure (or both?).
I have generally loved every book Rachel Lynn Solomon writes, but this one fell a little short for me. I didn't connect with Chandler or Finn as main characters or narrators, and I found their situation unappealing. While I don't judge or find fault with their partnership in general, I was overwhelmed as a reader by the graphic details of the sex lessons, and then underwhelmed by the personal friendship and connection Chandler and Finn shared outside of the bedroom. All in all, I think this book just proved to me that I'm more serious than casual, and was therefore unable to relate to the narrators or plot. Still a great steamy romcom though, and I will always continue to read everything RLS writes.
I ended up liking this one better than I anticipated. The relationship between Chandler and Finn felt so real. I liked the awkwardness and the banter was on point. They really communicated well and it was nice to see a man comfortable sharing his inaptness with women. The couple is fun together, but I would've liked to see more of an emotional connection. The ending was satisfying and made me excited to read more from the author.
One thing about me? I'll eat up a Rachel Lynn Solomon book easy peasy.
Rachel was a random buy one day and I've never been disappointed since I picked up that first book and this was no exception. This wasn't my absolute favourite of hers, I'll be honest, but I still found it enjoyable to read. I think Chandler just bugged me a few times that knocked it down a peg or two but nothing to make me feel like I wasn't going to enjoy this by the end.
Rachel always writes a book that feels heartwarming and fun while weaving in important topics throughout her stories and I always appreciate what she does. Overall, another good read from her and I'm excited for the next one!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon.
Thank you so much to @rlynn_solomon @berkleyromance @berittalksbooks and @netgalley for my gifted digital copy! The following thoughts are my own, and I willingly read and reviewed this book 🥰

This was such a fun read! I dove into it after reading @katieneedsabiggerbookshelf ‘s raving endorsement, and let me tell you, when Chapter 3 had me cackling at 11:30 at night, I knew I was more than hooked!
I loved the unique premise of this one. I’ve never ghostwritten before, but the idea of being the writer behind someone else’s story has always intrigued me. I liked learning more about that process, and now I’m curious if @rlynn_solomon has been a ghostwriter before?!? I also loved that she delved into the complicated feelings that could surround being a ghostwriter, including questioning your own identity and worth. The emotional growth and connections in this novel, coupled with Rachel’s trademark banter and humor, made this a really enjoyable romcom with depth and incredible mental health and sex-positive representation. Bonus: I loved Chandler and Noemie’s relationship and the #lgbtq rep too!
So why didn’t this get a full 5 stars? For me, it had to do with pacing and chemistry. At times, this story felt a tad too long and drawn out. And while I adored the emotional connection Chandler had with the MMC, I didn’t always feel the physical chemistry as much as I have in some of Rachel’s other books ❤️
Overall, this was a joy to read and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Rachel is one of my auto-read authors, and this book is no exception!
Business Or Pleasure hits shelves July 4, so definitely give it a pre-order! Can’t wait to participate in this buddy read, facilitated by @berittalksbooks , as well!
I read Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon last year and really enjoyed it, so I was excited to check out Business or Pleasure. It went above and beyond my expectations!
I just loved everything about this novel and the chemistry between Chandler and Finn was beyond sizzling. In fact, the late Sue Margolis (Apocalipstick, Spin Cycle, Breakfast at Stephanies, etc.) would be kvelling over Rachel's skill with steamy scenes. They were on par with Sue's earlier novels, perhaps even sexier! Having said that, do NOT read this book in public...
I also liked the geek culture humor and the Jewish aspects a lot. The bits of material between chapters, such as scripts, articles, etc. were a lot of fun to read. The show Finn was on made me think of another paranormal show I've been obsessed with over the past couple of years.
Definitely add this to your TBR, especially if you need some heat this winter. It is perfect for fans of Sariah Wilson, especially for the geek humor. Now I need to go and read the novels by Rachel that I've missed, including the YA ones.
Movie casting suggestions:
Chandler: Rachel Keller
Finn: Jonathan Keltz
Noemie: Madeline Weinstein
The internet told me this book was spicy, and while there were a lot of sex scenes, I didn't find an incompetent man especially sexy. Disappointing
I did not enjoy Solomon’s last book so this was a breath of fresh air. It was everything I missed in her writing and more.
Unfortunately, this was kind of boring! I was hoping with the premise, there might have been some really compelling sexual tension, but it was definitely lacking in a book that involves sex lessons 😭. And it's not even like the sex scenes were bad! Chandler and Finn have chemistry, but it just wasn't hitting well enough in their interactions outside of the sexy ones—this definitely runs more "friends to lovers" than anything, which is never my cup of tea in a contemporary. What was most surprising is that I was not as annoyed with the famous/not famous dynamic in this, which is also typically a hard no from me in contemporaries.
The conflict for me was also a bit of an issue because it felt like there really wasn't one? So much of it is an internal conflict about what Chandler wants to do with the rest of her life, which I do think is relatable (obviously), but also a bit out of character? Chandler and Finn are, like, therapized to death in the sense that they're very well aware of their personal issues, have no problems talking to a partner about these issues, and talk frankly and matter-of-factly about them as well. This is all well and good (and I probably wouldn't even care that much if not for being toxic relationship pilled by Louis and Lestat), but I think part of my issue is that it just feels a bit empty and emotionless a lot of the time—I like it when characters can grow together and figure out their problems together. I don't need mental health struggle porn but I need something a bit more than "I'm not sure we can be together because I might want to write a book, and idk how to take it if you are supportive of that." I just need a little more than that. CoHo books are not appealing to me on multiple levels (chiefly the writing), but sometimes you need a little toxicity in the fiction! I think I'm going to try to find some historicals to read next because at least those characters have never heard of the DSM-5.
Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon is a witty and charming romance novel that follows the story of Chandler Cohen, a ghostwriter who finds herself in an awkward situation after a one-night stand with Finn Walsh, a C-list actor. When Chandler is assigned to ghostwrite Finn's memoir, she is determined to keep things professional, but Finn is devastated when he learns that their night together wasn't as special as he thought.
As the two work together on Finn's book, they strike a deal to help each other out and explore their attraction. The story is filled with hilarious mishaps and steamy scenes that keep the reader engaged and entertained. Solomon has a knack for creating relatable and likable characters that readers will root for from start to finish.
What makes Business or Pleasure stand out from other romance novels is the way it tackles the question of whether it's possible to have both business and pleasure in a relationship. Chandler and Finn are both driven individuals with their own goals and aspirations, and they have to navigate their way through the challenges of balancing work and romance.
Overall, Business or Pleasure is a delightful and enjoyable romance novel that will leave readers feeling satisfied and happy. It's a perfect read for anyone looking for a fun and lighthearted escape from the stresses of everyday life. Rachel Lynn Solomon has crafted a memorable and entertaining love story that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
I had high hopes.
This book has a great concept, and to some extent its executed well, but it all means nothing because the main characters are boring people.
a hilarious and steamy romantic tale that had me hooked from the start! The narrative skillfully balances humor and steam. The hero and heroine's chemistry was also a 10/10! Overall, I was eagerly turning the pages from beginning to end.
I am shocked by how much I enjoyed Business or Pleasure. Yes it is spicy and romantic but it's also nerdy and funny. The main characters are very likeable, as are the side characters, and I couldn't get over how well the spicy part of this book was done.
It didn't feel spicy just to be spicy and it didn't have any of the cringe factor or any of the "creative" phrasing and naming for intimate areas that I've been seeing an influx of in the genre. The writing truly felt like it written by someone who was mature and comfortable with intimacy instead of someone throwing out buzz words to make it sound "hot."
If you're a fan of forced proximity, celebrity-non celebrity relationships, mental health representation, and a little extra spice, check this one out,
Rachel Lynn Solomon does not disappoint! Holy moly was this spicy! Chandler's and Finn's chemistry was off the charts. I loved all the sex positivity in this book. And am such a sucker for lessons in the bedroom. It's such a fun trope. Loved loved loved this book!!!
Chandler Cohen has never felt more like the ghost in "ghostwriter" until she attends a signing for a book she wrote—and the author doesn’t even recognize her. The evening turns more promising when she meets a charming man at the bar and immediately connects with him. But when all their sexual tension culminates in a spectacularly awkward hookup, she decides this is one night better off forgotten.
Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done. Her next project is ghostwriting a memoir for Finn Walsh, a C-list actor best known for playing a lovable nerd on a cult classic werewolf show who now makes a living appearing at fan conventions across the country. Chandler knows him better from their one-night stand of hilarious mishaps.
Chandler’s determined to keep their partnership as professional as possible, but when she admits to Finn their night together wasn’t as mind-blowing as he thought it was, he’s distraught. He intrigues her enough that they strike a deal: when they’re not working on his book, Chandler will school Finn in the art of satisfaction. As they grow closer both in and out of the bedroom, they must figure out which is more important, business or pleasure—or if there's a way for them to have both.
Can Rachel Solomon write anything I don't like? I don't think it's possible at this point because I have always absolutely loved all of her books. This is no exception, the concept was *chefs kiss*, the characters were *chefs kiss* and the romance was.... *chefs kiss*.
Honestly could go on for days about how great this book was, so seriously if you haven't read it and you're a lover of rom-coms or Solomon's other books... read this one!
